Has anyone ever been given a free upgrade on a cruise that was booked through DVC using points? My DH & I are going on the cruise 9/21/02, and it seems that quite a few people have been contacted regarding a free upgrade. Are these only for "paying" guests?

Upgrades are assigned very infrequently by DCL but when they occur there truly is no rhyme or reason.

They are given to those booking with DVC, with travel agents, and with themselves through DCL.

There have been several mentioned recently on our Cruise Board, and there is definitely more flexibility for them to do this in the slower Hurricane season.

Could you 'pay' for an upgrade after you book with points? In other words, if I only have enough points for a Cat. 11, could I pay the difference for the Cat. 10?

you only have to pay in points for the first passanger, after that you can pay cash for anyone else. We are going on the western and paid points for my husband and son and 1625.00 cash for me. We have a cat. 6 cabin.

I am not sure about the SS memeber cruise, but I have paid for an upgrade at port before. I booked the best Catagory I could with the points and cash I had on hand at the time of booking. When I got to port, I asked about paying for an upgrade. They had me check-in and then sent me to the end of the counter. There they checked availability and then told me the price differences.

Thanks! Those are great suggestions! Wonderful!

We only have 150 points, so that doesn't go far with the cruise. But we banked points this year and will have 250 to spend next year when we book our cruise (using around 50 of them to stay at BCV in March 2003 during spring break--it will be our very first DVC stay!).
