We're in St.Thomas (a U.S. Territory) on the 4th, so let's hope for something. Maybe special patriotic fireworks that night???
I posted a ? about this on the main forum, hopefully some experienced cruisers might know.
This will be our 5th cruise. Next year is Alaska!! We've done the Eastern 3 times & loved it so much we're going to do it again.

Ok, I did a quick forum search & found a variety of 4th experiences:
One poster said they had a champage toast w/ the date engraved & got to keep the glasses, but nothing else.
One poster said NOTHING. Another poster said they were told the boat wasn't far enough from land to do fireworks, but had a balloon drop in the atrium w/ characters dressed for the occasion.
Let's hope for something similar to this:
"Yes, we sailed on the 4th of July one year. They set the pirate party for the same night so they could do the fireworks on July 4th. We were able to keep a copy of the menu from the restaurant we ate at that night. On the back was Mickey holding the American flag, fireworks behind and the Disney Cruise Line banner with another banner saying 4th of July. I also seem to remember parts of the ship decorated for the occasion. Otherwise, pretty normal."

We've been on 3, 4 night sailings on the wonder. Last cruise was March 2010 and we got engaged on that sailing:banana:
We love DCL so much and knew that we wanted to spend out honeymoon with them, as we've always wanted to do both western and eastern and figured this is the only time right now that we can splurge and do a B2B! So we are very excited...

OOOOH, you've done the Eastern 3 times!!! Hope you don't mind me asking lots of questions!!! Just looking at some of the excursions has my mind whirring with questions. But there's enough time for that!
We've done 2 cruises. First was a 3 night that we couldn't dock at CC. So we made up for it on the next one by doing a double dip Western cruise. LOVED CC so much!!!
this cruise is going to be very special for us. About a month ago, I ended up in the hospital with blood clots in the lungs and a clot in my arm that required emergency surgery. I ended up in the ICU on the ventilator and almost died. This is going to be a celebration cruise for us. So glad I am still here!!
BUT, I am not out of the woods yet, I have a hole in my heart that we are going to close in January. Originally DH said not to schedule the cruise till after the procedure, but I managed to convince him that financially it would be best because prices will only continue to go up.
I hope you all will help me with something else...:rolleyes1 I have alot of weight to loose, and starting tomorrow I am going to get started and get this weight off once and for all. The health scare and cruise are big incentives for me. Help keep me on track!

We'll be on the cruise with you all. Myself, DH, DD (6), DS (3) and my MIL and FIL as well. This will be our first Disney cruise, and in fact, first cruise ever. We are so excited as this has been in the works for over 2 years. We were also wondering about the 4th and if they would do anything special. Either way, can't wait.
We will be combining this with A WDW trip, but not sure if it will be before or after the cruise. Since we live in CA, we are trying to do it all. :)

I am hoping that we (DH and DS (13 then)) will be on this cruise. My DH isn't ready to begin planning for another cruise but my DS and I are putting our pennies in our piggy banks to save up. And, I am always ready to plan a cruise as that is half the fun of the vacation. Anyway, I see a few of you have already done the Eastern Caribbean and I am trying to decide if we should get an Oceanview or a balcony room. We went to Alaska before and loved the balcony because there was so much to see. When we did our four day Disney trip we only stepped on the balcony when we pulled into port. Any thoughts. That would save us a lot of money but if it is worth it then we would defintely like to have a balcony. We will be celebrating on 17th Wedding anniversary on the 1st of July so I loved the idea of this cruise as it was traveling both on our anniversary and on the 4th of July.
DVC Mary if we go our DSs should be in the club together.

I tried to talk DF into doing a B2B on the Dream, and since were saving for the wedding (as DF won't do anything on credit cards and want to have the wedding paid off before we get married) it probably won't happen unless we get lucky and the FL resident rates are just too good to pass up:thumbsup2
What does that mean?? The carnival (a real carnival right??) will also have fireworks?? Thanks lol

Welcome lbcrosby! More boys to hang out w/!!! Yeah! Check out kreedham who has boys 11 & 13 too. We've done 2 Easterns before & had oceanviews b/c we just don't spend much time in the room. We've stayed on deck 5, so if I need a quick fix of fresh air I can duck down to deck 4 for air, a walk, or a place to curl up w/ a good book--when everyone else is sleeping & I'm still wide awake. :goodvibes I'd rather spend the money on excursions or shopping. Sccrmnky2005, since you started the thread do you mind making a list of all of the cruisers? It would be great to see the user name, and how many people are sailing with and the kids and ages if given. If you don't want to, I can do it too, I have the second post so it would be near the top.
I just saw a special on the Oasis of the Seas. It was so cool to watch the turnaround day events. I did feel so bad for the family that couldn't go because of their documentation not being right. I can't even imagine! And there was a family that missed the ship leaving St. Maarten and had to fly back, meet the ship and try to get their luggage. They had over $40,000 of jewelry left in the stateroom!:scared1: Here's to hoping that nobody is left behind on our cruise!

Thank you Mary! I am feeling better. ANd I will certainly be asking you lots of questions! The first one I have is in St. Maarten on the beaches, are there alot of topless girls? I imagine my teenage son would love it;), but I think I would not like it too much!

Sccrmnky2005 - I sent a request to add the Facebook group.
So, we are in 9584 and 9586 on Deck 9 - mid ship location. They are veranda rooms which I am both happy and sad about. With smaller kids, it will be nice to have somewhere to go when they are napping. However, I have that nagging worry about my son climbing up to see and falling overboard. (That will continue to wake me in the middle of the night  until this cruise is over. I guess it adds to the anticipation. :rotfl2:)
BTW - a little bit about myself. I suffer from parenthasisitis (using parenthases too much) and I tend to use lots of smileys. Just some fair warning. :rotfl: I am not quite 40 (for the moment - that all changes in December), and my DH is a month older. His birthday is actually on Thanksgiving this year. My DD(4) is a January baby and my DS(1) was born in December as well. Our birthday celebrations are done in less than 6 weeks which makes for a hectic holiday season. My MIL and FIL will be joining us for the cruise in an ajoining cabin. We have been planning this for 2 years, postponed it once, but I am so excited to finally be going (in another year and a half, of course).

Well I decided to go ahead and book the balcony. When we checked the various threads it seemed to go back and forth regarding whether to get a balcony or not. I decided it came down to preference. My Aunt is a travel agent so she is booking the trip for us. We will be staying on Deck 6. I get motion sickness really easy so I always like the middle/middle of the ship. I don't know the exact cabin yet but I think we will be three floors below you DisneyMom70. Be cautious but don't worry about him climbing. If the balconys are the same as the other ships he would have to be a frog to climb it as they are glass. Keep the chairs away from the edge and you should be fine. If I recall the chairs are heavy enough that when they are moved they make a lot of noise so it is obvious if they are being moved by a small person. Our son was seven the last time we went and the railing came up to his shoulders.
Hi Kreedham glad there will be some more 13 year old boys on board. (No DVC Mary we are not in the same family.) I hope at that age the boys still enjoy it and not that they are to grown up for the magic of Disney. I don't think I will ever outgrow Disney.
So DVC Mary are you doing a Disney Alaskan cruise? We did a Princess one in 2005 and loved Alaska. If you go with the mindset that it is going to rain while you are there then you will be fine. That way if it does or doesn't you will still enjoy the trip. It rained a lot when we were there but the sun came out at the right times. We were celebrating our 10th Anniversary on July 1st when we landed in Victoria. In Canada that is a national holiday so it was really cool that everyone was having a big party for our anniversary.
I love planning trips. :cool1:

We started on the Disney cruises when the boys were 5 and 7 (I think) and they have a great time. My wife tries to change it up so it's a little different as our next 3 are Inaugural Dream, Dream again in the summer then Fantasy in 2012. We were doing Alaska in 2011 but DW decided since we're on MV Dream, she opted to go again. We're supposed to do Med 3 years ago but bought a house instead. Done cruise out of LA twice and Baltic this past June. I guess Med and Alaska remain in our future. Worried about the older 1 after 13 though. The Baltic cruise was the 1st he hooked up with a new pal. He appears to now prefer that to hanging with mom and dad!

It will be myself - I'll be 37 at the time of the cruise, DH (37), DS1(9.5), DS2 (7), DD (7), as well as my parents, who will be in their early/mid 60s.
We have staterooms, but may be changing, so we'll leave that blank for now.
It will be my third Disney Cruise, and the 2nd for everyone else in my party, though my parents are experienced cruisers on other lines.

I too doubt that we would ever go on that cruise, but I LOVED watching all the details. On that note Samantha Brown was on hand for the Dream float out. Wouldn't that be great if they did another travel channel special on the new ships? That would be so exciting.

We had a bit of rolling, especially the last night (when I, ahem, rolled out of bed :upsidedow ) but nothing awful. I do have to share, though, that after 5 minutes on board, DS1 said, "So, Mom, when we're on our NEXT Disney cruise, can we............" LOL! We had an excellent time. The kids are already planning their next adventures; the adults are already dreaming of Konk Coolers :woohoo:
Ok - our staterooms are official - 7000, 7002, and 7004.
We may be adding a few more groups to our party - we have several invitations out right now. We'll see.

Hope everyone is doing good and hanging in there counting down to this cruise! I know we are!! But we are planning a wedding in between so it helps passing time a little better!
We just booked a last minute cruise on the Disney Dream, we are on the Jan21-23rd preview sailing benefitting the boys and girls club of central florida! I'M SOOOOO EXCITED! As I was prepared not to cruise in 2011 because of our B2B that is booked in 2012, but when this oppertunity came up we didn't let it pass. I will definitly take pictures as will be doing a TR and will post once I get back and get it started! only 42 days until we set sail on the Disney Dream!!
What a great opportunity! Can't wait to see the pics. Hope it is warm enough to do the aquaduck. I can't wait to read your trip report.
We just got back yesterday from our trip to WDW. We took my parents and had a great time. It is so sad to be home in the cold, snow and windchill advisory conditions. Just thinking that we swam a few days ago makes me sad we are home. We won't be going back to WDW now for a while. Sad about that too. BUT in 2012 we are going to go to universal and I would like to also go to Discovery cove in addition to our cruise. So that is something to look forward to!

Oh, I wanted to ask you guys your opinion. I will probably post this question on the regular DCL forum as well.
We are going to do universal and hopefully Discovery Cove (and maybe a day at WDW, not sure on that) in addition to our 7 day cruise, what order would you do them?
part of me wants to do the cruise last, so we can relax and then come home Sat. night with one day to recoup before going back to work. Then the other part of me wants to do the cruise first because I know I will be so sad when that is over it might be fun to look forward to doing something else.

In my Opinion I would do it before the cruise, even if it's Discovery cove or WDW. Because the theme parks are hustle and bustle and the cruise is relaxing, I would much rather go home from a relaxing cruise. Just my opinion. Good luck!:goodvibes
We will actually be in WDW about four five days before our wedding on June 18, 2012, doing all the activities and parks leading up to our wedding. Then we will head back to our house in Orlando (only 30 mintues from the mouse) on the 19th, and relax with our dogs before we head out to the Port on Saturday morning for the first leg of our cruise on the 23rd!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!:cool1:

Hi everyone! We will be right there with you on 6/30/12!
This will be DH and my 3rd cruise and DD's (10 at sailing) 2nd. We were originally booked on Dream for 6/26 but when this trip became available we jumped on it! I CAN'T WAIT! We just got back from WDW for Thanksgiving and will have way to long of a wait for this trip.
As far as fireworks go, for our first cruise, we were docked in the Bahamas for the 4th and yes, the Magic did have fireworks. All the other cruise ships were very jealous and all of their passangers were up on deck to watch the "Magic" of Disney!! Hopefully they will do the same for this trip!
Anxious to hear all about the other people who will be on the trip with us!

:welcome: More cruisers!!! Hurray! We too got back from WDW, we were there at the beginning of December. very crowded toward the end, but still great. We aren't going to Disney next year either:sad1:,, instead we are going to go to the grand canyon and maybe up to Mackinaw Island. BUT when we go in 2012 we are going to do an extravaganza! Universal for certain, hoping for Discovery cove and maybe a couple days at WDW. Hard to tell, alot will depend on $$$ and how much time DH can get off.
thanks for the info about the fireworks. Sure hope we get some extra magic that day!

I saw the launching of the Disney Dream and it made me so excited about our trip. Now I want this year to fly by. I want this trip to be a surprise for our son but I am not sure if I can keep it a secret or not. We were talking about the Dream and Fantasy and he asked me which one was a longer cruise. When I told him the Fantasy he said can we take a cruise next year. I just walked away. He will be so excited. Come on 2012.

Just booked today for myself and daughter (23). I havent told her because she graduates from college next December so Im planning on surprising her. Im also worried she finds a job that prevents her from going- if that should happen I plan to take my mother.
This will be our 4th cruise but first time on the Eastern route. Wanted to do something different and liked the fact that its the 4th of July. I reserved a cabin on the 10th deck but now rethinking it based on pictures coming from the Dream. But add me to the list! Carolyn

We jsut got back yesterday from the MV of the Dream and we had a great time. We weren't doing the MV of the Fantasy because it didn't fall in line with the kids spring break. Since they moved it up a week it worked out. So my wife is planning on changing this res to the MV.
But I wouldn't be surprised if she held onto this one!
Anyhow if we don't make it have fun without us. And to Amanda and Milton I hope your wedding is wonderful! I know it will be!
HELLO DISers! We will be on this ship in 2012 and can't wait. It will be myself, DH, DD(17), DD(14). This will be our 5th Disney cruise. We love the Disney cruises and can't wait to sail on the new ship. We will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary as well as my daughters high school graduation:cool1:! This may be the last big vacation we will be able to do until my DD's graduate college. Can't wait to meet everyone online and on ship.

I just rescheduled our cruise to the Fantasy June 30th eastern. I was booked on the Dream, but I could not shake the feeling of wanting 7 days not 5. Plus, I am not a big fan of Nassau.
I did give up two days at Castaway Cay--that hurt a little.
Still, I think it will be great. My first cruise was the Magic July 4th week. Champagne and special glasses, fireworks out of St. Thomas was great. I think on this cruise we will be at sea for the 4th.
Oh me, my wife (her first Disney Cruise) and DS (15), and DD (13).

We are booked on this cruise also! It will be our 2nd Disney Cruise, 1st was a Western cruise on the Magic in 2004. Our sailing party will be me, DH, and ages at sailing time, DS18, DS15 and DD15. I gave the kids a choice of Royal Carribean and Disney and they chose Disney! We will be celebrating DS18 birthday and high school graduation. We are trying to get SIL and BIL and their two kids to join us also.:hippie:

My brother did WDW after his cruise and he said he would rather not do it that way again. I'd suggest a few days at WDW or at the beach followed by the Cruise-especially a 7 day Cruise like the Fantasy. Save the best for last!

Hi All -
I've booked this cruise as a back-to-back w/the 6/23 Western - although DH doesn't know yet. However, after 15 days on the Magic thru the Panama Canal - 7 days just seems too short!!! I'm not sure if he'll agree to WDW pre the 6/23 and this one also. I'll just wait to tell him!!!
I've been on the Western but not the Eastern so my fingers are crossed that he'll agree!!! It will just be the 2 of us - DD and her family head home after the 6/23 - maybe I should suggest that this will be a 2nd honeymoon for DH & I as we'll be celebrating our 30th anniversary!!
I'll post when I get a chance - but I'm really busy.

WELCOME to all the new cruisers!!!!!
I just wanted to get this posted out there in case it affects any of you...
there was a post on the boards about the new "addition" to the DREAM that obstructs some of the views of the verandahs. If it is no big deal to you then don't worry, but if the FANTASY is built the same way, which most are assuming, then some verandahs might have a small obstruction. We ended up switching rooms to avoid this.
Here is the thread...

DCLaholic-mom,
Welcome! We have kids that are the same age and I have a son who is graduating in June 2012 and will turn 18 five days before the cruise. Do you think your son will participate in the teen club? From what I understand, teens who have not started college yet can participate.

Hi! I do not know what he is going to do. I am reading different stories everywhere. One says that they can do the teen club, others say no. Either way, we can get them together so they can meet and maybe hang out with each other. I will let my son know and see what he says. Mine is a little shy.
This is all going to be so much fun!!!

Just got off the Magic (western Carribean) yesterday and can't wait for our
2nd Disney cruise on the Fantasy:cool1:
It will be me, DH, DS (10) and DS (8) on this one. It could get a little crowded at the pools on the Magic so I am a little worried about the Fantasy since there will be more people. Only disapponting thing that happened was we had to make a stop by Kew West on our way to CC because there was a medical emergency. We did not get to CC until after 12:00 and had to leave before 6. We will have to start a FE list as it gets closer to cruise time. My kids LOVED getting little surprises in theirs every day.

It will be me, DH, DS(12), DD(9). In room #9672. It will be our 5th Disney cruise.
We spoke to several cast members on the DREAM who will be applying to transfer to the Fantasy.....sounds like they are enjoying working on the new ship but want to be on longer itinerary.

Welcome, Pyrdum. It looks like there will be several kids in the 10 - 13 age group that are on this thread so that will be fun. We won't be telling our DS until his birthday next year. His birthday is March 29th. This will be our 2nd Disney Cruise and our son loved the last one we took in 2007 so I am sure that next year's birthday will be a lot of fun. We figured if we told him then he would still be able to participate in all the planning of the excursions.

I am willing to help plan whatever, but would prefer not to be in charge completely as I have never done FE's before. :confused3 (I have a feeling that Disney will be a main theme in my classroom next year!!)
Do you think that they will be keeping the Pirates night on the Fantasy? I notice that there are not going to be any 7 night cruises until the Fantasy comes. I woner if they are planning anything different? Last time I was on the Magic was in 2004 and the pirates thing was not happening yet.
I also wonder why there is not a thread for the July 7th sailing? Could that mean something? Could that one have been cancelled? I hope not because I am on that one also.

I can get the FE list started if no one else wants to. It is a little early and I know more people will be joining but it wouldnt hurt to start planning. I have a feeling this cruise sold a little more because I have also noticed an increase in price. I went to add another room and it was quite a bit more than when I originally booked in December.

OK Carlnne - We can do this. Can't be any different than being on a committee at school right? As long as everyone works together we can do this. (Yes, I am trying to tal myself into it). Let's at least get a list going and then if someone wants to take over from there, especially a more experienced person, then they can have it.
I think I saw a web site someone made for one of the repo cruises that had FE list in it. I will research that and ge back wih everyone. I agree that we are a way out, but I have to work on mine this summer because once school starts again in August, I will not have time to do the "fun stuff" for a while. OK. I found this from the Dream May 12, 2011 cruise thread and made some changes to fit our dates, etc.. I hope they do not mind I borrowed, but the explanation is simple. Thank you to the May 12 Dream cruisers. :woohoo:
Ok. Here are the rules and regulations (I just wanted to say that, lol) for our FE! :teacher:
The cut off to sign up will be May 30, 2012. This will give everyone enough time (4 weeks or so) to plan/buy/make/pack the gifts they will be bringing.
You decide how you want to give. Either each cabin gives to each person (kid and adult gifts) or you can give a cabin gift. Your family can decide! Each person can deliver the goodies when they want. Try not to get caught!! Part of the fun is being surprised by magical goodies in the FE, lol!
If you are interested, please email me your names (everyone in your cabin), ages of kids (gender of kids if unisex name), email address, and cabin number. Make sure to include any birthdays, anniversaries, and food allergies.
E-mail to retykemom@att.net. :surfweb: I do not mind using my email address because I do not kno how to PM. Please place Disney Cruise FE as your title so I know to open the email. So, I will go first!!!
Let's have a great cruise!!!! This is going to be so much fun!! I cannot wait.

Hey fellow cruisers. I haven't been on the boards lately and haven't posted here except the first time months ago. Since the weather is getting warmer I am starting to think about the cruise (I know it is a year off but I can dream :) My only concern is that I have two DD's 13 and 16, and I have noticed that there are a lot of teenage boys on this trip . I am hoping we get more families with girls in them to even things out. I also hope they let my DD16 (who will be 17 at cruise time) into the teen club. We have gone online and looked at the new layout and it looks really neat. My DD13 is looking forward to her first time in the teen club. We will also be doing the FE's. I have done it for the past 3 cruises and it was great. My kids love looking for the gifts when we come back to our room. I usually decorate our door with a ton of picture magnets. When I get home I will find a picture and post our last door here. I like coming up with new things to put on the door. We get great comments and it makes it easier to find our door when we are coming back to our room. Maybe we should plan someplace to meet on the boat so we can put faces with our DisBoard names? Well, have to go back to work. Will make sure I check the boards more often.

Hi Susan!! My DD will be 16 while on the cruise. Your 17 will be able to be in the teen club. It is when they turn or are already 18 that they move up to the college group.
Would you like me to add you to our FE list? Let me know. I just need Names/Ages/Gender, Email address, Cabin #, celebrations, and food allergies. You can email me at retykemom@att.net with the information.

I kept looking at everyone's counters and I was getting jealous that their cruises were so close and ours was far away. I figured that people were taking multiple cruises. Then I looking at mine and it is the same time. Wow, it is getting close. Yes, mind you it is still over a year away but when you consider we got our reservations in the winter it seems like it is getting close.:cool1:
I am sure there will be plenty of little kids to offset all the teenagers we are bringing along. Perhaps the people with young kids have not located this awesome board yet.

I have been prowling all the FE threads for about a year for ideas. I am glad I am not the only one excited about this aspect of the cruise. I was able to sell it to my MIL as well, so I will be emailing to add them to the list. I told her there was plenty of time to plan, and she replied that didn't matter, she will most likely be getting it all together the night before we leave.
I have 2 little ones (3 and 6 at cruise time), so I am also hoping for a few more munchkins to join up. I think the FE will just thrill them to pieces. In fact, it may be hard for them after the cruise. We will be at WDW for 8 days when the cruise is over, and they may be looking for little surprises there as well.

I just now am getting caught back up on DIS after a crazy school year. Honestly - if my kids ever say "I'm done!" I might just have to do a happy dance  Traveling hockey and competitive gymnastics is going to be enough to push me over the edge.
BUT! We made it through another year, and my WDW trip is 11 days away, so, I'm revived and ready to go!
Add us to the FE list, please. We'll have 2 adults, 3 kids (boys 7 and almost 10, girl 7). I may be able to get my parents interested, but I doubt it. They're getting a little fuddy duddy in their advancing years.
I already have my idea, too!
Can we add the FE list to the first post, so it's in a centralized location?
Happy day, all!

Hi! So far I am keeping the information on a powerpoint chart. I figure once we hit the year marker I would send an updated list out once a month until we get closer.
I will be glad to add you to the list. I just need Names/Ages/Gender, Email address, Cabin #, celebrations, and food allergies. You can email me at retykemom@att.net with the information.

I am from Victorville (North of San Bernadino on the other side of the mountains). The desert. All brown. You have driven through it if you have been to Las Vegas.
I grew up at Disneyland. I have yet to go to WDW. I kinda skip that and go straight for the cruise.

I think we will be doing a cruise meet sometime, but I have not heard anything in a while. I am just helping with the FE's.
Yes, you can count me in for the FE as we have always loved doing it. I will email you the details when I can find the docs that give me our cabin number :rotfl: I know it is around here somewhere.

I have been through Victorville several times. How long have you been in LA? That is quite a move.
Have you done a cruise before? I figured, since we were going all the way to FL for the cruise, we might as well take advantage of it, and do it all. It will be interesting to see the differences, and I'm sure it will take some getting used to all the walking (and transportation).

We were young and CA. is not the cheapest place to live. My ex's family is here which is why we came here. I have no family here, go figure. I stay because I love my job so much. My dad retired at George AFB when it was still open so I lived there most of my life give or take some time in Riverside. I was 25? when we moved here. I lived my summers there at the beach (usually around the Long Beach area). Grew up with Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, and Magic Mountain. There are a lot of things from there I miss (Like In-n-Out Burger and Del Taco), but otherwize it is livable here. Nice to hear from someone from my neck of the woods.

Hi there everyone. My name is Jennifer and me and my husband just booked this cruise while we were on the inaugural Alaskan Cruise. If all goes as planned this will be mine and Chris's 11th Cruise. (We are supposed to go on the Dream for a Holiday cruise on Dec 4th of this year) I just saw all the new info that was released today about the Fantasy and I am sooo excited to get onboard. It is truly going to be an amazing ship. I would be interested in the FE exchange as well.

Just read that BBB will be on the Fantasy! And that they'll transform it into Pirate's League for Pirate night.
Anyone care to wager how hard THOSE appts are going to be to get?!?! :rotfl:

I was surprised by Minnie. After the pattern of classic - new - classic (Mickey, Ariel, Donald), I was prepared for new again. I'd heard a rumor of the Aladdin show, so secretly, I was hoping for Genie.
But then again, I'm a big Genie fan. (I joke that Mom's are just like Genie - someone rubs our lamp, and it's "Poof! What do you need? Poof! What do you need?" all.day.long.)
I am glad to see Minnie, though. I was surprised more by Ariel than by Minnie - she and Mickey should have been the first two, IMO!

Ooh! I had not thought about that. I guess I have been to caught up with the fact there is news starting to come out about the ship. Back to the research on the Fantasy. There must be more out there than we have heard. The one article says that about a dozen things were revealed, and it could be that I am just not feeling good, but I did NOT count a dozen. I do LOVE the colors of the Atrium that they have in the artist rendurings.

If you count the info about each nightclub in Europa as a separate piece of news, it comes close:
Let me pull up the Dis article and see what I find:
1. Animator's Palate - Animation Magic
2. Animator's Palate - Undersea Magic
3. Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular
4. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
5. Transformation from BBB to Pirate's League
6. Europa District
7. La Piazza
8. Skyline
9. O'Gill's Pub
10. Ooh La La
11. The Tube
12. Mme Minnie Mouse and her statue
So - 12 things - now - not really 12 things - like you said - but the way a press release would count them, 12 things. Dastardly marketing techniques! I want 12 UNIQUE things! New things! Fun things!!! :headache:

I am excited that they will have things unique to the Fantasy. I thought it would be a duplicate to the Dream so I am thrilled with these announcements. I love the pictures of the different rooms. I wish they would have had that Pirates League when we took our first Disney Cruise trip as I am sure my then eight year old would have enjoyed it a lot more than my soon to be 13 year old. You travelers with little girls are going to have a hard time not spending money in that little room. Every little girl wants to be a princess (sometimes even we big girls as well).princess:

Just read the updates, so here are my thoughts:
If the Aladdin show is anything like the one here at CA, it will be awesome.
I actually like the idea of Minnie.
I am hoping we will get a little bit of time to check out Europa between the kids clubs and Nana and Grampa babysitting.
We have been successful in avoiding BBB here at DL, and I was hoping not to do it at WDW. Now it has followed me onto the cruise. :scared1: I could go for the pirates theme though.
I agree with IrenicMom..."Anyone care to wager how hard THOSE appts are going to be to get?!?! "
Overall, the articles are just feeding my Disaddiction. I can't wait!!:thumbsup2

Hello everybody! Yesterday we had to change our original sail dates & now it looks like we will be joining you for this awesome cruise. It will be me (Jessica), my sister and my son (6 years old at the sailing date) in one SR and my mom & dad in another. I live in Washington, my sister in Arizona and my parents are in Wisconsin where we grew up. This is going to be the first time our family has taken a vacation like this since my sister and I were kids.
My husband, son and I took our first ever cruise earlier this month for DS's 5th birthday with my husband's family. It was a 4 night on the Dream. It was so wonderful, I knew I wanted to do it again with my family. One thing was that it was too short! I am definitely looking forward to the longer cruise next year.
I was very happy to see such an active meets board. I think we are all going to have a great time! :yay:

Hi Jessica - Welcome Aboard!!
I am asking that everyone please pray for a little girl's family. A 7 yr old little girl that just finished first grade at my school last week was killed in a car accident on Saturday 5/28. I am just weak right now. She was a sweet little girl with bright eyes and a passion for learning. So as we all look forward to happy times with our children and family on our Fantasy cruise, please remember all those little ones that will never get to do all the things we take for granted because they were taken away from us way to soon.

Okay...final post of the morning since I am supposed to be working. I found a really cute stuffed Mickey wall hanging holding a since with "Red, White and Blue" on it. I put it up for Memorial Day, but can't wait to bring it on the cruise for the 4th. :goodvibes
I can't believe how much stuff I have already bought for this trip.
Also, we got to go on the new Star Tours ride this past Saturday. We won a slot in the AP preview contest. IT WAS SOO COOL!! They did a great job with the referb, but now that it is 3D, I got so sick on the ride. We went twice, and even though I had taken motion sickness med. before we went, I was still "not in a happy place". That freaks me out a bit as next year we will be flying (gives me vertigo), on a boat for 7 days (seasick easily), and then WDW for a week. :scared1:
I may have to be drugged out of my mind to make it through. Patches, and dramamine and ginger...oh my! :scared:

My son does well with a prescription of Meclizine from the Dr.
The BIG child in me has just finished a countdown chain (like the old ones we used to make when we were kids) that will start at the 365 day mark which isnt far away. I have it hanging from the front door going up the stairs. Now I am looking for some Disney Cruise or Character trivia (fairly hard) for my kids. I figure there could be a trivia question per week? Somethng to get them a little more excited.
I also went to Michaels Sunday and got some pretty intersting pirate things on clearance for cheap, cheap for FE's!!
Let's see? Oh, and I made another magnet for the door. None of which are on my list for a while. I am supposed to be working on my FE.

OK. Explain - Trash the dress? I know you are getting married at WDW prior to cruising right? wow! Is it costing a fortune and a half to bring the photographers on a cruise or are they family members or someone? Did you get a package deal to bring them? I LOVE seeing the wedding pictures from CC.

It is hard to believe this we have entered June of 2011 and June of 2012 is when we are going.
We didn't get anything but I almost hope we don't get something as I am not telling our son until his 13th birthday on March 29th. I figure that way he will still be able to help decide on which excursions we do. If it shows up and he sees it I will have to get quite creative. On the other hand it would make it more fun for me.

I wonder why not everybody gets a welcome back letter? Maybe it has to do with who you book through? We have two staterooms and got two letters.

I am not creative at all but I think the fun part outweighs the lack of creativity. There is a great place to find fun things to order to give and that is the Oriental Trading Company. We often shop here for Halloween presents. I thought I would also try to find something unique from here where we live. Don't know what that is yet but I will be keeping my eyes open when we are traveling throughout Colorado this summer. My bet is it won't be something from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory or Enstrom Toffee as chocolate and cruises don't seem to go hand in hand. We learned that the last time we were in Florida during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and we left our chocolate in the car . . . oops.

I have an embroidery machine if anyone wants or needs something you can PM or email me at sccrmnky2005@yahoo.com. You can go to my wedding planning Journal and on the first page it has an index of different projects I've done and a few sample designs available.
I am starting on lots of DCL designs and plan on adding them to pillowcases and I will post pictures once I get a few samples done it might be a fun gift Idea for the kids, as many people use them to get the characters to sign. The samples I've done in my weding planning journal also includes a few embroidered characters throughout the pillow.

I have an embroidery machine if anyone wants or needs something you can PM or email me at sccrmnky2005@yahoo.com. You can go to my wedding planning Journal and on the first page it has an index of different projects I've done and a few sample designs available.

Yes, we have decided this weekend we will do the FE. :cool1:
I made our FE in 2009 when we did our first crusie so it's not with my machine, but I might have time to make another one, if not I'm still planning on some nice gifts for everyone, trying to find something to make with my machine:)

SOOOO freakin excited!!!! We are 1 year out from our vacation! We will be doing a 1 week park experience before our cruise. Universal, WDW, maybe Discovery cove and we leave one year from today! I can't believe how quickly this time is coming. But boy oh boy do we have to save the money to do everything we want!:upsidedow
This is sooo motivating my weight loss efforts. I have been scouring the Dream trip reports and getting more and more excited. I hope, to loose 100# by then. (I AM going to loose 100# by then!) I want to go on a vacation and be comfortable in my own skin KWIM?
Anyone else working toward loosing weight?
Something else I was thinking about. How do you guys feel about a thread for our kids to get to know each other? My DD is interested in joining the DIS and I know she would benefit from precruise interaction with other kids.

I think this would be fun for the kids but unfortunately we are not telling our DS until his birthday on March 29th. I guess we could switch and make it a Christmas Present but either way it would still be a while before we would be able to join. Is there an age limit for these posts? Or do we just have the kids write through our names?
I just did my periodic check of the prices for our cruise and if we had booked our cabin today it would cost us almost $2,900 more money then when we locked in a long time ago. Wow, no wonder they have no problem with us cancelling all the way until April as they could turn it around and sell it for a small fortune. To be honest, I don't think I could convince my DH to spend that much money on a Disney Cruise.
I am jealous that some of your Disney vacations are starting ahead of ours but I have not decided yet if we are just going to go to the cruise or if we are going to have a quick stay before at Disney World.

I tried to swap weeks from the July 7th Western to the June 23rd Western and it would have cost me an extra $2500. I could not afford that.
I am getting excited too. We will be leaving here to head to Florida on June 28, 2012, so my countdown calendar begins on THAT date, since that is technically when my vacation begins. I am SO ready to hit that 1 year mark - this upcoming week - or in 2 days - or in 30 hours 6 minutes - or in 1,806 minutes - should i keep going?
I need more printer ink so I can make more magnets!!!!!!!

I just checked and this is what it says...
If you are under the age of 13, the administrator may require that a parent or guardian provide consent before allowing you to complete the registration process. More information about this is available during the registration process.
So is anyone else interested in our kids chatting before the cruise?
We also did a price check. Last week it was $2800 more, I just checked last night and it is up to $4,256 more!:scared1: We are still over a year out from the cruise! We would definitely not be going either if we had to pay that.
I also looked at excursions, and looked at the dolphin encounters. I can't see spending that money when you can have a full day at Discovery cove for just a little more, including a "swim" with the dolphin. I think we are going to have to plan in a discovery cove day for sure.
Hey, Princess Vija, I thought your Disboard name sounded familiar. I just went back and checked and we were both on the June 24, 2006 cruise! That was the cruise that we meet many Disboard families and we still stay in touch with a few of them. That cruise was so much fun, we actually cruised again with Carole66 in 2008 on the Mexican Riviera.
I am also on a weight loss journey. I would love to lose 80# by then (already on a diet that has me down). So we are going to do this :)
We started a kids thread on the 2008 cruise and my kids would love to do it again. They were asking if they had a thread this time. I don't know how to start one but would participate if there was one.
I don't know if I can contain myself for a whole year until the cruise is here:woohoo:. My DH thinks I am crazy because I keep checking out the ship on line to see all the new bars, dining rooms, and pools. I just can't wait!!

So, I finally created a ticker for our trip. It is a sad and happy time, as our APs for Disneyland are up this Friday, but we go into serious countdown mode for our trip next summer which is exciting. We decide not to renew so that 1) the kids will look at WDW with fresh eyes having not gone to a park for a year, and 2) to use that money toward our trip.
This, of course, means I am exhausted from the last minute flurry of DL visits. I am happy that I will soon have more energy to focus on 2012. My DH just asked last night about the FE and how that works, and we actually came up with a few ideas. Yay! Now I just need to decide if I am going to make the FE or "contract it out". :confused3 Anyone have a good source for Disney fabric?
So, I see a few of the families are going to WDW before the cruise. After much consideration, we decided that going after will work better for us. (We'll see how well that works out. Best laid plans and all :rotfl:) Is anyone else going after the cruise?

Hi Susan!!! That is too cool that we will be cruising together again! How was the Mexican riviera cruise? Were you at the DIS meet in the beginning when we wore our lime green tee's at the sailaway party? There was a pick taken of all of us, where you there? I will have to dig out that photo, not sure where it is right now.
Congrats on already losing weight! That is great! How much have you already lost? We can hopefully cheerlead each other to our goals.
I think we should start the kids on a thread. I am guessing that we should do one here on this forum, vs the teen forum? I'll have my kids sign up for the DIS. DD will probably be quite active on the thread, not so sure about DS.
I too am checking the ship online and show the family the new updates. Did you see the time lapse of the Fantasy? Check it out here... http://www.disunplugged.com/2011/06/25/time-lapse-video-of-disney-fantasy-cruise-ship-construction/

OOOH, I am so jealous of your trips to DLR. We are going to be in Vegas this summer, and all I can think is how close we are to Disneyland.... We just can't fit it in, we are doing a road trip through parts of the Southwest and just can't fit it in. I am excited to go to WDW and Universal before the cruise. We did it so that DH could relax on the ship and end the vacation in relax mode. I am worried that I'll be too depressed to leave the ship and fly home right away. I think I'll just have to start planning our next WDW trip to take away the sadness!;)

Yes, I am in that picture but I will have to pull it out to see where I was standing. We had an OK time on the Mexican Rivera cruise. I didn't like that it was cold at sea when we went between islands and my DH got sick with the virus that hit the ship after Cabo. I don't think we will do another west coast cruise.
So far I have lost 46lbs. I really want to be at my goal weight for my daughter's HS graduation and this trip. I have struggled with it for years and have decided that this is my LAST diet. If you want to join me you are more than welcome. I will be here for you if you need me :cheer2:.

We actually booked this while on the Dream this past February. We were not completely sure of the dates and figured we could switch it to another date later on. Well, when I called last week, other summer dates are much much higher than what we reserved for this one so we are staying right here! ok so we cruised Halloween 2010 western and LOVED it. (anyone from that cruise on this one?) The kids wanted us to rebook after one hour on the ship. One evening while they were off having fun we sat down and did indeed rebook. BUT we told the kids that because of the new ship prices were going up and we just couldn't afford it.
So we have been talking about going to Florida June 2012 to go to Disney, see relatives, go to beach, etc. as a way to celebrate the end of elem school and middle school so we have been kinda planning/talking about that. I cannot keep a secret well but am proud I have so far.
Our plan so far is to leave VA after school gets out (maybe drive maybe fly) and then spend some time seeing friends etc. and then go to the cruise. I am trying to figure out when to spring the news on them about the cruise. What do you all think? Have you surprised your teens? How? Would love to hear the thoughts/ideas.
thanks

Kate -
We've not surprised the kids with a cruise, but we are surprising them with our January Disney trip.
Honestly, with teens, if they're not the type of people who need to prepare for a big change, I'd wait until we were at the terminal, but that's just me. I've always wanted to pull off a huge surprise like that!
Even with our January trip, it won't be a surprise at their arrival, but we are telling them on Christmas morning - so they won't know but for a few days in advance (we leave on New Year's Day). This will be the most "surprise" we've ever been able to do - they love to plan as much as we do.

We are surprising our DS with this trip but we are going to tell him on his birthday which is on March 29th. We figured that way he could help us plan the excursions we will be doing. He is 12 so surprises are fun but he would be disappointed if he couldn't help plan (he is like me). Anyway, I think it totally depends on the age of your kids. With younger ones showing up at the port would be fine. As they get older a lot more is going on in their life so you probably wouldn't want to wait until the very end. But I am getting so excited I am hoping I can wait until March to tell him.
DCLaholic-mom
07-10-2011, 05:38 PM
That is a hard one. I guess it depends on your kids. I would personally wait until pulling into the terminal, but if one of your kids is sensitive to that type of thing and might get mad at you for not telling them earlier, then I would at least let them know earlier.

thanks for the thoughts. I am beginning to think we will not make it all the way to the cruise but will wait til much closer to tell them about it. DD is a planner and would be annoyed to be in FL and then learn we were going on a cruise. DS would probably be too. hmmm now to figure out how to tell them. :)

I have been ready to pack. Already bought my son a few shirts so thank goodness he will not be growing a whole lot since he is 17 1/2.
Maybe you should tell them on a birthday, or like we did for our 2004 cruise. We put Disney stuff and a on board credit certificate as a present and had ours open them at the same time. That was fun. One year we did a Christmas morning treasure hunt so it took them 30 minutes to find the "big" present. They LOVED it. Maybe you could do something like that since they are older and the gift at the end may be something about the Disney cruise. It would take some work on your part, but I promise it is something no one will ever forget.

Anyway - I really came on the board to say that I just won a chili cook off at my DD's school. Yes, I just wanted to brag, and tell my cool Dissers. :cool1:

Sure...PM me with your email if you really want it. I will say this, it is super labor intensive. I have only made it twice outside of a contest. It requires the dicing of a tri-tip and that takes FOREVER, and then there is about 4 hours of cooking time not including the crock-pot. It is really tasty though.

So, now I am beginning to second guess doing WDW in July after the cruise. I have been reading a lot of posts about how awful the Tour Groups are, and it seems that they really peak in July and August.
I am thinking late June might be a little bit better. Has anyone here ever experienced a problem with the groups, or is this being over-stated?

We are actually going to Disney three to four days before the cruise. Our last Disney trip was five years ago, but we also went the last week of June and we didn't have any problems with crowds.

I know what you mean, I forgot about the tour groups until I started reading the recent threads. We are doing the week before our cruise in the parks, and I just hope they aren't bad then. We went in late June last time we cruised (2006) and I don't remember any tour groups at all.

You are welcome. Glad I could help.
Well, I just found out that I will have to tell my son earlier than expected. His boy scout group is planning a trip to a boy scout camp on Catalina Island next summer and guess which week they picked? I am hoping he would rather go on a Disney cruise instead of a boy scout trip. The major thing in our favor is that we are going to be taking the Fantasy with the cool slide. He has mentioned that before.
We will see.

Catalina is beautiful. You can't talk to the adult leaders planning the trip and see if they can move it back one week so that he can go? Our Troop just had their planning meeting last week and they make it very clear that dates are subject to change. I would try that.
I am sorry I have been out of it. It has been a long summer. I worked a second job to help pay for our cruise and then straight back into teaching as the new school year approached with a bang - And now the computer issues. Go figure. In the meantime, I notice that Disney Cruise Line is teasing us all on Facebook. That is ok though because it is just making me want the ship to come out of hiding even faster!! I wonder why they havent posted anything on her lately. Come on Fantasy!!!!! :woohoo:

We are taking our first Disney vacation as a family of 4 on this cruise and I am so excited! My husband and I are bringing my son who will be 3 at the time of cruise and my daughter who will have just turned 1 at the time of the cruise! I've only been on one Disney Cruise- Disney Wonder/Eastern and it was before I was even married. Husband has not experienced the wonder of DCL yet. Here is my stroller question. Does DCL rent strollers? Do people use them on the ships? What about on excursions? Thanks!!!

Hi DisMom1981,
Welcome aboard!!! You guys are going to have a blast. Your children are going to be very well taken care of in the kids clubs and nursery so do not be afraid of leaving them once in a while. As far as strollers, I do NOT believe they rent, but there is plenty of walking space that you could bring your own for the ship and excursions. I have honestly seen very few strollers on the ship itself. I would not bring the double wide kind, but if the seats are one in front of the other that would work. I hope my observations helped. Your TA would be able to find out for sure.

Thank you! Haven't seen anything on the DCL website so I figured I'd ask here, but I will find out for sure. I'm guessing we will need a single stroller for the one year old. Planning on Orlando Stroller Rentals for our stay in WDW after the cruise!!!!!

My DH and I have been to Catalina before on a cruise for our honeymoon. I believe the scouts go on the other side of the island but I am sure it is just as beautiful. I don't think changing the dates will be an option. The troop he attends has about 100 scouts and they plan far in advance. I will see but am not optimistic. To be honest I won't be disappointed if he doesn't attend as the cost for the week is almost the same cost as his portion of the cruise. I am hoping he would rather take the cruise than his trip with his troop.

Hi all- Just heard from Orlando Stroller Rentals.....you can take their rented stroller on the cruise! I love this option because then we can have the same stroller for the whole trip (cruise and WDW).

Well I told our DS last night. He came up to me after scouts and was whining that he really wanted to go to Catalina. I told him the reason that he could not go was that we were taking a Disney Cruise that same week. This funny grin came on his face and I realized that I shouldn't have worried that he would rather do Catalina than the cruise. I told him I was afraid he may have outgrown the Disney Cruise Line. He told me "are you kidding me. I think I wouldn't outgrow it even if I was 70 years old." Needless to say he is thrilled. He was asking us if we were taking the Dream and when I told him that we were taking the Fantasy he questioned if they still had the aquaduck. Shows what is important to him.
Now I can plan with him.

How old is your son? I am taking my son on the cruise because I told each of my kids that I would take them each on a one week vacation of their choice (within reason of course) as my high school graduation gift to them. He chose the Disney cruise point blank. There were not even any other options thrown out.
Anyway, my son is also in a large troop. He is currently a Life scout, but has finished his Eagle project. He just has one merit badge to finish and then he is on his way. He has been to Philmont in New Mexico 5 times. I would say if you can handle it, definetaly send your son because it is a once in a lifetime thing for most. My son passed up Sea Base in Florida this summer to go BACK to Philmont.
OK. Now my question. For those of you doing WDW before or after the cruise, do you do it on your own or do you plan it thru a travel agent? What is the cheapest way to do and see WDW? I am from CA. so I grew up at Disneyland. Just about lived there. I have also been on the Disney cruise before, but have NEVER been to WDW.
lbcrosby
08-28-2011, 04:13 PM
Our son is 12. We will consider Philmont as I am sure our son will enjoy that almost more than Catalina as water activities are not his favorite.
We will actually be going to Universal Studios ahead of time. We did Disney World and Sea World the last time we went and we space out our activities to see different things each time we go. We will be using AAA as we were told we may be able to get discounts if we book through them. When we went to Disney World before it was the package through Disney and they don't do that anymore so unfortunately I cannot help you there. But, I think I used AAA before as well. One thing we did which was a lot of fun was stayed Wednesday night in the concierge level at the Animal kingdom so that we could do the sunrise safari on Thursday morning. This was only offered if you stayed concierge. This was one of our favorite things we did while there. Anyway, just a thought.

We are planning to stay at WDW before (that may be up in the air now). I did the majority of the planning, but we are tentatively using AAA as our TA. They have a good ticket deal (Hoppers, WP & more) for about 500 less than Disney as well as some other discounts. We may have to switch our accommodations though, so I may just do it myself. As we potentially have a big budget change, we are now looking at renting a DVC place or even staying off site if we still want to do the parks. Off-site seems to be the cheapest way, but it's not my favorite. I really value the EMH especially in the mornings, so that is a hard perk to give up.
Hydroguy has a really good thread on WDW for the DL veteran. I found it to be really helpful on things that we want to see that aren't at DL.

So, I have really been trying to work on a FE. My DD and I even made it to the fabric store (Joann's) but didn't find anything we liked. I may try to just make it out of solid felt - red, black and yellow - and do some design on it. I just can't get motivated.
Anyone else making more progress?

Because people will ask about Bingo.
Normally I let "little kids" & other folks in wheelchairs pet him. But when its a ship Full of kids i don't let anyone.
He works for the "petting" that i give him. If i let everyone pet him, He wont work for me. (sorry)

So on this, our first really dreary, cold day here in Indiana yet this fall, I'm dreaming of June.
Hoping Southwest releases their next set of dates soon - I want to get moving!!!
That's all - just dreaming.
In the interim, I have a hockey season and gymnastics competition season to get through! DS1's team won their season opening tournament, so we're in for an exciting season with him. DS2 is still recovering from a broken leg sustained at practice, so we're trying to keep him otherwise occupied. BUT! He went to school today w/o the wheelchair for the first time in a month. The last list that I have in my system is from June. Since there are some people that have joined since then and some have left my bet is it is out of date. I figured life will slow down after the holidays and then I can focus on these . . . well, maybe.

Has anyone else read the post about 18 year olds not being allowed in the teen club now? How many people on this thread have 18-20 year olds going on the cruise? I was under the impression that my son would be able to participate in the Vibe if he so chose. Now that looks like it is not possible. I am honestly considering that we may have to cancel. I don't want a bored 18 year old! I wonder if DCL will make a better effort in this age group.

I will have an 18 year old on the cruise and I am hoping he will be with the college aged kids. He will not be in high school anymore and startring Pre-dental in the fall. He is not going to want to hang out with a bunch of kids younger than he is. I have heard great things about the college group they have and I am in no way going to stop him from hanging out with his new college level peers. It is time for them to grow and learn and no where better than to meet people and make new friends than on a Disney Cruise.
