I am looking for a good but inexpensive digital camera for my teen son. He has a few band trips coming up and would like to take a camera but I don't want him to take mine. I was looking for an inexpensive (under $100) one for him to take. It just needs to be a basic camera. I thought maybe someone would have a few recommendations on type or brand.

Thanks.:thumbsup2

I would recommend looking at http://www.dpreview.com/. They have a buying guide where you can compare cameras side-by-side. Maybe some of our P & S comrades could jump in here, but because of the Photokina show that opened, I believe yesterday, the manufacturers have been announcing a glut of new cameras. You may be able to find some deals on the older models as the new ones become available.

This was a good review from last holiday season.

I'd stick with Samsung, Casio, Fuji, Canon, or Nikon in the budget camera selections: avoid Polaroid, Vivitar, and Kodak.

Any of the office depot/warehouse circulars this week will have sub-100 dollar cameras. Take you son and let him pick one out.

At sub-$100 I think I'd just stick with a cell phone camera.

I would really think that for anything under $100, your son would probably be more frustrated by the quality of the pics or camera for it to be worth your while. If possible, you should be looking in the $200+ range, otherwise you may find yourself buying a more expensive one later anyways.

If you're willing to go up to $130 you can have something like a Fuji S1500.

Though Mark's suggestion about the cell phone isn't a bad one. Not that I'm a huge Apple fan, but the 3G iPhone has a great camera in it and goes for under $100 now. Of course you're stuck with a contract on top of that. But I've seen some surprisingly good shots coming out of those things.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my camera - though I'm gonna have to look & see the price - but I know its over $100 - but its a Canon SX 110

I've had the Canon Powershot (A series) before & that's a good camera too -

If you check Walmart they will put tons of cameras on clearance for a great deal - I bought dd a camera (which I can't find to tell you the brand @ the moment) I think its a Nikon - one that's only like 8 mega pixel but with not much zoom & it takes good pics. She's never taking pics of anything that she wants to zoom for - she spends most of her time taking up close pics of herself & friendsl
Anyway - that one was on clearance for $79 (back in the spring)
