Spending some time playing with my new toy. Nothing worth posting yet. Just playing for now. But Oh My Goodness, what a step up from my D80 (note to Dave--just get it! LOL
With just a bit of flash--Grace is always a willing model for me. Focused right on her (right eye in photo) eye. Straight out of the camera. Bangin' sharp! Please pay no attention to the dog hair on the carpet which is just screaming for a vacuuming (I'm way to busy with my camera to be bothered with such things now).

I just got a D7000 last night, and I agree with you... The shutter sound is great... I took just a couple pics when I got it, and let me tell you, crisp and clear does not say enough... I love that thing... What lens you got on it?

Congratulations on your new aquisition and glad you're enjoying the shutter sound! :lmao:
And btw, didn't notice the rug until you called attention to it. (Maybe because mine looks the same!)
OT but I would like to ask you Nikon folks - I am not following the model naming pattern here. Isn't the D3000 the entry model? But the D7000 is advanced? I know there was a 300 (advanced), and a 90 (?mid level). Can anyone explain so it makes sense to me?

D1, D2H, D3, D3S, D3X, D40, D40X, D60, D80, D90, D100, D200, D300, D300S, D700, D3000, D3100, D5000, D7000... (and I am sure I missed a few)
Quite a big lineup of cameras over the past 10 years, and they are of course not in that order... lol... I am not sure how they figured their numbering system...

Thank you oregondaddy.
I just didn't understand an advanced shooter going from a D300 to a D7000 when a D3000 is entry level.
I would have expected moving from a D300 to a D700, for instance.

Oh... gotcha... From what I am reading, The D7000 has most of the features that the D300S has, and what it doesn't have, it is very comparable... so in a way, I think is is kinda an upgrade from the D300... I really like mine, but I upgraded from a D60, so leaps and bounds over what I used to have...

Its just as confusing as Pentax going K10-K20-K7-K5 with a Kx- Kr and K100 K200 thrown in for grins!!:rotfl2::rotfl2: Who can keep it straight!
Have fun with the new toy!!!

congrats Dave! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
I am still learning all the buttons. My owners manual is well read and tattered. Now just to remember it all.
I upgraded from a D40x....and got it in December.....just the feel and sound when I turned it on got me. What a difference. So smooth and solid..... Not to mention the good arm workout I get every time I lift it! :thumbsup2

Thanks Susan!!!
The D80 is a great camera. This decision did not come easy. I really loved the D80 and felt I was just now getting the best shots I could out of it. The iso is what put me over the edge. My night shots just sucked with the D80... Not saying there going to get any better with the D7000 but I have got to try... :rotfl:

Hey guys, can I join this club too?? :)
Yesterday I took my 18-200vr in for repairs and saw the D7000 sitting there. So I picked up a body only, and once I get my 18-200 back from warranty repair I will be set to go. Now I have to settle for the 18-135 kit lens that came with my D80!
So yes another D80 user makes the jump to the 7k.
The thing that got me was my D80 was setup for use on my computers using Adobe PS LightRoom 1.4. I now find out my new D7000 will only work running lightroom 3 or better! Guess I will have to upgrade my software for 99 bucks.
If anybody has a work around where I can use LR 1.x instead please let me know.
I went out to one of our local lakes last night and tried out the interval shooting mode. Pretty cool imho
Only TWO MORE DAYS! :yay:

Yeah the D7000 is really awesome. I love the changes from my D80. 6fps is crazy, and excellent for shooting my dog jumping into the water at the lake :). Can't wait until I get my 18-200 back.
