Megan and I went to Lake Tahoe were we met up with the wife Lorie of one of the men Jim was travelling with to Haiti, David who also died. She brought along her DS, DDIL, DD, 7 grandkids and her daddy John!

Meeting John for the first time was our blessing....John was one of the few survivors from the Hotel Montana, he escape the first night. I have talked to John a few times over the last 8 months but to finally meet, hug and talk to him in person ment the world.
He is such a sweet and loving man and Megan took to Papa John immediately, every time we came near each other we hugged, touch our faces or held hands. John gave us such important info when Jim was first missing and also told me that when he escaped the building in the middle of the night it was so peaceful and quiet.
Sharing the weekend with this family on the 8th month anniversary of the earthquake an emotional time, we are so grateful to have them be part of our family as we are bounded together forever and know that Jim and David were smiling down on us.

I just wanted to share this with my disfamily here too, thank you for your support and I'm happy to be back here with my dis peeps!

Glad you have a good time Lisa.
It's strange how bonds are made even in the worst of circumstances. DH is forever bonded with the 2 guys he drove back from PA with on 9/11. They don't work together anymore, haven't since 2002 but on 9/11 we still email or call, just to check in.

Webmaster Kathy's mother was also in Haiti during the earthquake, you should touch base with her too if you want.

Thank you Buffy, I was wondering if anyone else on DIS had been affected also. I will contact her.

We were living in Flemington NJ during 9/11 and was impacted too, we didn't lose anyone we knew though.

Buffy, thank you for pointing Lisa to me!!! Lisa, I just dumped a whole lot thoughts into your PM box. Started talking and just couldn't stop.

I am so very, very sorry to hear about Jim.

Here's a clip of my mom two days after the earthquake, as she's being put on a plane to escape back to the US:

Nancy at the airport in Haiti (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/34862154#34862154)

I still cry when I watch this, even 8 months later.

Lisa, read my rambling PMs about those days. I'd like to hear your story, too. And I know mom would love to talk with you. Talking has been so good for healing.

Lisa- sometimes in the worst situations, we have encounters which strengthen our lives and make wonderful memories. Your dh's memory came to life again in the words of someone who shared some special moments with him too.
Ironically, I am teaching this yr with a gentleman whom I never knew taught with my dh - he had some wonderful memories to share with me.
I believe it leaves us feeling so wonderful knowing that they did impact so many others.

You're welcome Kathy. I wasn't sure if I should mention it because after hearing about your mom I wasn't sure if any of you would want to relive that. But I had a feeling Lisa could use some support from others who had been through the same thing.
I've seen the clips of your mom, and I still cry. She is a brave woman!

It really does help us, so many people shared stories of Jim at his memorials, some of which I didn't know.

I do find comfort in talking to others who were there, it fills in so many holes of what actually went on.

Thank you everyone for your continued support, I love my DIS family!

Kathy I'm off to read your posts...I would love to share our story with you and talk with your mom. Will be in contact soon!

You're a sweet soul, Buffy.

Talking about it has been a real help in processing it. There was an overwhelming helplessness, it was far away and there was nothing we could do but wait. I only had to wait a couple of (excruciatingly long) days to know that Mom was alive and we'd be able to get her home. Lisa's limbo was far longer , and ultimately left her with lots of unanswered questions.

Talking is good. :) It's the unknown that's the hardest to deal with.

Lisa, let me know when you're ready and I'll have mom call you.
