My kids will NOT be out of school on a break. Have decided to take them out of school for the week. I didn't think I would ever do that. This will be the first time. So hopefully the guilt won't consume me. LOL!

Hi!
My son (who will be 5 in September) and myself will be going on the DREAM to the Bahamas from April 29-May 3, 2012. I haven't been on a cruise since 2003 and that was with my brother and mom. This is my first time going on the Disney cruise and the first time I've gone on a cruise alone (well, besides my son coming). He doesn't know we are going. He knows I've been thinking and talking about it, but he has NO clue it's been booked. It's going to be a SURPRISE.
We are staying in an Oceanview Stateroom on Deck 2.

Yay!!! Joining the thread, we are not booked yet but are planning this date. It will be me, my sister, and her coworker. We did a trip to the World last April and had a blast, sis's coworker is going on the Dream in August, and will book it then. This is a kids free trip, so excited. It will also be the first cruise for my sister and I.
I have been reading everything I can which is just making me more excited.

I am going to jump up to the plate and volunteer to do the FE list and keep track of who is participating and stateroom numbers :)
This is my first cruise but will be traveling my sister on her first cruise and her coworker on her 3rd or 4th cruise. The three of us tackled WDW in April 2010 and had a blast, looking forward to this trip too.
I know that Judy and I will be participating, but still need to check with my sister Mary Beth.
PM me with your details and I will start the list and do my best to keep it up to date.

Sorry about that double post. My Droid started freaking out on me last night and I had no control!:scared1:
JC32801 - My DH and I renewed our vows on the Wonder while in Nassau a few years back. It was a blast. Congrats to you and maybe we can all hide in the bushes or snorkel down and watch!
I did just get off the Dream last week after a 4 night with our DS and his girlfriend. It's an amazing ship. Very big and very beautiful. The lines for the Aquaduck are long but do-able. Not as long as you'd wait for Test Track or Toy Story Mania! They need to use Fast Passes..... And Donnie Osmond was on board that sailing too. :lmao:
I've been tracking Irene the past 2 days. Hopefully no significant damage at Castaway Cay. If you track the storm, Castaway Cay is actually called Gorda Cay. If there was damage I know from past storms that Disney is in there quickly and makes repairs. Last major storm that hit they even removed damaged and replanted new palm trees!
I'm off to take our DS to college. I can't believe he's starting college! How did this happen? I must not have been paying attention. I promised myself I wouldn't cry but this is going to be hard.:sad2:

Hi all! Just posting to add that we'll be on this cruise too! We just booked last week and I'm super excited as it will be myself, Dh, and our little boy who will have just turned 1, Plus my parents are coming and staying in the cabin next to ours so that they can enjoy our son's first trip too. It's my husband and my third Disney cruise - we did our first DCL trip for our honeymoon after our WDW wedding and caught the bug. Our last DCL cruise was last September so technically our little boy was on one too but I had only just found out I was pregnant at the time so it doesn't really count. :rotfl: I've been on 4 cruises total, and my parents have been on 2 - both before DCL ever started cruising and for me Disney cruises are so different in a wonderful way. We probably won't be doing a lot of excursions but are really looking forward to just enjoying the ship. Looking forward to getting to know you all as it gets closer!

Michelle I'm seriously considering FE, and possibly trying to get my parents in on it for their room. My son will have just turned 1 - we are actually going in celebration his 1st birthday - which will happen while we are in WDW the week before the cruise. I'm so excited because it will be our first trip in awhile - about a year and a 1/2 since our last Disney trip by the time we go :rotfl: to me that's a long time.

Has anyone begun their FE gifts yet? I have some ideas!
I haven't begun to pack yet but when putting away my summer clothes last week I made a special container for April cruise wear! I also bought a new summer skirt and top on sale at Macy's on Monday specifically for Palo brunch. (I hope we can get ressies!)

We haven't really figured out excursions yet. I haven't sat down with my folks to go over all that. I'm thinking Atlantis in some form for the day we are in Nassau. And I don't know that we will do any for the day on CC, I'd love to try and get a cabana but with how expensive they are I don't realistically see that happening. In my dreams though that would be the plan. And I'd love to take my parents to Palo for brunch or dinner, but will have to see what we can get there.
Haven't really started on the FE plans yet. Though still hoping to participate.

I check prices for flights every day. I'm waiting to see what AirTran offers. I'll probably wait until after the first of the year to book. It's always a gamble!
And by the way - this thread is too quiet!! We need to get a conversation started!!!
Is anyone planning on making their FE? Buying from ebay?
Anyone going to WDW pre or post cruise?
Do we want to plan a meet once on board so we can put faces to our names?
cp_princess
11-20-2011, 08:30 PM
Lexandme I agree our thread is way to quiet! I was actually just telling the hubby about it. To which he responded that no thread will be as crazy as the DVC MC thread - which is what I was last on. But actually the small FE group may really encourage me to go for it, since I can convince the DH that it's more cost effective. Then I'll have him hooked for future cruises. :rotfl:I'll have to see if I can convince my parents to join as well but that's even more of a long shot. If I do it I'll probably make my own - I know I have some extra fabric around which would save me some more money to spend on the actual gifts.
I already have magnets to decorate the door - I made a bunch of those for last time - so much so they almost didn't fit. But since I can share with mom and dad this go round that will work out better.
I bought our airfare the first day that Southwest opened the dates and was able to get a pretty good price from them. Still not cheap in my mind but not costing an arm and a leg either.
We will be in WDW at the BC for 5 days pre-cruise for the baby's birthday celebration but are heading home right after the cruise. :sad1: This is our first time that we are rushing home post cruise without at least a day in WDW. I guess we will see if it's too much travel for one day. I always felt the transition is easier with a day or so in WDW to get used to being back on land but couldn't work that into getting good airfare this time around.
I'm all for a meet. We missed the one on our first cruise - we got to port late. But were at the one our last go round. It's nice to be able to meet in person after getting to know people on here in the months leading up to the cruise.
So let's see in the interest of getting to know each other and getting the thread more active here's two more questions for everyone...
Castaway Cay - do you prefer to just relax on the beach or take part in the island activities (if so which is your favorite or the one you are most looking forward to?)
What on-board activity are you looking forward to the most?
cp_princess
11-20-2011, 08:41 PM
To answer my own questions...
Castaway Cay I haven't decided yet which I like best yet. The two excursions we've tried didn't work out quite as planned. The first because I became irrationally freaked out by the little blue fish while snorkeling and because my life vest wouldn't stay inflated. And the second because I had a horrible time with the heat and morning sickness on our last cruise so I couldn't really enjoy the glass bottom boat tour. But we haven't really had a chance to enjoy the beaches yet either cause our first cruise - where we tried to sit out at Adult beach was in December and a bit chilly and cold. However the view was lovely while we huddled under our towels and read our books! LOL So this time around we will see, and of course it's a whole new ballgame since we will have a little one to keep occupied.
On-board I think I'm most looking forward to Bingo - based on previous experience it's one of the splurges that Erik and I enjoy together on the cruises. Hopefully we can play some with the little one around. Maybe Grandpop and Austin will have some bonding time since my dad is the only one of our group that isn't big on things like that. But I'm also looking forward to checking out the kiddie areas of the ship since that will be a new thing for us.
jerseygirl74
11-23-2011, 03:22 PM
I also agree this is a very quiet group....so HEEEELLLOOOO Everyone :rotfl:.
We are not going to WDW at all. We fly in the day before the cruise sets sail and are staying at the Rennaisance in Cape Canaveral and post cruise we are staying at the Marriott at Seaworld for two nights. I have never been to Seaworld so I am looking so forward to it.
I am definately up for a cruise meet, I like to put faces to people also.
We have never been on a cruise so I have no idea what we will be doing yet. Nassau day we plan on walking the market and going back onboard.
I just cant wait to relax!!:woohoo:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope you all are having a nice celebration.
Jerseygirl, I love Sea World. It's been a few years since I went though. I've heard a lot of rave reviews with young kids though from people I know who live in the Orlando area. We are going to have to wait a bit till we do non-Disney parks since my parents aren't even sure how they feel about hitting the Disney ones.
I can't decide what to do in Nassau and so many of the reviews are so negative these days. My parents went to the straw market back in the 80's and enjoyed it. I went in the early 90's but it was just to get my hair braided and then right back to the ship - and it was in the evening so it was not the best experience as it had been raining all day and everything had closed. Erik's not a shopper so I don't see him going for that idea. I'm thinking of Atlantis because there are things there that appeal to all of us and we can make it as long of a trip or as short of one as we want.
Yeah I can't wait to see the new ship and just enjoy the Disney atmosphere with everyone.
I talked to my mom about fish extenders and happily she's interested so it looks like we can add our two rooms! Yay!

I end up at the straw market every trip to Nassau. It's very busy, crowded and people are pushy. If you can get past the poverty it's an interesting place to shop and bargain.
I just reread that statement and it made it sound like a horrible place! :scared1:It's not! You just need to know what you're getting into. And you have to like to shop.......
Airtran has posted and now I just watch and compare prices.:surfweb:
I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving. I tried to make leftovers today for lunch and my microwave died. I have DH out looking for one now. I did the Black Friday thing last night at midnight then back out again this morning at 9:00. I was at the Disney Store at 2:00am!
I was much more successful this morning. :thumbsup2

Welcome to anyone I have missed :) Getting excited as we enter the holiday season, because it means we will soon be in 2012, which is much closer to our cruise.
Who is planning to do anytime at the parks before the cruise and what parks are you planning on going to?
We are only going to have one park day and can not decide what park to do, AK and Studios are out, but Epcot has the Flower and Garden Festival and MK, well is it possible to go to a park without going to MK?
Hope everyone is having a great holiday season, looking forward to meeting you all!!

Welcome Deborah. What a fun reason to cruise! So glad you are joining us.
We are doing parks before the cruise. We plan on spliting between MK and Epcot. Spending parts of 2 days at each of them. Then one full day and a little bit of hotel time each day also. It will be a slow trip for us since we'll be testing the waters on how Austin can handle the parks since it will be his first trip.
Can't believe how quick the holidays are coming! Which means the cruise can't be far behind.

I would love more park time either before or after the cruise, but just can't swing more than one day. I will be leaving Pittsburgh, Friday afternoon and heading straight back after the cruise on Thursday. Though more time sounds great right now, I know it will only take me until about 10pm on Friday before I am missing my babies. On one hand I wish they were coming too, but on the other hand, I am so looking forward to some mommy time. I have already promised them they can come the next time. They will be spending a very spoiled week with their grandparents. The older two have already put in requests for things they want me to bring back to them :)

Hi everyone!
I just booked today. This will be our first Disney cruise, actually, for most of us the first cruise ever. We will be celebrating my husband's return from Afghanistan (he's scheduled to get back late March/early April) and my birthday (April 17th). We just found out he's not getting extended or anything and it's 99.9% certain he'll be back by mid April at the latest, so this works out really well. He's been on cruises before, but no one else in our group has. Traveling with us is my 4 year old and 18 month old little girls, and my folks.
I am just so super excited and I can't believe this is happening. :woohoo:
We wanted to get adjoining rooms, but we got ones that were one room apart. The disney guy on the phone said that I can call anytime before the cruise and check back and see if there are two adjoining rooms available in the same category. But at least we were able to be somewhat close and we got the main dinner seating.
Well I've got loads of questions and later when the kids are asleep I'll be able to phrase them coherently.
Talk to you guys later!

Hello! I'm new to the DIS boards and a first time cruiser. My crew, DH and 2 kids (both beginning with "A" hence my avatar) and me are sailing on the April 29 Dream. We're renewing our wedding vows for our 15th anniversary while we are in port at Nassau. I have been reading alot of the forums before posting before now, and *really* interested and excited about these fish extenders! I would love to know how my family can participate!
We live in Central Florida and frequent WDW quite a bit (like 1-2 a month). Doesn't hurt we are both former cast members, but it's been 12 years since we worked for the company. Now we come play with our 3 and 5yo kids. We figured it was about time to go on a cruise.
Any info, tips and suggestions for first time cruisers (and with kids) is welcomed! Getting excited about the cruise---already picked out our embarkation day outfits! Yes, we will be one of those families coordinating, down to our girls' AG dolls :)!
Look forward to 'meeting' y'all soon!

Welcome to our new cruisers!!!! I just realized we are so close to double digits!!! How exciting!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the New Year. We are all battling a bug and seem to finally be at the end. It will be great to get back into routine.
Some one managed to talk me into running a leg of the Pittsburgh Marathon, which did not sound too bad until I realized that it is the Sunday after the cruise. As of now I am planning to take a nice 4 mile run around Castaway Cay if anyone is interested in joining me :)
Other than that run, I plan to relax and enjoy myself!

Welcome to the new families! It's great to have new folks join us!:welcome:
Stephanie - Congratulations on your husband's return. I look forward to meeting you both and would like to thank him in person for serving. I manage a housing program for homeless veterans and every day I see and hear of the sacrifices that are being made.
Sue - Honest to God I should run with you, I should be leading the pack (she says as she types with leftover Christmas candy in her mouth). But I know I will never get off of my float once I land on that island. I am proud of you though and will wave as you zoom past! :wave2:And I think another planning lunch at Subway is due soon. We have to figure out our FE and our FE gifts! Glad you're all beginning to feel better too.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the warm welcomes! :goodvibes I really appreciate it.
It still feels unreal that I booked this thing. I was so caught up with the booking process that I forgot to mention one little major detail - my 18 month old (she'll be 22 months at the time of cruise) is gluten free. It's not confirmed if she's got celiac disease or something like that, we haven't done the tests yet because they can get pretty invasive (and she would need to start eating gluten again before the tests). All I know is that when she has something with wheat/gluten, she's up all night screaming and miserably grumpy during the day, and we definitely don't want that on a cruise! She's also pretty sensitive to MSG, it makes her cry at night also. So I need to call back the disney reservation people and have them note it. Since she'll just be 22 months, she'd be perfectly content with bunless cheeseburgers, hot dogs, yogurt, cheese, and fruit - basically her diet now, so I hope it won't be too much drama. Does anyone know if they charge more for gluten free food? They did at Great Wolf Lodge, but that's another story...
How do we know what nights we get to go to certain restaurants? Being first time cruisers we don't pick anything until Feb 14th, so I wait until then to pick things out?
Not sure if we'll do the fish extender thing, I need to read more on how that works, sounds kind of fun though, my 4 year old would probably get a kick out of it.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Disney is super accommodating regarding diets. I would definitely make sure you call them so they know in advance of any needs you have. At any sit down meals, just ask to speak with the chef and they will accommodate any needs your daughter has.

My family of 5, including DD12, DS10 & DS7, will be celebrating my DH's parents' 50th Anniversary (who are booked in the adjoining stateroom) on this cruise! We are getting very excited and can't wait for our first Disney cruise! DH and I cruised for the first time last summer and loved it. My in-laws have cruised on other lines, but not Disney, until now! :wizard:
I am considering booking a room at Comfort Suites for access to the Atlantis water park, but if I proceed with that, I need to see if any fellow cruisers might be interested in "splitting" another room, since only 4 passes are given per room. Has anyone looked into that?:surfweb:

DCL is great about accomodating any special diet request you have. And there's no charge!
We won't know the dining rotation until check in. Our rotation in August for the main seating was Royal Palace, Animator's Palate, Enchanted Garden, Enchanted Garden. DCL assigns the rotations and I'm not sure if they take requests. Nabbing brunch ressies at Palo is tough but dinner is not as bad. If you can't get one prior to sailing make sure you go directly to the assigned area as soon as you get on board. They go quickly and the gold and platinum Castaway Club members snatch them up quickly. (I'm not a fan of the new Silver/Gold/Platinum system. Reminds me of a caste system or immigrant steerage travel on a steamship!):scared1:

That's great there's no extra charge for special diets! At Great Wolf Lodge there was NOTHING at the buffet she could eat, so they offered to make her a hotdog with a gluten free bun. She loved it and ate it all (lots of food for a little 17 month old!) but then they charged me an extra $10 :scared1: Oh well.
I really, really don't want to miss Royal Palace or Animator's Palate. Enchanted Garden seems nice but if I had to pick one to miss that's it. I'm sure it's lovely but the decor at the other ones just sound really appealing to me. I really want to do dinner at Remy...the sound of some of the food kind of frightens me but I would love to get all dressed up and eat a dinner with my husband without kids, in a restaurant named after a rat. Sounds perfect to me. :thumbsup2
Yeah the gold/silver/platnum thing sounds a little unfair to me now but I don't know...I'll probably like it a lot after I get a few cruises under my belt!

Welcome! We had cabin #5156 in August.
It's a great location; very close to the elevators and the extended verandah is a plus - very roomy and an unobstructed view! :thumbsup2It was surprisingly quiet too. I expected more noise because it's so close to the children's area and the stairs/elevator but it was ok.

Thanks for welcoming us! We are really happy to be aboard this cruise! It's been a long time coming, planning and re-scheduling dates for one reason or another so we are thrilled to finally be going! :goodvibes
I was wondering about this cabin...wow, what a coincidence that you had the same one. I'm glad that you did so maybe you can give me your opinion. I am a little unsure about it and have thought about changing it...I've heard mixed reviews...I love the idea of the extended verandah and it doesn't really bother me about people above being able to look down on us but my concern is our neighbors...can you tell me is it open on the sides to where you can see next door into our neighbor's verandah next to us, or is there a divider?
I've tried to look up pictures and it seems like in some of these cabins there are dividers but in others it's open if it has the curved railing...thanks for any help you can give me in getting an idea of how it is. :flower3:

Liz,
It has a tall divider on both sides. You can see the neighbors verandah if you half hang over and look past the divider (which I did by the way because my neighbors were part of our DIS discussion and FE group). The deck above can look down on you but rarely did. The only time I saw anyone from above was the day we saw 2 huge tornados (technically water spouts) in the distance. And we were all talking to each other about them! I will admit I didn't spend a lot of time on the verandah, basically because it was only a 4 night cruise and I was busy on board or on shore. It was nice in the morning and late evening though.

Hi Judy, Wow, tornados...how scarey! :scared1: Thanks for giving me some input about it...I was finally able to find some pictures here on the disboards and I really think it will work for us so I'm going to stick with it. We are like you and probably won't spend a lot of time on the verandah, there's just so much else to do, so I think it will be just fine. Thanks again! :flower3:

We had 12+ inches of snow this weekend! So I did what any sensible cruise planner would do - shopped on line for spring and summer clothes! :) I had some Gymboree gymbucks and used them to get the girls some cute summery matching things. Still haven't found much for myself yet, but I've got time.
Also, my sister is joining our family cruise too...initially the only thing we could find her was an 8A GTY, and then last week we switched it to an 10A GTY, and then last night we switched yet again to an 8B GTY on deck 9. Since we (me, hubby, girls, my folks) are on deck 9, cat 8B, rooms 9156 and 9160, we are hoping and crossing our fingers that she'll get a room real close by. :goodvibes
Hope everyone else is staying warm and not covered in too much snow! :)

Our WDW plans are coming together. We're staying at Caribbean Beach/Pirate room Fri and Sat nights prior to sailing. So glad Disney offered a discount for dates around our cruise.
Sue and I have booked our flights, just waiting for Mary Beth to do hers. I arrive at 8:40am so plenty of time to go to DD, and visit AKL just to sit in the marvelous lobby and watch the animals from Arushka Rock. Then back to the hotel to meet the others for a fun evening.:dance3:

We didn't book any excursions or dinners at Remy or Palo. We are planning on bike riding and snorkeling at CC but mostly looking forward to relaxing.
We have done the parasailing, jet ski excursion and the Stingray encounter before on CC and all were fun.

Need to get started on my FE gifts. :thumbsup2
StephanieCG...on our past cruises FE gifts are given to each cabin, whether it be one gift for everyone in the cabin or individual gifts for just the kids or something for both the kids and adults, I think it is a personal preference of whatever you would like to do.

Sue, Mary Beth and I are staying at Caribbean Beach the night before and taking DCL bus to port. The only downside is we are at their mercy as to what time we arrive. We got there around 1:30 for our August cruise and there was a long wait. That was shortly after they changed the port arrival times and I'm hoping they have fixed the jam up they were having back then. By the time we got on board the only dining option open was the buffet. (But they had crab legs!)

Hello everyone! I honestly cannot believe that we our cruise is in just over 2 months! I have lots of details that I need to figure out (transportation, pre & post cruise accomodations, etc.)!
My in-laws are cruising with us & we will all be celebrating their 50th Anniversary. We have never cruised on DCL & would love to make their anniversary even more special - any suggestions? TIA!

On the Disney Cruiseline site you can see some of the stateroom gifts available. And several threads on these boards recommend Gift Baskets by Shirley (at http://www.theperfectgift.cc/Cruises.htm ), for a custom gift. If you think it might be up their alley, maybe gifting some spa time, or a "tasting" event on board? Or even seeing if you could get them a ressie at Palo or Remy?

Well, my husband surprised me last week with a trip on this cruise for my 40th birthday! First time cruisers - it will be me, my husband, son (8) and daughter (6). So excited to be joining all of you but nervous about taking the kids out of school. So much to think about in such a short period of time.

Barb, my parent's anniversary is just before our trip and this is their first DCL cruise, so what I decided to do to celebrate was to buy a few things on Disney.com, since they often have sales. I got a few DCL items for them from there. We're going to have the gift for them and give it to them when we get to our rooms. I figure that way I could personalize it with stuff I know they will like and it should cost a little less then what we'd have had to pay through DCL and such for the gift bags.
So not surprisingly we weren't able to get a Cabana on CC, which I was hoping for as our cruise splurge. But as Silver CC members they were all gone when we registered online, except for Serenity Bay which doesn't do us much good with a 1 year old. Not sure what we'll do that day now, since I don't know if my parents will want to trek out to the beach. I figure if we go we will probably spend only the morning there and the rest of the day on the ship. I don't see them or my 1 year old holding up well in the sun. Especially since the baby, myself and my dad all can't handle lots of time in direct sunlight. Worse case we spend a lot of time on our balcony looking at the Island and just relaxing - that's what I had to do last cruise when I was pregnant and couldn't handle the heat.
I still have to look into the excursions in Nassau, we're hoping to do one of the Atlantis excursions. Or if not we'll spend even more time on the ship - hmmm yeah that would be torture :rotfl:not!
I still have to arrange our travel, both ME for our pre-cruise WDW stay and to the cruise ship. Otherwise it's just packing and finishing fish extenders. I'm hoping to get started on those soon if I can ever find fabric. I wanted to use fabric I had but it's just not inspiring me. I went to Walmart - the only place local for us that carries fabric and they had a couple of cute fabrics but I couldn't get enough to cover ideas for each of us. I want to go to Jo Ann Fabrics but it's a much further drive so I'll have to wait till later this week to get there. I just hope that my creativity is still going strong when I do.
We also booked Palo for the adults for dinner one night, and the nursery for A. But I really wanted the brunch instead, it just was sold out. I'm hoping that if we get on the ship early enough we can grab a spot since they usually keep a few open. Plus I picked Pirate night, because I knew we wouldn't miss the AP show that night and given the choice I'd rather miss the celebration since the little one may not even be awake that late. But I'll probably want a different night once I see our KTTW card and can make a more informed choice.
Oh Sue, the room number for my parents is 6606. I noticed it was missing on the most recent FE list you posted. When you get the chance can you confirm the current list of those participating? I want to make sure I have the right counts for my FE gifts.
Glad to see we're starting to fill up posts! Can't wait less then 2 months to go. We should do a Bon Voyage party on here on Sunday's and watch the ship pull out on the Port Canavaral Cams. It's a great way to get psyched up for the trip. I watched the videos on FB/youtube of the Fantasy in NY and it got me so excited for our cruise. I would love to rebook on board for the Fantasy but don't know if I'll be able to convince my hubby or parents to do so.

I'm torn. I think we have 11 families now maybe? When does the FE usually close? Just wondering when I should place the order.
Also, is everyone decorating their doors? Me and my Sister in law plan to sneak away during the afternoon of embarkation and surprise the girls with decorated doors when they go back to the rooms. I'll probably pass out the FE gifts then too. When does everyone else plan to pass them out?

03-14-2012, 07:06 AM
Hi Leilani,
I have participated in several FE exchanges and usually there is a gift for each person in the stateroom but it is a personal preference, whether it be a little gift for each person or a gift for each cabin to share.
Once you have your FE bag hanging up outside your door (put it out as soon as possible because from past experience I know there are early birds who start delivering right away ;) ) then others in our FE group will come around and drop the surprises off in your bag. Whenever you have time, go to each cabin on the list and make your deliveries.
I am not familiar with the DREAM so I plan on getting a map from guest services so I don't get lost! I think it will be a fun way to explore the ship and get familiar with the layout at the same time. :thumbsup2
Hope this helps :goodvibes

Hi All, just wanted to add that for our group my dad Alfred usually goes by Al. Though no biggie if you alread used Alfred on anything. I just realized that as I was reading the names it sounded funny to me cause I'm not used to hearing his full name but I typed the full name cause that's what I had to use on all his documents.
I'm also up for a meet and greet but don't really know enough about the new ships to suggest and good meeting spot. Plus with this being Austin's first trip it's just so hard to predict how he'll take to things so we may end up with lots of unexpected and unplanned quiet time in the room if it's a bit much for him. So while I'd love to attend I don't think I could plan it for fear of having to bale at the last minute if he's just not having a good day.
I'm so excited I got the supplies to make fish extenders last week and hope to start on them sometime this weekend! Now I just have to figure out what to fill others FE's with - since I told my mom I'd help with theirs in addition to doing ours.

We are still in :)
I can be creative and attempt to be crafty too!!!!
jerseygirl74
03-15-2012, 06:48 AM
I've looked at the FE exchange topics and there are so many great ideas, but I don't think I have sufficient time to be creative as some of the other participants, since I just decided to join in, so I think it will be best just to wait until some other time. I don't want to be the one person who doesn't get as creative as others and just buys items to put together. I'm pretty crafty, but don't think I have enough time to be crafty since I'm in the process of moving, going to school, and parenting my own two children :/
It sounds fun, like secret santa fun, LOL. But I don't want to disappoint anyone, so I think I will pass this time. Thanks for all the input :)
Everything I have read you dont need to be super crafty. I am definately the farthest thing from crafty. I am going pretty simple but functional with my FE gifts. Its going to be alot of fun.
I wanted everyone to know that I would plan a meet and greet, but I have never been on a cruise, sorry.
kaismommie
03-15-2012, 07:53 AM
If everyone is OK with be not being super crafty, but I can be very creative, I would love to still participate. I just don't want to upset anyone, if I don't put as much time into something as they did.
I can be creative in the little bit of time I have, but as far as crafty, I don't think I can pull it off. Once I hear back from Sue, I guess she will update the list, if I am able to join in, if everyone seems ok with me being creative :)

I'm planning on having a friend make ours, if we are able to join in on the FE exchange. She quoted my $30. I saw the ones on Etsy too, and they were a bit pricey, but some were cute. If I don't get her to make it, I might try at it, but most likely I will have her create something for us.
I just want to confirm with Sue first that I can be part of the FE exchange :) then I'm going to talk to my friend on details of making ours. I don't know if I want to do a Mickey FE or something more creative with different characters :/

Finally started making my FE's the other night. Got as far as cutting the fabric. Leilani - I get the Port Canaveral Web Cam on my Facebook News Feed. If you friend them on FB they send you the sail-away list each day. I probably won't get to watch it this week - I'll be at my MIL's for Easter. But the following week or the one after that I hope to. But April is going to be a busy month for us so hopefully I'll get to view a few those and won't get too distracted and forget. It's so much fun to watch - it really get's me excited for the cruise. I showed it to my parents the week we were at their house and they were asking all sorts of questions about what we were seeing on the ship, and where our room would be and such. It's a great family experience to get others as motivated as us planners lol! So if you do watch make sure to let us know - we can have a virtual sail away party!

We just made our fish extenders and we decided not to do names on each one (mostly because I am not good at embroidery!)
Instead we have put pictures on each person's pocket. Here's the legend:
6566
Henry = horse
Ed = dinosaur
Sally = peacock
5552
Paul = baseball glove
Peggy = monkey
I hope this is not too confusing!

Only FOUR more weeks to go :)
Is anyone else coming down a few days earlier? What do you plan on doing?
We are coming down that Friday and I'm trying to figure out what we should do that Saturday. When we get there, we are going to go to Downtown Disney. Saturday, I'm going back and forth on what to do. I was thinking of taking him to Islands of Adventures, but not sure if it will be a waste of money or if we should go or not, since he's only 5.
What plans do you guys have?
We're staying at CBR Friday and Saturday nights. We fly in early Friday and our plans are to go to Downtown Disney and then relax by the pool. Saturday we hit Magic Kingdom for the day.
I finished FE gifts yesterday and have a little left to do on the FE itself. Almost time to start packing-I can't believe we're this close!:woohoo:
I've been watching the Port Canaveral webcam also. I get goosebumps! :):):boat::boat::boat:

I counted Toodles Mouse's in laws, as that was the info I have for her, I do not ave their names or stateroom though.
Gahh! Sorry for the confusion, that was my fault. No need to include my in-laws, just my niece if you could, as she is staying with us, even though they are there as well, if that makes sense. Sorry!

I can't believe we have 20 days left until we board the Disney Dream. I'm so excited. I have completed all my FE gifts and placed them in my suitcase. I'm thinking I may be bringing two suitcases now just for me, because I don't think my one big one will hold everything :/ My son will have his, but I was just going to bring one big one, but my FE gifts take up about 1/4 of the suitcase. We shall see :)
So, this is mine and my son's first time on the Disney Dream and my first time going alone as an adult. Do you guys bring stuff for the CM as incentives? If so, what do you bring? Thanks in advance!

Hi, guys! Mind if we hop aboard? It's our first cruise, and my first time on disboards. We will be sailing the 29th with my folks and our 3-year-old twins. I am a former CM and my husband does music production for Disney so he has spent a lot of time on the ships when they are at port. We are all really looking forward to our first cruise and learning the ropes!

I need this break we are in the middle of selling our house and buying a new one, never thought the cruise would be in the middle of it all.
My FE's are just about put together. I am thinking of shipping them to the hotel we are staying at the night before. Has anyone ever done that?? I am not comfortable sending my box to the ship.

I was going back through the old threads and found this :)
So they must be in 6606.

Ok everyone - Please allow MaryBeth, Sue and I to confuse you all even more! :scratchin We upgraded our stateroom yesterday to a verandah room. So we will no longer be in 7531.
I wish I had our new number to post today but I'm still waiting for out TA to call me back. When I went to pick up our documents yesterday I told her I had seen verandahs on the site for less than what we were paying for an inside. She called DCL and at first they said there was nothing they could do. She is persistant and told them this was my 4th cruise and I am going to book again onboard and they gave us a great deal!
As soon as I have a new number I will post it here. If for any reason we are not assigned until we board, we will attach our new location to our FE gifts and get them to you asap!

Judy
Nice :)
Thanks for letting us know. What a great TA you guys have.

My family is going. This is our first Disney cruise and the first time sailing with our son. He's 3 (almost 4). We are very excited. I only have 2 worries. 1.) He's potty trained but I don't know how comfortable I am with him going to the kids club. I worry that there will be a lot of older and bigger kids. I have visions of him getting lost in the shuffle and maybe even being afraid. We are going to evaluate once we get on board. I've heard he can still go in the nursery since he is 3. 2.) I don't know how strict they are on enforcing the height requirement for the Aquaduck. My son is 39.5 inches. I think you have to be 42 inches to ride it. I think he'll be crushed that he can't ride. That is one reason we almost went on the Magic. However, I was selfish and wanted the newer ship.
Let me know if you have any thoughts or have any kids the same age.
9 days away!!!:cool1:

I was going to take my daughter, who is 3 and will be 4 in May, but decided not to for many reasons. But when she was going to go, they said they would allow her to go in the nursery, if needed. She isn't potty trained and is a bit delayed. So, I don't think you will have a problem. I totally understand why you would be worried. My son is 5 and I am nervous about him being in the kids club, but we shall see. As far as the Aquaduck slide. I have no clue. I was selfish as well and decided to do the Dream because it is newer and has the slide :)
We have first seating. Good luck getting yours changed.

Our son is delayed as well. He's more on a 2 year old level with his speech and was delayed physically also. His delays aren't really apparent except his expressive speech. This is the reason I think we'll put him in the nursery if they will take him. We really only want to use it 1-2 hours a day for us to have an hour to ourselves and to be able to finish dinner without rushing. So, I don't think it will be a big problem either way. I just want to be able to feel secure the time that he is in there. I keep telling myself that this is Disney and hundreds of 3 year olds sail with them each day. I'm sure they know what they are doing. We'll see! Hope to see you on the ship!

My daughter is almost 4 and is delayed almost two years. She doesn't verbally talk, but has ways of communicating her needs. She can walk, but she's extremely needy. If she was going to come, I would feel ok about taking her to the nursery for a few hours. But since it was just going to be me with two kids, I decided against bringing her until she's older and can enjoy it. While my son will most likely remember this trip for years down the road, she wouldn't because of her delayedness. Hope to see you guys as well :)

I'm hoping my twins (Who are 3) will enjoy the Oceaneers Club, but I have some of the same concerns that you do. I am also going to play it by ear and see what we (and they) think of it once we get there. We are traveling with my folks, who have volunteered to take the kids off our hands for a bit if we need a break in the event the club is a no-go. We already talked to the kiddos about the AquaDuck- they are both a touch under the height requirement, and we explained that to them, and told them there is a smaller slide they can go on this trip. They definitely "got it," but I have talked to them about this kind of thing before because we go to the parks so often.
We have 2nd seating dinner as well, our TA actually recommended it since the shows are a priority for us. She said feed them something before the show, then after the show they can go to the club while we eat or if they are wiped I will just take them back to the room for room service. I don't mind a bit doing that. I have the feeling that they will be running on adrenaline the whole time and will probably make it through dinner ok though.
We're in 7050 and 7048 I believe.

Wow it's really getting busy over here! Just one week to go.

I haven't been on the Aquaduck but I've been on the one at Typhoon Lagoon that's the same style - and I'd say if he's under the height limit don't push it. I found that ride very aggressive - to the point I'm a little leery of the Aquaduck because of it. Just my opinion, but I would try to do like a previous poster and talk up the slide he can go on instead.
I was going back through the old threads and found this :)
So they must be in 6606.
Thanks Leilani! Sorry I haven't been around to post much and answer myself. We have a lot going on between my son's Baptism tomorrow, we leave for Florida on Monday (though we'll be spending a night at my parents and flying out early Tuesday), and then 2 days after we get back from the cruise I'm throwing the baby's first birthday party - so I'm trying to get as much set up for that now as I can. So yeah, I haven't been online much. But I'm so excited to see all the new people joining us! Hopefully I get to meet some of you on the cruise in person!

Yay, only 7 days to go. We will be on our way to FL on friday. It is my sons first cruise and my first Disney cruise :) I haven't been on a cruise in 10 years, so I'm excited. Scared at the same time, because I'm doing this alone. The other times I was a child with my mom. :)
Hopefully we will get to meet some of you. I think that would be nice.
