Monday 16 August

It appeared to have rained right through the night. It was still raining in the morning. We got up just after 6 (I know, I know, we’re supposed to be on holiday, right?) and we were having breakfast in the Parkside Diner at 7. The breakfast was lovely and we didn’t rush at all as we guessed the Park would be quiet once again. We didn’t leave the hotel until about 8.30

D and I decided that on our feet we would just wear Crocs as there seemed no point in getting our shoes soaking wet. I had given in and bought a Disney poncho as my raincoat just wasn’t up to the job of keeping out The Great Rain. Here we are on summer holiday....

It was quiet enough for us to do Buzz twice and then Space Mountain. We decided to go over to Studios.

We got FPs for TOT then went on the Tram Tour as H hasn’t done this for a few years. There seemed to be a couple of differences to me – in Catastrophe Canyon things had been tweaked a bit it seemed and there was less dragon breath on the Reign of Fire set.

We went to RnR Coaster after this then it was time for the TOT FPs.

Next we went for the second day of preview in TSPL. This time Slinky was working – yay! I have a new ride – it’s mild enough even for the big yellow chicken that I am.

Slinky looks so sweet as he zooms round and round with his ears flying out at the side, occasionally yapping as he tries to catch his own tail. I went on 3 times.

D and H went on RC Racer 3 times but H declared that was enough for one day – even though they could have just kept going as there was no queue. He was worried that his breakfast was going to make a reappearance.

There were CMs huddled under umbrellas surveying guests about what they thought of RC Racer. D and H gave it a definite thumbs up. I wanted to take lots more photos but I was worried about getting my camera wet, so I only took them from one spot – under the CMs huge umbrella. Sounds like a weird version of a Rhianna song.

There were far fewer people around than on the Sunday. As you have probably read, the concept of TSPL is that you are the size of a toy, in Andys back garden - there are a number of Andy's 'sneaker prints' around set in the concrete

This is the closest you will get me to RC Racer!

To leave TSPL you have to go through a huge blue bridge (supposedly a barrel half submerged in the garden – here Woody and Jessie were lurking out of the rain, looking quite glad to have someone to interact with.

This Buzz must be sensor activated, as each time you go near him he starts to talk.

We left TSPL and had to pass the queue of people being turned away as it was AP holders only. Lots of glares being directed at us then.

We went back through the Village, stopping off to get take out from Annette’s – 2 rock n roll burgers and chips were only €15.30 (€17 before discount), H had decided he wasn’t hungry but he managed to polish off what D and I couldn’t finish. I had to hold the take-out under my poncho and hurry back to the room to stop the bag getting saturated – very elegant.

We spent the afternoon either reading, dozing or swimming as the fancy took us.

Just before 6 we set out through the rain to Buffalo Bills.

There was a chap on stage before the band who had a good line in corny banter. With a very strong American accent he asked if anyone was from Liverpool – there were a few people who called out. He mentioned the football team. After a few minutes of him deliberately misunderstanding, he revealed he was from Liverpool in the US where they have a good American football team. Groans all round.

Next the band came on (everybody sing now “Y’all come!”) then it was time to take our seats in the arena. The show is enormous fun, even if you have already seen it. The food was good and filling as well. Our rodeo team didn’t win but we still had a great time.

An amazing thing happened on the way out – we were standing by the exit putting on our many layers of waterproof clothing, as was everyone else, when a young voice piped up “it’s stopped raining”. I am sorry to say that the reaction to this from just about everybody was to say “don’t be silly, it can’t have”. But the young lad was telling the truth. There was a collective cheer from all of us standing by that exit. We had made it through the rain, as Barry Manilow so often sang. My only regret was that I hadn’t invested in shares of the company that makes those Disney ponchos and the Mickey Mouse wellies. I would now be worth a million pounds at least.

(Really off topic here, but I am glad I proof read that last paragraph as I didn’t type Mickey WELLIES at first. I swapped that first E with an I by mistake)

We went into the Park and went for a ride on POTC followed by a ride on Indiana. This was when we realised there was some scaffolding around the bridges so we had to take a longer route by Hakuna Matata. The floors were still very wet and we saw one man slip and land full length on the floor – very wet and very painful it looked too.

We walked round by the Castle

and into Fantasyland where we went on Snow White - there was noone behind or in front of us, so I sneaked a quick picture (yes, naughty using flash, I know) because I thought this was probably what our house was looking like, with our son being at home alone. :rotfl:

We rode IASW then decided to split for the last hour and a bit. H wasn’t bothered about seeing Fantillusion but D and I wanted to get good seats so we sat on the benches in the Castle theatre stage and waited there (being well entertained by the CM who was manning the rope there. He kept singing into his little flash light thing and striking weird martial arts poses.)

Meanwhile H went off and (as we later learned) went on Phantom Manor and then BTM 4 times in a row! On his last ride there were CMs on the ride as well. I imagine they are looking forward to actually getting a ride all through their shift.

Just looking at these photos has the music from Fantillusion running through my head..

After Fantillusion we moved in front of the Castle and had a great view of the fireworks. I know these are highly rated amongst Disney fans but I enjoy them, H was only about 20 foot behind us, having finished his last ride with just enough time to come out on Central Plaza to watch. He could have had a 5th ride on BTM but saw the fireworks instead.

We left the Park and went back to the New York City Bar, where H had a coffee, D had a hot choc and I had a hot choc too – with a Baileys in it.

Then it was time for bed. For us and the plushes.
