I managed to snap these two pics from the deck of the Carrier Intrepid located in west Manhattan, NYC, close to B and H Photo shop. I really wanted to cross under the ropes and take more pictures but the Docent was giving me the hairy eyeball when I got in close and down low to take the second shot of the nose.

What a great looking jet!

OMG, thank you very much. She really looks good!! They make them look so good when they are on display. They paint the ship/air group designation on the tail when on board the carrriers. When not on a ship her letters would have been 'WS'. I am a proud VMFA-323 Death Rattler. Here is a photo of that particular aircraft as it just landed, note: the arresting cable starting to retract.

A-10/P-51D/F-4. The size of the Phantom is unexpected:

Amazing that F-4's still flew in the Gulf War as Wild Weasels.

Yes, they did fly in the Gulf. It was my cousin's squadron. They were a big heavy bird with two huge J79 engines producing a lot of thrust. They could take a lot of punishment/damage and keep flying. It was a great airplane! This thread is forcing me to look through my old stash of slides. I had a Kodak instamatic 101 and later a Minolta srT 101.
