This is not only our first Disney cruise, but it's our first cruise ever! We are so excited. A year seems like a long time but I'm sure it'll be here before we know it! My 11 year old daughter is an only child and I'm a little worried that she'll be bored just hanging out with me. She's pretty friendly and outgoing though so I'm hoping that she'll make some new friends. If anyone has any good tips or anything for us, please feel free to let me know. Thanks!!

So excited to finally have some company on this thread! I'm really looking forward to the cruise on the Dream, even more so after watching the christening today. So do you plan to do any extra days at Disney before or after? I think we're going to do two days after the cruise. Welcome to thread and looking forward to more DISers as well!

We are in the early planning stages of booking the cruise. It will be a large family gathering to celebrate the first Disney trip for our soon-to-be newborn!!
My wife is on the Dream as we speak with my parents and younger sister. They called me as soon as they boarded the ship and told me to start planning!! They said the ship is fantastic! Cant wait!!!

Joining!! We haven't confirmed our reservation yet, but hope to get that taken care of in the next few days. This is our first cruise of any sort. I am so excited!
DH - 36
Me - 40
DD - 4
We are planning on a 4-5 day WDW stay before the cruise as well. Unfortunately, reservations for WDW won't open up til sometime this summer so I will only be able to obsess over the cruise portion of our vacation for the next few months. There's so much to figure out and it's pretty overwhelming. I have no idea how the dining and show times work...early vs late?? Huh??
We are DL AP holders! DH and I have been to WDW back in 2005 before DD.

Hello, everyone! Just booked this cruise (doing a B2B with the 1/8 departure). I've been on one cruise so far (Disney Wonder last October), but this will technically be my 4th by the time it happens. #2 will be the westbound transatlantic this September (wow, 2 weeks of pampering! :yay:). Then the B2B will be #3 & #4. I think I'm addicted!

We're going too! This will be our first Disney cruise although we've cruised before on other lines. I am going to try and surprise my kids the week of the cruise. I am taking my mom on this cruise along with DD15 and twin DS 12. Husband says he can't get away in January, but we'll see as it gets closer. We are also booked at the BC for two days after the cruise. We are whisking away DD as soon as finals end. What a nice way to end a challenging week!! Plus it's my mom's 66th birthday and my DD sweet sixteen.

This will be my first cruise ever, and of course it has to be Disney. :cheer2:
We booked the 3 day cruise because we weren't sure about sea sickness... But since it is my 60th birthday (and all my BIG birthdays must be Disney), this seemed the logical choice. My sisters and friends will be with me, so it will be fun, I know!!!:dance3:
Would like to know how the dinners work. Do yo have to eat at the deisgnated restaurants on designated days? Can you eat at any restaurant?
LaLaDisney
08-08-2011, 02:27 AM
First of all ronniek: :welcome:
Disney does what is called rotational dining. Each night you are scheduled to eat in one of the three restaurants and your servers and waitstaff will rotate with you. When you get on board there is a place where you can check to see what order you will eat at each restaurant. There are other options as well-Palo and Remy are adult only choices. They do cost extra (as they are not included in your cruise fare) and you have to make reservations. I can't say anything about Remy, but DH and I did Palo and loved it when we were on the Wonder.
I know others on this thread have more cruising experience, and they can help you as well. Congratulations on your birthday trip!:yay:

thanks for the info. we are so excited.:yay: been to wdw many times but this is all new, and we are a bit nervous.
so we are appreciative of any tips or hints that we can get. we are staying over night in port canaveral pre-cruise, to get the lay of the land. renting a car from airport, and leaving it at the hotel and taking a shuttle to terminal. hope that is a smart thing to do. :goodvibes
so thanks again!

Wow - no new posts in over a month? I have visions of getting the ship all to ourselves...LOL I know that won't happen, of course, but it's a nice dream!
We are heading to DL next month for our final use of our APs. I tried to get DH to renew for next year, but the price went up $79 each! CRAZY!

We could probably deal with a $20-30 increase per person, but $80 a person?? That's just too much. We are also in Northern California and only can get down to DL about 4 times a year. If we were closer and got more use of APs, things might be different.

Add Jeff and Val to the list. Or at least I hope so. We got our quote and have to decide in the next couple of days but are fairly sure we are going to go.
This will be our 5th DCL cruise, the most recent was just a couple of weeks ago on the Dream - also a 3-nighter.

Hello all, MouseFan64 and myself will be joining you all on this cruise.
We just booked this cruise on the DVC SS Member cruise last week. There will actually be like 6 of us, four others from here on the board joining us.
If you newbies to cruising are interested. Check out my two blogs about cruising.
TheCruiseBlog (http://www.thecruiseblog.net) - I have some tips about cruising and things to ask for or look out for.
SS Member Cruise 2011 (http://www.hutsellhobbies.com/dvcMember) - This was the site we had going for the large amount of us Disers that were on the SS Member Cruise. There were close to 120 of us from the Disboards. :thumbsup2
If you have any questions about the dream or cruising in general please let me know. This will by Shawn and I's 7th Disney Cruise on our quest towards Platinum cruise status. :thumbsup2
Hope to get to meet everyone and maybe we can do a small DisMeet on the day we sail.

I would love to do a DIS Meet on sail day! How fun and I can't wait to meet some new people! I booked this cruise so long ago and I can't believe it's only a little over 3 months until we sail. I'm so excited! When I originally booked it was just my daughter and me but since then a friend of mine and her daughter of the same age booked as well! I have a feeling I won't see much of my daughter now that she has a friend to hang out with. So I'll be able to enjoy some adult time too (aside from the times when I make her hang out with mom)!

Happy to answer any questions if I can as well and looking forward to getting to know some of our fellow cruisers :goodvibes

I have a question but it's not very exciting. We've never cruised..ever! The ship looks huge so I was wondering if they give any sort or orientation or a tour for us newbies. I like to explore but it would also be nice to get a lay of the land so I don't have to wander around looking lost all the time! :lmao:

Another cute trick Disney dreamed up is when you get off the elevator to go to your room one side of the ship has a decorative fish out side you door and the other has a decorative seahorse. That part is easy.

We considered doing a longer cruise , but neither me nor my husband have ever been on a cruise before. I have migraine issues and I am a little concerned about motion sickness triggering a migraine. I figure a 3 day trip should give me enough of a taste to know if cruising is a good vacation option for us in the future.

Good option, our first trip was about 2008 did the ssmc 2008, only being
4 days I figured I would only be sick then 4 days ish, well hit the back end of a tropical storm we encounted 20 foot waves coming home and the boat just rocked and rocked and rocked, but didn't get sick only got tired of holding myself up, went to bed at midnight, and hubby went upstairs to
to film the pool becoming a wave pool... :rotfl:

We spent last week at DL getting our last use of our annual passes. We had a fabulous trip, of course, and I tried to get DH to re-new our passes, but no luck.
While taking DD trick or treating last night, I met a guy on the next street over who commented on DD's Rapunzel costume. We started chatting and it turns out he works on the Dream! He is obviously off right now, but returns in about a week. Unfortunately, he won't be on our cruise either as he is going to Germany to pick up the Fantasy.
Looking forward to the holidays. I have told all of our relatives that Katie wants Disney gift cards for Christmas so she can use them to shop at WDW and onboard the ship...same goes for me! :P

Very cool about your neighbor!! And he even gets to pick up the Fantasy in Germany! :cool1:
I have also told the family that they should get Disney gift cards for my DD for Christmas as well. My trip keeps getting bigger and bigger by adding on some days before and some days after so I'll need the extra gift cards by then! Tracerr00
11-01-2011, 04:15 PM
Not a clue! :lmao: They just had you enter the passport numbers for your party, enter the credit card info that you'll use on for your onboard account and pick a port arrival time. Then you print out a contract sheet or something that you sign and bring with you to the check in at port. I guess you do it all beforehand so it'll save you time at the port when you check in...I think! I was just excited to do it because it seems like like I'm one step closer to our cruise.

Hi all,
Just heard from my FL resident dad that he's thinking of taking DH, DS, DD, and I on this cruise because of the great FL resident rates available. This will be my Dad's first DCL cruise but the 5th for the rest of us. we just did a 7 day eastern in October. We booked that one 23 months before we sailed so it's safe to say I'm used to having more time to plan! :scared1: I'm usually up at midnight on the 90 day mark to make my Palo reservations, port arrival time, spa appointments etc.
Since I just found out about this trip but don't have a reservation yet I can't go online to check any details. I'd like to know if there are even any reservations still available for either Remys or Palo. I'd also like to know what the earliest port arrival time is. Anyone checked tis recently? I sure would appreciate the info.

I was only able to check reservations for a party of 2 in Palo and Remy and they seem to be pretty wide open for any of the three nights right now. The largest availability gap I see is night 3 at Remy - nothing between 6:50 - 7:40.

:lmao: I tried to start the C25K program a few weeks ago....yeah...didn't work so well. I should have known better than to wear my Sketchers Shape Ups when I was going to try to run. DUH!
Let's see, get to port, check in. Grab friends, get dispeeps picture taken in dispeeps tshirt, make up a name for them to announce as you board the ship, grab a drink meet my new dispeeps from this thread say 3:30 @ 687 bar, then sail away party, then hoping for a suite life on deck time warp. Ahhhhhhhhh
That sounds like an awesomesauce plan to me!

How cool is it that your neighbor is employed by DCL!!!!! Sorry you couldn't talk DH into renewing your annual passes. Maybe he'll start to go through Disney withdrawal and he'll change his mind. :thumbsup2
Hi everyone! Myself & DH (Steamboat Willy Nilly) are the other two of the six that Disrailfan mentioned. Looking forward to a quick get away in January. In my opinion, that's the most depressing month of the year. The holidays are over, it's cold, it's dark by the time I get off work. There are no holidays during that month. So, it will be nice to have a cruise to look forward to...even though it's only a 3 night cruise. I spent 7 nights on that ship and still didn't see it all. :sad2:

Is anyone doing a FE exchange? I was just reading about it and it sounded fun.
Hey there! We're practically neighbors! I'm in northwest Indiana.
To answer your question about the FE exchange...we won't be participating in one this time. It's just DH and I sailing and with it being just after the holidays, I just won't have the time to do anything for an FE exchange. I hope more people want to participate with you though...they are really fun and we've gotten some really great gifts, too!!

Well, I will admit I attempted jogging this week, and no, there were no axe wielding assassins after me :rotfl: I did a mile on Monday and a mile on Tuesday. On Wednesday I couldn't walk very well at all and have been limping about until yesterday :guilty: I guess I wound up aggravating an over 20 year old injury in my left foot :headache: Not giving up though. Once my foot is back to normal I'll try walking a couple of miles a day :thumbsup2

Don't over-do it!!! My aunt was pushing herself too hard at the gym trying to run further than she normally did. She ended up almost needing surgery and not quite sure if it was going to be permanent damage. I think she's ok now, but it was scary for a while!!!
I hope your foot gets back to normal soon.

Wow..don't know why I didn't find this thread sooner! It seemed like we planned this trip so long ago and all of a sudden it's right around the corner! :cool1: Especially since the holidays go by so quickly! We will stay at OKW the night before and day after the cruise and I see we have some fellow hoosiers going (we live in Schererville)! With my oldest dd (15) and youngest dd (9) we couldn't stay any longer tho its killing my kids to be so close to WDW and not go! My dh and I cruised on the "big red ship" many years ago. I ended up sea sick everyday so am hoping this trip willl be better and that my dds don't have my weak stomach! As DVC Members we know the ins and outs of WDW, we are basicallly newbies of the cruise world! I am now trying to get as much info as possible and am glad I found you all! :goodvibes

Maybe now that our cruise is getting closer we'll see some real interest. I've done the gift exchange a couple of times...and the kids really love coming back to the cabin and finding surprises...and they really love getting the list of cabins and going out and leaving our gifts!
I'm traveling with DD12 too! And, my DS 12...Disney husband is coming too...this is his first...and my 10th! Also, along is DSIL and her family DH, DS 11, DS8. And, another family with DD 12 and DS 10 (?). I'm doing my own gift/FairyGodmother thing with "my group"... (BUT, would certainly be intested in being part of something here) HOWEVER, if nothing works out....I ALWAYS bring extra goodies/pixie dust to leave at cabins...it's my way of adding magic to someone's trip...So, since you have a DD...I'd LOVE to share that magic with y'all...If you feel comfortable sharing cabin #.....

As far as dress code...you'll see a wide range....from casual to dressy. My feeling has always been...a cruise is a special...and we tend to dress up..everything from dressy casual to cocktail...
No there is no pirate menu on the 3 night. Also, I noticed on my online reservation yesterday that it shows Pirate Party as being on the Castaway Day...this is my 10th DCL cruise...and this will be a first...I believe it is a mistake...PP is usally the Nassau night..FYI

Hi all! It's getting closer to our sail date and I was hoping we could get an idea of how many people would like to participate in the FE Exchange! :) If you are interested in participating, please send me a PM. I'll keep a list and send the final spreadsheet to you as soon as we have an idea as to how many people would like to join in. Even if it's a small FE exchange, it will still be fun! I'm brand new to cruising and to the exchange so if anyone has any good tips or ideas I would love to hear them! I'm assuming I'll need to know the names, gender and ages of the participants as well as the cabin number. Anything else? I hope we have some interest! Only a month to go!!

Unfortunately, I think we are going to pass on the FE. It's our first cruise and I know we are going to be so slammed with trying to fit everything into such a short cruise that trying to do a FE will be just too much.
Has anyone gotten their cruise documents in the mail yet? We just got everything for the WDW portion of our trip so I imagine we should be getting the cruise stuff soon as well.
We were at DL/DCA at Halloween and got the cutest video of DD on the teacups...

Unfortunately we are in the same boat. Between all the holiday parties, taking down decorations, my daughter's birthday on January 10th and a softball tournament which requires hotel stay the weekend before we leave..I won't have time to prepare.
As far as Disney docs I received magical express docs yesterday for our trip to OKW the night before the cruise. Somehow they didn't have our return ME info. If you used a travel agent, sometimes it takes longer because Disney sends them your docs first, then the TA has to get them out to you so there will be a little delay. If you didn't use a TA...I'd give it until Monday and then follow up. D:)

Yes! I was planning on doing the tastings solo. My daughters friend and her mother will be traveling with us but the mother doesn't drink. So I knew that I would be attending the champagne tasting by myself. I will see you there! Is there more than one tasting?

Yay - I'm sure the tasting will be more fun if I "know" someone there! My guess is that there will be only 1 champagne tasting on such a short trip. I also considered the martini tasting, but I saw that one of the four drinks is a plain martini which doesn't appeal to me in the slightest...

I'll just have to take one for the team and go to the martini tasting - I am an equal opportunity drinker! Someone has to do it right? :lmao: Just click on the dining review link in my signature to see a photo of me so you'll know when I look like and can find me during the tasting if we don't meet up prior to that! Only 6 more days til we get to WDW! I'm starting to get my packing list together. DD got a new princess rolling luggage for Christmas and she already has started her own version of packing. My mom made her an Anastasia (step-sister) dress to wear at the Happily Ever After dinner at the Grand Floridian. She will probably want to wear it for a dinner on the ship as well. She is also bringing her Rapunzel costume to wear to dinner one night. I think I'l stick to my capri pants...LOL I was going to be ok with DH wearing jeans to dinner just because I didn't want him to have to pack special pants and shoes just for dinner, but I think I have changed my mind. He doesn't have any dark jeans and I don't want him to look sloppy. If we were just doing the cruise, it wouldn't be an issue packing the extra clothes, but doing WDW as well is going to make things harder. I don"t want to pay a bunch of extra baggage fees on the airplane!

I know - I can't believe that it's only a little over a week until the cruise! We are leaving next Tuesday evening and doing Universal the day before the cruise and then doing WDW afterwards. I bet your daughter loves the new dress, it sounds so cute! I don't want to pay for an extra bag so we're just doing carry ons. However that might change on the way back depending on how many souvenirs we come back with!;)

Hi everybody! My DD (11) & I will be joining you! It's going to be a mom and DD cruise only, as hubby has to stay with our pup.
Hubby surprised us with the cruise on Christmas Eve-so we haven't had nearly enough time to obsess as some of you...although we've been completely immersed in DCL info since we found out. Is it just me or does everything non-Disney fall to the wayside once you know you're going to see Mickey?!!
We would love to join the Fishy Exchange, we think, but we aren't sure how to go about that or exactly what it entails. Or how to make a Fishy Thingy Bag!
Just so excited there will be other kids her age-they'll be at Edge the whole time unless we moms band together and make them at least eat dinner with us!:rotfl2:

When I booked the cruise it was just my DD12 and me but now a friend of mine and her DD12 are coming as well. Unfortunately the girls don't really hang out together anymore but I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm sure our DDs will meet in the Edge though because I think she plans to spend some time there. And yes, our one rule is that my DD must meet me for dinner every night! :thumbsup2
If you get lonely when your DD is off having fun you could always come to a martini tasting with us! ;)

Boy, you and I sound a lot alike! I've added Castaway Cay, Bahamas as well as Cape Canaveral, Florida to my weather.com routine. Is it just the two of you? My husband is staying back to work, so my mom is coming with for the first time ever to help keep an eye on the kids.
I didn't think that Castaway Cay would even be an option for weather.com!! Thanks for the tip because now I'll add that as well! I am a little nervous now because we leave on Tuesday and I now see some snow in the forecast for Wednesday in Minneapolis. Uh oh, I hope it doesn't shift at all to the day before. Are you getting crazy non-winter weather in Chicago too? It's crazy that we have no snow at this time of the year!
My DD12 and I are going and we have our own room and then a friend of mine and her DD12 also booked shortly after we did. The girls aren't the best of friends but I think they'll be ok for three days! Even if they don't hang out together, my DD is pretty social and will have no problem meeting new people.

I do not homeschool. But our school district takes several odd days off during the year to save money or something and they are called release days (??). So they have a release day on Friday and also they day off for MLK day on Monday so it worked out perfectly so she won't have to miss much at all!
At one point people here were scheduling a DIS meet on the first day but I don't know if it's still going on or not. Not too much activity here lately! I hope it is still happening so some of us can meet each other.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say that it has been so CRAZY that I haven't been able to stop by and post. We leave on Thursday for WDW!!:woohoo: then off to the cruise.
We surprised the kids today. We went to DLR and filmed them in front of the castle today reading a book that ended with "We're going to Walt Disney World...and we're leaving on Thursday!" They were so excited! They still don't know about the cruise. We're keeping that a secret until we arrive at Cape Canaveral. They will probably think we are headed to the airport and home, but then we board the ship.:cool1: I can't wait!! Have a great cruise, everyone!!

Add me to the weather watchers. I'm a bit nervous already because as of right now, thunder storms are predicted on our Nassau day. That's not a big deal to me as I am not planning on leaving the ship at all that day. It does concern me that the weather will cancel our Castaway Cay day as well. I know there's nothing I can do about it, but I will be so sad if that happens.

I'm getting nervous now too! I see the storms that are predicted but also rain on our Castaway Cay day. That will be sad if it rains the entire three days of the cruise. :guilty: But I guess we can't control the weather and we'll make the best of it. But I'll be very bummed.

I am guessing that at least one if not both of my guys will be at least partially in the kid's club. We are leaving after my daughter's last high school final and staying on Wed. night at the airport. I got us the 11 am boarding so hopefully they can zoom onto the aquaduck on Thursday. Hi everyone!!:wave2:
I don't know if one is already organized so I will ask. Would anyone like to do a meet on the ship? Usually we do this around 3 in the back section, by the bars, on sail-away day. Any takers? By the way, I'm Luckymomoftwo's husband. There are 6 of us cruising together Thursday and we are all experienced Disney cruisers with 19 cruises between us!!:woohoo:.:thumbsup2 Showing up would be a great time to pick each others brains for info and to get to know one another!
So I say let's meet at District Lounge or 687 @ 3:00 on Thursday unless there is something else planned or you guys would rather not.
Look forward to meeting everyone! These are great places to meet people that may turn into life long friendships!:thumbsup2

CC was fairly comfortable. We ventured out to Serenity Bay, only to get right back on the tram because the wind was fairly strong off the water making it too cool for us. Pelican Point was just fine though.
There weren't many people in the water, but not everybody stayed out.

Castaway Cay was nice! When the sun was behind the clouds I could put my sweatshirt on because it was a bit chilly and then when the sun came out I'd take my sweatshirt back off because I'd get warm! I did this over and over. We rented bikes and rode on the bike paths and I stopped at Serenity Bay which was pretty windy. We ran into Jack Sparrow there which was fun! Ihad a nice time there and ended up going back to the ship around 4 pm.

Had an awesome time! Sorry that we never got to meet up with anyone. We didn't board until after 2:00 by the time we registered, etc. We did make it to the DVC event that afternoon before the safety drill. But the kids never met any others their ages. My 15 year old went to her club a couple times but came back right away and my 9 year old spent about an hour or two total. They both really enjoyed the cruise but I had hoped they would have enjoyed the clubs more. We loved the food and Castaway Cay. If I never went back to Nassau that would be ok. Some guy came up to us there and ask if he could marry one of our daughters! Lol! Pretty creepy. We liked the shows too and the staff couldn't have been nicer. At dinner we ended up at a private table even though the first night it appeared we were to have 4 others join us.
We are already talking about cruising again. Probably for a longer time though I think 5 days would be the longest. I can't imagine eating like that for more than 5 days!!!:rotfl2:
I also was sadden when my string of Dis green Mickeys were stolen from my fishhook. I didn't even think someone would take it after having read how people personalize their doors as such. I had laminated a bunch of them and strung them with fishing line. We normally hang it with a suction cup from a window in our resort. Guess I will need to go back to Home Depot!

Glad to hear you had a good time! We were at the DVC meet, too. When your name got called I tried to get your attention to let you know we were your Indiana neighbors, but the meeting was just too fast paced and I meant to try to meet you afterwards, but I lost where your family was.
I'm so sorry that your string of Mickey heads got snatched. Some people just don't know how to keep their hands off of other people's belongings. I had a magnet get stolen off of my door....luckily it was replaced....it was one of the "Welcome Home" magnets from DVC. They told me I certainly wasn't the first to come and ask for a new magnet. It's such a shame...I wish everyone had the same respect for everyone else's property.

Ha - I thought Castaway Cay was COLD. I went into the water up to my hips, but that was it. DD swam a little, but we ate lunch and got back on the ship. It was fabulous to ride the Aquaduck with NO WAIT!
Overall we had a fabulous time. We did attend the DVC sales pitch on Friday, but didn't buy. We loved the food and pools and pretty much everything. DD would have stayed in the kids' club 24 hours a day if we would have let her. SHe cried a bit whenever we pulled her out for a meal. I let her stay in the club for dinner on Saturday night. DH was up on Deck 11 watching the 49er game that night so I went to dinner by myself...and our tablemates so I wasn't too lonely.
AS I stated earlier, we booked our next cruise onboard. We are going on the Eastern Caribbean trip on the Fantasy in May of 2013!
