Thanks Lynette! I was hoping someone would make a thread soon. Adds to the excitement to get to share with someone.

Have you cruised with DCL before?

We haven't. We were booked on the Magic for this December - but when my DH thought he was losing his job we cancelled and booked a land trip instead (WDW was cheaper to do). He didn't get let go. So then I booked DCL Dream for next Christmas. . .but Carnival announced they were moving their new ship here to Galveston. Galveston being so close we switched.

We are really looking forward to the Fantasy. I haven't told my DDs yet, but the idea of surprising them with those play areas Disney built . . .well, it excites me.

We're hoping to make reservations for this cruise while we're onboard the Magic in January. I'm so excited! We have to fly to Florida, so we were hoping for a longer-than-4-night itinerary for one of the newest sister ships.

:dance3:Hi! I, too, am glad that this cruise meets is up and running. We had reservations for the April 2011 Dream 4 night but DH and I decided that 4 nights just wouldn't be enough so we changed to this cruise. There are three of us including DD who will be 13 (actually, she turns 14 2 days after the cruise is done!) I'm glad that she'll be old enough to do the Chill Spa on the cruise...I would've felt pretty bad that she had to miss it on the 2011 cruise.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone on this thread during the year and a half! :yay:

You're Welcome! I'm really excited to share this with someone else also. We cruised on the Magic for Halloween in 2007, but missed Castaway Cay due to bad weather, we rebooked on board for March of 2009 but decided to cancel because we wanted to use that money to help buy DVC. So we now own at AKV and have made several trips to WDW and 1 to DL to stay the GCV in Aug. I wanted to book the Dream but really wanted to do 7 nights. So it looks like this trip has been a long time in the making for both of us! :goodvibes My girls have been waiting 5 years to make it back on a Disney ship, they were so disappointed on our 2007 cruise because we didn't make it to CC (not that they have been lacking in Disney Vacations ;)) You should totally surprise them with this cruise that would be so much fun. We are taking my youngest to WDW in April to surprise her for her 12 bday...mostly because we feel bad that her older sister won a scholarship with her school to go study spainish in Spain and is going in March for 2 weeks (see I told you my kids were not lacking in the vacation dept.)

We're hoping to make reservations for this cruise while we're onboard the Magic in January. I'm so excited! We have to fly to Florida, so we were hoping for a longer-than-4-night itinerary for one of the newest sister ships. I hope you get to make reservations while on the Magic, you should save some money doing it that way :thumbsup2 I'm with you 4 or 5 nights is not worth it when you have to fly! Let us know what your doing, it will be good to have you onboard :goodvibes

So is the Chill Spa for 13 yo to 18 yo? I need to study up on this :rotfl: she would really love to do this!

I agree - 7 nights on the Fantasy sounds like more fun than 4 days on the Dream.

We have not been on any cruises yet. Our first is set for next summer - to Alaska, but with NCL. I'm really hoping we like cruising as we have a CCL one booked to surprise my DDs over Thanksgiving next year. .and now this one with DCL. It looks & sounds like a great way to see new places.

Spain? Wow - that is really amazing. I can only imagine how proud you must feel. . .that really is a special accomplishment!!

I'm sure you're going to love cruising....it will be fun to hear how you like NCL and Alaska. Maybe Disney will put the Magic in Galveston! How far do you live from the Port? We have family in Houston and if the Magic does go to Galveston that would be awesome!

We live in Houston also, so the port is not far. We surprised the girls with a long weekend in Galveston before the school year started - took them over to the port to see what a cruise ship looked like in person (the Conquest was docked). They were pretty excited about the idea of cruising.

I've wondered what I would do if the Magic did end up in Galveston. :) Right now I want the Fantasy for the play areas + getting some WDW time before we cruise - so I don't think I would switch. But if the Magic did end up in Galveston, we would save so much $ not having to fly, it would be tempting.

I got 2 cruises booked for 2011 - not sure if I can get away with that for 2012. . .but if the Magic did end up here, and went somewhere we have not been, I may have to try. LOL

Hi All! We are also booked on this cruise (Me, DH, DD will be 14, and DS will be 17 when we cruise). I hope we can keep this date. We have to wait for next years school schedules to come out before we know for sure. (This cruise might be during the last week of school and I am a teacher that cannot miss it.)

I, too, am a teacher (interesting the connections that can be made in such a short amount of time)! We have been done with school by the Friday following Memorial Day for at least the last six years in a row. I have my fingers crossed that they won't be changing that next year! I hope your schedule works out, too!

My daughter was excited about meeting girls her age, too, Lynette! I am sure we can find a way for them to get in touch with one another before cruising!

Have a great Sunday night! We're ready for the Packers VS Vikings football game (once I get my test for tomorrow completed, that is!)

Hello everyone! I just switched over from a 5-night sailing on the Dream, and booked this cruise on the Fantasy today! :cool1: After much thought, I realized I would rather do a 7-night Caribbean sailing, than a 5-night Bahamas run.

I am Monie, and I'll be travelling with my DS, who will be 11 y.o. when we sail. We haven't cruised with Disney since my son was a baby in 2001 on the Disney Wonder, :scared1:, so I'm excited to be back with Disney -- and for 7-nights!

We'll be driving down from Atlanta. We have quite a ways to go, but planning is half the fun. Look forward to getting to know everyone.

Thanks, I am very excited about this cruise! I hope the schedule will be out in the next few months.

We have done the St.Marrtin/St. Thomas cruise and would love to try something new. So, I really hope this works out. Besides, it looks like some of the kids will be around the same age.

Our family of 4 is booked on this cruise. This will be our 5th cruise with DCL, but the first time for a summer cruise to the Caribbean. Glad to see other tweens/teens already signed up. Our girls still stay in touch with a couple of the friends they made on past cruises. They will be 11 and 13 (almost 12/14) when we cruise. Moms who DIS seem to have a great deal in common too, looking forward to getting to know you guys. Never planned anything this far in advanace before, so I guess we have months/years  to organize any DISmeets and FE exchanges.

Hi All!

Nice to see a thread for this cruise already..... It will be the two of us ..DS (who will be 16 by then) and myself.

If all goes as planned...this one will be our 7th Disney Cruise when we get there..... YUP.......IT IS ADDICTING :goodvibes DS and I did a 14 day transatlantic this year ...it was amazing to be on the ship for that long... and there are still thing we have yet to do :thumbsup2

I wanted to mention, I got a good tip from a Dis-Cruise Vet this week on Booking and on board credit.... sorry for the length but it will take a few sentences to explain

I waited to book our 2011 Dream cruises (2 Back to back cruises in August) till I got on the transatlantic so I could get my OBC and discount BUT because I waited till the cruise by the time I booked I didn't get the room I wanted and the price had also gone up enough (because of the demand) that it didn't really make much of a difference in price at all.

SO when the Fantasy opened up I booked right away...AND as per one of the Dis cruisers (because they did it) ....I can REBOOK my own Fantasy reservation when I am on the Dream and get my OBC :yay: but not lose the room I wanted. So I thought I'd try it. I don't have much to lose by seeing if it is possible. I will let you guys know if it works when I get back from the Dream cruises. I hope he is right :woohoo: and I hope this is helpful.... I know it was to me.

Anyhow, nice to meet you all and I look forward to seeing you in 2012!

Hello all! I am excited to see all of the interest already! I am planning on booking this date (I say "planning" because my husband isn't ready to put the money down on another cruise until we take our Magic 2011 one!) I am trying to convince him that we can book now, get the room we want, and then try to rebook on-board in March if the price is right, plus we will already have the room we want...

It will be myself (Teri) and DH (both of us in late 30s (ugh!)), DS (7) and DD (6).

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

(Oh, and I totally do work for my next Disney vacay! I teach some online college courses and put that money straight into my vacation savings! I LOVE DCL!)

My son and I are doing a 3 night RCI (first time for a cruise line other than disney) next weekend...he has no idea..it will be a birthday suprise.... with some of my family. I am excited and I know I will have fun BUT I also know... I will be wishing it was disney ;)

:welcome: How was your first cruise? I'm happy to see you joining our thread. :goodvibes It does seem like a very long time to wait...I'm passing the time planning my ADR's for our spring break trip to WDW. :yay: I was going to do the ddp, as I have been reading the dining reviews I think I might brave the dxdp (lots of 2 credit restaurants that I want to try).

I'll be sending a FB request to join the group.

LOVED the first cruise...although it took me a couple days to realize that I loved it. The boat was rocking so much the first couple of days that it took me some time to get used too it. Everywhere I went I was staggering down the hallways trying not to run into other people....or look like I had one too many bahama mammas :rotfl2: My husband didn't mind a bit, he just thought of it as rocking him to sleep.

Wow, braving WDW for spring break? I did that twice at Disneyland and decided I wouldn't do it again. Instead we braved Christmas and New Years at WDW last year! Talk about crowded :)

Our first cruise was the same way my youngest got sick in the middle of the Golden Mickey's...it was awful. We didn't even get to go to Castaway Cay because of a hurricane.

I have no idea what I'm thinking going during spring break (I must be crazy) but spring break is close to my youngest DD's bday this year and she was feeling bad because her older sister is going to Spain with her school. I hope I can keep the surprise!

My wife and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary on this cruise. This will be our 5th Disney cruise. We are especially glad the Fantasy will be coming on line as it means we can go to the Caribbean during June.

We are also asking our relatives if they want to come along. So it will be more than just the 2 of us.

Hi everyone:wave2:, we will be joining your cruise (unless I get a miracle deal on the MV lol). We just got off the magic a few weeks ago and re-booked for this date with the intention of moving to the Madien Voyage but too cheap to lose my 10% on board booking discount!
Our family is Me38 Andrea, DH39 Matt, DD14 Madison, DD12 Morgan, DS11 Parker and DD7 Mikelyn (all at sailing).

This will be our 5th DCL cruise, unless my crazy MIL is serious about taking us to Alaska this summer :rolleyes1. This is our 3rd western, I REALLY wanted to do the eastern again for something different but the darn June 16th sailing was too full & we couldn't find decent adjoining or even next to each other cabins.

We live is sunny So Cal, and we can't wait to cruise again. My older DD's like to meet others their age before we cruise, I haven't read through the thread yet but if you have a DD around those ages they would love to email and get to know them!

Can't wait to get to know all of you!

OK, I went back and read all the posts, I can't believe how many teens there are, my DD's will be very happy! I also noticed quite a few of us have a penchant for M named kids lol.

This will be the first time we've cruised in the summer, I'm hoping it's not blazing hot. We usually cruise the week before Christmas break so the kids have 2 weeks to make up their homework. It will be interesting to be on the ship without Christmas decorations.

My girls were ecstatic to see so many teens/tweens. We surprised them with the Dec 2010 cruise and although they were haPpy to cruise, they were whining about not knowing anyone and not thrilled with having to make friends on the fly. lol
My DS was perfectly happy making friends with DCL's Xbox though. He never has trouble finding a video game he gets along with:laughing:

I can't tell you how happy I would be if they did change it, we really wanted to do the Eastern this time. It could be because they pushed the MV up a week and kept it as a western (doing 2 westerns in a row) maybe the computer system automatically defaults to every other week is western and that made it think we are on an Eastern (or maybe there is a god at Disney who heard my plea for and Eastern that week?:worship:)

Anyone have a name suggestion for our little group?

Pirates and Parrotheads sail the Caribbean?
Living the Dream on the Fantasy?
Sailing into Summer on the Fantasy?
Frenzy on the Fantasy (or Friend-zy on the Fantasy for a play on words?)
Fins up on the Fantasy (incorporates Jimmy B into the mix lol)
I've only crusied DCL in December and we've always had a Christmas theme to it, so I'm coming up with some lame suggestions.

Hi again...Just checking in, too. I also like the Fantastic Fantasy Fanatics! I checked roll call on the first page and realized that I had omitted DD's age...she'll turn 14 two days after the cruise is over. It'll make the tween/teen club thing interesting! At least I am sure she can enjoy the Chill Spa! I got her a 1/2 hour massage as a gift and she loved, loved, loved it!

Hope you enjoy the rest of winter! Here in the UP of Michigan it's been cold but not too snowy (yet!). As a teacher I'm waiting for a snow day here or there but no luck yet!

Glad the school calender worked our for you, Jodijo! We actually get done on the 2nd of June (and if DD has to miss the last couple of days of school it doesn't really matter that much)!

Can't wait for those trip & ROOM reports to start coming in from the Dream. We're on Deck 9 (inside Cat 10A). How about everyone else?

We also got a recent trip "pack" (in addition to the one we got a couple of months ago) but ours was for the Western. We, too, booked on the first day.

We have three children Brendan (11 at sailing), Tristan (9 at sailing), and Madison (turning 5 two months after sailing).

I will send a request via Facebook! I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you! :goodvibes
Welcome! I have a Madison too (she'll be 14 by the time we sail).

Hi all! Just booked our cruise as well. :) I'm excited because this will be our first DCL adventure. I'm a teacher too and I'm glad I found this thread to get to know all of you! It will be me Shannon, my husband Sam, our son Morgan (age 10 at sailing) and our daughter Lily (age 8 at sailing).

Welcome! I have a Morgan too (girl, 12 at sailing) and I have a DD who will be 7 1/2!

It seems like the Fantastic Fantasy Fanatics is the consensus so I'll get to work!
I've had the week from hell- One kid on crutches from a dislocated knee, 3 kids with viral infections and one case of lice! (and a Belated Birthday Party, lots of overtime and GIrl SCout Cookie Sales all added into that mix!)

Hopefully this week will be a bit more calm and I will have time to make something.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Very cool! You have talent! I can see I will be admiring your door graphics:thumbsup2

One of my son's fav is chip and dale....so it be good for him too

A character question? Do we know who's "boat" it is yet?
(like the Dream is Kind of Donald's boat?...donald statue in lobby etc...)
We could do one with that character on it too! Just a thought

Hi there,

We will be joining you on this cruise. This will be my 8th DCL cruise, DH's 7th, DS 6th (Grady who will be 11 and 2 weeks from turning 12 - so this will be his Birthday cruise) and DD 6th (Megan who will be 9 on this cruise). We just finished an Eastern on the Magic and booked the June 23rd cruise, but this week worked a lot better for us. We will be cruising with our friends and her sister is looking at booking it too.

We are in a 6a - room #9674 - our first veranda as a family!

I'm booked with a friend on the Dream (My cruise #7 in September and that will be my first veranda experience) We've always had either inside staterooms or oceanview.

Here is my first completed logo. I have a couple others in mind if this one doesn't "fit" our group. Or if you like this one but think a diff font or character would be better then let me know and I can tweek it a bit.

Love it!!! :thumbsup2 I just love having a logo for the cruise! When we get the final image can it be a little smaller so it will fit in my Signature line?

I will need to switch the one I have now with the new one.

Has anyone checked out how much the cost of our cruise has increased just in the last 2 days? The same category I booked when bookings opened in October is now almost $1500 more! :scared1: I'm SOOO glad I booked back when I did, cuz if I had waited till now, we wouldn't be going! I wonder what's caused the dramatic increase in price? :confused3

I can't believe the price jump. My theory is all of those MV Dream cruisers booked our cruise (or the one right after it) on board last week.
I am SOOO glad we booked when we did! We are in 5190 & 5192 Aft Verandahs. When my TA got back from the Christening cruise and showed me pics of the rooms, huge verandahs (there is a crew access area next to our verandah where we can open our verandah to and have a triple wide verandah!) and the fact that our hallway is a dead end-so we won't have a lot of traffic, I was SOLD!

I know this is a bit 'off-topic', and I also posted a message on our Facebook page.

For anyone that's a DVC owner in our group, I'm looking to take my son to Disney World this Fall (our FIRST onsite visit!) and would like to rent at a DVC onsite property. Can anyone advise what's the best way to rent from a DVC owner? You can send me a private message if that's better. I just don't know how to go about trying to rent at a DVC and thought that someone on here might know.

Thanks so much! :goodvibes

A couple of us mentioned a dis-meet and FE exchange right after we booked. I have not arranged any meets in the past, but I did organize the FE exchange on our last cruise. I am willing to put together the FE exchange list again, but that can begin closer to cruise time. The good part of booking so far in advance is you can be on the lookout for great FE stuff.:thumbsup2 Unfortunately the number of FE participants almost always increases exponentially :scared1: 1 month prior to sail, so you never know just how much "stuff" to get. :confused3

YEAH! Thanks for volunteering. I've organized the last two we've been on and I learned that it's better to post the FE about 6 months in advance with a cut off date about 60 days before the cruise just so that we don't have to stress about making additional FE gifts during the time that we should be packing! It's no fun stressing out about something like that when you should be getting excited to cruise!

I think there was a height minimum (my then 4 year old was tall enough but they made her wear a lifevest). Definitely no age limit- DH and I went on it a few times after watching the kids for hours. It is too much fun! (Oh and there was lots of free tequila shots going on the dance floor while we were there in the middle of the day!)

It's an easy 3-4 block walk from the tender station. Last cruise it was so windy that we had to dock on the opposite side of the island but they offered free shuttles to all the fun places..

Temps have been basically warm during the day and cool once the sun goes down when we go in June (this is our 6th straight Father's Day trip). Chilly nights are relative. It is more So Cal chilly. :thumbsup2 I'm sure a light jacket or sweater is maybe all you will need.

I would HIGHLY recommend the World of Color with either the meal or the picnic. We did Ariels Grotto mainly because the food choices fit our family better. I think if you are coming all the way over here, it is well worth the extra. I also suggest getting into the first show of the evening. I love the pre-show, but then we haven't seen it for almost a whole year. Definitely read through threads that tell you the best places to stand. I have been told that the further you are back the better to take it all in but where that is exactly is tough.

Silly, you said you were going today, how was it? Did you see about the fire in the new Cars area? I hope it didn't put a damper on your day. it sounded like it wasn't a big deal but Disney has good PR people. :wizard: It had to be a beautiful day either way, I hope you put sunscreen on!:hippie:

I'm new to a Disney Cruise Thread so since I have some time until we depart422 days but who counting I thought I would add my name to the list.

We sailed in January 2010 on the Eastern Caribbean and we have been wanting to do the Western. We just booked it on Saturday and we are all super excited.

Myself (Cynthia) DH (Neil), DS (John Wesley - 11 -Turns 12 on the day we arrive back on port on the 16th) and DD (Adrianna - 8 - turns 9 two weeks later). Needless to say we will be heading to WDW for his special day before returning home.

Wishing everyone a magical evening.:thumbsup2

Hi everyone...Just checking in. Our cruise can't come fast enough. I've had a tough couple of weeks recently and I'm really in need of a Disney retreat. Checking up on the boards and listening to MouseWorld radio has helped, but nothing compared to a Disney trip. I'm also helping my wife's cousin with her WDW trip planning.

Well, thanks for listening. Can't wait to meet everyone on board the Fantasy :) BTW, I was fooled by that Duffy report for about 30 minutes. Anyone else?

Hello everyone! It's been a while since we checked in as we went to DC and points east for Spring Break. Hit the Cherry Blossom Festival and had a great time. DH always says I shouldn't plan the next vacation before this years is over so....I can now "officially" plan this cruise (though I booked on opening day last fall!). It'll be nice to have only one trip to think about for the next.....14 months!!!

Have a great spring. We're definitely jealous of all of the Disneyland and WDW trips people have planned but I guess we can enjoy your stories and trip reports while we muddle through.:thumbsup2

We have two of the aft 6b Verandahs so two times this size?!

If it's true, we'd be glad to host a pre dinner mingle one night!!! GEEZ I can't get over the size!

We have one of these too! How cool to actually see one! I have one of the larger Verandahs on deck 5 for my Dream cruise in Sept, but I don't think it will be anything like this one!

Hi everyone! We will be on the Fantasy will y'all. We had originally booked an Alaskan cruise this summer, but we decided to sail on the Allure and move our booking to the Fantasy instead. This will be our third Disney cruise and second Disney western itinerary. By the time we cruise, we will have also done at least three other cruises. It will be DH, DS, and myself. DS' age at the time of the cruise will be 8. We miss not getting to do a Disney cruise before next June, but at least we only live an hour from WDW. We look forward to a lot of fun:)

I just got my inspiration for the FE exchange today, so I am excited to get the sign-ups going. Here are the basic guidelines that those participating agree to…

1. Gifts may be for either individuals or families, it’s up to your discretion and imagination. Just give something that you would be happy to receive in return.
2. Gifts may be delivered at any time during the cruise, allowing the givers to distribute them as they see fit. (I.e. All in one day, a couple of little gifts given over several days, passing out gifts to different decks on different days, etc.)
3. This is an honor system, so please be honorable and follow through on your intentions and commitment.

To sign up, please PM me the following info. If you want to email me, or you don't have enough posts to PM me, you can do so at lstenfort@yahoo.com.
Board Name:
Real Names and ages of Family Members (in case of personalization, and you can just say AD for adults. LOL!):
Cabin # if you have it:
Email address (Will not be given out. Only used for me to send you the final list):

I will compile the info. and distribute it only to those participating before the cruise. I will not give anyone else this information, nor use it for any other purposes. Your privacy will be respected. :thumbsup2

Hey there Lynette, please add us to the roll call. It will be me, DW, DD (11), DS (8) and DS (8). This will be the 12th DCL cruise for me, the wife and daughter and #5 for the twins. Yes, we are crazy and we are parrottheads to boot!

We were on the Dream for a 5 night double dip in June and it was fantastic as always. Since we have done a double dip before we have now spent a total of two weeks on Castaway Cay, one of my favorite places on earth. Please don't let some of those negative trip reports get to you. The new ship was different, but just as great as the Magic and Wonder and the Disney service was there as well. We went on Freedom of the Seas in August, and let me tell you there is HUGE difference and Disney does it so much better.

Anyway, we have been to the ports of call many times, so if you have any questions about them or the ship - ask away.

Hello, fellow cruisers!

Life has been busy, so it's been a while since I've been on here. So, I just wanted in and remind you that we do have a FE Exchange going on for this cruise. We'd love to have you join us if you're interested. We simply ask that you commit to delivering gifts to other participants some time during the cruise. You can do one item for the whole family, or different items for different age groups/people, it's up to you. The most important thing is that you do deliver your gifts at your convenience, and give something you'd be happy to receive.

Here's who I have down as participating so far...
Sammatt (2 rooms)
dlafarrell
SillyandI (2 rooms)
MariaFan22 (2 rooms)
Pixiedust215
sammydent
Pauley family

If you'd like to join, feel free to send me a PM or email me. lstenfort@yahoo.com :thumbsup2

I read this on the budget board and signed my MC up today:

Mastercard is offering a free $20 gift card when you register your card and spend $200 online between now and Dec. 31, 2011. Details here:

https://holiday.mastercard.com/

It is legit however, since it just goes thru 12/31 and was limited to 80,000 not sure if they have capped out yet. I went ahead and paid for my airline ticket (SW so if prices go down, I can still get credit from them) and hopefully I will get an $20 gift card for purchase from MC.

Also, if you have a Disney Visa card and are not a DVC member, you can call 888-838-1406 and take a over the phone tour ( need to be by a computer ) and they will send you a $40 Disney gift card. You need to be have a Disney card and provide the first 6 digits of the card. I dont have one but, my sister does, so I had her do it. Takes maybe 10 minutes or so.

Love getting these prices down. I got a deal on my return airfare because I have had many numerous problems with Delta ( unfortunately, still did ) so I got return from Orlando to Tucson for $215 for 2 people!!!! Now of course, we will have to probably pay $120 for our luggage but we can use the cruise transfer and not have to worry about our baggage etc. The cost combined would probably be the minimum that SW would charge and they are not set up on the transfers etc thru DCL. This way, I'm not letting the vouchers ( there were 5 ) from Delta go to waste ( they expired in Aug anyway ). The only down side is that it is a two stop trip. Delta changes flight times so often, hopefully it will be changed in my favor as we get closer to departure. +

Just wondering if anyone has had this happen. I had booked our room as a 9A originally using the dreams unlimited travel agency. Now I see on the DCL website that we have been assigned a category 9C room - one with an obstructed view. I thought we were guaranteed our room category and couldn't be assigned to a lower class of room? I emailed dreams unlimited, but was wondering if that has ever happened to anyone else? We booked the room in November 2010.

Hi All!

After seeing the pics of the new ship coming out of dry dock, I'm finally starting to get excited about this cruise! I am married to RAHRAH who posted quite a while ago. We will be celebrating our 30th anniv. on this cruise. We will be joined by DH's parents who are first time DCL cruisers. Should be a fun time!

We did a NCL cruise (Boston to Bermuda) last summer (won't do that again!!)
so am really looking forward to being back on DCL where they know how to make people happy  :goodvibes:

I don't FB or any other social media so I'll be checking in here periodically to see what's going on.

Nice to meet all of you!

We will be on this cruise. It will be our third Disney cruise. We were supposed to go last year to Alaska out of Vancouver and moved our booking to the Fantasy.

DH
me
DS - 8

We have done the FE in the past. We are waiting to see the number before we decide. Last time, we had a lot of last minute adds and ended up with an unusually large number of participants. It was a lot of fun but a lot of work. DH doesn't want to work:)

Hi everyone, just checking back in. :)

I am pretty excited because I just made our final payment. It's especially nice because my husband's company dropped the vacation sell back program unexpectedly that we planned to use to pay for the rest of this cruise, and I thought we were going to have to cancel my son's graduation/18th bday cruise we promised him. We had to cut waaaaay back on some stuff and between that and some financial finagling we figured it out. So I guess I'm doubly excited!

I feel a little like a newbie with the Fantasy. We had the Magic/Wonder thing figured out, but it's like a whole new ball game now. No idea about the new boarding process, or Remy, or any of that. It's fun to have some unknowns to look forward to.

Anyone planned any excursions, etc. yet? We've been on the Western before, but never to Costa Maya, so that's where I'm looking right now. I think we are going to do a Mayan ruins tour, my kids are old enough to appreciate it now. And if they don't, they should appreciate that they can be quiet or next time I'll leave them home.

Time is getting shorter, it will be here before we know it! :)

I think it is post #200. I would also like to know. My DD really wants to do it, and I loved our last one, but I also made laminated DIS lanyard tags for everyone on our cruise meet thread and it got to be a pretty big project! I saw another group who had decided to divide their FE if it got past 20 cabins, I thought that was a nice solution for one that got too large.

Well, if you find one ask if they have group discounts. I am totally jealous of your "back to back" cruise! I would like to do one someday. Still, I thought our first would be our one and only and somehow we are coming up on my 6th (kids 5th) Disney Cruise, so I guess I'm pretty lucky. :)

I had a dummy booking I needed to move so I moved it to the EBTA for May 2013. I doubt we'll actually be able to go as I realized my DD would miss 2-1/2 of her last 3 weeks of 8th grade. That's finals and "graduation" so probably not. (Not to mention we usually don't have to fly, but this time would have to add about $4k for that.) My DS will be a college freshman next year and out in early May, so I'm wondering if I can get away with just me and him. Also probably not if DH has anything to say about it, lol. Still, I can hope, right?

No clue what's up with the boards, lately is the worst I've seen it in all the years I've posted here. A few times I've seen it time stamp stuff all wrong... people's questions were getting answered before they were even asking them! :rotfl:

My DS was in 8th when we did the EBTA, glad we did it then vs. High school. Seems like HS is harder. He had to do a "report". Plus what a great graduation present! Plus you are only flying one way (do I have ya convinced yet ??LOL)

I have this "if you deposit ...it will come" philosophy LOL We will get to the Med even if we are riding on a wing! :cloud9:

Da Board is a little better this AM...:woohoo: Hope it stays this way.

I agree middle school is definitely easier than HS. I still might consider it, but she doesn't like the idea because of the timing – I suspect it's more missing the "end of middle school" festivities than anything else. ;) Also I'm not sure how willing the teachers would be to work with us on having her finals a week or two early. Seems like the older they get, the harder it is. We've been taking them out since they were little to cruise and never regretted it, but my DS has been doing dual enrollment at a university for the last year and a half and he missed a week last November and said it was a lot tougher to recover and he would likely not do it again in college. I guess missing a couple of calculus classes can really set you back. I wouldn't know as I think they lost me around algebra somewhere, lol.

Amazing how those deposits seem to turn into cruises that you didn't know where you coming up with the money for, isn't it? :)

Are you planning on any excursions, etc. yet? I'm not not quite sure what we are doing. We did the Western about 3 years ago and loved it, but we did more excursions than usual. Prob going to be on more of a budget for this one, and I think I'll be spending my excursion money on Remy, haha. We really loved the ATV one we did in Cozumel and I think the Xrails would be fun, but that one is pricey for four so we'll see. We always have fun whether we do a bunch of excursions or not!

Hello, fellow cruisers! Yes, I've been over on the FB page, so don't stop in here too often. Right now, the FE group has about 18 cabins participating.

In order to keep the FE group a manageable size, and to have time to gather appropriate items, I will be closing the group at the end of the month. At that time I'll compile the info and send it out, so people can plan accordingly. If you'd like to join, let me know by Feb. 29th. :) Send an email with your room #, names, and kids' ages to lstenfort@yahoo.com. :thumbsup2

Hey there - I posted many months ago and have not been back for awhile.

Since we are Platinum I was able to book everything last Thursday night. I logged in at midnight and by 12:04 got the last family cabana on Castaway Cay. Everything else was pretty wide open and I did change my times for both Palo (Costa Maya Day) and Remy (Day 6 - Sea Day) yesterday and almost every time was still available.

Hard to believe it is less than 4 months away since booking way back in 2010.

try and reserve a cabana and now they are Sold Out. Ugh! I don't think there is much chance of one becoming available, either, but I'm crossing my fingers. I really wanted to rent one, just to try something different!

I haven't been on here much AT ALL but I'm vowing to keep myself informed on all this DIS from now til the cruise!

Has anyone been to Costa Maya? I've read on other forums its a giant tourist trap designed by cruise companies to keep a captive audience, but I've heard that about Nassau too and that wasn't our experience.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

So far the only thing the kids absolutely want to do is parasailing on CC. (well, 7 yr old wants to go back and vist "her dolphin" at Chankanaab but otherwise they don't care to even look at excursions). Maybe I'll leave them on the ship and DH and I will explore the ports ourselves, lol.

We went to Costa Maya back in 07 or 08 before a hurricane pretty much demolished everything. The acutal pier was destroyed and I think the port was closed for over a year. Back then there was a cheesy area where the ship docks that had a bunch of shops, a pool, and some restaurants. We took a cab to Majahual, which was a small town with a sand road down the middle. There were a number of shops and we ended up stopping at a place where you paid something like $20 per person and all the drinks and food are included. They had a beach area with seating, umbrellas. They also had some kayaks you could use. The locals were really great and it was a perfect day.

I think everything is pretty much built again - so you just go through the shopping area and grab a taxi. The town is no more than 5 minutes away. We will be heading there for sure.

We made our final payment today. YEA!!!! Any word on the size of the FE list?

We were in Costa Maya in January. There is still a lot of damage from Hurrican Ivan, but it seemed like a quaint little place. We enjoyed it to just relax and have a nice little bit of down time. We walked around, our DS 8 and I held a tiger cub (priceless), and we checked out the jade museum for information that I could take back to my mom who is a Spanish teacher. The people are very friendly.

As for excursions, I think my son is going to play tennis in Grand Cayman. In Cozumel, we are thinking about the manatee swim. That one is a little ironic given that we live in Florida. For Costa Maya, we are just going to relax. I think DS is looking forward to seeing what type of cub is available for pictures again. At CC, DS wants to do the stingray thing again before exploring the waterpark stuff. We may do the 5K if I can get myself in gear and get my knee where it needs to be. That is a huge IF.

Okay, I am sure that is way more than any of you wanted to know. I hope everyone is doing well:)

Hello All!

We will be sailing out on this cruise along with you. It will be me, DW, and DD(12). We have been on 2 Christmas Cruises :santa: (Magic Southern in 2010, Magic Western in 2011), but are looking forward to trying out a summer cruise. We have really enjoyed doing the FE on our other cruises, so will definitely be joining in on this one also. Our previous FE holder has been POTC pirate: stockings, so we need to come up with a new design for the different season.

We look forward to meeting everyone, and it is just over 100 days away.

Welcome jenedpey, and congrats eeyoremommy on final payment. For me that always makes the cruise feel like a reality.

Glad to see our thread is getting some replies. :) There is also a facebook group, and people are just as nice, but to be honest I still kind of prefer the DIS for precruise communication. Guess I'm just used to it. Or could be because there are better smilies. :rotfl:

Last I heard the FE group was around 18 or 19 cabins, I think Lisa (sammatt) is planning on closing it at the end of this month, her email address is in post 223 if anyone needs it to join the group.

Almost down to double digits! :cool1:

Hey Sherry, DS and I are looking at the manatee thing too... pretty resonable and looks cool, final decision by Midweek. We are doing the big zipline tour and the stingray city for the other two places. We havent swam with stingrays since our 1st cruise 6/7 years ago, so we thought it might be fun.

Welcome jenedpey! We have done a holiday cruise before, I like to cruise in warmer weather because any water under 85 is cold to me :scared1: ....so I really like summer in the islands:cool2:

Booking opens for second leg this weekend, it is all coming together!:woohoo:

We are planning on going on a non DCL Stingray tour in Grand Cayman in order to have a smaller group. Like a couple of you, we have cruised in November and December on Disney. It will be nice to really enjoy Castaway Cay when the water isn't so cold. It has been a few years since we've done the stingrays there. That was one reason we were going to do them again. We're afraid that although our DS is 8 and has gone swimming with dolphins and sea lions, he is a little on the small side (46 pounds and 4'2" tall) and may get freaked out by the larger rays of Grand Cayman.

I, too, like the Dis over facebook. I have a hard enough time keeping up with my face book as it is. Hope everyone is well:)

Hi all,

Checking back in as we get close to final payment. I'm not on Facebook, so this is the only place to meet you all.

eeyoremommy, our DS8 is even smaller than your guy - only 3' 11". He is also 46 lbs and is hoping there won't be a problem for him to tandem parasail at Castaway Cay with me or DH. My understanding is that the weight minimum is 90 lbs between both of us, so it shouldn't be a problem, right?

We did the dolphins and Turtle Farm in GC last time, so I think we're just going to do Seven Mile beach on our own. I am also intrigued by the Margaritaville pool (and their margaritas!), so may try to stop there in the afternoon on the way back to the ship. Anyone interested in meeting up at Margaritaville?

Anybody know where they are staying pre-cruise? We drive down, and have usually stayed at the Radisson, but thinking about CI&S.

We are staying for a few days afterward for my son's UCF orientation, so sending my husband home on a plane. Booked a hotel by the airport and one by UCF, and I'm working on one for a soccer tournament at Disney we are attending Memorial Day weekend. Starting to feel like a travel agent! :rotfl:

We are staying for a few days afterward for my son's UCF orientation, so sending my husband home on a plane. Booked a hotel by the airport and one by UCF, and I'm working on one for a soccer tournament at Disney we are attending Memorial Day weekend. Starting to feel like a travel agent! :rotfl:

Right now we are booked at the Residence Inn, but if I get a cheaper rate somewhere else we will switch..

We have only cruised in Dec on DCL so I'm worried we are going to be too hot going in June, lol.
I can't get my kids to commit to any excursions (except parasailing) so I guess I'll be picking everything we're doing.

We have stayed at both the Radisson and the Country Inn and Suites. I like the latter much better. Now that we live closer, we will be driving over that morning. UCF has a beautiful campus. We were there last April when my son did State Odyssey of the Mind. We had a great time, and I couldn't tell you how many elementary school kids we had there just from our school. It seems like it would be a good university. It also seems a little safer than USF, a least some of the surrounding neighborhoods do.

SJCruiser...you make me feel a little better. I don't know anything about the parasailing. I would think similarly to you though. I don't think I could get my DS to do that. We tried to get him to zipline on the Allure of the Seas, but he refused after he saw how badly I was shaking when I finished. I have a slight fear of heights, but I wanted to show him I could do it.

We are coming in Friday night and staying at the Country Inn and Suites. I have not stayed at the port one (canaveral) but I have stayed at other ones and really liked them. I like the breakfast thing...I usually go down to the breakfast area in my PJs and bring it all back to the room for breakfast in Bed :cool1:

UCF has a beautiful campus. We were there last April when my son did State Odyssey of the Mind.

My daughter's intermediate school did OM for the first time the last year she went there (5th grade), and she got picked to be part of it. What a cool thing! I got to help some. We didn't have a clue how it worked, wish I could have done it again.

I really like the campus at UCF also. DS is pretty excited about being in a big city, and it gives me an excuse to visit Orlando and shop, um, I mean spend time with him. Lol.

Sounds like the Country Inn and Suites is a great place to stay, probably going to do that. Joi, I like your breakfast idea. We do that on the cruise, I like to eat on the verandah. But I inevitably have too much stuff on my tray and get funny looks from people that I pass on the stairs.

I went onto the DCL site today and it says "Only 99 days until your cruise sets sail!"

That's official double digits!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Hi Lori, welcome to the thread!

I think it would be fun to travel with a family group like that. So far it's just been my family of 4, but I'm trying to get my sister to book with my 5 year old niece. I think my mom might enjoy going as well.

Which itinerary have you done before? We've done both eastern and western but like the western a bit better. If I could get the extra sea day of the eastern thrown in it would be perfect!

It's been five years since Magic in Med so we can't wait till Fantasy on June 9th! Dusting off my Disboard skills so may take a while to get back up to speed. Celebrating DD high school graduation with DW.

Any feedback from others on this thread appreciated.

We did a 3 night cruise on the Dream...which DH and DS both said was way too short! They have been angling for another cruise ever since! I'm having mixed feelings about a longer cruise - we were planning a trip to WDW and somehow I ended up with a cruise? I'm still a little shell shocked! ;)

But it's a GOOD shell-shocked! I'm getting excited just listening to the family get excited!

What was your favorite part of the Western? Is Costa Maya a newer stop? I noticed there weren't any excursions listed. I think it will be nice not to be running like crazy like our first cruise - I can't believe we are almost at the 90 day mark!

Woo hoo! Just paid in full for the cruise. So excited! Can't wait to do all the check-ins and reservations this Sunday night (we are Silver CC).

Paid with our recently upgraded Disney VISA Premier, so looking forward to the 5% reward on this payment. Plus, I just called DCL to see why they hadn't assigned us any OBC related to booking with the Disney VISA, and the CM added $50 OBC to our account. Yea!! Don't want to pass up "free" benefits!

We have been on 2 westerns before (1 DCL, 1 RCCL). We really like Grand Cayman. Never been to Costa Maya and may not even get off the ship there. We did the Tulum tour on the mainland for our Cozumel stop many years ago, and then missed Cozumel during the H1N1 scare. So I think we're going to try to do something on Cozumel this time, since we've never set foot on the island.
