We have just booked a B2B for this one and then for the 15th. :woohoo: Count us in for the FE and any Meet once on board.

Looks like it maybe a quiet one :cloud9: as there is no date already set up for the 11th or the 15th.

Looking forward to seeing you and to welcoming any future cruisers:grouphug:

We're doing b2b (11th/15th) as well. Me, DH, DS (10), DD (5). This will be our 3rd/4th cruises. Not thinking too much about the 2011 cruises yet, as we have a cruise on the Magic coming up in 2 months :woohoo:

We'd be interested in the FE exchange...participated on our first cruise and just signed up to participate on our upcoming Magic cruise.

I am highly considering this sailing ;). Dh's birthday is December 12th and our anniversary is December 17th so it'll be a birthday/anniversary present. Dh and I have only cruised once before on NCL for our honeymoon almost 5 years ago. We really want to go on a 7 day cruise, but would prefer a new ship so I'm thinking we'll consider booking Fantasy as well when the 2012 dates come out. For those of you that booked when rates first opened up, what type of rate did you receive for this sailing? I've heard that it's best to book Disney cruises when they first open up for the best price. It will be Dh, myself and DD on this cruise. DD will turn 5 next October, so it should be perfect for her.

We have been booked for almost a year and I have been waiting for someone to start a thread! Thanks RichC17. This will be our first cruise. We took our first trip to WDW in August this year. The kids can't wait to go on the Disney boat. Our children will be dd9, dd6, ds5 when we are on the boat. Hope to meet some great people.

I don't know if we'll want to do the FE or not. I'll probably wait and see. If a bunch of people sign up, I don't want to spend all of my first cruise running around filling bags.:rotfl2:

DH and I are looking to book this one soon. We usually go to WDW in December and actually have to pass this year. So as a make up we are looking at 4 nights in WDW and this cruise because while we love the Magic and like others call her our ship we want to experience the Dream. Will book once we are sure on the dates. We are DVC members so using points for both parts.:cool1:

actually this is a GREAT way to explore all the decks! we have been to areas we never would have been to if we were not giving out gifts! This is how we figured out that deck 5 forward on the Magic is a great quiet area for staterooms!

We booked today. DH Paul and I are in 5050 and my BFF Margaret is in 5052. While we are still not sure about the number of people this ship holds we are still looking forward to sailing on it especially when it is decorated for Christmas! Now we just have to wait until Jan. 4th to book our 4 days at SSR before the cruise. By the way when we booked today the CM told us that effective 1/11 no more smoking is allowed on the private verandas. We are not smokers and this is good news! Sue

Hi, another cruiser here. This is our 5th cruise (all DCL) and we are excited to be joining you on the Dream. Saw the pictures and videos of her arrival at Port Canaveral this morning - how exciting!

We are DVC members and will be staying at OKW for a few nights before our cruise. My sister and her DH will be there, too, but are not going on the cruise. My sister doesn't do well with large bodies of water, she says. :confused3

Our last cruise was November 2010 with my son, DIL and 3 grandkids. It was their first cruise and they are hooked. They have already reserved a 5-day cruise in August 2012, and we reserved the Dec 11th cruise while still onboard to take advantage of the 10% discount.

We probably won't participate in the FE but would be interested in a meet and greet onboard ship or at the terminal. Hopefully we'll have some more folks sign up here so we can start sharing our plans and tips for our cruise. :yay:

Just thought of something - how about a name for our group that we can put in the title of our thread. How about something like December Dreamers?
Any other ideas or suggestions?

Forgot to mention - we'll be in stateroom 6004, aaaaaall the way forward.

Hello fellow cruisers! We have had this cruise booked since the day the bookings opened up in 2009 (and then re-booked onboard last January to take advantage of the OBC and discount). But I have made a deliberate effort to stay OFF this board (only visiting occasionally) - took a LONG break after our cruise last year because I got SO obsessed and spent SO MUCH time on here!

But...now that we are less than a year out... it's time to start obsessing again, especially with all the new info on the Dream that we'll have after the first few cruises next month!

Anyway, it'll be me, DH, DS(11 at the time of the cruise) and DD(7 at the time of cruise). Joining us again for this cruise will be DH's parents. We were originally booked in a 10A on deck 9, but when they finally decided a few months ago that they would join us, the connecting stateroom was gone, so we upgraded to a 9B on deck 2.

I would love to be an active member of this thread over the months to come, but will probably not be participating in the FE. Packing, list-making, and doing door magnets is stressful enough for me... just don't have the time/energy/resources to devote to the FE. Sorry!!

Already DREAMING of this cruise! Looking forward to the planning over the coming months!

Hello, all! :cool1:

This will be our 6th DC and besides the fact that we are SO overdue, this will be our first time traveling with two additional family members! My DH (Rick 35), DS (Avery 6) and Me (Maggie 33) have done several cruises ranging from 7-3 nights and are very excited to have our DD's (Harper who turns 3 while on the cruise and Ellis who will be around 10 months) sailing with us!

We would love to participate in any 'meet and greets' and FE's while on board! I look forward to meeting you all and the 'oodles' of 'fun' that comes along with planning for this cruise!

DH, BFF and I will be at SSR for 4 nights before the cruise. We going through WDW/DL withdrawal during the Christmas season. December 2010 was the 2nd time during the past 25 years that DH and I were not at a Disney park during the Christmas season. We are making up for it big time this December going to the property and on this beautiful new ship! Sue

The only other DCL cruise we went on was late January '10, and it also had a VERY quiet meet thread. I wonder if it has to do with sailing in off-peak times? There just aren't many of us DIS'ers on this cruise maybe? All the cheaper staterooms are already sold out, though, so SOMEBODY is gonna be on the ship with us!!

Was it to the Bahama's? How was the weather? Was the weather warm? Forgive me for all the questions, 1st cruise, 1st disney encounter for my lil man and 1st tropical ( I hope) vaca and SOOOOO excited.

No problem with the questions! I am happy to answer any that I can, even though I have only been on one Disney cruise so far! It was a 4 night cruise to the Bahamas. The weather was quite chilly on the first day in Port Canaveral, but by the time we got to Nassau, it was pleasant. CC day was BEAUTIFUL. The water was a LITTLE bit chilly for my liking, but DH and the kids didn't seem to mind it at all.

Evenings and mornings were a little chilly, but by mid-morning it had usually warmed up pretty well. Keep in mind that I tend to be a little on the cold-natured side. DH would say it was very comfortable the whole time!

Well we live in Foxboro MA, cold is our middle name here. Well that gives me a boost, when the next 12-20 inches of snow comes in ( starting tomorrow:sad2: ) I can think of lying on a beach at least in shorts and t shirt! Can't wait!!!

Yes, where you are coming from most definitely makes a difference in your perspective on the temps!! It probably wouldn't take much for you to think it is quite warm! Me, on the hand... being from Georgia... I probably have much higher hopes (for higher temps!!)

Hi there newcomers! Isn't it fun to do all this planning for your Disney vacation, whether it's a cruise or a trip to the parks? I imagine this thread will pick up as the date gets closer.
Regarding the cheaper rooms being sold out - DCL could be holding some of them, or travel agents might have blocks of them reserved for last-minute clients who want a less expensive room. There sure aren't a whole lot of inside staterooms, though. Mostly ocean view and veranda rooms. The nice thing about having a "quiet" cruise is the chance goes up for a free upgrade, right? :thumbsup2 That would be great!

lbuher
01-31-2011, 07:45 PM
Actually, on our last cruise (last January), the meet thread never did pick up! It stayed pretty quiet/non-active right up until we left! And it was NO indication of how full the ship was, for sure. It was one of the KSF cruises, and it was PACKED. Just not with DISers, I guess! Or not with ones who wanted to participate in a meets thread!

lbuher
01-31-2011, 07:52 PM
Oh, and as far as the cheapest staterooms being gone... I mean ALL of the cheapest ones! Like there are NONE available below a 5D!!! That's either a lot of rooms sold or a heck of a lot of them on hold by somebody!!

Sorry... ETA... I should have clarified.. there are none available for a family of four! There ARE some available for parties of 2 or 3.....

Rogue1230
02-01-2011, 06:35 AM
We got ours, but the TA had to call me back with them. I prefer the inside state room because of the virtual porthole thing-apparently this is a BIG attraction- but I also feel nervous about a verandah with the 3 yr old.

That being said- if they chose to upgrade us, I don't think I would refuse....i think.....

We are currently booked for rooms 8025 and my friends and their child 8029- but TA and I are hoping to move that to 8065/61 , 8089/91 or 8591/89. I am very nervous about someone in our party getting sea sickness and I have heard being mid ship decreases the chances of that.

TA booked to get us in, but will be watching to see if our rooms can be changed. Am I horrible for wanting that?:confused3

Rogue1230

Guess I'm kinda confused... You had rooms booked, but you wanted them changed, right? But this change to 9111 is the first time the number has changed, and it wasn't at your request?

As she was trying to book the room it would suddenly come up as unavailable after she had started the booking-false availibilty she called it.. This happened 3 times while I was on the phone with her. She finally got a room pairing to stick, 6675/6681 and we completed the resevation. I got the confirm this AM and the room number is now entirely different.

I am fine with it if this is the process, great even if this is how you go about getting an ideal room ( mid deck to alleviate any sea sickness), I am just surprised that this is how it's done.:surfweb:

Is your TA one that is really familiar with booking with DCL? I read a thread on the main board recently that talked a little bit about this issue... if you click on a room in the booking process, it takes it out of inventory.. something about the order in which you try to book it that makes a difference, or something like that. But the part about it changing from yesterday afternoon until this morning... that seems pretty unusual to me.

I don't have the deck plan in front of me... were all those room pairings inside rooms? And how many people are staying in each room? It might be that some of them were available for a party of 2 or 3, but not for a party of 4? Just throwing out possibilities for why there were issues.

We're booked! Myself, dd, and dgs(10) plan on staying on the ship and enjoying it except for Castaway Cay. It will be our 8th cruise. Afterwards we are heading to Universal for a couple of nights and to WDW for 6 nights. Planning on checking out Legoland while we're in Florida too. Count us in for the FE's.

We're still on the fence with the FE exchange. I'm just not sure I want to spend a big chunk of our very first cruise running around trying to find rooms.:confused3 Not sure I posted our room number before but we are in a Cat8D-5178. We are leaning toward not booking any excursions since I'm not sure what the weather will be in December. We will most likely just do a self-guided walking tour of Nassau and maybe a little shopping. Also, I am hoping to talk/browbeat DH into staying at WDW for 3-4 nights after the cruise to enjoy all the holiday stuff.

After seeing some very negative reports on noise issues in the aft Deck 5 staterooms, we decided to change. The DCL site didn't show any availability cheaper than a Cat 5, but our TA found us another 8D on Deck 6. So now we are in room 6674. Hope I don't find out anything bad about that one.:lmao:

Weeelllll, count me out - just too much time/effort/thought required for me... BUT I have gotten the impression that y'all definitely need somebody in charge of heading up the FE thing. It will be his 7th cruise but his 1st 4 nighter. We did a 7 night, TA, PC, Baltic and are doing the repo and the 1st Alaska. He does like sports. We spend most Sat in Auburn with either football or basketball.

Wow, he's very experienced, then! This will just be our 2nd. My DS would love to have somebody besides just DH to play basketball, ping-pong, etc.. with!

They live off Sixes Road. I'm not very familiar with the area, but I know that's their exit and you turn left off the interstate.

We'll be in room 6004 at the very front of the ship, overlooking the bow, so we're practically neighbors! :wave2:

Ooooo, that's something to celebrate! We paid a HUGE chunk of ours last month when our Disney Visa was running a triple-points promotion, but I left enough of a balance that we can use our reward points to pay off the last little bit before the PIF date. I was gonna go ahead and pay it all, if that meant that we could avoid a possible fuel sur-charge, but my TA said that it wouldn't matter one way or the other. And that IF there is a fuel surcharge, it will MOST LIKELY be just for new ressies anyway.

So... we just have a little bit left and we'll be paid off, too! Whoo-hoo!!

My DW, DD(20), and DS(18) will be making our very embarking on our very first Disney Cruise on the Dream Dec 11th! We are traveling with some friends who have two young boys (age 6 and 8) and it will be there first time as well. We are so looking forward to it...

My DW even made a paper chain with one link for each day until we leave -- the thing is WAY too long right now.

We will also being visiting WDW afterward which will be our first visit in about 8 years. We live in the Pacific Northwest so we don't get to FL too often.

Welcome! :welcome: I grew up in the Portland area and still have family in Vancouver and Randle, WA. I sure miss the mountains and waterfalls. My son has boys ages 6, 8 and 10, but they aren't cruising until August 2012. They took their first cruise with us in November 2010 and loved it so much they immediately signed up for another one.

Your paper chain must be draped all over the house, but it will magically shorten day by day, and all of a sudden it will be time to go! The anticipation is so exciting. There are lots of veteran cruisers here so if you have any questions, ask away. If you need a good reference book, I recommend the PassPorter Guide to the Disney Cruise Line. Their 2011 edition should be out in April.

Has anyone thought about extras like Palo's or excursions yet? I think we're thinking of Atlantis is Nassau and that's it.

We did Palo's on the Magic and loved it, but with this short cruise we thought just seeing the regular schedule on this new ship would be enough. Others' thoughts?:confused3

(And I'm not sure the adult dining on Dream is the same name.)

Well... we booked the Palo brunch on our last 4 night but ended up cancelling because it felt like we had such a limited time on the ship - we had a hard time justifying both the additional cost AND the time spent! I had considered looking into Atlantis because I KNOW my kids would LOVE the waterpark there, but it's the same thing. For the amount of money it would cost us, we could do a couple of waterpark trips this summer to places within driving distance from our house, and I know there will be PLENTY on the Dream to keep us all entertained and occupied without doing any excursions.

We are doing good to afford to be on the ship, I guess, and I have a hard time justifying spending extra when I know we will have a fabulous time without the add-ons. I will just live vicariously through the rest of you guys!!

The stingrays are pretty good. You need to do it at least once. Try and go in the morning.

The glass bottom boat at CC gets mixed reviews. We have never done it but know people that have and have seen lots of fish and then others that say that the waters are too murky.

We may get off the ship for awhile at Nassau but do plan on enjoying the ship since this will be our 1st time on the Dream.

lbuher
05-31-2011, 08:02 AM
My kids and my in-laws did the stingray thing the last time we were on CC, and my DS especially liked it.

We also plan to get off at Nassau for a little bit. I am considering the Hilton Beach Resort on our own, but I'm not sure if we want to spend the extra money for that. If we do anything at all in Nassau, it'll either be that or just getting off to walk around a little bit. Unfortunately, I really don't expect at this point for the ship to be empty enough to really enjoy the pool/Aquaduck without crowds. So many people on the main board are saying that they don't plan to get off at Nassau - I'm kinda thinking that everybody has the same mindset! Everybody has been there, done that, and just wants to stay onboard to enjoy the ship! Understandably!

When it gets closer to time, I will probably look for some recent Navigators and talk to everybody in the family about their preferences, and then we'll make a decision. Might also depend on what the weather forecast is looking like at that point!

The Nassau one includes a 30-minute boat ride to Blackbeard's Cay, a small island with a nice sandy white beach that's not nearly as crowded as Castaway Cay. CC's stingray adventure is a more controlled environment and more educational, but we enjoyed both tours.

Haven't yet done the glass bottom boat tour, due to the mixed reviews we've read.

We enjoy renting bikes on CC and pedaling out to the tall observation tower for a nice view of the island with the ship docked off in the distance. There are water faucets conveniently located along the wide level bike pathway.

There is so much to do and see that I betcha you'll be signing up for another cruise before you leave the ship - and they offer a discount when you do that. See everybody real soon! :cool1:

Fellow Dream Cruisers since no one has posted in a few days I thought I would wish everyone an almost happy summer. It is 90 + today in Williamsburg VA and getting hotter!
I wanted to share that the photo of my two dogs like the one on DL1957 is now part of the dachshunds of the month on the Dachshund Club of America website! Pretty neat to have family celeberties!
We are getting close to the 6 month mark:cool1:

Hey All!

Just thought I'd let you know I'll be joining you guys on the Dream for the Dec 11th sailing.

We're in Category 05E - Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, but no idea what room (Currently GTY) .

This is our 2nd Cruise, our first was a 4 day Bahaman on the Wonder a couple of years ago.

Probably going to totally avoid Nassau this time and make use of the near empty ship instead. :)

The Panama Canal one is still going, years later. Check out the Hawaii one! It must be the shorter cruises since there's not as much to plan.

Cruise is paid off. Week at WDW paid off including tickets. Universal room and tickets paid. Just have a couple of misc hotel rooms and Legoland left to pay. Where is everyone staying before the cruise? We're at the Residence Inn.

Hi everyone. I've been checking in to check for new posts but yep it's been quiet. :3dglasses

gydell I'm glad you asked the question. I have no idea where we will be staying before the cruise.

Initally I was planning our park trip pre-cruise but after talking with the DK's and DH I think it would be best to plan the park trip post-cruise so they don't miss 2wks of school.

So now I need to figure out where to stay on Saturday night before the cruise. Any recommendations? How soon in advance do I need to call to make reservations?

After the cruise we plan on checking in at POR-French for a week.:yay:

Don't get me wrong I love kids, but a 6 year old throwing a tantrum while I'm eating isn't my idea of fun. :)

I just scrolled back through all the pages, and it looks like Rich was heading up the FE (see post #s 93 and 100), but it's been months since anything was posted on the thread about it?

We aren't participating in the FE, but I was under the impression that a lot of people like to plan for how many participants there are, what ages, etc.... If you have to wait until you're on the ship to see how many FEs are hanging, how in the world can you plan how much/what "stuff" to bring?

The FE thing sounds fun but it's just too much of a hassle to be involved as we're from the UK.

We either have to buy stuff over here and bring it with us (a real hassle given weight limits and the fact that we like to travel carry on only) or buy the stuff in the US which means losing valuable Disney time.

Hope you guys have fun though. Wish I could play too, found some great extenders on eBay... :)

I mean, I'm assuming that if you get an early port arrival time then it will translate into an earlier boarding number... just didn't know you could actually get one before you get to the terminal?

You get an arrival time which means the earlier the arrival time the lower the boarding pass since they hand the numbers out as you enter the terminal. The other thing is that if you are on the busses from MCO before this time you get lower boarding numbers.

That is when we can make our ressies if we are paid in full.

Thanks!

I'm not paid in full yet. Does that determine when you can check in and make ressies?

I don't plan on making any ressies except maybe an Atlantis excursion. Would something like that be sold out?

this is our first time out of PC since 2005 when we did the Panama Canal sailing. Do you know what type of boarding pass you get if you are at the resort? Is it like when we where in Europe and could check in and get our KTW card before boarding day. thanks for the information. Sue

You do have to be pd in full before you can book ressies. I don't know about Atlantis.

I know that you can still check in at the resort but I don't know anything else.

You have to be paid in full, but when you can you check in/make ressies also depends on whether or not you are a first time cruise (75 days out), silver (90 days out) or gold/platinum. I would think the likelihood of an Atlantis excursion being sold out would be less during the winter months, and even if it DOES happen to be sold out when you try to make ressies, you can keep checking (folks do cancel) or try once you are onboard.

Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2 I am completely clueless and I've been all over the boards gathering information.

I have to pay in full by Sept. 27 so I'll probably pay up by the end of this month. It's my first cruise and 75 days out will be some time in October for me.

Once I'm paid in full do they send instructions on how to check in?

Actually I think Sept 27 is your 75 days out? I don't remember getting any sort of instructions last time about how to check in, but it's a relatively simple process on the website.

If you look at your ressie online you will see the date at the top of the page. On that day(12am est or later) you go to your cruise plans and you will see where you can make ressies for everything.

Go to your reservation at DisneyCruiseLine.com and click on Online Check-in (left side of page). Scroll down and you can watch a little instructional cartoon video showing Goofy checking in for his cruise. They show him actually choosing a check-in time. Not sure you can still do that, though.

It can be anytime between now and check in at the port. Last time I didn't have one it was about 2 weeks before.

Is your reservation just for a certain category of room? We have a specific room assignment. Do you get a discount for just selecting a category and letting DCL place you in whatever room in that category that might be availale?

Yes just for a category. No discount, same price as normal.

Yup, as you're guarenteed a place on the ship in at least the category you paid for there is no discount.

The only 'bonus' for being GTY if you can call it a bonus is that if the cat you are in is at capacity and you haven't been allocated a stateroom number you can be bumped to a better category.

As the DCL website says , you have a guarenteed room, but if there are no rooms left in your category you will be bumped to a better one.

At least that's how I think it works.

Has anyone in this group been on DCL during the Christmas holiday time frame and can share all the extras that go on.
So far I have heard you can go to GS and sign up for the gingerbread house making and that there is a special tree lighting where a child spreads pixie dust and the tree lights up. Anything else that someone can share for us first timers during December? :confused3 Sue

You can make a gingerbread house but you can't take it off the ship. The 1st night a child is picked to do the lighting of the tree. I was disappointed in the decorations. There were not as many as I had thought there would be. My friends that were with me laughed and said our houses were decorated more than the ship was.:confused3

That's right - I just read it in my new PassPorter Guide to the Disney Cruise Line that came in the mail yesterday. Fell asleep last night reading about the amenities on the Dream. I'm looking forward to reading about the Alaska shore excursions, as we want to do that cruise next year.

We loved the train trip in Skagway & the tram and ziplining in Juneau.

We decorated GBH's on our Christmas cruise two years ago, and it was so much fun to see how creative the 'little people' are! You have to sign up at GS for a 'time block' and the bonus is there is NO extra cost for this! Oh, and you can most definiely take it back to your cabin! :woohoo:

This will be our second DC during the Christmas Holiday season. :confused3 IMHO I think they did a fairly decent job with the decorations, classy and definitely not overkill. Besides the GB decorating and the tree lighting, there are several opportunities to hear Mrs. Claus retell 'The Christmas Story' in the main lobby. We saw carolers on several different occaisions during our four night cruise, and even got to join in the fun singing along.

Also, Castaway Cay is turned into a 'Winter Wonderland' -- totally decked out for the season! We found great photo opportunities with the Christmas tree and life size 'presents' as well as holiday themed crafts for the kids, and special 'reindeer games' for them as well. :santa:

Would you guys that are gold please post back here about what port arrival time you get? Are you going to try to get the earliest one at 11:00?

First, when you arrive at the terminal you'll have a small check in point. Make sure you have your ID handy, and they will check you off as officially 'arriving'. After dropping off your bags to the porter and parking your car (you can leave your family at the curb to wait for you) you'll go inside the the actual terminal, head through security and then proceed upstairs to the check in desk, this is where you will receive your boarding number, i.e. boarding 'order'. :woohoo:

We're in Tampa, which is about a good hour and fourty from PC and we have always (this will be our 6th DC) left around 7am. HOWEVER, this was when you were able to arrive at the terminal at 10. Previously we would grab a quick breakfast in town and then head over closer to the port. :car:

However, it is my understanding that the gates for cars to enter Disney's terminal now open at 11 AM, where previous it was 10 o'clock -- can someone clarify this for me? :confused3

Haven't decided if we'll adjust our timing for this cruise yet ... ...
