I am hoping for some advice/feedback for newbie :goodvibes
We will be doing the 4 nt Bahamas cruise on the Dream.
1. I read that we can do just the dig at Atantis. When you do that can you use the beach?
2. Is there a safe/easy way to just get to a beach to enjoy the water for a few hours without paying $85 per person?

You will not have beach access at Atlantis if paying only for the Dig. There is a public beach next door (Cabbage Beach) that is just as nice and is free. A couple years ago we took a cab to Cabbage Beach and the weather wasn't great, so we walked over to Atlantis and checked out the public areas of the resort (kids were probably 6 and 8, so the walk couldn't have been too bad).

What can we do with a group of children between the ages of 8-12? When we travel, we try to incorporate the history of where we are visiting.
My husband and I walked around town last time we were in Nassua and was not impressed. The kids stayed on the ship with their Grandparents. This time we would like to take them off of the ship but unsure what would be the best way to educate them?
We do not like doing the excusions - any suggestions?

I was wondering what to do in Nassau as well. I don't think we'll do any excursions, but walking around aimlessly doesn't sound like a good idea. Does anyone have a link to a street map that might show some points of interest?

We did Frommer's Walking tour, the queens staircase is quite beautiful and I think the Fort Fincastle is cool, but is surrounded by people selling stuff. Some of the architecture on the walking tour was pretty cool as well...
This is the one we used:

We've done Ardastra Gardens on our own - just take a cab and pay the entrance fee, much cheaper and not a bad little zoo type place for kids.
