I just got off the phone with the passport rep. at out town hall.
She did not know the answer for signing a childs passport.
we finally found the anwer on the gov page.

You must PRINT the child's name;then sign your own name; then in () put mother or father.

Just wanted to catch some of you before you signed the wrong way!

a small thing , but think about it....some stickler could forseeably prohibit travel just because of the manual error! Thanks for the pertinent info!

Thanks for the info - we got a passport for our 2 1/2 DD and have not "signed" them yet - so thanks for the heads up and I will sign them correctly.

Thank you very much for the information. I had asked this question in an earlier thread without getting a definitive answer. After seeing your post, I went to the state department website and looked for this information and was able to find it in the FAQ. For anyone who wants to read it themselves:
