Hello! :wave2:

I'm Dana, I'm 26, and a WDW vet (and a former CM), but I've never had the opportunity to go to DLR. I've looked into it in the past, but never decided to go. Then I met a lovely person here on the Dis known as franandaj (hitherto known as Alison or Ali) who lives near there and now I'm going to DLR for my birthday next year!

http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad219/disneyfirefly/wdw2010/USAHolidayOct2010WDW392.jpg

I'm the one in the white shirt :lmao: This was taken on my trip to WDW last month, by my lovely Dis friend PrincessInOz, who I spent three days with at WDW :)

So, this is the plan for right now.

Where and When: I'll be departing Chicago on May 31 and coming home on June 4. My birthday's June 3. I'll be staying with franandaj and her DP in their villa at the Grand Californian  I was looking at a hotel on my own and she basically told me not to worry about it. I really have no clue what the itinerary is going to be, but she said something about a couple of surprises, but I haven't a clue what they are.

Why: As I mentioned, my birthday is June 3, so I'll be there for my birthday. I spent my 20th and 24th birthdays at Magic Kingdom at WDW (both as a CM), so this should be fun. This will be a quasi-solo, quasi-Dismeet trip, much like the one I just came home from. Alison and I have discussed the fact that I move much quicker than she and her DP do, and I'm all right with that, as are they. I have absolutely no problem hanging out in the park by myself, especially since I've never been to this one and won't have anyone to laugh at me if I get lost :rolleyes1

A little about me: As I said, I'm 26 and a former WDW CM. I currently have not one, not two, but FOUR Disney trips planned within the next two years. I have this one, a trip with my best friend and her husband to WDW in 11/11, and a trip to WDW with two friends in 12/11. Those two WDW trips will be in a combined PTR over on that part of the Dis. My family is also planning a reunion in WDW in November 2012. I love Disney and plan to move back to work for them. I also am currently considering starting a home based travel agency, since I help people plan WDW trips all the time here at home. At the moment, though, I work as a night shift nurse's aide at an assisted living facility. I'm hoping to switch to days in January, but that will depend on if there's a position open. The reason I took nights was because of the way our shifts work (rotating 12 hour shifts) and the fact that if I'd enrolled at a traditional on-campus university to finish my degree (at the time, I was going to go into nursing), I wouldn't be able to attend classes if I worked day shift. I'm instead going to do an online program for a business degree.

Now, I have no clue what goes into planning a trip to DLR. I'm used to planning for WDW, and I know that it's a little different when you're going to California :lmao: So, yeah, any tips or suggestions would be awesome :)

:yay: Yay! :yay:

All righty, so, I don't have much to update with at the moment, but I'm trying to figure out my flight so I know what to look for. I almost exclusively fly Southwest, which flies out of Midway Airport here in Chicago. They fly into LAX, SNA, Burbank, and a few other airports, but I don't know which would be the best option.

I'm leaning toward LAX, but I really don't know what would be best. I'm also not sure how to get from the airport to the Grand Californian :lmao: Any suggestions? I've never been to California at all.

I will be happy to pick you up at the airport. SNA is preferred, LAX is OK, but sucky, Burbank could be a nightmare, it's at least an hour away in good traffic!

Works for me :) I looked at airfare to LAX and SNA on Southwest out of Midway and they're both all right at the moment. I can't get the exact dates yet, though. And I'm sure I could find something cheaper if I fly out of O'Hare.

Also to add to the last post, if you went to SNA, I could stop by the hotel on the way back (if you came in earlier than Fran was ready to go out there) we could drop off luggage with Bell Services, check in (get a good room) and let you start running around while I went back and dealt with the chaos at home, we would have room keys, and Fran and I could come back in our own time and get into the room once she is ready, which takes time!

With LAX there would be some serious backtracking, and it is a huge airport. I'm guessing that you would be coming in earlier than we might be ready to go out to the parks so in this instance we'd have to figure out what to do, take a shuttle or see if I could get there....

Let me know the options and we can work it out....

SNA works for me :) I prefer earlier flights, so I'm leaning toward one of those. If you'd like to do that, I don't mind. I'm pretty flexible. O'Hare's pretty huge as well, so I understand about big airports. If my flight gets in too early for you guys (the earliest I saw from O'Hare was landing around 10am and from Midway around 8:30, I think), then I can always take a cab or something. We'll figure it out :)

I love SNA! When my BFF and I were planning our SoCal trip, we were going to fly SW there. I flew out of there to go back to college when we went to FLR for my 22nd Bday, it's cute, and smallish, which is nice!

P.S. Subbing!

OK, so we have our first plans! You'll fly in at some point earlier than I'd normally like to get up. :lmao: I'll pick you up at John Wayne Airport, and we'll stop at VGC on our way back. I'll have my luggage packed and in the car (for the most part), we can check our bags with Bell Services, check into the hotel and I'll let you run around while I go back home and get the rest of things squared away.

That will work out nicely because the earlier we check in, the better chance we have of getting of room with a good view. If one will come available during the day and we're not scheduled to get it, it's more possible to switch our room before everyone else has checked in.

So we should plan on seeing WoC either Thursday or Friday night. Guests of the GCH/VGC can get into DCA at 9AM to get FPs for WoC in advance of regular guests. We will hopefully be able to see it from our room, but only the water show portion. The rooms are not at the right angle to see the water projections. Fran says she'll skip the show (she's not that impressed), but I'd like to see if from a non HA viewing area. We've seen it twice from the viewing area, once in the HA section and once in the VIP section. I'd like to see if we can get right up on the railing, it's a lot of waiting, but still.

We should make a plan to see Fantasmic! too. They usually run it twice per night. We should go to the 2nd showing. It's very different from WDW's there is no designated viewing area. People start camping out on the Rivers of America at around 5PM for the first show at like 8:30 or 9:30, :scared1: so it's better to see the second show. You just hover around as the crowds are exiting from the first and then zoom in to get a spot once they've cleared, you don't have to wait nearly as long.

Wednesday night we may have a possible obstructed view of the show with no waiting...but we'll have to see about that. :)

Yay! Planning! You'll have to tell me where you want to eat at as well. Check out the thread called My Disneyland Dining Reviews, start around page 88. That's the DLR Food Porn thread, the author is JeffGoldblum. :rotfl2: I'll add some pics to it and bring it back to the top of the thread. No one has posted there for a while. I'll definitely do some rides with you too. When you were making your top 10 rides for WDW, I made a similar list, but first I had to make my Top 10 DLR rides because they are different and rides that I like at DLR, I pretty much don't like at WDW because I like the DLR ones better except for ToT, that I like WDW's better....

Anyways Yay for planning!

Okay, most of that I'll have to look up this weekend :lmao: I'm only on this computer fairly briefly (I'm supposed to be getting a quote for Comcast internet, since we're thinking of switching) and I'm buying a new laptop on Friday after work, so I'll be around more often when I'm at home :yay:

Yay for a new computer...it's been lonely with you working days and Sharon working period! When you're thinking about places to eat, there aren't a lot of choices like at WDW. There are plenty of restaurants, and lots of good ones, but it's a lot more casual you can make reservations usually a couple days out. The exception is Blue Bayou. That is a place you eat at knowing that you will pay an arm and a leg for the ambiance. I've heard the food has gotten better, but still you'll run about $40+ per person.

There are five character meals. Goofy's Kitchen at DLH, Storyteller's at GCH, something at PP Hotel with Lilo & Stitch, Ariel's Grotto at lunch in DCA and Minnie's Breakfast at the Plaza Inn in DL. Most of the restaurants in DL are CS, except for BB, Cafe Orleans and Carnation Cafe. In DCA there's Ariel's and Wine Country Trattoria, but those only serve Dinner for WoC packages. The rest of the TS restaurants are in the hotels or DTD.

We plan on cooking in the room Tuesday and Thursday nights because Fran will be beat from having fun on Wednesday! You are welcome to join us, if you like what we're having! :lmao: Do you like lasagna? If so I promise I'll make it without mushrooms! :rotfl2:

I too am hoping that you get connected real soon.

Sorry to hijack but I'm hoping frananaj can help out here. I've been looking at the best way to get a fastpass ticket for World of Colour and am wondering where the best viewing location is. I was also wondering if I should think about booking a dinner pre-fixe (probably Ariel's Grotto because the menu seems to contain items that would suit DH vegetarianism and DS tastes c.f. the Trattoria) to get a Preferred Seating. The alternative was to order a picnic plate on-line.

Bear in mind that we'll be there in January and would probably prefer to be inside for a warm meal :teeth:

TIA.

I will tell you that you may likely be in the same place as the people who order their $15pp picnic even if you go to Ariels or WCT, and will be waiting just as long as they are with nothing to do after your meal. I've only seen it on the Dining Plan from the HA area, but we were placed in the HA dining area with people who did the picnic plan and we paid $40+ pp for Ariels. I felt a little gypped that we paid big bucks to get the sit down dining plan, and others who did the picnics sat there while we waited and ate their picnics.

However, unless you are staying at a DL Resort hotel and can get early access to the FP machines, a dining package is your best bet. I think there are some picnic packages that would suit vegetarian tastes, but since your DH eats fish, I would reccomend Ariels. That's where we went the first time we saw the show. Now I can post pictures!!!!!!

At Ariels they give you a choice of two different appetizer thingys. We got the seafood/antipasto one, but they have a vegetarian one as well.

So I finally finished looking through the DLR food porn thread last night. Unfortunately, I'm mostly going to be eating at CS places this trip because this trip is going to be on a fairly tight budget, as DLR doesn't have the dining plan. I narrowed down the list of interesting-looking TS restaurants to one, especially since I haven't got a clue what Ali has planned :lmao: I'll probably decide where I want to eat on the day, so these are the ones whose pictures grabbed my attention:

Golden Horseshoe
Plaza Inn
River Belle Terrace
Stage Door Cafe
White Water Snacks (this is in the hotel and they looked like they had good food at decent prices)
Award Weiners
Tomorrowland Terrace

Goofy's Kitchen (for brunch)

I also really want to make a stop at Pooh Corner to get a Tigger tail, and wherever they have those adorable Mickey pretzels. I wanted to get a pretzel on my WDW trip, but never got around to it. Any recommendations for snacky things? :teeth:

I also really want to make a stop at Pooh Corner to get a Tigger tail, and wherever they have those adorable Mickey pretzels. I wanted to get a pretzel on my WDW trip, but never got around to it. Any recommendations for snacky things? :teeth:

Don't forget that you'll be staying in a Villa with me, and I plan on cooking dinner in the room on Tuesday and Thursday nights. You'll be taken care of Wednesday, if my master plan comes through (well maybe you might want something for lunch). If it comes together then I'll let you know in detail. If I could get you to tell me what you LIKE (besides hamburgers, I know that from your TR :lmao:) I'd be happy to make something that you could scavenge off of in addition to the resort food! I know you don't like meatloaf or mushrooms...I know you do like roast chicken. I could make that on Tuesday and we'd have the leftovers to make sandwiches and chicken salad with. Because of Fran's RA, we usually move slowly in the morning and like to come back to the room in the afternoon for a rest. I like to have lots of food on hand in case we get hungry. The good part is we drive home so I can take any leftovers...do you like lasagna? I could make one of those for Thursday night....

Not that you shouldn't eat in the parks. From your list I really like:

Plaza Inn
Award Weiners
Goofy's Kitchen (for brunch)

I've never eaten at these places:

Golden Horseshoe
River Belle Terrace
Stage Door Cafe
White Water Snacks (this is in the hotel and they looked like they had good food at decent prices)
Tomorrowland Terrace

We love  Cafe Orleans since it reopened with the Monte Cristo on the menu. We ate there last Sunday, the weather was cold, but it was so good! I've always wanted to try Carnation Cafe, but we're usually staying there such a short time that we only hit Cafe Orleans. For a yummy snack I love the Bengal Barbeque, they have bacon wrapped asparagus, that's my favorite! I also like the Gumbo restaurant in NO Square.

In DCA we usually get a dog at Award Wieners (good choice!) but I also like the soup in the bread bowl from Pacific Wharf and we used to love  the corn dog palace, I really hope they bring it back when Ariel's ride is done.

The other thing we need to figure out is when to see WoC and Fantasmic! I'm tentatively thinking F! on Tuesday and WoC on Thursday that way Friday you could see either of them again, but then there's also the Fireworks...lots to think about....:rolleyes1

Actually, I'd done a little mini-itinerary with the days and then just put down either the name of a restaurant or "dinner w/Ali and Fran" for the dinners :lmao: I figure if I'm not interested (for whatever reason, because there are days when I just want something specific, you know?), I can go grab something to eat somewhere else :) I just like knowing the options :teeth: And I haven't had lasagna in a long time, to be honest, but I remember preferring the meatless kind. I'm a big fan of the simple kinds of cheese, but considering that when I was a kid, I only liked American unless I didn't know what kind it was, it's a good thing that I'm now eating Colby and mozzarella and provolone :)

Carnation Cafe was one of the ones I was really thinking about for TS before deciding to look at Goofy's, since the prices were reasonable and the food looked good. Their baked potato soup looks amazing! So if you guys really want to try them one day for lunch, I'm up for it :teeth: I think the soup and sandwich thing would be a similar price to what I'd be paying at a CS anyway.

I'm not a big fan of traditional barbecue (I like grilled things, but I don't like barbecue sauce except in certain things). I looked at the other menus as well, but those were the ones that had more than one thing I figured I'd like :rotfl:

I tend to be one of those commando-types that goes to the park and then stays there all day, unless something unforeseen comes up, except that I don't really do real minute by minute itineraries :lmao: So when you guys head back to the resort to rest for a while, I'll just stay in the park and then when you guys come back, give me a call or something :teeth:

You guys sound like you are going to have so much fun! I am trying to think of the places we have eaten at DL and DCA... I know we did Carnation Cafe which I believe (though if I'm wrong, tell me) is pretty reminiscent of Crystal Palace... I think... I will try to remember more! I know I have always wanted to eat at Blue Bayou, but we never did.

At the Land.

We've eaten breakfast at Carnation Cafe. It was the first time I ever had Mickey Waffles. I remember it as pretty good...but then I had no other comparison point then.

We now pretty much always eat lunch at Cafe Orleans :thumbsup2. The salads are always fresh and the gourmet sandwiches are great. In my experience, soups can be hit and miss here.

We also prefer the burgers and pizza at the Village Haus compared to the Golden Horseshoe.

Love  Gibson Girl for an ice cream snack. And the Tiki Room for a Pineapple Dole Whip. :lmao:

At DCA

We go to Pacific Wharf and get something from there. As Alison said, the soup in the bread bowl is pretty good. Otherwise we head to the Pizza place at Sunshine Plaza - but it might be closed now for the renovations.

Just remember that DTD is VERY close to both parks; and is worth considering for food. All parks and DTD are walking distance and the parks are smaller than the ones at the World.

The pictures I saw of the food they have there look awesome, so I think I'd like eating there, even if it was just soup and a sandwich. Everyone on the DLR food porn thread says that their baked potato soup is fantastic, so I think that's what I'd get. Blue Bayou looks great as well, but I'm going to be on a tight budget for this trip, since I've also got two others planned this year and also have other things I need to do with my money :lmao:

I'll have to keep Gibson Girl in mind :teeth: Am I seriously the only person who doesn't like the Dole Whip? I hate pineapple!

I'm also not a big fan of bread bowls. I don't like soggy bread  The only soup I think I'd want in a bread bowl would be the Le Cellier cheese soup in a pretzel bread bowl :lmao: I also don't like sourdough :confused3 I'm weird, I know. I'll take a look at the DTD ones!

Not PTR related, but would any of you guys be interested in seeing pics from my dad's trip to DLR in 1974? He was about 15, and his oldest sister took him so he could watch her daughter and she could spend time with her husband :headache: Yay family dynamics. But anyway, would any of you guys like to see them? He already said that I can scan them in (he's paranoid about the internet), but I wanted to see if any of you would be interested. :)

That sounds cool! I think that would be about 2 years before my first trip. Since we stayed at the DLH last weekend my mom was talking to me about that trip. I remember they had this water show at the hotel that mesmerized me. I was down there evey night taking pictures with my Kodak Instamatic (or some other primitive camera) it was so basic, but I loved it and took a ton of pictures and went down there every night.

I pointed out to my mom that in today's world the would have been neglective parents as they let me (like 12 or so year old, 3rd grade) to go down to a water show at a hotel by myself, after dark 3 nights in a row, would be considered terribly neglectful in today's society! :lmao:

So based on this information, I'm guessing this will be a potential itinerary.

Tuesday
--------------
Pick up Firefly from airport, check into hotel, she goes commando style into the park. I go home, pick up the pieces and come back with DP to check in. Firefly goes commando style into the parks. DP and I check in in the afternoon, prepare dinner, relax....Firefly closes the parks and comes in a heap of exhaustion! :rotfl2:

Wednesday
----------------
Surprise, but busy from dawn to dusk if my plan works out

Thursday
----------------
Firefly hits Magic Mornings, perhaps we get FPs for WoC at 9AM. Alison & DP get up leisurely and make bacon & eggs or pancakes, hit the shops and perhaps we all meet up for lunch at Carnation. If DP feels up to rides we could do some. A & DP go back to the hotel to hit the pool and make dinner. Firefly continues at the parks! :lmao: Dinner in the room around 5:30-6PM for those who are interested.

We meet up at either 7PM or 8:30 for our FP line up. Alison goes back to the room Firefly closes the park yet again! :rotfl:

Friday
----------------
Firefly hits Goofy's? (we decide whether or not based on her decided time) we make breakfast in the room unless we go to Goofy's. Firefly hits the parks, we go back to the room and sleep off the brunch! :lmao: After a nap we hit the parks, who knows? We contemplate where we want to dine, although by this time we will have already made reservations, but at this point I don't know where. I am guessing the Firefly will still be in the parks being a commando! :rotfl2:

Saturday
--------------
Check out of the room, for us, just pack up and go, Firefly, who knows? But we will be happy to give her a lift back to the airport!

One thing that WDW vets don't realize that is that the area of the DLR is about like if one stayed at the Beach Club. Disneyland is closer than Epcot, and DCA is about as close as the Yacht Club. The BWV are farther from BCV than DTD, so everything is in a REALLY tight knit area. You could be in the parks, we could call you and say "food will be on the table in 15 minutes" and unless you were in a line for a ride, you could be there for dinner within 15 minutes from almost anywhere in any of the parks. This is one thing that is hard to grasp for WDW vets. If you did want to save money you could come back to the room and grab something just as easily as you could walk across the park to get a bite to eat. I can also take you to a grocery store on the way to the hotel for staples like water, and I don't know what else would be staples for you, for us it would be yogurt, fruit, milk, eggs, cheese, bread and other stuff....

They're okay, but could be better. Could also be worse, though.

:lmao: I remember that, too :) I just don't really know what to talk about on here, since I've never been to DL, the hotel's taken care of with Alison, and I can't even start looking at airfare for another month or two. Yes, I'm definitely going to get a new camera :teeth: A computer store I go to sometimes has some good sales going on right now. I'd like to stay with Panasonic and they can run about $150 when they're on sale, which really isn't bad (I think my old one was about $350, but that was also four years ago).

PrincessInOz
01-17-2011, 10:18 PM
Yeah. Panasonic is good; but don't discount other brands. You might want to see if you can get one with a low Aperture setting (f2.8 or so; which I believe the newer models can do) so that you can take shots in the dark rides without a flash. :thumbsup2

So far my plans are working out for Wed. So you'll definitely want Thurs & Fri since those will be full days, whether or not you want to go in the parks on Tues (which I'm guessing you will) I would go for the three day park hopper. You can get a feel for the parks Tues once I drop you off and we check in. Wednesday, if all goes as planned you'll have a full on tour of the parks, but no real rides and stuff. You'll want to take Thurs & Fri to go back and visit everything you learned about Wednesday! I'll be happy to go with you for some of each day. We might even want to see the second showing of Fantasmic on Tuesday night, becuase we might see "parts" of it Wednesday night.

I'm thinking that we should get WoC passes for Thursday night. Being guests at the Grand we can go in at 9AM and get passes before all the other guests get in. Fran has decided to pass on WoC, so it would just be the two of us and we could go to the regular people section not the handicapped. I'm looking forward to seeing it from that view since I've never seen that one before.

Friday we need to plan something special since that's your birthday! I don't know what you consider special for a birthday celebration, for me it's usually a nice dinner, but whatever you would like we can do it!

Yeah, I would love to be at the park the day I get there... The pass I was looking at is a 3-day park hopper, and it's only $8 more than the 2-day ticket, so I don't really see why I shouldn't get it anyway. Because, yeah, $8 isn't really much in the scheme of things. It's less than I'd probably spend on a lunch at the park :lmao: The Disneyland site is advertising specials on multi-day hoppers, and you can buy them until mid-April, so I can buy it sometime soon and then I'll have my tickets :teeth: I'm getting my airfare when I get my tax return, too.

WoC on Thursday works for me :) I've never seen it at all (obviously :lmao:), so I'm good for any view, as long as it's not obstructed :teeth: I'm really looking forward to this tour thingy you mentioned... It sounds like it'll be fun :) I was watching a video about Disneyland on Netflix the other day and it made me wish it was May already :rotfl:

Honestly, I'm spending my birthday at Disneyland. I really don't care what else I do :rotfl: Maybe we could do Carnation Cafe for lunch that day, though? I'm still trying to decide if I want to go to Goofy's or not (probably not, considering how expensive it is), but I know I'd like to go to Carnation Cafe, so if you guys want to come with me, that would be great :) I really want to try their baked potato soup!

That sounds like a total deal! I want their baked potato soup as well, but not sure how much of the other entrees I want, the steak melt sounds kind of good, but I know I couldn't eat it all, and even split between Fran and I might be a stretch with the soup. We could all get soup and who knows split a sandwich. I'm thinking Friday we might want to go to Steakhouse 55 just because we've only eaten there once off the regular menu, but I'lm still thinking. Tuesday and Thursday Fran and I will definitely cook in the room and we'll eat around 6PM Thurs so we can go see WoC and line up around 7PM. We'll make a few breakfasts in the room, but Wednesday we'll be totally set on breakfast if everything works out!

I saw on one of the online menus (I forget if it was wdwinfo or allears) that they have a soup and half-sandwich thingy that's fairly reasonable, so that was what I was thinking of getting :) I think it was like $8 or something like that for half a sandwich and a soup. That might work for you guys as well! I looked at the menu for Steakhouse 55, but they're pretty pricey for me :guilty: I really wish DLR had the dining plan :lmao: I'll keep the in-room dinners in mind, though :teeth:

I think the soup 1/2 sandwich was with the turkey gouda sandwich and I might lean toward the steak melt. Fran and I make our own combos all the time by ordering a soup for each of us and then splitting the sandwich.

We'll have to come up with something for in-room that you'll like to eat...no mushrooms!

DisneyFirefly

I looked again and on their most recent menu on AllEars, it was the veggie sandwich and the turkey. I hope the turkey doesn't have gouda on it or, if it does, that I can substitute. Not a fan of gouda. I like simpler cheeses :lmao:

Well, just keep in mind that even if you guys are making something I don't like, I can always go and get something in the park :teeth: I'm going to overbudget for the trip so that I can sort of spoil myself while I'm there, since it'll be my birthday :)

So, I'm bored at the moment, so I've decided to go through the menus for the restaurants I'm hoping to hit up and post what I'll likely get. I'm probably going to be on a budget, but I'm going to try and make it a little larger than my budget was for my WDW trip, since this is my birthday gift to myself.

I'm hoping to stick to water for most of the trip and plan on buying a water bobble (a water bottle with a filter), so if I eat counter service, I'll probably be having it with water.

Golden Horseshoe - Fish and chips. I had fish and chips for the first time at Raglan Road on this last trip (I'm not counting fish sticks), and I liked it, so I'll give this a shot :)
Plaza Inn - Plaza Inn Specialty Chicken. I love fried chicken, so this sounds excellent and worth the $14 cost :lmao:
River Belle Terrace - I think I had this down for breakfast, since the lunch/dinner options don't look interesting. In that case, I'd either get the Mickey pancakes or the Steamboat platter.
Stage Door Cafe - Corn dog with apple slices.
White Water Snacks - Probably a cheeseburger and fruit.
Award Weiners - Regular hot dog and fries.
Tomorrowland Terrace - Again, probably a cheeseburger. I was trying to find restaurants that had things other than burgers and sandwiches that I found interesting.
Carnation Cafe - Half sandwich and soup combo, with the turkey sandwich and baked potato soup.

I don't think I'll be going to Goofy's for breakfast, since it's fairly expensive and I don't want to spend that on breakfast  Alison mentioned possibly going to Steakhouse 55 possibly for my birthday, but I looked at the menu for that one and it's pretty pricey for me :worried: I might go anyway, since, really, when am I going to DLR again? :lmao: Plus, it's my birthday. So there. :teeth:

Hi there!!

I am gonna tag along on your trip report I hope you don't mind.

The bacon wrapped asparagus is to die for at the Bengal Bbq.

We ate at White Water Snacks in June and I had the cheeseburger, it is pretty good but two of my kids had the nachos and I tasted them. They are wonderful, the chips are so fresh and just delightful.

One place I love to eat in the park for the location, and the food isn't too bad is the Hungry Bear. It has the best location.

I think that the Villa looks so homey and wonderful. How great is that view?

I think you will have a great birthday!!

Hi! Welcome! :welcome: I don't mind at all! :lmao:

I've heard that the bacon asparagus is excellent, but I'm honestly not a fan of combining bacon with other things. I'm weird, I know :confused3 I've heard they're good, though, so thanks for the recommendation :goodvibes:

:rotfl: I'm also picky and don't like things in my nachos  I'm just weird, let's leave it at that :teeth: I just like nachos with cheese and that's it.

I did check out the menu for Hungry Bear, and they definitely have food I'd get :lmao:

I honestly can't wait to stay in the villa. I've never stayed in a DVC property, although I worked in one. I'm so so grateful to franandaj for letting me stay with them in their villa :worship:

Anyway, welcome! :yay:

We'll make the reservation and we can always change our minds! That and Carnation Cafe one day. I'm still trying to figure out what to cook in the room. I'd rather make something that you might possibly like rather than something you have told me that you dislike.

Do you like spaghetti? I'll make it sans mushrooms! :lmao: You like Chicken Parm... You said you don't like bacon "with" things so bacon wrapped flank steaks on the grill would be out. What about Sloppy Joes, Jambalaya or Asian Chicken and rice?

Often times we have meatloaf, but I know you hate that. I just looked through my menu plans over the last year and almost half the things I make are with mushroom sauce, or mushrooms are a huge part of the dish! :rotfl2:

Not sure what you mean by Asian chicken, though. :lmao: I make a sort of chicken and broccoli, but it's nowhere near what it would be at a Chinese restaurant. But like I said, feel free to make things that you guys will like :) If I don't like it, I have no problem going to grab something in the park, especially considering that I'm going to be in the park most of the day anyway :teeth:

If mushrooms are in something I'm eating, I either eat around them or pick them out. I don't see the point in eating fungus, to be honest, but that's just me.

Your plans sound great. And I would definitely take the 3 day pass option. It gives you the flexibility on the Tuesday to go visit the parks. Given that it will be summer, you should have later closing times. Plus I think the 3 day pass gives you the early entry on Thursday.

I guess you internet is working better than you expected!

Dana,

So we'll plan on spaghetti, if you want to make meatballs that would be awesome, but if you want to be in the parks, I'll make a meat sauce, we can figure it out as we get closer. I'll give you my asian chicken recipe later and see if you like it, but I'm thinking that we can really save some $$$$'s by having a few meals in the room and then splurge on Steakhouse 55. You will be amazed by the difference in space between DLR and WDW. Everything is a few minutes walk. If you're in DL you can be in our room within 10 minutes (well not if you're at Pooh Corner). If you're in DCA you can be in the room in 5 min, it's nothing like WDW. It's way more compact even more so if you're staying at the BC or BW and walking to Epcot. That's about as far as you would walk if you were at the DLH, but GCV is waaaay closer.

I think for the money you'd save coming back to the room for a bit will not take away from you park experience, especially since I hope we'll have a theme park view! We'll see how it develops!

Dana, Fran are totally right about the distance. I hate leaving the parks in the afternoons or for meals at WDW even if we have a car because it always adds 10-30 minutes of travel time, but DLR (for better or worse) is much more compact! So, um... I may have to cancel this trip. :duck:

I've been job searching for a while in hopes of changing careers. I've recently come to the conclusion that I'm burning out fast and can't watch another favorite resident die, and no one ever taught me how not to get attached to the people I care for every day. We've had two residents die just in the last week, both men that I really cared about. I don't want to stick around and watch the ones I'm close to pass away, because it's hard enough when it's a resident I'm not close to.

Well, I have a job interview today, in a couple hours. They told me to bring my IDs and be ready to fill out paperwork and do a drug test, so I think I'll be getting a new job today. If I do, I don't think I'll be able to take time off so soon for a trip. I'm going to bring it up at the interview and if they say that's fine, then I'll continue planning. If not, then I'd honestly rather have a job I don't dread going to than a trip to Disneyland :( So, I'll keep you guys posted, but just to give you all a head's up that this PTR may be canceled. I'm hoping I'll still be able to go on my WDW trip, since that's not until December.

I'm :sad1:.

I don't think any amount of training can ever stop you from being completely detached.

I'm glad you don't want to do telemarketing.

I'm glad you got good care and I hope that you're fully recovered now.

Thank you so much. Do to those wonderful ladies that took care of me I managed to come back 100%. They told my DH that I would most likely never walk again, I left the rehab with a walker, graduated to a cane, then I "lost" the cane and no longer needed it after that. I had miracle workers.

I'm sad about it, too, but such is life. At least I'm finding out now that I'm not good at it than after going through nursing school, you know?

I hope you get the hospital job.

So I never heard from the hospital, but I had another interview on Thursday at a Starbucks in downtown Chicago and it went well, so I might be getting that. Hopefully.

However, I went to my eye doctor today for an exam and to get new contacts and even with my insurance, I have to pay about $270. I still owe them $230 because I only had $40. So between that and trying to change jobs and having a doctor appointment in three hours, not to mention other bills and not having paid anything yet for this trip, I've decided to put it on hold until my 28th birthday, in 2012. So that should be better, too, because then I can afford a better vacation and not be worried about budgeting as much.

So, yeah, this trip is on hold until June 2012, for my 28th birthday.

Sorry to hear you had to change your plans, but it's probably the right choice. That's crazy that your insurance doesn't cover more, but I think eye insurance is in general a little lacking... I will cross my fingers for you and your job search!! A friend of mine worked at Starbucks for a while when she was living in Hawaii and she really enjoyed it. Plus I have heard their benefits are good.

Oh I am sorry to hear that. But, you know that in 2012 it will be a major bang up party!!

I already posted on the Boo to Us thread about my experience with the doctor today, which was frustrating. Depending on what happens with my lungs, I might have to postpone the December trip, too, but I hope not. I really hope this is just an infection or something. The Starbucks I interviewed at was a licensed store, so the benefits would be from the host company, which was a hotel, not a corporate Starbucks.

Oh I am sorry to hear that. But, you know that in 2012 it will be a major bang up party!!

Oh yes, it will :teeth:

Sorry you had to cancel your trip! Something to look forward to in 2012 is the whole round of construction should be done or close to done and you will get to see all that new stuff too!

Well let me know as your thoughts develop. We should have a boatload of points since I'll be canceling two of the four nights, and banking those points into next year. With no F&W, I don't have a lot of reasons to stay out there. :confused3:

Well, as of right now, it's a firm plan :lmao: I'm looking at June 1-5, 2012, since that's a Friday-Tuesday stretch. But yeah, I'll keep you posted as things develop :)

So sorry to hear you had to cancel your plans. However you are right in thinking it's better to get settled financially first so you can truly enjoy your celebration.
