I was surprised to find other cruisers so early because this isn't a vacation week. Our last DCL cruise was during a Feb vacation and the thread was immediately active.
Hopefully a lot of people join us!

OK, I'll start the info:
My DH and I are cruising without our kids for the first time. To make a long story short, with 1 in college, and the other two in HS (as of next year), school and athletic schedules don't permit us to cruise at the same time. Couple that with points that have to be used by January 2012, and, that brings us to our trip. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary early.
DH and I are both in our mid 40s. What else do you want to know??:)

We met on the thread here on the disboards. We were friends on facebook and texted each other on our phones. Then when we met on the cruise, it was like we had known each other forever!

My daughter is 7. By the time we go on this cruise, she will have just turned 9. Also, have a son that will be 3 on this cruise.

Sue, just to fill you in on this, as you know, I was on 2 cruises right next to each other. My first mistake was being in charge of the FE list. OH BOY!!! bad bad idea. But that wasnt the whole problem. I would tell one group that we were to find each other by the leis we were going to wear, but that wasnt this group. It was horrible. So I kept saying it was because I was ADD and I was distracted by waffles and bunnies. So a girl on the thread asked ****** to make me a license plate with thumper holding a waffle. BUT!! I was NOT the only one seeing rabbits with waffles (getting confused)!! Webmeister did it too!! So since it was about the RABBIT! not ME!! It should be Thumper's return! Anyone wanna vote?

Yep, we booked this morning! Now I have started the whole transfer to DU thing yesterday so, hopefully by tomorrow or Tuesday that will be done and I'll get another $100 OBC!

I have a question...what types of room does everyone here have?

DCL told me Jen has a Navigator's Verandah category (secret Verendah, right Jen?) and Jackie has a white wall one? Is that right? We booked a White Wall one. buit I don't know why...please tell me why you booked what you did...ie Steph, Jackie, Sue (HI SUE!!!) :goodvibes

Who's using DVC points for the cruise? Someone, right? I could do that, but we are planning on using a bunch of points at the end of '12 to go to Jamaica....(still have to book that actually!) Hopefully we'll be able to save and pay as we go for this cruise. Heck, we have more than a year! I told Eoghan (DH) this morning that if we get any tax refund, we can use it towards the trip! tee hee.

Ok, just checking in, we just got in from the dog park and now to do some stuff around the house!

Lori.. I got the white wall because it was a lot cheaper, Jeff said he didn't mind, and I don't think I will mind. I would be more than happy if they wanted to upgrade say... to where Stephanie is (she got a cool room) but I think I'm going to really like where I'm at. I really don't think that elevator is going to be that busy and we'll have our own huge private deck(7) to party on. Who's making that out of order sign.:lmao: Oh and I don't have to wonder which direction something is on the ship... it's all the same direction from our rooms. ;)

We chose 7520 (cat 5b) because we like to be as forward as possible to avoid smoke on the veranda (allergies). We could have been more forward, but the other two more forwards were connecting, which we try to avoid because of the potential noise from the connecting cabin, and because families may want the connecting rooms. It's also a bit cheaper than a cat 5a. This is our first veranda on DCL-when we cruise with our kids on DCL we usually get connecting cat 8's. We also like the views from this side of the ship.
(and I must have ESP because I booked down the hall from other people on this thread;))

Well I booked a secret verandah because it is priced at a Navigator's Verandah and yet you get a verandah. I HAVE to have a verandah. I was spoiled with the verandah from the last cruise and I just cant go back to anything else. Jackie felt left out last cruise ands we begged Steph to be by us too. Sue is just cool :cool2:

Yeah the first group I wasn't able to see everyone because it was too big but I got to know everyone at dinner. I wonder what would happen if we got too many to all sit at a table. If we have to sit at more than one table, then I suggest that we rotate tables each night so we can get to know everyone, but if everyone participates in some of the other activities, we will be able to get to know everyone pretty good.

Ok, so I called DCL in the meantime and the transfer has not gone through as of yet. They said it took 24 hours...not sure with the Saturday, so I will wait until tomorrow.
In the meantime, it does not excuse not replying to my e-mails.

I am definitely going to either have DCL stop the transfer or I will use another TA if I don't hear anything or it doesn't go through by tomorrow morning...

DCL said they could stop the transfer now, but when I found out it would take 24 hours, I told them it was ok, I'd wait a day. The only thing, is what does that mean, that DU doesn't work on Saturdays!?!?!?!

I'm thinking I just should have stayed with DCL or tried another TA that I've worked with in the past....I only was switching for the extra $OBC. Maybe the universe is trying to tell me I'm greedy or something! ;)

Actually I have a friend from around there somewhere...because I'm pretty sure his team is Middlesbrough. I will have to check with him and confirm...

My husband is from Ireland and is a die-hard Manchester United supporter and I'm Liverpool 'till I die, so it makes things interesting in our house for the 10 months of the year during the season for sure!:lmao:

I try to refer to people by their screen names to cut down on the confusion but sometimes I forget. If you dont remember just say "hey! Who's Alex?" uh...I mean "who's Stephanie" or whomever. (we had a running joke on a guy they would always refer to Alex when his screen name was AllTexan. I didnt remember anyplace that told me Alex was AllTexan so I asked. They informed me. Then they would let weeks go by and I would forget so someone else would say "Alex is doing this" and I would say "who's Alex?" So it got so bad that when anyone at all would refer to Alex I would say "WHO'S ALEX!!!" hahahaha)

To book any excursions or Palos ressie or anything like that, you go through DCL's site. I dont think your TA will have access to that.

They give you a password, or ask for one, when they book you. I actually signed up with a password when I got my first quote and they kept it the same throughout (which is good because I would forget it if they kept changing it! :scared1:)

Hi! I am not sure what I am going to do. I usually (well, the first cruise) come in the night before and spend the night at Port Canaveral but I would have to take off work on Friday AND the airfares are cheaper on Saturday. I hate cutting it close like that ESPECIALLY in January! We usually get our winter weather then. Plus, I hate to fly. I am still not sure if we are going to drive or fly down there. I want to drive but mom hates driving and thinks Victoria wont be able to handle a 12 hour hard drive. I think she is just trying to find an excuse to fly again. In Sept when I flew, I was TERRIFIED! I dont see how anyone couldnt being that high off the ground. UNNATURAL!! Anyway, that is not what you asked. There goes that rabbit again!

if we drive, or if we fly in the night before, I was thinking of staying at WDW. More than likely they will have some kind of discount code for that time of year. It will probably run the same amount as icky Radisson. Then it is just a 45 minute drive to the port.

No other flights would have been available and we would have missed the cruise. We flew on a Wednesday (? or Thursday), but it was the week before Feb vacation, which is a HUGE factor around here--everyone who can evacuates to warmer climates in February, lol.

Lori spill it... what info did you find out? I have a white wall veranda, is mine smaller as well? I'd love to have a clear but I really don't want to upgrade at this point and I really like being right next to the deck I think we can all use to drink at night.:thumbsup2 and breakfast upstairs. You know there is a pretty good picture of back of the boat and the verandas on Disney under, I think, Caribbean cruises... or maybe just ships, Magic. It's the other side but we can see the opposite state rooms

Once it gets closer we will know how many days early we are going and if we are going to do parks or not with this vacation.

Even if we don't do parks we will probably stay at Disney. We like to start our vacation out with staying on property to get into the magical spirit of it all. Kids like to swim (if it's warm enough) and just knowing they are at Disney is a treat. We sometimes also will want to do a character meal at a resort so we kick off in Disney style without having to pay for a park.

Sue I am with ya! We are from NY State and we would love to not have to always fly in a day early but we feel there is no way around it. In fact like you were saying I really feel worried unless I know I have a few days leeway.

Last May we flew to Vegas in beautiful weather but the flight had a problem and we almost didn't make it out. We had to change to a different flight and we were lucky to get the spots we did. We kept saying phew! Thank god it wasn't a cruise! Getting to Vegas a few hours later wasn't a big deal but with a cruise it is too stressful.

Add in our weather and there is no way we can chance it! Anyway we think it is a good excuse to add some days on to our vacation. :thumbsup2

According to the Passporter diagram, your room's verandah looks the same as all the others, but the room next you (which is the room we got, but on the other side) is smaller due to the shape of the front of the ship.

Well, I would think it would have freaked me out too. I have a thing with heights and water. I hate driving over bridges that are over water....land, that's ok. I dont know now to explain it. But I enjoyed mine a lot. It took me a while to warm up to looking straight down, but looking out was just heavenly.

Whether we stay at the Hyatt (Which might be kind of pricey actually) or maybe somewhere else? Somewhere that might have a free shuttle from the airport and then we could book a car/limo/van from hotel to port and back to airport after the cruise?!??!

I don't know...anyone? Thoughts/opinions etc.? If we stay in a cheaper place, and share the ride, we might really save some $....


Sue and discorsner started me thinking (worrying) about snow etc....plus, it might be nice to come in the day before and be able to get to the port earlier and have it be not rushed. I hate starting a vacation being all rushed and stressed!

I just lost my job! For those of you who knew, my company lost a hostile takeover battle last month and my boss was on the Board of Directors. They dismantled the board and she left the company (right before we left for vacation).
I was moved into the Legal Department to assist there as they needed help and I worked very closely with the lawyers anyway.

Although no one in the company knows what will happen, the new Chairman said he didn't want to change anything for NOW...(whatever that mean).

That all being said, one of the old chairman's secretaries as let go while I was in WDW and also his driver.

I am in a bit of shock as I thought I had at least until the end of the year when budgets were going to be adjusted etc. I was told when I was let go that I was moved into Legal as a favor to my old boss but that there is not any room or $ for me there...

In any case, I got 2 months severance, but the COBRA is $1100 a month!! With my type 1 diabetes, I need insurance, so now have to figure out what to do...

I will think positively about the cruise for now, I just won't be able to make any payments as I had planned to do. I might not post as much either unless I get a new job or a long term temp assignment or something...

I am now going to go hide in a room with no computer, phones, etc. Today is a total "bad news" day. You lost your job, a dear friend's father passed away, and my son was in an accident up at school. (Thank God he's fine. :angel: He was on his way home and was rear-ended.) He's probably not coming home after all :sad1: I just hope the rest of the day is filled with GOOD news!

This has been such a crazy day.. I worked all day and we were slammed and I don't know why... It was not a Halloween rush but when you go to the grocery store and the store manager himself is bagging you know its bad (and funny). I'm becoming a witch in my old age. I've worked there 20 years and though I've slowed down over the years I'm still a pretty damn fast checker (at least my numbers at the store say so.) We had some nasty people that didn't like the wait. Thankfully our store was way over staffed and it still wasn't enough, those people can bite me especially the regulars who visit more than once a day and know what our business is like.

I came home so exhausted and went to lay down with Jeff for a little bit. Ended up waking up a little while ago with Jeff getting ready for work. I thought it was morning but didn't know what day it was. Poor Emma ... I don't why she didn't wake me. I never fixed dinner and found her sleeping on the couch. :sad2:

According to the Passporter diagram, your room's verandah looks the same as all the others, but the room next you (which is the room we got, but on the other side) is smaller due to the shape of the front of the ship.

Caz, High Tea and Brunch are reservations that you can make at Palo's. Brunch is where they have a type of buffet of things to eat. And you can also order an entree as well. I dont sum it up well. I did a really crappy job with pictures but I think you can get the idea. There are also one picture of the high tea. That is where they give you a selection of amazing teas, then they bring you finger sandwiches and assorted desserts. It was good, but I liked the brunch better.

OK, let's just say that I am so glad we are not cruising this year. We always fly down on the Wednesday before. Tomorrow is Wednesday and we are expecting over a foot of snow where I live.

AAA rates aren't out yet, but I doubt that by the time they are out, that it will be much better than this rate. :goodvibes

I am hoping to make this cruise as simple as possible. I was trying to save money last time and rented a car. I thought it would give me more freedom. Well driving around wasnt a big deal. It isnt that complicated down there I just had more problems with the transportation from the cruise to the hotel! First we waited over an hour for Raddison to send a van to get us while we watched three go to the other cruises. so I canceled my reservation that night and went to WDW with a friend. Turning the car rental in there was horrible. I thought going to Shades of Green would be much less time consuming since it was on property. First, I couldnt find it and no one could give me good directions, then second, they didnt have anyone at that desk! THEN I had to take a taxi because I was running out of time to get to the airport! $60 for the taxi. This time, we are just going to let Disney do the driving. No cars, no tolls, no dropping things off, no waiting for people to pick you up, nothing! I am not sure if I can add on any days to go to WDW. I will have to take Friday off because I am one of those worry warts that is scared they will miss the boat due to airplane delays. We get back on Saturday so that might be one day we could spend at the parks and if we fly, half of Sunday. I would love to have more days than that. But then again, it would depend on where I am working. I am thinking I might be able to work my business full time. THAT would be a blessing! Then I could take a few more days off. Hmmmm decisions decisions. :scratchin:

I noticed that at the bottom of your post, it says Western MAGIC 2012....this is an Eastern cruise. I hope that is a typo and you are really on this cruise!

Thank you, yes a typo...we had been looking at doing Western but couldn't find back to back adjoining rooms on the Dream after a Western...We have been on both previously so it makes no difference, just a great chance to enjoy DCL and the friends we have made on board.
