What are some ideas to tell my DS6 why some of the characters don't "talk"

My DD, age 5, explained it to me:
"Mom, they're people dressed up to look like mickey.
It's not really mickey. But when he hugs me I pretend he is. They can't have him talk, because how can a real person's voice sound like a cartoon. But princesses can talk, because they're real. Can I go buy a beanie?":D

One thing I read on the boards some where was to tell the kids that the for the "annimal" characters to become real they had to give up something, so they gave up their voices.

I usually try not to answer those questions and instead ask them what their thoughts on the subject are, LOL. "Well, Zach, why do YOU think some of them don't talk?" I don't like to lie and I don't want to blow the fantasy for them, this usually gets me off the hook, LOL. :D

tells me that if the characters spoke to everyone at Disney they would have sore throats and need to go to the doctors for medicine. She made that one up herself!!!
