Hello Everyone!!! I would like to get a jump on the 2011 swap calendar.

In this first post, will be the swap sign up dates & the swap due dates.

In the second post will be the hostess guidelines and a few things that have come to our attention over the year. The swaps are broken down by catergories (color coded) and "guidelines" for what we'd like to have happen this year. We would like to space things out so alot of things go throughout the year and are not all bunched up.

2011 Swap Calendar

Important Information:

Hostess Guidelines:

Hostessing a swap:
1. Check in on your swap at least 2-3 a week. Questions do pop up that need to be answered by the hostess… If there is a change in the requirements; please note it in the original post (OP) and bold it in a different color!
2. Respond to questions promptly.
3. Once you have received items put them somewhere safe until everything arrives.
4. If someone's items are not up to standard let them know and work with them on correcting the situation. PM them don’t bring it public and cause hurt feelings. (We have not had this problem… just wanted to make the request)
5. Once you have the items; divide them out for people quickly and mail them out. Make sure you are keeping on top of this and staying in contact as you do this.
6. Please note the status of your swap in the title: Sign ups Open; Active/Progress;
Return Mail; Complete.
7. Hostesses, we ask that you contact those interested in being an angel before you open it up to others already in the swap. I know sometimes it’s easier just to ask the other swappers but if someone wants to angel, let’s ask them first.

Hostessing

I’ve swapped and hosted swaps on other boards. How do I host a swap here?
A – We like to get to know swappers before they become a hostess. As such, we prefer that new posters complete three swaps on time and according to guidelines before hostessing their first swap. After the completion of the required swaps (3), post on the Swap Calendar thread that you are interested in hosting and you will receive additional instructions. Each first time hostess will work with a hostess mentor on their first swap. This person is an experienced hostess who will help “coach” the new hostess through their duties and act as back up as needed. After the first successful swap is completed, you are welcome to host any future swaps that will fit on the calendar.

I don’t want to participate in three swaps before I host one. Can’t I just host a swap now?
You are free to post a swap at any time. The issue is that most swappers on our board won’t sign up for a swap hosted by someone they don’t know or who didn’t follow the above process. We do this to protect our significant investments of time, money and creativity.

If you are hosting and a change needs to be made, we can make those changes. I know things happen, its okay. Just please post all changes to the swap calendar so that the changes can be made in the calendar for the new swappers coming onto our boards and even for the veteran swappers who are looking to see what else they want to be involved in.

To make the swaps on this board run smoothly we are going to try to eliminate some of the overcrowding that has been done with all the Mega/Large swaps being done so early in the year that new swappers while they may participate need to wait almost a full year to get into the Mega/Large swaps. (Especially the park swaps).

We’ve broken the swaps up into categories and the number of each category we’d like to see on the calendar. There can be and will be adjustments, these are just desire/guidelines to make things run smoothly and keep things spread out!

Mega Swap:Mega Swap is the big Park Swaps. Over the years these 4 swaps have manifested into huge under takings with lots of options open to all of us. *With this being said, we may need to consider holding the Mega Park Swaps individually; but maybe breaking down some of the big wish list items into small larger swaps ~ for example the breaking down of character names etc…maybe doing a MK Character altered letter swap or a MK Ride altered letter swap that will be done after the Mega Swap is complete).
The Mega Swaps we would like to be hosted Seasonally… breaking it down into every 3 months.

I don't leave until Sat, so I am here. :goodvibes Unfortunately, I am going to have to back away from hosting (and swapping) next year. I can tell DH's patience is running thin, because I do tend to stress about them. And now that I've actually started using my scrap stuff, I want to focus on making albums next year. I keep saying I am going to step away, but then don't actually do it.

So, other hostesses are more than welcome to take over the DL/DCA Swap (Rita, maybe?) and the Resort swap. I think I will hold onto the paper piecing swap, but I want to do it in the latter half of 2011. How about signups - Aug 1, Due Sep 30th.

If I actually stick to my goal of making things in 2011, I know I will need to replenish my stash and will be back into swapping in 2012.

I need to use my stash next year too!!! I need to back away from swaps too because of DD's upcoming graduation and have lots of stuff to make scrapbook/ announcements/ open house announcements before April of 2012!!!!

I would like to do an all letter swap...2" words and 4" letters. I contacted PN96 about this. She is on board...we just wanted to see about interest. I was thinking 3 different sections: Rides, Parks / Lands and Icons (not just the main large ones...adding in the partner statue, monorail, etc.). So, this would be a huge swap as one. Even though the letters are easy and quick to make, there are so many options. After discussing it, Nan and I thought it would be best to split it into 3 different swaps. I would like to host the rides swap. Nan offered to do the Lands one and Traci (mycutiepatooties) would like to do the Icons one. Everyone seems to like the letters so I thought this would be ideal. What does everyone think?

I don't know exactly what Nan and Traci have in mind for a set-up for their swaps, but I would like to do 2" letter words for the more popular rides and 4" letters for pretty much all rides that there is interest for. I will break them down by park and / or land. As for a date estimate, I am thinking about a late March sign up and a late May due date...or early June.

I think I'll not do Primas this year though - as I still have LOADS - or else, do it much later in the year (say end August? for end September/beg. October?). there wasn't huge take-up so I guess everyone else still has plenty of pretty flowers too:rolleyes1

ETA any date is fine with me for the complete pages, if you can avoid me needing to do a lot round February (too many bithdays) and August (school holidays).

Completely forget that last post.
I was just looking at the calendar from last year. PN and AWM....please let me know what you think. Do you think I could hostess the MK swap in January and roll the couples/duos swap into a character swap for April/May sometime. The groups for the duos would be fairly small and they could just be a separate group in the character swap, or should I hold a separate swap. What do you think? It's been a whole year almost since the MK swap and I'd be willing to tackle it with a little help from my friends:flower3:. January would be perfect timing for me as I'm trying to fill the time until our trip late next year. I mean......I'm a planner when it comes to our trips but 14-months of planning may be a little extreme even for me :rotfl:.

Ok, ladies... I have seen the new posts but have a birthday for my baby to celebrate tomorrow... let me digest this info on Monday and post back to you in regards to all questions...

I'm a planner too...so I have to look at my sheets... and lists...and plan, plan, plan!! So I'm not ignoring anyone purposely...just have that birthday of importance!!! ;)

mommy2mrb... we haven't done the altered paper clip swap before...it was suggested but never done.... so we can work together to figure out how to do it... It would be an easy one to do....

Have you looked them up in a search on the web? That will help in your ideas...(group break downs).... as for the interest thread or sign up thread.. we all do alot of copying and pasting of the current swaps and adjust them to our particular swap!

I am working on my second swap right now, but did 4 or 5 a couple years ago, I would like to host one if possible....maybe the altered paperclips if you think that would be an easy first time one.
Is there a link to an earlier one that I could check out. If you don't think I'm ready I totally understand.

In the one that was done a couple of years ago we had groups based on themes- I think there was up to 10 people per group and we made 2 paper clips per person.

I do want to do both of these. I am thinking early Feb. for the Parks/Icons one. How long do you generally recommend for a due date? I'm flexible though...if you want me to go elsewhere on the calendar.

Pass It Forward...Since we just had one recently I think it's better to put this at the end of the year so people have a chance to collect new items for their stash. Maybe August or the fall sometime?

You all know Disneyland/DCA is close to my heart. Rita and I could even co-host I don't think I live far from her now....
But also I'm not picky. anything Disney is cool with me :thumbsup2 That and I always loved the Recipe swaps I use my books :)

I have you on the books..need a date ASAP as to when you want to do the MK sign ups..and due date...

I would suggest that you just put a few rare/duo groups into your character swap that they are hosting. I think that would be best.. I'd hate for you to have no interest due to the holiday season coming about. Also, when about are you wanting to do the Character Swap? Best if it would be after April.

Pass It Forward...Since we just had one recently I think it's better to put this at the end of the year so people have a chance to collect new items for their stash. Maybe August or the fall sometime?

I need to know the dates of the Park/Icon swap soon since it is scheduled for Feb. I would recommend a 6 week turn around.. I'd have the due date in April. Pass It Forward you can get to me later when you know how 2011 is going!

Nancy, you mentioned this in the part where you discussed the mega swaps:

I'd be interested in hostessing this if you want one on the calendar.

Let's hold off on this one but keep it on the burner and she how the character swap goes and then determine if we can get enough interest in the park specific charaters. I know the characters are endless so it may be that we have to start dividing them up by park...

I was thinking the same...so Nancy would middle of April or early May work for this? or could do later too.

I have it on the calendar... just need you to give me dates that work best for you!

Ok, all hostesses that have requested dates so far, please check everything.. if it has you for a specific month then those are dates you spoke of and just need firm dates... (firm dates are especially needed for Jan/Feb/Mar 2011)...

I have a swap request / suggestion...I'd love to see a Magic Kingdom page swap for the lands...I guess "The Magic Kingdom Land Page Swap"?? LOL Anyway, with the size of the MK swap, I figured it should be seperate? The pages with or without sketches? Anyway, I just thought it would be a good one. I know there was a MK page swap in the past...but I did not look at the thread, so I'm not really sure what it included. I would be willing to host this in between my other two...or someone else could do it. Either way is good for me. I just think it will be a useful one! My suggestion would be to see if their is interest in Land Swaps for this park here ( the AK Swap) and limit it to one or two groups 1 page LOs... (lands only)...

I'd do all the rest as elements...
then as we find their is more interest for things we can add them to the calendar....

Just my thoughts...no requirements to do any of the above except to not do ride words...

Mail by May 31st ---is this enough time?? or too much?? can adjust if needed,

A swap is when we all do some scrapbooking elements (according to what we sign up for) and then mail them to a hostess who moves them around so people get things back from others (according to the way they signed up) and then mails them back to the participants. They are a really neat way to get lots of cool scrapbooking items. if you look at the swap gallery sticky you will see lots of examples.

I totally agree with you!!!! TOTALLY!!! I think the letters are great but they are becoming very hard to sort and there are infinite number of words we can all come up with.

I too would prefer as would BAMB as we have discussed this at length in the past few weeks see the 2" words separate. If there was a desire to have them in a specific swap they are VERY limited in the numbers.

That is why we are trying to do the 2" letters in their own swaps (rides/parks-icon/lands)... I do think that the character 2" letters need to be done separately....there are just so many options and no one hostess should have to take days and days to sort through a swap to return... We could break the 2" character names down in to parks if the need arises...

I know I said I wasn't going to hostess next year, but I'm thinking I'd really like some pages for things outside of the parks (Blizzard Beach, mini golf, DTD,etc.). I've hostessed the elements swap for this before, but I'd like to do a page swap for this. I know I won't have time to handle a large swap, but I can do a small one like this.

I was thinking July 1 and September 30 for the AK swap...is that ok? They are both Fridays, so it seemed to work out. That gives the Friday and a long weekend for sign-ups. I didn't know if you wanted those dates yet, or not...but I was looking at the calendar and that popped out at me.

I was wondering if I could host a "jar of wimsy" swap. I really enjoyed the one that was done last year or maybe earlier this year. It's a great swap to use up your extras. I have swapped with you all for awhile now and am currently in four swaps (ABC Swap, other parks, seasonal and holiday, and surprise) Any dates are fine except for May because I have tow vacations planned for May. I'll let you all decide on dates. RhondaGreene is fairly new to swapping on the boards but she lives very close to me and we work together and she is willing to help.

Hi Everyone!
Many of you know that we started a youth theater last year and this year we finally got our own space. While this is wonderful and things are going well it is very time consuming and expensive and my sacrifice was swapping and scrapping, for awhile.:)
There will be only 2 swaps I will be joining this year and thats if anyone hosts the because I dont think I noticed them. Those would be the MAW pages and the Color swaps.
I will be admiring all of your beautiful work and looking forward to doing more in the future.
I will be joining the BAN wagon this year and will be over on the scrapping thread and will pop in occassionlly.

Nan - Can we change the sign-up date for the 2" letters (rides) swap from the 25th to the 24th please? I have DS's district wrestling tournament the night of the 25th and will have to go out around 4. I'd like to be home all day for the first day of sign-ups. So, the 24th would work better. Thanks a bunch!!! I will make a note to let everyone know on the interest thread of the date change and that I will not be on for that second night (but will be in the morning and afternoon).

Good morning. Didn't see an ABC Disney Topic (elements only) swap for this year. Would anyone mind if I added one to the calendar? I don't want to do full pages, just topics. People would choose their letter(s) and then the topic they would like to make. Small page kits is what I had in mind. We could also cover a general everyday alphabet if everyone is up for it. Does that sound ok? Did anyone else plan on hostessing one like this? I don't want to take it away from someone else, but was hoping if no one was planning on doing it that maybe I could add it to the calendar. Say maybe sometime in September?

Character swap is definitely a go - it's one of my favorites. I'm trying to put together a list of what to do right now. Will post in the next couple days to see what everyone thinks and if I'm missing any characters. Was thinking I would set it up like the MK swap - some single element groups and some small page kits. I love the page kits and wish I had signed up for more of them in the MK swap. We got a lot of fantastic sets and they make putting your books together so easy. Any special requests for the character swap?

With starting to work fulltime and everything else going on, I'm just not in a good mindset to hostess anything so I was going to ask to drop the page swap for that anyway. I think elements will draw much more interest than pages.

LM3Ks I will get you on the books.... elements, as DIT stated, will probably be better than pages.... it allows for easier addition of photos... I sometimes don't take things in specific direction as directed by a page.

Hey guys,

I haven't been around in awhile, and I still haven't done much scrapping. So even though it is a couple months away, I've been thinking about my paper piecing swap. I think because I have not accomplished my scrapping goals yet, that I want to put this swap on hold until later in the year. August looks to be a busy month on the swap calendar, so hopefully this won't be too disappointing for people. But if someone else wants to host this round, go right ahead.

Hope ~ we will put it on hold until you are ready for it.. Sorry, I did not see this post til today!

I would love to take over this swap. I can post an interest thread to see if people would like signups in June (real soon) or July (7th/8th) and have it due late September. Please let me know if this works!

I will get back with you... as there are a lot of swaps going on right now..and I would rather get several finished and returned before opening up another... I know the girls are handling it well but I would feel better if we had more open swaps closed out... Thanks for your understanding.

No problem! It didn't look like there was much due in September, but I do see that things really clear out later in the year. Just keep the idea on the back burner and let me know later when a good time would be!

Ohhh count me in for the paper Peiceing swap... I have been making pages from my swap stuff like crazy this is a first for me I'm a swap Horder no more. Can I ask a HUGE favor for the future ABC swap's Im going through my past ABC baggies and some of these letters I have no idea what they are for...Can hostesses think about asking for what the letter or set stands for on the labels...I will do this myself in the future. I know the "disney colors" one doesnt count but like the disney ABC's some of these letters Im like What the.....:confused3 FYI I'm donating most of my WDW and misc swap items I received to a special ed school. I heard they want peices so the kids can make pages and since some kids can handle siccors pre-made peices are perfect for them :) Just a thought if you want to thin out your stashes.:rolleyes:

Swappers, I have heard back from Michellepooh in regards to the cruise swap. She is extremely busy at home currently so it would be easier for someone else to take it over if there is interest in it happening now... We could always push it back a few months if the next hostess needs some time to get things organized.

I know the cruise swap is like the DL swap with few people in a bunch

I didn't do the cruise swap last year, but I did before, and I remember it having a few general "beach" or beachy colors groups. I'll keep that in mind as I figure out groups. (And try not to be too jealous :) ).

I will take a look then....well this trip is courtesy of my mom, she's taking us and both brothers and families 9 of us in total!!!....wants to take one more family trip before she get's in her words "to old to walk"! not how I wanted to see HI, but the price is right LOL....Megan and I will have to go back someday by ourselves!

Normally there have a few color groups that can be used for anything.

SIOH- Start collecting stuff for the cruise book now! It will build the excitement and you will take a ton of pics.

What would be insane is missing the swap and wishing you had the pieces when you get those bazillion pictures printed :) (I speak from experience!).

Yes, it is ;). We decided in May that we cannot wait until next April to go to the World, so when I found really cheap airfare (non-stop under $650 for the three of us round trip!) I booked a trip for Thanksgiving. We're going to *try* to keep it as a surprise for Morgan...So far, so good...But I stink at keeping secrets!

We weill be there the Sunday through Tuesday before Thanksgiving- its my birthday trip and we are staying at BLT. We will have to try and get together if you are there some of the same days.

I make my big annual shopping trip next weekend:goodvibes And - I'm so excited-one of my classes that I am taking is going to be using metallic cardstock...can't wait. Would prefer to pick up paper at the warehouse sale if there is anything I definitley want to make for the swaps.

Perfect...never thought to look there...:idea:

I'll definitely be in for Christmas...trying to decide if I should do another sympathy card, or something different like an "edgier" valentine's day card in really bright and bold colors. Decisions...decisions!

I would like to put my page sketch swap back on the calendar. Sing up dates - July 24 through July 29. Due date of September 29th.

This doesn't need as long as other swaps because the layout is done for you. You just need to pick your title, papers and accents.

Will start picking sketches, feel free to send me any that you have a hankering to do.

Also, if you have completed a swap make sure you post it there.. I've tried to be real good about knowing when the swaps are complete but if I'm not participating in them, I could miss them..

Nancy -- I am going to push this back into September if that's okay. August seems to have enough going on. Also, I don't think it is agood idea to have different page swaps going on at the same time.

For now, I am going to say Sept 13 - 15th as the sign up period, but that could change as I don't have the school schedule yet and it is a new school. I will start an interest thread a few weeks prior and see how long people want to complete this and settle on a due date then. I am thinking due before Thanksgiving.

Does anyone know if the pass it forward swap is gonna happen for August? I missed it last year and want to make sure I'm in for this year. Although I've proclaimed myself swap-free for the remainder of this year.....does this swap really count? I mean, I'm not actually making anything :rotfl:

YES! I am definately planning to hostess this one and will do sign ups in August. Would it be easier to have the due date before the end of August or mid September? I know it gets hectic with back to school shopping, fall sports practice starting etc... Would it be better to make the due date once kiddos are back in school? Either will work for me. Of course, you guys can always mail early when you're done.

I definately think you need to be in on this...you're not making anything, so it doesn't count! All you need is an hour to look through your stash and pull things that you want to trade in. Packing them up shouldn't take long either...maybe 30 mins. tops. Compare that to DAYS of creating beautiful swap pieces...so my point is proven...this doesn't count!:hug:
