Fish Extender Exchange List
So here is the info on theFISH EXTENDER EXCHANGE
If you are not sure what a Fish Extender Exchange is here is a brief outline
[url]http://www.disboards.com/showpost.ph...81&postcount=2
1.Let me know on this thread or by PM if your group wants to join us
2.Some participants might want to personalize gifts for each group or each family so include your family name, your kids names and ages and your names, either on this thread or to me by PM
3. If we get more than 20 cabins participating I will split the cabins into 2 groups, we want this to be fun not a burden.
4. I suggest one gift per stateroom as the norm, doing something for each person is lovely but not expected, again let's not make it a burden (and think of luggage space)
5. If we split into 2 groups I will split up the cabins by area on the ship so there will be less travelling (possibly forward and aft)
6. Each cabin will be assigned a day to deliver, if you can't make it on that day it is fine, it might even out the fun a bit.
7. You can let me know by PM what you are planning to give if you think it may be repeated by someone else, not mandatory but a good idea.
8. June 1 2012 we will close the FE, any groups wanting to join after that date will be put together to come up with their own group.
9. I will keep a running list of participants on the front page of this thread under the list of cruisers, after June 1 a final list including groups will be made and sent out, along with delivery date.
10. If you think of anything else please lets talk about it

Hi Guys!!
I am so happy to have some other people to get excited with, my family gets tired of me very quickly:confused3
I am Christine, my husband is Dan and we have 4 kids, Jordan(18) Rebecca (15) Mitchell (12) and Nicole-Renee (8). We are travelling with 2 other families with 3 more kids in total.
Sounds like some of our kids will be close in age, hopefully they will want to get to know each other before the cruise too.
I run an at home daycare and this is the blessed nap time:littleangel:
What do you guys do?

Can't believe we are already getting started this far out! It's awesome!! This will be our second cruise. We were on the Wonder this summer celebrating my DD's 10th birthday. Had a phenomenal time!
I am Susanne, an occupational therapist, my husband, Jim, is a design engineer and our daughter Alexa is one great kid. We are also foster parents so who knows if we will have another child with us or not at the time of the cruise. Right now we are "between kids" so it's just the three of us.
I am excited to get to know everyone over the next 20 months!

We are headed to Toronto this weekend to visit our tablemates from our July cruise. It still amazes me that we can make lifelong friends in such a short time!!
We are having fun putting together our "Made in Michigan" package to bring to them. You forget what is local til you actual look. Alexa wants to stay and Trick or Treat there. She is convinced that Canadians have different candy than we do. I dread the almost 4 hr drive home afterward. We are going to be one tired family come Monday morning if we stay.
Hope everyone enjoys their Halloween weekend!

That sounds like a lot of fun going up to Toronto. Please tell Alexa that she is right, we Canadians do have different chocolate, our Smarties are candy covered chocolate like M&Ms but way better!!! Get her to try a Wunderbar too, freeze it for an even better treat!!
We have kept in touch with our table mates from our cruise in 2003, we have cruised with them again when we went through the Panama Canal and they came and visited us a few years ago, they are thinking of coming on this cruise in 2012 also. Funny thing is they are not people that we would have been drawn to, we were a family of 6 with young kids and they were older with grown kids travelling with adult family. We were put at the same table when the family we were supposed to cruise and eat with had to cancel at the last minute. Life long friends were the result (but you should have seen their faces when we first sat at their table!!:scared1:)
Have a fun weekend, what is Alexa dressing up as?

Now Alexa is completely enthralled with the idea of "Canadian candy"!! She is going to be a cowgirl. Funny, last Halloween we went to Texas and there it's not really a costume:lmao: She has had to wait 2 years for this one!
It got so cold here in the last 24 hrs! Feels like snow is around the corner. Yuck!! Can't wait til Thanksgiving. We are going down to Florida to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday. Looking forward to warmth and sunshine!

We are onboard also with a few friends from our August 2009 cruise. Me 41 DH 45 and DD8. DH said we can't cruise DCL every year but only for special occasions, so we will celebrate DD's 10th birthday.
Susanne, where in Michigan do you live? DH is from Midland.
Have a great time in Toronto.

Absolutely, a roll call list sounds great.
A few of us just sailed on the October 30th Western on the Magic. Since it was a Halloween cruise, our cruise meet thread held a private trick or treat on board for the kids. Many of us did the same private excursions together. There was a pirate treasure hunt for the kids on a beach excursion we did. Some people did the Palo brunch together, I think they were able to arrange for the private room. We had a huge a FE exchange, a lot of participants, and we received some great gifts. Someone had also arranged for lanyards for cruisers who wanted them that included our cruise name, logo, and disboards name.

Sorry it's been SOOO long since I logged on but lots has happened. We did make it to Toronto for Halloween and had a great time!! Went to the CN tower, had a drink at the Real Sports Bar and walked around downtown. In between we tagged along to our friend's kids' activities (hockey and figure skating). It went by WAY too fast! We did try the Wunderbar and Smarties. I am now officially addicted to the Coffee Crisp bar. Good thing Alexa doesn't like the taste of mocha or there would have been a battle in the Terry house!
We have a two week old (today) baby in the house for the next few weeks. Nothing like interrupted sleep! Also went to a funeral for a 16 y.o. that used to go to Alexa's school. Very sad and unexpected.
Has anyone checked to see that the inside rooms are now MORE money than the verandahs? I think this virtual porthole thing is way more popular than was expected. Alexa is worried that we are going to switch to a verandah. She wants to see all the cool things floating by the virtual window.
Take care everyone!

Add my family to the Roll Call! Jeff, Jane, Sheri and Beth, SO HAPPY TO JOIN YOU ONCE AGAIN!! Although it's not quite Official as in the deposit made, the Decision itself is firm. My Dream Cancellation is going through today, but TA said it will take 10 to 14 days for the refund to come through onto my Credit Card. Well, According to Sandie, I can't wait that long to book and I agree with her. So I'll be doing that this afternoon, (checking my account, and making a deposit). Do you think THIS Christmas is too soon to surprise the rest of the family with it, or should I wait till next Christmas?
Anyone else surprising their Family with this cruise?
As for Canadian Chocolate... just ask the above mentioned people what I give in FE gifts!! If we run an FE, I give out regular sized Canadain Chocolate Bars and Smarties. But the lesson I learned after last weeks cruise?.... Never put the Chocolate in Checked luggage!!! It sat in the Sun for a while before getting on board, and some had gotten soft and mishaped. I'm sure they still tasted great though!! :thumbsup2

What is everyone doing about the dining and show time popcorn::choices?
I picked main dining and the 9:00 show. My thought was the twins would not want to eat late and we also did not want to rush back from an excursion to get to the 5:00 show. I figured that it would be better if they fell asleep at the show instead of in their plates!

Ditto. I've heard some people for the Dream indicate they have a 6pm dining time. Is DCL staggering the dining times?
I am going to gift this cruise to the rest of the family (my kids and mom) this Christmas afterall, even though it'll be another Christmas and 7 1/2 months away. I'll give the gifts in stages, each a clue as to the REAL gift. The first one I think will be a Card with One Big I mean BIG Number on the Front. That number will be the number of days to the sail date. The inside of the card will read something like "days till.......". Another clue will be a rubber duck tied to a bottle of water (my kids may actually figure it all out with THAT one, so that will have to be one of the later gifts) So all this will keep me busy and exicited till Christmas, but then what? A whole year and 7 1/2 months to wait beyond then.
One good thing though, is the TA noticed my family has a couple of Birthdays in August and asked if we'd like to celebrate them on board!!!! AWESOME!
Last weeks cruise was for the DH and myself, a celebration of 20 years of marriage this year. I had told my former TA that, but nothing was done on board. On the 3rd last night on board, I told our assistant server, and she said she would arrange to have a celebration cake brought out the next night. It never happened. I suppose she forgot, and I didn't want to damper the atmosphere, or make her feel bad about it (in reality I should have told the Head Server about it anyway). Not a big deal as it was an AWESOME cruise with or without a special cake :thumbsup2

So what deck is everyone on so far? We are on Deck 6 midship. I had really considered those AFT cabins, but really worried about my motion sickness being worse there, plus they are not plexiglass verandahs. I suppose just being on the ship is Fantastic, so if that were the only location I could choose, I'd be happy with it. But I did get to choose, and DH is especially happy with the location. I also wouldn't mind a large porthole room, but we really did get spoiled with a verandah this last cruise!:thumbsup2
i12go2wdw, You can add our names beside my dis name in the roll call. We are Judy, Martyn, Tim 9 at time of sailing and Daniel 15 at time of sailing. And then there is my mom and her BF. I'll wait till she knows about the trip and let her add her own name if I can get her on these boards! We are in staterooms 6082 and 6080.

We are in 10084. I noticed the price went up at least $300 from a week ago! Check out a thread by HallsofVa on the dream rooms...seems like those aft rooms might have solid walls only up to about the shin with the rest plexiglass. I didn't notice the rocking in the aft on the higher decks, but did notice it on the lower ones when I was delivering FE stuff...

We are in stateroom 7162, Deck 7. It's a Cat. 5C, more mid-ship than aft. I had the same concerns as Judy about the aft cabins (DH Mike and DD are prone to sea sickness). On this last cruise, they were all fine until the very last night when the rocking finally took it's toll on Mike. And me, lovely wife that I am, had packed all the sea sickness meds in our luggage that had been given to DCL that night. I thought since we didn't take any all week, we were safe. I felt awful. :guilty:
We choose main dining and the 9pm show also. I didn't want to have to rush around to make a 5pm show, and both kids have the ability to do a 9pm show. They just can't eat too late.
I had moved this reservation from a dummy booking I had made in 2009. This summer, my grandmother passed away. My mother had lived with her, but now she is moving in with us. I had not included her in our reservation, because at the time, there was no way she could leave my grandmother for 7 days at sea. Now, I would like her to come. I'm wondering if I should try for a cabin for five, or book a separate cabin for her and possibly my niece, age 11, who I think my Mom would love to take with her. If I booked a separate cabin though, it would be like a brand new booking (no OBC, no 10% deposit). Advice, anyone?
We are in a Cat 4A on deck 10, stateroom 10102. I was thinking about a Cat 3, but it is $10,600 so I don't think we'll do a suite this time. Sandie talked me into connecting Cat 4As which gives us almost the same square footage as a Cat 3 for $3k less.
Having 2 cabins will give us double the OBC ($600) and the ability to add more people, up to 10, if we need to. If we get the connecting Cat 4As I'll update the stateroom numbers.
Rollcall: Jeff (DH) Missy (DW) Catherine (DD - 19) and Sarah (DD - 8). Ages are time of sailing.
This will be a 10th DCL cruise, our 9th is on the Dream on 08/16/11.

But you could use the Friends and family certificate that Pudo posted, If it can be used by more than one family, and get a $200.00 OBC. Would that come close to saving 10% along with a $100.00 OBC if using a TA that offers one (like Pudo's):thumbsup2
I just talked to my mom's BF, asking him if he and my mom (without mentioning a word of this to my mom) would prefer a Sept 2011 Bahamian Cruise in a Window Cabin for 4 nights, or this 2012 Eastern Caribbean Cruise in a verandah Cabin for 7 nights. Ya I know I already cancelled them on the Dream and booked them on this one, but then thought, well I can change it again, Keep my own immediate family on this one and book just them, myself and Tim on the 4 night Dream (That there would cost less than the two of them alone on the Fantasy). But cost doesn't matter when it comes to my mom. It's her enjoyment that matters the most to me. He mentioned what I already know, that my mom doesn't think she'd like cruising. LOL, but she's NEVER been, and he agrees with me. She thinks she doesn't like what she doesn't know about, but in reality, if she were to experience it, she would LOVE it! And he thinks the Verandah on a 7 night would be Fantastic. He asked how much it it and I wouldn't tell. I told him "I'm not telling you that because this is our Gift to you and my mom". He was very pleasantly Surprised. So the Fantasy it is. I'm still trying to scrape the funds together to take Tim on the Dream next Sept. Just the two of us, I think that would be awesome. Daniel wouldn't have his nose too much out of joint, as he will understand it's a school issue for him, and he WILL be on the Fantasy in 2012.
It's only $1,300.00 to take just Tim next year, so maybe I'll do that for his birthday. I can Dream right? And then, do I drive alone or definately fly? I'm gonna go with flying I think, for just two, it can't be that much! Then DCL transfers, better if just two to go with that vs renting a car? Maybe maybe. I think for $2000.00 total, TIM and I can do this trip next Sept. We won't need to spend extra onboard, it's only for 4 nights. I think maybe.........:wizard:

As for Canadian Chocolate... just ask the above mentioned people what I give in FE gifts!! If we run an FE, I give out regular sized Canadain Chocolate Bars and Smarties. But the lesson I learned after last weeks cruise?.... Never put the Chocolate in Checked luggage!!! It sat in the Sun for a while before getting on board, and some had gotten soft and mishaped. I'm sure they still tasted great though!! :thumbsup2

Hi Kaizen,
Yes, we were married at the Wedding Pavilion, the reception was at the Grand Floridian, and then 4 days at the Wilderness Lodge. After WDW we went on a 3 day Disney cruise. A great week!
For our one year anniversary I booked a 7-day DCL Eastern. I always joke that I set the bar a little too high. :rotfl2:

Hello everyone! Please add us to the Fantasy roll-call! :goodvibes
It will be myself, DH, DD10 and DD 14. This will be our first Disney cruise. We just came back from our first ever cruise on Carnival two months ago, and now we want to fulfill our dream of doing DCL. I was so excited about the new DCL ships and booked two inside Fantasy rooms on Deck 2 as soon as they opened up bookings.
Looking forward to sharing the wait with you all!

Thanks Beth. You're so sweet.
The last 8 years have been pretty wonderful, we have been blessed with many great adventures and friends. Our last cruise was my personal favorite out of the 8 DCL cruises we have been on. A lot of that was due to the fantastic group we had, and I am so glad to see that many of you have booked this cruise, but it was partcularly special because of your family. Your girls are adorable, Steve and you are an absolute pleasure; this photo pretty much sums it all up. We can't wait to see you again.
We miss you much,
Jeff

Has anyone seen the new DCL commercial on tv yet? I've seen it twice tonight! The Ship featured in it is the DREAM! Beautiful commercial!!
In other news, I was speaking with my moms BF today. He knows about our gift of the Fantasy Cruise to them, but my mom doesn't know. He told me that today, someone in the group brought up the subject of cruising, and my mother was very verbal about her thoughts on it. She's very negative about cruising (she's NEVER been), and mentioned the Carnival ship from this past weeks news. She swears she will NEVER cruise. He laughed and told me it was really hard for him to not say anything about our surprise, but he didn't. :thumbsup2 So what would you do? I mean I can't tell her about it till Christmas, but then what? Aside from letting her watch the DCL cruiseline video, showing her all our photos, pointing her to these boards...... I can't think of anything else, and there probably isn't. Well, Christmas should be fun, I can hardly wait:rotfl2:

We are in stateroom 12514. It's my first time in a foreward cabin. We were aft for the last 2 cruises and enjoyed it. Interested in seeing how Deck 12 is.
We have the late dinner. Our kids generally eat quiclly and leave to go to the club and we enjoy a quiet meal.
Trying to figure out if it is worth it to try Remy.

I think we will skip Remy and just try for Palo. At $75.00 per person, I just don't think it is something I want to spend my vacation money on. Also, DH is kind of a plain food kind of guy, and some of the the food being proposed for the Remy menu does not look to me like something he would be very happy eating!

Remy is $75 per person?? Not sure what they are serving but it would have to be extremely spectacular to pay that. I thoroughly enjoyed Palo and would go back again but if it were $75 I would pass. I think we pay enough for the cruise to not warrant an additional $75 on a meal.

I think the expense is based upon the fact that it is a food and wine pairings experience. So, I think it is not only the food, but also the wine selections that you are paying for.
Even with that consideration, I don't think this is something that will be on our agenda this time. While I like wine, DH is not a fan.

I'm a little confused about Remy. Where did you all find a menu? Also, I tried reading the description on the DCL site and they say that you will meet with the Somelier before your dinner to choose your wine, but your wine and alcohol is extra?
TIA for your thoughts and input. We will not be booking Remy at $75/pp, but will try and do Palo brunch instead. We did Palo dinner last cruise and DH doesn't feel the need to eat Palo dinner again.

No official menu yet that I'm aware of. But they had news articles/interviews, that kind of thing previously posted on the boards where they listed a few potential menu items that they were working on. Very French cuisine.
I'm sure alcohol (gin and tonic, martinis, etc.) is likely extra. I'm not entirely sure about the wine part.

Even though this cruise is so far off in the distance, I went ahead and bought the travel insurance from our TA. Given our need to have a pre-existing asthma issue covered for Hope, plus Steve's possibility of having a last minute travel interruption, we needed to buy the insurance within a certain window of the time of booking. For our family it is well worth it. So now we are financially vested in this beyond the deposit!
We now have two Cat 4A adjoining staterooms (10078,10080) on deck 10, so we have room for 10 people total although it will probably be just the 4 of us (my immediate family). My TA convinced me that I could have the same amount of space in adjoining cat 4As as a Cat 3, but for $3,000+ less.
We have been on the concierge level 3 times on the Magic (1 Royal, 2 Cat 3s). The 08/16/11 sailing we will be in a Royal again, so I went with my TA's suggestion and decided to save a little money.

Cool -- you are just two rooms away from us! I was going around and around with our TA re the 8/16/11 cruise about bumping it up to the V category but decided that since everything was the same in terms of space, just no concierge (and about $2K less) we will stay on deck 10 for that one. We are waitlisted for main dining so fingers are crossed that it will come through. Just got through looking at flights for that cruise too. Won't book yet as we might drive if we go down to Boca beforehand.

Originally we were pretty close to you guys; choosing adjoining rooms I guess moved us practically next door. Very nice. :thumbsup2
Not sure if our TA linked our reservations like last time, but if she did that would improve your chances of getting main dining. Typically, DCL tries harder to move people from late to main if they are "traveling together" with a family who already has main.

I think the TA told me she linked ALL our Ressie's together, including with Kim and Brian. Most of us have main dining, so thats good, but can something be put on the ressie about which families are at one table for dinner? With Kim and Brian's family and mine with my mom and her other half, we'll already be at 10. I just hope DCL doesn't get confused with all the links?

Yeah, we will have to sort that all out, it has gotten a little humorous and confusing. I was actually referring to the 08/16/11 cruise where Beth has late and we have main dining. I think that is what Beth was talking about too, but I have been wrong before. :rotfl2:

I'm going to convince DH to put up the outdoor Christmas lights this coming weekend! We had gotten for him last year the WHITE LED string lights. But once up I thought they did NOTHING for a Christmasy look or feel. I quickly realized I have to have colour lights up there. Can't remember if we bought some colour ones yet or not, but guess we'll find out this weekend. What I DID accomplish this past weekend, was to clean and reorganinze the side Hallway and dog area. We NEVER use the side door, and thats where the dog bed has been for the past year. So I cleaned out the oversized closet, removed one door and put the dog bed on the floor in there. The dogs love it, they feel more cozy with walls on two sides and an organizer stacked basket system on the other side which also acts as a wall for them. Got the summer seasonal sports stuff stored in the basement and all the winter snowpants, hats and mits organized in that basket system. The plan is to have the kids, in their winter gear, use the side hall. This will keep the front hall, cleaner for longer, and dryer! Next is the front hall closet. AND THEN, I'll start carting up the Christmas stuff. I'd say my favourite (but time consuming to put up) decoration is this Garland and musical bells and lights for the stairway railing! If I get THAT put up, that sets the Christmas mood in this house, and all the rest just starts happening! Add in some Christmas music while doing the decorating, and we're all in a downright MERRY MOOD!:thumbsup2

Missy started putting colored lights on the bushes that line the front of the house, I will hang lights from the gutters over the weekend. Typically we will put up a cut tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. Missy seems to think she has some catching up to do after being on vacation. :lmao:
Twins: We sent the girls a package, it hopefully should arrive soon. It was originally going to be a birthday card for each, but we got the idea to go through our videos and burn to disc some that include all the girls. Some of the clips are short (20 or 30 seconds) and others are several minutes. During our character breakfast I just let the camera run so there are some fun moments within all that video.
We also sent the girls a cute ecard last night, I hope they had a nice birthday.
BTW...Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

What would you do? When we arrived home from our last vacation, we found our hot water, to be lacking. We had warm water, luke warm, but not HOT. A call was made to the rental company of our Hot water tank. They sent someone out to have a look. Well, the guy says, it's the MIXER valve that needs replacing and that that in fact, is not part of our rental of the hot water tank, it's part of the piping above the tank, and thus owned by us. We'd have to pay for the part and labour. After enquiring as to how much that would be, I was told the part is $49.00 and the labour, as it would be a quick fix, would only be $54.00. I agreed to that, a bill was made up with those prices, the part ordered. The next day a part package arrived. Opened it, hmmmm, these 4 copper 5" pipe pieces look nothing like the Silver T-Shaped pipe I was told is the mixer and needs to be replaced. I called the company to set up the installation apt, and told them I think the wrong parts were sent. They sent another guy out that day, who told me "yes , wrong part", and after some checking around, found that the first guy had ordered the wrong part, and had thus quoted me the wrong price. The actual part piece is $249.00 and the labour would be $109.00 :scared1: THATS a HUGE difference. I made another call to the company and said, as a customer, you can't play around with me like this. The first guy gave me a price I accepted. The fact that HE made a mistake is NOT my fault and the first quote should thus be honoured. The case has now been sent to their customer relations department, who said I should hear back in 48hrs. That was Friday. Today is Tuesday. A lady called me today to ask if I wanted them to go ahead and order the part. I explained the situation again, and said I'm still waiting to hear if they will honour the original price before agreeing to placing the order. She pulled up my file and said she'd call back in a few minutes. A few minutes later somone ELSE called, and told me the same thing as previously. That they will email the file to the customer relations department and if I don't hear back from them today, then for sure He'd call me on Thursday. Talk about frustration. To go to the hardware store, the part is $150.00 we've discovered. My DH says he can replace it himself. The water heater company says if we do the work ourselves, then we wont' be covered under warranty should something go wrong.
SO what would you do? Fight the charges and hope them come through. I think it ridiculous the cost they now want to charge. :sad2: OH.... the joys of owning a home.........

As a whole I would say installing a mixer is not a big deal if you are handy with a soldering torch. I'm not sure what "warranty" you won't be covered for. They already don't cover the mixer so there is no surprise there. I certainly hope they are not saying installing a mixer will void the hot water tank warranty. You might want to double-check that first.
Sorry to hear about your homeowner issues. Hopefully, all works out well soon.

Hi Everyone!
Add us to the list! We recently got back from the 11/6 on the Magic. Had a great time and rebooked while on board. It will be me (Maria,) DH(Mark,) DS(Justin-turning 5 on the cruise,)DS(Joey -2 at time of cruise.) We also have the friends and family discount card if anyone needs it. I have to look, but I think it's good for 30 days from when we booked, which was 11/12 I believe. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Does anyone know what the 4th Family restaurant will be on the Fantasy? Has that even been announced yet? For Christmas gifts for my mom, I'm making up photos of graphics of the names of the restaurants. These will be little gifts she opens before the main gift that reveals the REAL gift. I have Animator's Palate, Enchanted Garden, and don't know the other. I'll add Palo to the list. I've also made up cards for her and the kids, that have length of time on them (this will purposefully confuse yet get them all interested in what this is about) 609 days, 1 year 8 months, 87 weeks, 14,616 hours, 876,960 minutes, and the last one is 52617600 seconds.
On another note, I was at the pet store yesterday investigating one of my 13yr olds Christmas wishes. I really want what I saw, but need some time to think through this further. Now don't cringe......... It was the MOST Adorable RAT!!!! Bluish Grey in Color and looked just like Remy from the movie Ratatoille! He was as friendly as could be, just adorable, and Yes, I said he's a rat! I'm into rodents I'll admit, but keep the lizards, snakes and spiders away from me! Christmas is coming, it's coming! Should I or shouldn't I adopt this little guy for my son (and me)............

The three rotational dining rooms are Animator's Palate, Enchanted Garden, and the Royal Palace. The adult dining restaurants are Palo and Remy. Check out this link: http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/ships-activities/ships/dream/dining/

I know it's Royal Palace for the Dream, but would they be changing the name for the Fantasy? The Wonder and Magic have that location restaurant, different names. Hmmmmmm.
Oh, I get it. Yeah, that's a good question. My guess is DCL would since they did on the Wonder and Magic.

My sister's college roommate had a pet rat, and so, my sister had a pet rat by default since it was in the same room with her. I think the roommate had "liberated" it and saved it from certain death at the hands of the science department.
She loved it. And it did seem like a friendly little thing. I know she was crushed when he eventually passed away.
We currently have one cat (Pixie) and two guinea pigs (Linney and Haley). I didn't think I would like the guinea pigs much, but they are cute, much more like rabbits than hamsters. Michael keeps asking for his "own" cat, but I think we are done on the pet front for now.

Well, sounds like that rat had a nice life, thanks to the two girls!! And for us, it's a rat for certain now, only not the one from the pet store. This one I found online this morning, at Kijiji. It was posted by another family. It is 10 months old and belings ot a 10yr old girl, but the dad is allergic to it. It is a female and again looks exactly like Remy, and she and her cage and accessories are FREE!! They just want a good home for her. I pick her up on Saturday, and my friend (who cringed when I held the one in the pet store yesterday), has offered to look after it until Christmas, so it can be a gift to my son. The DH doesn't know yet. He won't like it, but beyond a rolling of the eyes, won't say anything.....he goes with the flow :)
Now I only have to shop for my two teenagers, and my oh my, what on earth does someone get teenagers who pretty much have all the newest electronics and gadgets already? I haven't a clue........ other than GIFT CARDS!

Hey Judy, In all honesty I'm terrified of rats and mice. Chalk it up to seeing MJ in the movie "Ben" during my childhood. That said, why not include the rat (surely it will be named Remy) in your big cruise reveal to the kids at Xmas?

I was thinking along those lines when I saw how much it looked like Remy! Not sure how I'll do it, but I'll do it! As I mentioned, DH rolled his eyes. He would have tried talking me out of it except that it is free. He was pleased to hear their life span is only that of hamsters (2 - 3 yrs) LOL. I'm sure the kids and myself will grow quite attached to her. :)

I have this same problems with my nieces and nephews. And yep, they pretty much get gift cards every year, but that is what they want. I think they actually count on it now. Itunes, Borders, Gamestop...it makes them happy and it's easy for me!
Everything else they REALLY want is ridiculously expensive. Like fancy cell phones, etc. I leave that to their parents.

This thread is like 7 pages deep and the cruise is like 19 months out!!!!
And ... you can count us in too!!!
Book early, Go big, or go home!!!
So we (me, grammy, and my now 9yr old dd, by the time of the cruise, 11yr old - wow did i just write that) are all ready for girls week out 2012!!!
Is it crazy to be excited about a cruise 19 months away???
We are "dream"ing next year and so we figured we would have a fantasy the year after....
Okay I am having a moment ..... :scared1::scared1::scared1:
Did they even start building the fantasy? So does that mean we are booked on a boat that is not even floating yet? Yeap !!! I'm crazy!!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Okay moment has passed!!
I should be graduating from my masters program the spring of 2012 and so this is my gift to my self - but my mom and daughter get to share it with me... (not the you need a reason to go on a disney cruise - but I like wearing the button that says we are celebrating) and My daughter's birthday happens while cruising.... :dance3::dance3:
So I can't believe there are soo many people signed up for this cruise already!! can you imagine what it will look like when we finally get to the terminal?!
Love and peace people

I'm here, finally here!
We will be the same group, myself, DH, DD (11), DD (8) and DS (5)
My Mom (Gramacharming) and her DH~but I don't expect her to come on the boards much and my DSister (affectionately referred to as threeiscrazy's sister) and (hopefully this time) her DH, and definitely her DD (11) and DD (8)
I'm in the mood to start decorating too. The twins turn seven today -- unbelievable how fast the time has flown since their birth. The tradition at our house is to plunge into Christmas decorations the day after their birthday!
Happy Belated Birthday to the girls. :cake:
I can't believe how quickly time flies. I've missed having an active board to chat on (or lurk on :surfweb:)
We are booked on the 8th deck (I think, it got confusing since we were unable to book onboard and had to wait for DCL to get back to us). The only thing that would prevent us from cruising with everyone again is if there is an awesome Mexican Rivera cruise that comes up. My mom is celebrating a milestone birthday the 23rd of August 2012 and we'd like to take her to Disneyland and then go on a cruise. She grew up in CA and loves DL, but if they are still doing Alaskan cruises then we will be in the Eastern Caribbean.
I'm off to pick the little man up from pre-school. Judy, there have been NO TEARS all week! :scared1:

Hi everyone, I am writing this with a very thick sweater on as our downstairs heat isn't working. Luckily we have two zones in our house so the upstairs will be very cozy for everyone tonight.
Christine, I noticed that you are from North Vancouver ... I've only been to Vancouver once when my husband was on business. The airport is amazing, we stayed at a hotel right next to where cruise ships dock (can't remember the name), went on hikes in Stanley Park, drove up to Whistler for lunch, and toured an incredible anthropology museum at the University. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of Vancouver. What is it like to live there?

Hi Beth,
I could not agree more about Vancouver, I didn't create it so please don't think I am bragging;)
I hike every Saturday for 3-5 hours and in a year I don't need to do the same hike twice there are so many trails. In the spring we can ski in the morning then go to the beach in the afternoon and play in the waves. The crime is very low and you can feel safe walking the streets at anytime of day or night (not so much in Vancouver if you are off the main streets). The schools are good, we have amazing Universities, colleges and technical institutes and we have all the big city arts(plays, symphony, opera, etc.) without being too big. North Vancouver espcially is very "green" tons of people ride bikes to work or take public transportation, we also have an amazing recreation program for all ages.
BUT it is very expensive to live here, a small house across the street from us, 2 bedrooms up and a 2 bedroom suite down, just sold for $800,000. The weather is hard to take sometimes, I am sure you noticed how green everything is, well that is because Vancouver is considered a rain forest, we get a lot of rain, and when it rains it can rain for days on end!! We do not have extreme weather other than the rain, but that causes the problem of a large number of homeless people, they seem to move to Vancouver from other provinces that do have cold winters, they are well provided for here too. Taxes are outrageous!!! 12% on everything you buy, and that is just the sales tax, income tax takes about 25% to 30% more!!
I bet you are sorry you asked now, what is it like to live in Northern Virginia?

Hi Christine, Northern Virginia is a great place to raise kids. There are always things going on in DC: events, rallies, new museum exhibitions, etc. Right after Thanksgiving we took the girls to the Kennedy Center to see the Nutcracker, went to see Mt. Vernon (Washington's home) by candlelight, and took a hike near Great Falls. My kids are growing accustomed to doing this sort of thing. I grew up in Colorado so never got to do half of what my kids have already gotten to do (and they are only seven!). The weather in Virginia is wonderful in the fall and I love the changing colors of the hardwood trees, I get my needed dose of snow in the winter, spring is beautiful with the cherry blossoms and the dogwoods in bloom, BUT the summers are awful because it gets hot and humid. So thumbs down on the summers, but thankfully we can escape to the Eastern Shore or even to the beach as those places aren't too far from here. Housing prices are cheaper in Virginia than the Bay Area of California where we came from ten years ago, but it is still pricier than other areas in the United States. Overall, I like living here.
Okay, so who else on our meet board wants to tell us about where they live?

As mentioned before, I'm gifting this cruise to our boys and my mom and her Boyfriend, THIS Christmas. So yesterday I worked out and ordered the cards in the form of 4x6 photographs, most of the graphics I did myself. The plan is that my own family will open all their gifts Christmas morning as usual. The rat, I'm sure will be the biggest hit, and I think her name will stay as it is, "KiKi", and not be changed to remy, even though she looks like Remy. Then my mother is to arrive around 3pm. At that point, I'll have the extra gift boxes hidden throughout the house. And a scavenger hunt will lead them to them. The cool thing about these gift boxes, that I picked up from our Dollar Store, is that each plays a different Christmas tune when the lid is removed! So tell me if you think the following is a good plan:
Envelope in Christmas tree addressed those being surprised, and the photo card inside reads:
"Daniel, Tim, Al & Dee,
A Scavenger Hunt, Oh what Glee!
Will treasure soon be in hand?
Figure out the clues & see the plan."
A second envelope inside will read "Clue 1" on the top, and inside will be a rhyme that will lead them to the location of the second clue ect. So the clues in each of the rest of boxes will be as follows, in the order shown:
1. Card that reads "609 Days" & a Card of a close up of Black and white wall at AP and the letters "AP"
2. Card that reads "1 Year & 8 Months OR 87 Weeks" and a card showing the interior of the Enchanted Garden restaurant at night time and text that reads "Enchanted Garden".
3. A photo of a Beach scene with sand, water and Palm trees.
4. 3 Boxes each containing a bottle of water and a rubber duck attached to it.
5. 1 Box containg the pieces to two different puzzels in two zip lock baggies. Putting the puzzels together, they will then be able to read their formal invite to the Cruise, the ports of call and the date.
Does that sound like it will run smoothly? I need it all over before my inlaws arrive for dinner :worship:
My mother has never cruised, but has made comments about why she doesn't think she would like a cruise....... And when that Carnival ship had a fire and was dead in the water, well, her comments then were HUGE..... SOoooo, it shall be very interesting to see her reaction to this gift! At least she will have a year and a half to prepare herself, right? Her BF knows about it, and he's ALL FOR IT!!:)

I think it sounds like a great plan :thumbsup2
Would love to see pictures of the rat when that particular gift is given, so please post!
Still debating about adding my Mom to our reservation and upgrading to a Cat. 4. Honestly, with her medical issues, I'm a bit worried about taking her out to sea for 7 days. Of course, we would get trip insurance for her, but I am still concerned about her having a true medical emergency while we are away. She came on our four day in 2009, but for some reason, I felt better about it since it was so short.
I think I need to talk to my sister about this one before I look to make any changes. I might make it a gift to her for her 65th birthday which is coming up next year.

I'll definately post photos! I'm debating on weather or not I should put wrapping paper around the cage? I'll be picking up the whole thing on Christmas Eve, AFTER our kids are in bed. I'll try and write up a poem to attach to the cage, but that will take some work!
You know Jane, I never thought about my moms age, till you mentioned your concerns with your mom. I just realized my mom turned 68 this year, which means she will have turned 70 just prior to the cruise, and her boyfriend is a year or two older than that! I'm wondering if I should be concerned? My mom has had some health problems but nothing that is risky. So hopefully all will be ok! I really dont' think my mom looks as old as she is, but maybe thats just because she's my mom, and I picture her differently. Christmas is going to be fun!!!

If you decide to wrap the cage, you might punch some "air holes" on the top, it will get them really intrigued. Have a great time and yes, pics please.
As for your mom and her BF going on the cruise, I would consider her health and not her age, though trip insurance is not a bad idea. My MIL has been cruising since FIL retired almost 20 years ago and she is in her 70's she loves it and cruises at least once a year. After FIL passed she cruises with friends. She is in great health and we tell her she will live past 100.

DH just finished his vacation picks for the coming year and, once again, he got all the worst weeks. There are 5 people more senior to him and between all of them, they have snatched up all of the summer weeks and every week that the kids have off from school during the year. So, it definitely looks like no sort of vacation for us in 2011. I really didn't want to pull DD out of school after this year, which is why we booked for August 2012. We usually always go away in October.
I'm starting to worry about his ability to get off in August 2012, but he assures me that he has told everyone that we booked this particular week and he will be able to do it without a problem.
If not, I'm afraid I will be leaving him behind and taking my mother or my sister in his place! :)

I hope everyone had a Fabulous Christmas Day!
I'm posting pics here, to share my kids surprises! In our household, it is tradition, that every Christmas morning, the kids go downstairs to see the scene in the living room, and then grab the stockings and bring them upstairs to wake up mom and dad, and open their stockings in our room. Although this first photo is WAY out of focus, heres what happened. DS7 ran downstairs to get the stockings, with his siblings, and then came running back up the stairs, came flying into our room SCREAMING with EXCITEMENT (oh and WITHOUT his stocking) "MOM, DAD, THERE'S TWO RATS IN THE LIVING ROOM!!!!!!! TWO RATS!!!!!"
http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s49/forhere2there/Family/137.jpg
Out of everything yesterday, they say the rats were their FAVOURITE gift!! (oh yes, I purchases a second one on impulse at the pet store on Christmas eve. A baby one, and never told DH. DH went to bed before me on Christmas eve (ya, I was up till 2:30 am, wrapping presents and baking a pie), so DS7 yelling "TWO RATS" was a surprise for the DH too! :rotfl:
So the kids are loving the rats, and I've found a use for all those socks without a mate (the rats love to sleep in a large sock).

My Mother, looked up at me after reading the completed puzzels, with tears in her eyes, and said, "REALLY?" SHE WAS THRILLED!!!!!! I was SO focused on HER reaction, that I never paid attention to my kids reaction. Later when I talked to the two boys about it, they said they were excited about it, and DS13 asked right away, "Will our friends be on there too?" He was talking about Troy, Patrick and Brendan. I told him YES to the first too, but so far NO to the 3rd. My mom is anxious to watch the DCL cruiseline DVD I gave her. I hope to get her onto this board in the near future! Now I can have fun cruise planning with them all!:thumbsup2

Happy 1-1-11 to everyone!
We are enjoying a lazy day here. I'm about to go take one of the girls out for some mommy and me time. We drove to Florida for Christmas to surprise my mom who had traveled from Colorado to spend time with my brother's family. Hope and Skye knocked on the door, she answered it, and was speechless with surprise! Actually, I don't think she even processed that it was her grand-daughters staring back at her for a moment or two. We were a bit uncertain about driving down from Virginia, but it worked out just fine. We made it from our house to Savannah in 8.5 hours and spent the night there. We lucked out and didn't hit any traffic on 12/22. Then, we got up early, had breakfast and made it to Boca by 2pm. The girls were great. Thank heaven for the double dvd player that was given to us last Christmas. It came in handy on our trip. Pillow pets were a huge plus too.
Judy, we did end up stopping in St. Augustine on our way back up 95. The Disney store had some incredible post xmas deals. The cruise stuff was mostly mediterrean-related, but I still found some fun things to use on future cruises.
We have decided to go on the August 16 Dream cruise instead of a November one, so Jeff, we will definitely see you on board and maybe afterward at WDW. The twins had fun talking to Sarah on Christmas!
Have a Happy New Year everyone!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

LOL, we had that same issue with DESSERTS!! We laughed every night, and the same phrase after dinner, "Whats for Dessert" lasted for two weeks straight with Tim. We just aren't Dessert people other than the odd time, or a special occasion.
And I will admit, I had a hard time on New Years Eve! We had made reservations at one of our favourite locally owned restaurants, as they had a fabulous New Years Eve Special Menu, An Appetizer, a Main course, a cocktail and a dessert, all for $25.00 per adult! We had a choice of 3 different Appetizers, 4 different main courses and two desserts. I COULD NOT DECIDE!, and for a moment thought "I could try ALL of these if only I was on the Ship!!!"

Received the strangest DCL mail today.
It was the usual "Welcome Aboard" packet, the one with the details of our reservation and the little booklet about the ports. It was for the August 25, 2012 cruise, which is strange because we already received this packet sometime in November, but stranger still because it says the cruise is for the WESTERN itinerary!
I checked on DCL site and the 8/25/12 is still listed as an Eastern on my reservation and on the main cruise search page. So, was this just some strange error? Did anyone else receive this?

I read on the main boards that someone else experienced a similar problem. Apparently DCL screwed up on some of the mailings by listing the wrong destination and will have to redo them. Also read that the computer system with DCL is acting a bit wacky the past few days!:eek::eek:

We got the mailing today with the information for this being a Western, not Eastern. Hopefully it's just an expensive mess-up and not an entire schedule shift. We're booked on the 8/18 sailing as well, though, so we're protected if they are shifting everything around!

I just got an email from Joanie (sssteele). She was able to attach the group photo taken in the atrium. I uploaded the photo to my website so you can now download the high resolution version.
http://www.jeffreylangdon.com/MNSSHC_Atrium.jpg
Update: Joanie sent me another group photo
http://www.jeffreylangdon.com/MNSSHC_Atrium2.jpg
You can click on the link to view it, but the high resolution photo is probably too large to view in your web browser so you are better off downloading it so you can print it out. The file size is large enough to easily get a good quality 8 x 10 photo.
Download instructions:
1. Place you mouse cursor over the link to the photo.
2. Right mouse click on the link
3. Left click on the menu option "Save Target As..."
4. You should be prompted to save the file named, "MNSSHC_Atrium.jpg".
Enjoy

Disney Cruises are addictive! Steve and I are going to celebrate my birthday on a 3-day Dream cruise in May. We will be staying on deck 12 so it will be fun to check out all of the amenities. Gram is flying in from Colorado to stay with the twins. It will certainly be different having an adults only experience on the ship. On our first cruise at Halloween I didn't get to venture out too much because one of the girls had asthma issues. So this cruise will be really different and we can save for later things we know that we will do with the twins when we go again in August! I'm hoping that a Remy or Palo booking will be in the cards. :)

Thanks Sheri. Enjoy your 40th as the years after that point fly by at rocket speed. I was thinking of you today as I passed the entrance to Ft. Belvoir. It was snowing just like a snowglobe (of the unbroken variety, ahem!) as I was driving the girls' Daisy Troop to Mt. Vernon to lay a wreath at the tomb of GW. Very cool and very cold! Mt. Vernon was beautiful at 9am in the morning and we were the only ones there! The guides got a kick out of answering all of the questions posed by six and seven year olds! :)

Hey all! I haven't checked this board since last week (got involved in a really good book!!).
Sheri and Beth, it sounds like you might have more snow than US!! It was a very weird Holiday season here. We had a white Christmas, but then in the days after it rained and rained, and we had a very green New Years!! So Daniel didn't feel bad about not being able to go tobogening because of his broken arm, since NO ONE could go anyway :thumbsup2
Hey Sheri, to celebrate your 40th, I don't suppose you'd like to join me on the Dream in Sept? Just me and Tim, who will likely spend a ton of time in the club or pools.
Jeff, thanks for posting the link to the photos, high resolution will work best for me too! I find it funny in that photo how each member of my family is in each corner of that photo, instead of all together. Great picture though. I like the one best where everyone is looking up :)
2012 seems SOOOOOO long away. My mom is REALLY Happy about coming along on this cruise. She will be introducing herself sometime on this board. :)
I had a moment of surprise, real surprise when DS13 informed me he will be 15 on this cruise!!! I mean, I guess I knew that, but had not really thought about it! We were talking about the kids clubs, and looking at the new photos of the club areas on the Dream. Daniel mentioned how he will be in that new teen club area, and I said No.......... thats when he mentioned how old he'll be!!!! Oh my, they grow way too fast!

Sheri,
Thanks for the tip about cricut cartridges at Michaels. I drove to two different stores today and picked up several of them. What a deal! Instead of $89 they were $10 -- a huge savings. The sale lasts until the 15th, I think, so anybody else interested should go check it out. They even had the Tinkerbell and the Mickey Mouse cartridges, so Go Disney! Now I need to open the Cricut and try to use the darn thing. BTW do I need to get a jukebox? They had that on sale for $39. I didn't get it as I wasn't completely sure what it does and if it was a good deal. I got the cartridges home only to realize that I have two Tinkerbell cricut cartridges. So if anybody on this meet board is in need of one (it has other fairies on it too), I'm happy to mail it to you. Just send me a PM! :)

It looks beautiful outside with all of the white stuff on the ground. Here in the DC area we got maybe an inch or two, so the big snowstorm didn't really pan out for us. Today, we have a two hour delay before school starts. While the twins hoped for a full day home from school, at least they have a good chunk of the morning to hang out with me and help with shoveling the snow off of the driveway and the walkways. My DH is in Cocoa Beach right now on business, in fact, his meeting is at the port this morning. I'm not sure if any of the DCL ships are there right now, so I'll have to ask him when he calls. What about everyone else? For those of you living up the 95 corridor, are you snowed in right now? On days like this, wouldn't it be nice to be sitting on Castaway Cay, watching the kiddos play in the sand and surf?:cool2:

I really want to go to Universal to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but the kids are too young for it yet. So, maybe. Or I might plan something for our 15th wedding anniversary in October instead.
Judy, I realized Allison will be 11 by the time we cruise. Which means, no Club or Lab for her either! She would be in the tween club by then. It boggles the mind.

Cathleen, A big shout out to you for all you've done on the DisBoard with posting where the staterooms are on the Dream. You are very talented -- I'm sure thousands of people have looked at your Dream "where is my staterom located and is it a good room?" thread! There are some very talented people on this cruise (not me!) including you, Judy who is a DISigner and so generous with her time and talent, Christine who is so organized to keep this meet board working so well for a cruise that is way off in the distance, Jeff who knows everything and then some about computers and it appears that Cathleen is right up there with him, and Sheri who is over the top creative too (some awesome FE stuff on our last cruise was made by her and her family). And those are only the people I know about, I'm sure there are others on this board with a talent that we've all yet to discover. So a big thank you. And now I'm going to stop procrastinating and go outside with my snow shovel!

This will be our first Disney cruise and we are very excited.
Being our first cruise, we have never done a Cruise Meet so I am not sure what info I should post, but we are:
Lesa & Greg from California and will be cruising with our daughter Macy who will be 10 at cruise time. Macy would be VERY happy to make some friends before the cruise and so would we : )

WELCOME Lesa, Greg and Macy! My family went on our first Disney cruise over Halloween and we loved it! It is super fun getting to know people beforehand. Turns out that when we all run into each other on the ship we all smile knowingly at each other! :):):):):):):) My twin girls will be eight at cruise time so just a few years younger than Macy.

Beth - Thanks for the kinds words. I'm often amazed when I realize my little special rooms thread has had over 71,000 views and still going!
Unfortunately, I am saying so long to this cruise for now. We'd originally booked this cruise as the B2B portion to the 8/18/12 Western, to give us that opportunity should we decide to do both next year. We just made the decision to book the Fantasy MV today, and this cruise was the reservation that I sacrificed for the MV booking. So it's so long for now, but I still have my booking on the 8/18/12 cruise, and if something happens to our ability to go on the MV, then we may be back.
Meanwhile, all you NoVa folks, feel free to keep in touch, and let me know if you ever get together for scrapbooking or to talk cruises! And feel free to ping me for room questions - always glad to help if I can!!

Cathleen, We'll miss you -- but how super special that you are doing the Fantasy MV cruise! And who knows, maybe you'll be back as it is pretty far off in the distance. I'll definitely keep in touch and maybe some of us living around here can get together sometime soon to scrapbook or just gab about our favorite topic aside from our kids: namely Disney Cruising!

We will be there too!!!!! Me and my DH have been planning this trip since last year. For our 5th anniversary, we knew we wanted to be on the boat. Our anniversary is on 8-25. No kids on this trip. They have been on 2 disney cruises and been to WDW and other places. Now it is just me and DH.
Okay I am having a moment ..... :scared1::scared1::scared1:
Did they even start building the fantasy? So does that mean we are booked on a boat that is not even floating yet? Yeap !!! I'm crazy!!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Okay moment has passed!!
Love and peace people
TTYS
I'm here, finally here!
We will be the same group, myself, DH, DD (11), DD (8) and DS (5)
My Mom (Gramacharming) and her DH~but I don't expect her to come on the boards much and my DSister (affectionately referred to as threeiscrazy's sister) and (hopefully this time) her DH, and definitely her DD (11) and DD (8)
:scared1:
We just got off our first Disney cruise and had an awesome time. We booked this one before we departed. As of now its just my husband and myself.
We received our packet today for our August 25th 2012 cruise. We had booked this in October. When we booked this onboard the Magic in October they told us it was Eastern. We received the packet as a Western. I just checked the web site. It does say it is an Eastern :confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3

Better late than never, you have all been added to the first page, hope I got it all right but if not please let me know:upsidedow
I just feel like I am getting over the holidays now, what a whirlwind.
We are going to be going on the cruise with two other families, one we have been to WDW and on cruises with before but the other family is new to it all.
I enjoy planning so much so I am going to start monthly dinners and we will talk about different parts of the vacation each month. We are trying to get together in the next couple of weeks to talk about budget and where we will stay for the first (WDW) part of the trip.
I am hoping we can all stay together in a vacation house, we will have 7 kids with us who all grew up together (in my family daycare) and I know how much fun they would all have.
What are all your plans for the before or after part of the cruise.

As for pre or post cruise plans, Not any plans as of yet. Still too far out for us. But I do like your idea of monthly dinners. Perhaps I'll do that in the few months leading up to the cruise. Don't know yet if we'll fly or drive, but I'm hedging on driving for that one. Post cruise plans, will probably plan another cruise. I doubt we'll do WDW during that vacation, but who knows, lots can change between now and then. I hate to say it but I'm having a hard time getting excited about the ports of call on this one. I truly did love the Western Itinerary. It might be simply because I've never heard of St. Marrten or the others. I'd love to find an all inclusive Beach excursion like we experienced in Cozumel. Lots of time to plan though, and find out what each port has to offer. Defintately looking forward to being on the ship itself! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone!
We are still booked for the cruise but I have been very busy with life. I am having a hard time getting excited about something so far off but I promise to be more active on these boards. My DD (12 at time of the cruise) is interested in meeting some other kids but her schedule looks like mine! :rotfl: Hopefully we can get to know you guys more.
We have friends who are sailing on the Dream MV tomorrow and are thrilled for them. I can't wait to hear all about it! It is very tempting to change this cruise to the MV as well but it might not be feasible. If I win the lottery then I can do both!! :rotfl2:

We didn't get any more snow thankfully (we are actually running out of places to pile it!), but we did get at least an inch of ice accumulation. School was delayed for my daughter and canceled for my son. Getting to my office today was a slippery nightmare.
I spent my morning doing some work and then I hopped on the DCL website (once it was working that is) and upgraded us from a Cat. 5C to a Cat. 4C and added my mom to our reservation! :)
She has been thinking about it and decided last night that she definitely wants to go. I think all the snow and ice finally got to her.
Now, the question is, do we tell my MIL about the cruise or keep it to ourselves? If we do, we may end up with another Nana on board.

We got some snow, 8", nothing major in my opinion, although all school buses were cancelled here yesterday. The roads were bad in the morning and then again later in the day when the snow started up again. It did look beautiful out though!

We've gotten the same thing. I think the system has gone haywire.
DCL moved up the Maiden Voyage of the Fantasy one week and that seemed to throw a wrench into the system. We have two rooms booked also and both mailings has us sailing on a western instead of an eastern.

Happy Anniversary!!!! We are joining in as well!! Also for an anniversary..our 20th!! My parents will celebrate their 50th anniversary Christmas Eve 2012..so I'm hoping to include them with us if we can swing it. My mom has not had a good year health wise so I hate to book anything this far out for them.
Our anniversary is Aug. 29th so this was the ideal cruise...we'll be bringing our three children with us..at that time they'll be 17, 14, and 13!! Hard to imagine!
We are all excited about doing the duck ride....I'm still undecided on what category to book...really wanted to try a verandah, but not sure I want the expense...and I really like the window seat for extra seating....hoping they'll offer some good specials for this cruise...we're planning on booking it on our cruise in 35 days...so maybe I'll get a feel for how booked it really is so far! :)
Hope to keep up to date on all the news with the Fantasy!
Happy travels Fantasy sailors! :)

:welcome: Tara!! I'm not sure how well this particular sailing is selling, but I imagine it's probably doing well because of the time of year, right before school starts.
For all those getting the extra mailings, I've recently gotten them too, with wrong itinerary and right itinerary, 4 at a time. What a waste of paper! I've gotten the same, a month or so ago, and again when I booked!! I do think there must be a glitch in the system. :)

Hello Everyone,
We are booked on this cruise also. It is me, DW (Mary), DS (James) and DD (Moira) both (twins) will be 10, almost 11, by the time this cruise comes around.
It will be our sixth cruise, as we will also be sailing on a four day Jan 2012 on the Dream. We just got off an Eastern from Jan.15-22. We have done 2 Easterns, 1 Western and a four day Nassau. We booked our next two cruises, this one and the four day, while we were sailing this past January.
We are looking forward to joining the conversation in this thread.

btw- I noticed that we have a couple of Long Islanders (NYers) on this cruise, us too, representing Nassau County here

I was having a difficult time getting excited about this Eastern itinerary, not knowing anything about our Ports of call other than Castaway Cay. Today though, I looked at excursions offered through Island Marketing. The Horseback Riding tour and Beach break, in St. Maarten has REALLY caught my eye, It sounds fabulous. There are several too in St. Thomas, oh how does one decide. The 007 Helicopter Private Island Beach Escape sounds utterly Fascinating, but pricy. Then there is the Island tours, that give you a few hours on a Beach as well as fabulous sightseeing and shopping in St. Thomas. Ok, now I'm happy happy, excited about this itinerary.
The ONLY thing that has me slightly concerned (can someone else who's been to beaches on an eastern cruise elay these for me), is that in the decription of the beaches is a blurb about them being European and therefore there is likely to be nude bathers there. My assumption would be though, that those beach goers would be few and far between. My concern lies in the fact that we will have our children with us.

St. Maarten is divided in half, the northern part is French owned, the southern is Dutch owned. Although not an absolute rule the Dutch are more conservative than the French so you typically don't see nude or topless bathers in the south. DCL docks at Philipsburg which is on the southside of the island so unless your excursion takes you to the French side you should be fine.

Thanks Jeff, thats good info to have. I was all excited about Horseback riding along the beach, but then read a trip report from way back in 2001 about the same place. A few horses got spooked, and a few took off with Children on them. The ladies son fell off and had just some road rash type injuries, nothing more, but the daughter fell off and broke a few bones in her wrist/arm that required surgery. That put an immediate stop to their vacation. As I'll have my children with me, I've now written that one off as a family activity, but feel good knowing I can find a beautiful beach to spend the day at! :)

I know message boards are frowned upon for the under 13 year olds, but many younger ones do have access to email. Any ideas out there?

For our Last Cruise, a KIDS THREAD was started and was linked to the main meets thread. Although my kids didn't participate on it, as they didn't KNOW about the cruise till the week before, there are other parents on here whose kids did participate. Jeff or Beth, do you know how that was arranged? :thumbsup2

Hmmmm. I have no idea who started that thread on the Halloween Magic cruise, maybe it was Janice? Though I did put the girls' names down on that kids thread, they never got on it because they don't know how to type on the computer, plus it seemed like the kids using it were a few years older. My girls did start privately emailing Jeff's daughter (mom typed their messages) once Jeff and I figured out that our kids were the same age and had similar interests. I think Jeff talked about setting up a FB site with the teenagers a few months before we sailed, but not sure if that got off the ground.

My daughter will be 13 at the time of the cruise and would love to chat with others that will be at the tween club (I saw that a bunch of you have 11 and 12 year olds). This will be our 4th cruise and she has chatted with a bunch of kids before each one. It helped to get to know some of the kids before they got on board and then they would set up a time to meet. Usually how we have had them get started is the parents would send a pm with an email address, and they would start that way.

Hi Everyone,
This is Adriane ( Vicki's 12 year old daughter) and I was the person who started the kids thread for the Oct. 30th Halloween cruise. I just posted the kid's meet thread as a new thread and then later Janice linked it to the adult meet thread.
Hope this helps!

LOL. I've wiped the horseback riding one off my idea list. I read a moms TR from several years ago about their experience with the horse place near the beach that we wanted to go to. The horses her two kids were on got spooked and tore off down the beach eventually spilling the kids off. The boy was ok other than scrapes and bruises, but her daughter broke the radius bone in her wrist. After an ambulance ride, then an emergency flight home and surgery, the rest of their cruise didn't happen obviously. I don't want to risk such things, and I can totally now picture Tim falling off. So NO horses for us on this vacation. Just a Beach, thats all, maybe some shopping. (Unless my mom just wants to stay on a beach and the boys can stay with her, then maybe Martyn and I will do the horse thing) :thumbsup2

Beth,
Has there been much talk in your part of the county about the possible early school start date for 2012?
Hi Sheri, I haven't heard that much talk about it around here. I did see mention a few days ago in one of the local papers that the new middle school would be opening up on the first day of school in September 2012. Also, one of my friends told me that parents had voted down the superintendent's early start date proposal -- but I'm not sure how that happened unless we were all surveyed, something I didn't see. That said, I read somewhere on facebook (must have been the fcps site) that the superintendent was trying to get a before Labor Day date passed through the state legislature. So its anybody's guess.
If the superintendent of schools does succeed in moving up the date, we'll have to bow out of this late August cruise because Steve is firm in not wanting the girls to miss the start of school. Right now, we're holding on to our reservation, praying that the start date won't get changed. Lots of people around here LOVE having school open after Labor Day, myself included!!!
What about you? Have you been hearing anything?

The last we heard they "polled the parents and teachers" and had overwhelming support for starting a week early. We also were not polled and personally if they are going to start early I'd rather it was by two weeks and not one so we can get out at a decent time. One week early still puts us to the middle of June. I'm hoping this goes the same way rearranging the bell schedule went and doesn't happen. I think the first week of school would be hard to miss, the girls would feel "lost" and out of sorts.
Fingers crossed that life stays status quo.

Our schools definately won't start till after Labor Day. I'm pretty confident in that, especially since Labor day 2012 is very early in the Month.

Ours never start until after Labor Day either...usually the Wednesday right after.
Last year there were rumblings about moving it later even, to the following Monday, but that was only because in that particular September week, the kids were off on Thursday and Friday for (I think) Rosh Hashanah and it seemed silly to have them go in for just the one day. It didn't go through.
So, in addition to this trip, DH and I have decided to go to St. Lucia for our 15th wedding anniversary in October! :cool1: We've never been, so I'm pretty excited about it. Has anyone been there?

Hello fellow cruisers,
I just received yet another cruise package from DCL and again it says a Western cruise leaving Aug 25th. It isn't a deal breaker for me to do the Western instead of the Eastern but I just wish they would make up their minds, and maybe lower the price of the cruise by sending out fewer packages. JM2cents worh.

That is odd.
The DCL website shows 8/11 and 8/25 as Eastern, and 8/4 and 8/18 as western.
We're really looking more forward to Eastern with 3 sea days, that is one of the reasons we booked this.

I'm sure this is just a glitch in their system. It is in fact an Eastern sailing, no doubt about that. But I too keep receiving the booklets in the mail. My goodness I think we have now received 6 to 8 of them. Identical booklets except half say Eastern and the other half say Western. We should only be receiving ONE package of these booklets, not continually each month. Thus I think it's a glitch in the system. Though I haven't a clue why some have our dates but say Western.

Not a bad idea to keep both since they may list different shore excursions (I received both also). We have been on three other DCL cruises and two were around this date. Our Western turned into an Eastern because of a hurricane and our Eastern turned into a modified Western because of a hurricane. During this time of year you never know where you will end up. I will tell you though we had great weather and smooth seas on both of those cruises.

Hey Kim!! I knew you were on this Cruise, but didn't know you hadn't yet joined the meets board for it! Great to see you here. We're pretty slow moving at times on this board, but the sailing is SO far out yet. You are cruising sometime this year as well aren't you? Threeiscrazy (Sheri) is joining Tim and myself on the Dream this September, and I can hardly wait for that!
I don't know if we'll make it to New Jersey this summer, time will tell. I might be taking a week off work to go to family camp with the boys, as we haven't been at all the past two years, but if I don't do that for vacation, then New Jersey is definately next on the list! :thumbsup2

yay, so glad to see some familiar names!!! We're going down Thursday night late and staying at the MCO Hyatt, just easy for the first night. Friday morning we head down to BLT and will be there til Tuesday morning. Planning on doing 2 days in the parks and the rest by the pool.

Not sure yet. I think we'll either go over to Atlantis for the beach or stay on the ship (though it sounds like the ship certainly won't be deserted in Nassau!). Steve and I are taking a 3-day DCL cruise in May without the kids and we plan on checking out the beach at Atlantis then. If we think that the whole Atlantis experience would appeal to our first grade girls, then we might try to get them there in August. But it is soooo much money and they are still little. There's no way Skye would ever want to go down any of the big waterslides, plus that aquadventure ticket is even more expensive! I need to check out the description of the Blue Lagoon Beach Day. Have you gone there before? I've also been reading about the hotel across from Atlantis that you can book a room just for the day to get the wristbands for Atlantis (and for a family of four it is cheaper than DCL). That's another option......

We did the Atlantis last time, it will be $450 for the 4 of us, my kids are older, 11 & 14, so they are pretty much charged the adult price on many of the excurstions. I can get it by booking CIS and that will give us full use of everything but, then it's another $70 or more for lunch. My kids and husb do everything, I lay in a chair. LOL!!! ok, well mayble lazy river once. Your kids will love the pool at the atlantis. It's really beautiful. The beach, I remember walking up and down, but, we didn't think it was anything great from what I remember.
The Blue Lagoon is $70 pp, we're all considered adults. It includes lunch and transportation. Looks nice, I see some decent reviews on Cruise critic. I haven't looked up any of the hotels, that might be a good idea too.

Well, it's been awhile since I posted, need to get back on the boards. Welcome Kim. Glad to see more Halloween cruisers aboard. We are doing Atlantis, don't remember what the excursion name is, but want to check out their waterpark. Hi and Welcome! I have a son and a daughter. My son will be 6 at cruise time. My daughter Allison will also be 11 by the time we cruise. I think we have a few girls on this cruise that are that age or very close, so hopefully they will be able to meet and have some fun together. :goodvibes
Regarding the chat regarding Nassau excursions: We did Blackbeard Cay. There is a stingray adventure portion to it, but you don't have to participate in that part if you don't want to (My mom and my son stayed on the beach). Blackbeard Cay is actually only half of the island...the other half is the "private" island for the Sandals Royal Bahamian resort.
We were happy with the excursion. Nice beach. Lunch was included (hot dogs, chicken, burgers, drinks). Alcohol was extra. My kids enjoyed the boat ride to and from the island.

As for Nassau, we did Cabbage Beach for half the day. It was a quick and cheap taxi ride and was an awesome beach to swim and play at. The best part was that it was a public beach and free! We headed back to the ship early and our intent was to shower and head back out and do some shopping but the bed in the cabin kept calling our names and we succumbed :confused3. I would do it again!

Thanks!! Going on the cruise will be DH, DS (8) and DS (5)... although I guess by then they will be 9 & 7. Hubby thinks I am crazy for being this excited so early!! :P
Not crazy, normal! At least normal for this group anyway. :rotfl:

still hoping that we will be able to be on this sailing. I booked the dream for 7/2012 and this one on the Fantasy, will keep both if I can get those weeks off next summer - I'll find out for sure sometime in late May.
Wife and I were on the Dream for the first time 3/10 for a 3 night getaway without the kids and it was exquisite. Absolutely beautiful ship. We got a great perspective of the adult offerings. In August we return for a double dip with the kids - don't know who is more excited about it, me or them :)
The 2 stops in CC is appealing and the only way I would do more Bahamian cruises, looking forward to western and eastern 7 night cruises

I am sad to report that my family is pulling out of this cruise. After lots of mulling it over, Steve and I have decided to take the twins to Europe next summer. We think they will be old enough to enjoy it, plus we can piggyback it onto one of Steve's business trips. So, we switched the August 2012 cruise to the Fantasy 11/17 holiday cruise. Next year, Thanksgiving is on November 22, which happens to be the girls' 9th birthday, and we plan on surprising them with the trip.
I will miss all of my Magic Halloween friends and the other nice people on this meet board! Fingers are crossed that my family will travel with you on another Mickey cruise in the future.

Beth,
I'm sorry to see your family go, but I know you'll have an incredible time. Enjoy yourselves!

Will do. Promise me that you and Judy will keep me posted on your getaway cruise w/Tim in September! I still want you to come over here sometime soon and scrapbook w/me! I haven't even opened the Cricut box yet -- so come on over and get me motivated! :)

Aw, I'm sorry to see you leave!
Europe sounds wonderful. I would love to go with our kids, but DS is still a little too young yet for it. Plus, I could see how it would be hard to resist a birthday surprise trip for the girls.

You ladies are killing me! Ever since we got home, Amy has totally been into scrapping and I'm glad she had, the photos are grand!
Just wanted to pop in and say, "hello" to everyone I cruised with. I miss all of you a ton. Great times! We just booked another cruise for 2012 for podcast 4.0, though I don't think Amy has a clue of what I got her into... and to think I was the 'hater'.:lmao: I hope you all have a marvelous trip. Beth have a killer time in Europe!
