On which rides/attractions are you not allowed to take pictures? Are they specifically just no flash photography or no photography period?

Thanks!

Soarin' is no photography at all. Also, recently when I was on Space Mountain, the cast member told me to put my camera away. I had never heard this rule on Space Mountain and was not sure if it was a rule or just that cast member- would love to hear if people know for sure. I think Star Tours is also no photography at all. Other than that, I can't remember having to put my camera away for any other rides.

Also, there is no photography allowed at all on Monster's Inc Laugh Floor, Carousel of Progress, and sometimes Rockin Roller Coaster (probably for safety).

Star Tours specifically states no flash photography. And they do come on over the PA if you try it. Though I can't see trying a non-flash photo on there even with a fast lens. Talk about camera shake!

The carousel of progress is my fave... and I can not figure out the no camera rule.

Half the people go on the ride to sleep!

When we were there a few weeks ago, the first time we went on the COP the CM said no photos. The second time we went the CM (a different one) said no flash photography please. So I was able to get some half decent shots on the second time we went on.

The trick is to already have shaky hands. If they're bad enough, it counteracts the ride....ok fine, the ride counteracts the shaky hands :rotfl2:

They did say FLASH photography on the ride.

The cast member on CoP I had in August said No Flash photography. I've heard they sometimes say no photography but I have no idea why. As for Star Tours, I thought they insisted that you put all items away before starting. Now I'm tempted...good thing it's closed now, with my luck, I'd be the one that loses a grip on the camera and gets it banned for good. :)

Many of the reports vary a lot. There was a thread on this a while back. It was funny to see how many people reported no FLASH photography on Soarin and how many people reported no photography. I think it depends on the CM. There have been a few really cool pics posted from Soarin.

I plan to have my camera around my neck pretty much the whole trip. Obviously I will have to put it up for things like everest, space mountain, rock n roller coaster, etc. But on rides such as Soarin (for example) if there is no photography allowed will I have to put my camera up or can I just keep it around my neck. I am not one to break the rules so if they say no photos, I won't take any. I just want to be prepared and not have to be 'fussed at' by any CM's.
Star Tours will be closed while I am there so that won't be an issue for me.

Mainly, I'd just listen to what the CMs say, and take them at their word. If you happen to be there on a day a CM says 'no photography', then I'd refrain...if you happen to get a Cm who says 'no flash photography', I'd fire away and just avoid the flash. I've actually heard both in the same place on several occasions - so I do think that it's the CM who may not fully understand the rules. My personal belief is that photography is allowed in all Disney locations where there is no danger from fast movement, but no flash - and sometimes the CM gets it wrong and omits the word 'flash'. But rather than get into any arguments/debates on the topic, I just follow the rules du jour!

I have taken photos on Soarin.' I listened very carefully and heard "No Flash Photography" so I kept my camera around my neck. The CM came by and checked the harness and my camera was in plain site and she said nothing. I made sure the flash and preview screen were turned off. I agree with Justin. Follow the rules you hear and you'll be fine.

I've had the same happen, and then on that very ride, a CM came over the PA and said "no photography." I was irritated/embarrassed.

My last trip, I got yelled at for taking no-flash photos in the queue for Stitch's Great Escape. The pre-show with the animatronic aliens before the Stitch room.

Seriously, it wasn't even the ride yet. Made me mad.

But I did get a few good pics before they stopped me. :D

I know that feeling - and I don't like it either. :( The price we pay for doing more than just family snapshots! Such a heavy load we bear... ;)

The mention of Carousel of Progress reminds me of something happened on a recent trip that I think I forgot to write up in my trip report. We were in, IIRC, the second scene, and a woman had to get up and leave through the emergency exit. I don't remember why - grumpy kid? I am not sure. But, there is a reason that call it the emergency exit on CoP - since the whole place is moving, the door will take you different places, and you certainly don't want it open when it's rotating!

Well, what happened was the ride didn't rotate, and we saw the same scene all over again. After that, it' still didn't rotate, and we saw the scene again! I think the time after that, it rotated properly and the rest of the ride went normally. Still, sitting through the same scene three times in a row can try the patience of even those who have no problem with the ride! But it would have been great for photos. :) I think we either got the "no photography" message or else I was busy holding my daughter, so I never tried.

I have been told to put my camera up on Stitch, CoP, and the Laugh floor. Truthfully, I have no idea why they would ban photography in those areas.

When we went a few weeks ago I will say that for the first time on HM and POTC the castmembers did specfically say something to me about not usiing a flash as I was entering the ride which I thought was nice-it was done more like a personal reminder. Now if only the person in the boat in front of us would have understood English it would have probably worked better

Last month while I was on POTC, I was taking photos during the ride (no flash, of course!)...and someone behind me in our boat was happily snapping away with flash, literally 3 or 4 shots of every diorama. I don't know if there was a language barrier, but the P.A. came on several times to request no flash, to no avail. What was particularly galling was when we were getting near the end, and our boat closed in on the one in front of us - the two people in the back row turned around to see who the moron with the flash was in the next boat, and they see....ME, sitting in the front row with a big, honking DSLR. They gave me scowling looks, to which I held up my camera and said 'look ma, no flash!...it wasn't me!'. I'm not sure they believed me, but I had to at least try to defend myself from the false accusational look.

Happened to me on the American Adventure. First CM says no Flash photography when we're on our way in. So I start getting set up and the CM at the front podium says "as a REMINDER, there is no photography of any kind". I make sure to follow the rules that are announced at the time of my visit, i just sometimes wish they would make up their minds.

Oh, and I have some nice CoP pics because when I visited they clearly said no Flash photography. Which is good because DW and DD have no intention of ever visiting that attaction again :headache:

I've never had them ask me to put my camera away even on rides that don't allow photography, which is good since sometimes I end up sticking things in my camera bag and I can't put my camera away. My camera big is one of the stiff sturdy ones so if we have something breakable I'll put it in there. Maybe I wasn't asked because I tend to wear my camera sling style if I'm not taking pictures so they didn't notice it. :confused3

The only time I got conflicting messages on my last trip was when they said no flash photography on Haunted Mansion, which I knew and I was cool with, but then I got told no photography when I was taking pictures in the stretching room. It was as the room was emptying out, and the room was full so I wasn't holding anything up but hey, their playground, their rules. I turned my camera off and followed the herd.

I have a huge issue with people taking flash pictures on dark rides, and I swear there's something about PotC that breaks the "follow the rules" part of people's brains. Out of the six to eight times we road that ride on our last trip only once did we not have someone in our boat taking flash pictures. :headache:

I've had this happen on Star Tours too, except it was the same CM (I think...) she said no flash photography as she was closing the doors, so I thought it would be fine to take a couple non-flash photos. Suddenly I was getting yelled at, during the ride, over the intercom. :headache:

See, I still don't get the appeal.

I have a hard time myself, even though I love to take pictures, trying to balance experiencing the vacation with photographing it. This just seems like one of those rides to experience and not photograph, I dunno. The pictures just aren't going to be all that worthwhile.

Not that there aren't plenty of newbies and unskilled masses with DSLRs too...but I've always found it a bit funny that the bigger the camera, the MORE you get targeted by the CMs for comments like that, when in my observations, 90% of the offenders are those with P&S cameras and phone cameras with flashes that have no idea how to even turn them off.

You would think it would be a safe assumption that those walking around Disney with a DSLR, vertical grip, tripod, F2.8 lens, bag of additional lenses, a harness system, etc would probably be obsessed and knowledgeable enough with cameras and photography to avoid using flash on rides!

I have had the "No Flash Photography" conversation with a fellow POTC guest in the seat behind me. They claimed to know how to turn off the flash, but apparently felt the rule didn't apply to them. Very frustrating!

The only time I have hear NO photos was Soaring, and I think once on Spaceship Earth :confused3.

I can't believe no one has thrown up their COP pics! Not the straightest, but you are moving after all ;)

Don't forget, It's a great big beautiful tomorrow!
