checking in between reno work and packing. Can't stay long.
I hate plumbing...
I think we have settled on a house - or at least of all the ones we have seen within our price range this one seems to be the best.
So now the real decision is if we sit and wait to see if anything better comes along or dive in on this one.
Does having a politician live 2 doors done increase or decrease the value of the house?

Hi everyone :yay:
I'll have to get caught up tomorrow. I worked late and have to get up early for golf tomorrow...wish me luck...I think this is just the second time I've ever played, and it's been a few years since the first  Hopefully I'll still be able to move when the day is over

so???? House 1, 2 or 3? Come on... I need to go and see so I can let you know... Sauna or no Sauna...
I think it was house #3. No sauna. No hot tub. But it has 2.5 baths. And the main bath has 2 sinks so Shannon likes that for the girls.
And it has a vaulted ceiling in the living room - perfectly suited for a big Christmas tree.
But I will have to move the patio stones where they have the BBQ right now. But I could leave the stones in and expand them so it can fit a hot tub...

That's all that survived my garden this year... ohhh and 1 red pepper and basil... I have to start to miracle gro earlier and get the electric fence up earlier so the big fat bunny wabbit doesn't get into the garden...

Ken...
While you are reconstructing...
I figured I'd give you the list of upgrades/repairs I must make to the townhouse according to the board of directors... (that's the last time I run for the board...:rotfl:)
(and Kaz is going to say... "NO PROB.. you should be at MY house... :rotfl2:")
(btw... I knew of most of these...)
Replace driveway
repaint all the trim
replace the roof
replace the garage door
fix the light in front of the house
I also need to....
Fix and powerwash the deck
install a planter around the light in the front (so I can finally put pretty flowers in...)
Get rid of the crab grass that insists on living in my front yard no matter WHAT I put down to kill it.
install screens in 4 of the windows (2 currently have A/C's in them...)
They want me to take the a/c out of MY window, but I've threatened to sue every time I get a hot flash... :sad2:
install ceiling fans in all bedrooms
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& If there is any time left (and money...) I'd like to gut the kitchen and my bathroom... and put a Bay window in the living room. Fix up my office...
Other than that... it's a really nice house...
Ohhhh and paint... FINALLY get the paint samples off the walls and actually put some color on them!!
Just a few ideas...

Hi folks!
I'm checking in
It was a rough day of bathroom reno's, but the old toilet & shower are out, and the rotten gyprock is down, and I've officially put up my first wall of gyprock and got it mudded. Tomorrow will be a busy day.
And as Ken already posted, we've mostly decided on the house we want, but haven't put an offer in yet. And yes, Michelle, you read correctly its 5 bedrooms, 3 upstairs and 2 downstairs. The 2 downstairs would end being the toy room and the craft room :thumbsup2
Time to head off to bed.

We will be at OKW from 10/9-10/24....with a mini retreat for Scott and I to BLT 10/12-10/14! (My mom and dad will be with us for the first week, so we get to sneak away and leave the girls with them).
Count us in for Hawaii...hoping to buy some points there when we go in October!
Hope everyone is doing well!
Michelle....if you promise not to laugh at my appearance (I am having another flair up with Bell's Palsy) I will give you details of our trip :) ...you will be there, right? It might not be much more than hanging in a hotel room, but would be fun to say hi!

Hi Friends....it was a very painful day for me yesterday and Uncle Teddy is in ICU today. So things are not going all that great.
Just wanted to check in at our new home. Thanks Michelle.
In October, we're staying off property at Staybridge Suites near downtown Disney both before and after our cruises.
Is anyone besides me and John and Lisa and Darrell doing the Food and Wine on the 17th?
I'm excited about the news for Hawaii. Marilyn, Lisa and Darrell were just there twice for work and they both loved it. They are not beach people and they found lots to do. You should check with Lisa.
It's near the end of Summer and October is right around the corner. I'm so happy. I need this nice long wonderful vacation. January's short, cold, getting sick time off....really didn't feel like vacation. I need long and warm and well time off....that's vacation.

Vicki, John and Kaylee, nice to see you posting again!
I had an excellent day today! It looked like rain this morning but cleared and turned out to be a beautiful warm and sunny day! I had so much fun golfing :thumbsup2 We had a fun group of people, we played best ball and it still took us 5 hrs to get through 18 holes of golf though  I haven't had this many laughs all in one day for a long time. It felt good :goodvibes Of course I played horribly! I did have best ball three times over the course of the day though! We sat out on the patio when we were finished and had drinks and soaked up the sun. Then we were served a BBQ dinner of steaks and salads. Finished off the night by spending a few hours at a friend's house out in her yard, where she has a lovely pond. It was so relaxing after a busy day.

Hi all!
Sounds a fab fun day, Kathe!!! http://bestsmileys.com/sports2/3.gif

Deb - sorry to hear about the pain. Just a month and a half until we see you guys :cool1:
And yep - we loved Hawaii and I never went in the ocean on either trip :lmao:
That is a pain as it is always a bigger pain to actually book onboard! OK, I know you get the onboard thingies, but all the waiting around.
Lets hope they give a little longer to think about things after the announcement before booking commences.
I agree about the pain of booking onboard - I think last time we just did the - drop the request in the box and then had them send us the info to the cabin so no actual face time with the desk.

Yes, we have dropped the request in the box, but don't you still have to see her to book?

What did they say about your leg Deb?
I will certainly be looking into Hawaii if DCL do actually go, but I also fancy the Eastern Med, and that would be cheaper for us.
The leg is the leg. The infection is gone, but it still keeps weeping and it's very painful. When I go for a doctor visit, the nurse scrubs the surface clean for the doc to get a good look. When they touch it I scream, much less scrub it. I only take half a vicodin and it's not enough. I don't like taking any more, it makes me sick. Then it hurts for 3 to 4 days after the appointment and I try not to take any more pain meds, but sometimes I do. The doctor told me I should get aggressive with it and keep soaking it in chlorine. I came home and soaked it right away and really screamed with pain. So I didn't soak it yesterday. I have to do it today. I dread it because it hurts still. The chlorine cleans it up nicely, but it doesn't seem to make a difference with the weeping.....so I don't know. I have a feeling that it's got a mind of it's own and it's going to do what it wants when it wants and there's not much we can do to change that. This time it's over a year since it has gone away completely. Then even when it does, I know it will only come back again. It's a good think I like this doctor because I have a feeling that he's going to be in my future for a very long time.

It's so strange the things you do when you're scared of losing a loved one. I paniced yesterday. I called my cousin at work. He's an xray tech in Bradenton Florida. He asked me to please text. They have him on a respirator.

I walked 4.2 miles last night w/ Will & Mickey. I'm a tad bit sore today but happy about it.
We met at the bus depot near the parking lot at the Ft Wilderness campground. It's 1.1 mile from there to the Settlement (where we stopped, used the facilities & got some water) before heading over to the Ft Wilderness Resort (1 mile). Stopped there for a few moments (Mickey needed to show his ID at the front desk) then headed back. I wasn't sure I'd make it, but I did :woohoo:
My friend Marlene (who is doing the Alaska cruise w/ me) will be walking w/ me either tomorrow or Saturday. I'm going to Epcot Saturday to say HI to Emily, Jason & her parents who are doing the pin trading event at the World Showplace. Figure I will walk around the lagoon atleast 1 time (1.1 miles if I remember correctly).

Psychiatric appt. today. Last one was almost 3 months ago. Instead of monthly, he started spreading them out since things have been stable. Reduced dose of one med last time and he said he's hoping to eliminate one dose completely at today's appointment. I think that would be good. Although there are still problems with aggression and physical stuff (last week he threw a chair at a child and tried to push over a tall cabinet onto a teacher), things did not get worse when we reduced the med last 2 times, which is GREAT! Anything left is really stuff he needs to work on learning controlling himself (which is what he's working on with the psychologist weekly), so I feel comfortable reducing the dose again. :goodvibes PLUS, he's going back to school in less 2 weeks, where he's comfortable and feels secure, so he should be fine. :goodvibes

Thanks Deb - I'm down almost 11 lbs....must keep it going. Talked my sister out of the 1/2 marathon in February and into the 5k - I KNOW I can do the 5k - maybe the 1/2 in 2012.

Forgot to post - re: Hawaii
I'm in for the cruise - I've been on Oahu & would love to see the other islands w/o having to do the puddle-jumpers in between. Plus I want those sea days. I'd go in May.
I would love to do this in May as well :cool1:
I wouldn't rule out Sept, but it is easier for me to take time off in May, and after what is usually a long cold winter I do really enjoy having something in the spring to look forward to :thumbsup2

Psyhiatric appt. :goodvibes
Holly, I'm glad that things are stabilizing and that you can now look at reducing the meds :thumbsup2 Is Tyler excited then about going back to school?

A resort might be the easiest, at least to get room for all of us. We're staying at Old Key West on this trip.
I've haven't been very engaged in what's been going on since honestly nearly all of my energy is spent just trying to get through each day at work and coping with the stress.

Things certainly sound to be improving Holly.
I told the doctor today that I've only been called at work to pick Tyler up early TWICE this summer, as compared to at least once a week last summer. It certainly helps that he's in a better environment, because they have so many more options for him when things aren't going well, since there are so many more adults and different activities. Tyler asked me today if he can do the YMCA for summer vacation next year too. :thumbsup2 This week is so fun for him, they go to the bowling alley EVERY DAY, before lunch, come back to the Y for lunch, then they're taken by bus to a park for a while, then they come back to swim in the pool the rest of the day. Next week instead of bowling, he'll be going to an IMAX theater EVERY DAY! :goodvibes Last week was cooking every day and learning about healthy snacks and healthy food choices.
Anyway, the psych told us today he doesn't want to cut the dosage on one med right now when school is about to start. Scheduled us to return in October, but if things are going well in a month, we are to call him and he'll give us the OK to cut the dose then, which will just be eliminating 1 of the 2 doses of one med. He told Tyler that it's all up to him this time (because he knows Tyler wants to keep decreasing meds).

Holly, I'm glad that things are stabilizing and that you can now look at reducing the meds :thumbsup2 Is Tyler excited then about going back to school?
No, he's not looking forward to it. He's a nervous wreck. Although I say he's comfortable and secure there, I mean relative to a daycare setting. In his classroom, he can have the outbursts and explosions and know he's not going to be made fun of or get in trouble. They expect it and are prepared for it, there's a padded room (literally) with shatterproof glass and a steel door, the kids go in there and rage, then return to their desk and can move on and continue with their day. But school is not a fun place for him because of how he struggles academically. Even though he's had such major improvements academically, he knows he's way behind his friends and other kids his age, so it really bothers him, and he'll keep trying until he's overwhelmed and frustrated and angry. It's exhausting for him.
BUT.....we were shopping today and he found some gifts he wants to bring for his teacher (who he loves to death, and he's her favorite), and he wrote the alphabet (both uppercase and lowercase) and a couple math problems because he wants her to see how well he's doing. ;) Such a cutie pie!
AND.....we went to a whole bunch of stores until he picked out the perfect outfit for his first day back (knowing we can't get it until payday, but he's fine with that). This outfit includes a hat, sort of what I think looks like an old fashioned gangster hat, LOL! :lmao:

So I picked up some flyers when I picked Tyler up from the Y a couple days ago and have decided on payday I'm signing up for some exercise classes. I'm motivated by Monica's walking! :thumbsup2 I know I should start with just one, but I'm afraid if I do that, I'll get lazy the other 6 days of the week and end up not wanting to go back to class the next week. So starting Sept. 7 I'll have Beginning Belly Dancing on Monday evenings, Women on Weights Tues & Thurs evenings, and Zumba Saturdays at noon. I told Tyler he's stuck coming with me 4 days a week, but he said "That's OK, I want you to get healthy, I'll just swim in the pool while you do that". :thumbsup2 He's trying to steer me away from donuts too. :rotfl2: That's an impossible job. I told him I wanted to stop for a donut one day recently, and he told me he's made a deal with himself that he's not going to have any donuts for 3 years and wants me to join him. He's completely lost his mind. :headache:

They expect it and are prepared for it, there's a padded room (literally) with shatterproof glass and a steel door, the kids go in there and rage, then return to their desk and can move on and continue with their day. But school is not a fun place for him because of how he struggles academically. Even though he's had such major improvements academically, he knows he's way behind his friends and other kids his age, so it really bothers him, and he'll keep trying until he's overwhelmed and frustrated and angry. It's exhausting for him.
One of our grandsons is struggling, and the worst thing is seeing him know he is so behind everyone. He makes comments about being stupid etc. Though the school is really good, they kept ignoring his mum's concerns until they started looking at his younger sisters. He is worse than them.:confused3 Anyway they did test him and he has dyslexia, which his parent's thought, but he could have been having help for much longer and his confidence might have been better.

Turf club doesn't seem to have much for Sukie to eat...
How about Portobello at DTD? Or Wolfgang Puck Express? Or there is that room at Capt. Jacks...
There's food for Sukie at Saratoga Springs. Captain Jack's has absolutely nothing he would eat, we've checked it out before.
You can mention the pumpkin ravioli from Wolfgang Puck to Sukie. I promised to help you get up off the ground after he knocks you down.

Good Morning Marilyn, no actually it's not good this morning. I'm considering taking a pain pill, but I'm trying not too. I'll see how long I can tolerate it or if it subsides.

If I were you I would take the pain pill Deb. If you don't and then if it gets worse it takes longer for the painkillers to work.
I'm doing ok thanks. Didn't have a good weekend, but had 2 decent days. Not too good today though. At least the pain meds do work, but it does take 1 and half hours to really feel comfortable and I think that is a looooong time!!
I'm going to have to be really careful what I eat on the cruise though this time, and that isn't what cruises are for is it?:lmao: Can't be airlifted in the middle of the Atlantic.
When I get back I will go to the doctors unless I am much better. That puts the next vacation in jeopardy though, and we have to pay in a few weeks, plus get flights. Don't know what to do.

It is amazing how you can get on with life with a background of pain I agree. I think there are many many people out there doing just that. There happens to be a lady on our TA cruise with chronic pancreatitis. She is on morphine all the time and does have to pace herself. Occasionally it flares up worse and she has to go to bed for a few days, but otherwise I think she does get out and about, and has already done a DCL Med cruise this year. She can't get insurance though, so she is playing with fire as imagine what a stay in a US hospital could cost her, particularly if she has to go in ICU or even just have serious care and medication etc!!!:scared1:
Hey, well tried about the cruises!!! I think we might be on Crete with friends at their place at that time. Looks like a busy year for us in Europe. Hopefully will be booking France for early June too.

The venue that springs to mind it the restaurant at Saratoga Springs. It's looked quite room to me and they have a very large outdoor patio, one of the only restaurants in WDW that does have one, aside from Olivia's at Old Key West.
It also has never looked all that busy, which is important because they are going to want to usher us out at a busy place to free up tables.
Thanks for the kind thoughts. I just keep focusing on the thought that "this too shall end," and eventually I'll move on, or just have to slap the crap out of them!
I vote for slapping the crap out of them, at least that would be fun! ;)
Out of a park would be best for us.
Sorry things still aren't good work wise for you Ian.
I do think the Turf Club is bigger than Olivias, and if the weather is good then the patio would be lovely!!!
Ian I think you should do both, slap the crap out of them, then move on ;)

Hi Gydell! aan1701.....it's supposed to be alan1701, but he missed the L and didn't realize it till he had finished setting up his account and didn't want to waste his time to fix it. And sorry Marilyn, the only time he's helpful is when it has to to with SouthWest airlines, other than that he thinks himself quite special! I'm quite shocked your coming to his defense, as he really used to get your dander up too, as we say here in the states.;)

He is so funny. He grew vegetables to sell. Then he got some tropical fish, but they started having babies, so he made a website to sell them, and also did sponsor a fish, so much a month!!!:rotfl2: Now he wants some hens.:scared1:
They had a day in London when they were on vacation last week, and he said that is where he is going to have his business!!
Wow! Well, he's got the right mindset going, such dedication! :thumbsup2

Uggghhh......I've been trying to reach my mom for a month, and finally got hold of her. She doesn't have long distance, so she doesn't call me. She only gets online about once a month, so emails aren't a good way to contact her either. I've been trying to call her, but her phone was acting up. She told me in an email that when she answers the phone, she can hear the person calling, but whoever is calling can't hear her. I told her she's probably accidentally pushing the "mute" button or something strange. She emailed me to tell me that somehow she figured out that if she uses speakerphone, that works, so I called her. She was complaining about the damn the phone not working, so I told her to get a new one. "Oh no, can't do that, it's only 4 years old, so there should NOT be anything wrong with it." I told her 4 years is a long life for a phone and she about went through the roof because her last phone before this one was bought in 1991 and worked up until 4 years ago. Good grief! She certainly acts like she's 90 instead of 60. That woman is NUTSO!!!!! :rotfl2:

Good Morning Friends.....I spent the weekend on Long Island visiting Uncle Teddy in the hospital. He's doing ok. He's out of the ICU and into a standard room. Hopefully, he will go home today. So that's good news. Thanks for all your well wishes.
In three more days Casey and his girlfriend Brittany are coming for a visit. It started out as a trip up north for Casey to visit family and his girlfriend has turned it into a trip up north for her to visit NYC. They extended their visit by one day. We're doing Long Island one day, PA one day and now NYC one day. That's recently added. Casey was only going to do LI and PA to see relatives. Brittany has added a day of them doing NYC. I'm not going with them to do that. They have a million places they want to see and I just can't and won't go running all over Manhattan anymore. I told them that I've done it a zillion times, you go and have fun. They're clueless how much everything is going to cost, but they'll find out. They don't have the budget for it. This should be enlightening. Also, they have no idea where they're going so they will get lost. I hope they don't look so obvious and get mugged.
I'm a little upset that all the plans changed four days before they were due to arrive....with the focus on her wants not his. But he's paying. This should be a lot of fun. Casey is henpecked already.

Jumping on to say a quick hello!
Life has been busy.
I started my new job yesterday. It was not a good first day. I got my HR paperwork done, did a safety orientation and was sent home because my new boss was sick and there was nobody available to train me. But that was okay to get paid for a full day and only work for 2. Ended up working out really well, as I went and met with the realtor and got the paperwork done to put an offer on a house. It was accepted, so now we just have to get the home inspection done, and if its all good, we'll be moved into the new house by mid-October at the latest! :)
Today was day 2 at work, and I actually was very busy learning and doing stuff. So far, I'm enjoying it :)
Hope everybody is doing well. I won't be able to read much and get caught up, as tomorrow is family dinner at Ken's dads. Ken's grandparents are in town for his sisters wedding on Saturday. Ken's mom arrives tomorrow, and his aunt &family arrive the next day. Its going to be a busy few days, but hopefully it'll be good weather on Sat for the outdoor wedding.

So Earl is coming. He's currently a category 3 hurricane expected to hit the Carolina coastline on Friday. Casey and his girlfriend, Brittany, are supposed to be driving up here from Virginia on Thursday. That's cutting it a little too close for me and his mom. The hurricane is 125 mile an hour winds and it's 90 miles in radius. Even if it never hits land, he's going to be driving in strong winds and heavy rain the whole entire drive. That's dangerous. He thinks he can outrun it because it's not due until Friday and he's leaving on Thursday. Me and his mom still think he's cutting it close. Better to be safe than sorry. But him and Brittany are young and think they are right and invincable and they're both 18 so they're coming. I'm terrified for them and so is Casey's mom. I'm not sure what Brittany's parents are saying. Am I wrong? Am I crazy for worrying? Me and Jane, Casey's mom, both tried to talk him and Brittany out of coming, but they are stubborn and swear that they will be fine. I know Casey gets the stubborn trait from my mother because I do too.

I'm watching the weather channel. I hope he doesn't come. He said he'll decide tomorrow. He thinks he'll be fine though.
Since that chat, there has been a new development. He has been fighting with his mom so he's 18 (for two weeks now) so he's ready to move out. Ugh. He's moving his turtles (my turtles) to a friend's temporarily. I'm extremely upset about this. I don't think I want my turtles out there somewhere that I'm not sure of where they are. I'm sure he will do just fine. I'm not so sure about the turtles. Should I be an indian giver and take them back? He's moving in with a friend until he can move out on his own. Then he'll take the turtles back. That could be a while. I should get them shouldn't I? At least for now. I worry about them being cared for properly.

Deb, if you are going to worry, and it looks like you will will, then there is only one thing to do, and that is to take them to look after. A shame though. Aren't families a problem at times.:confused3

I think you're right Marilyn. I need to know where they are and if I don't then I need to have them here until Casey can take them back. Thanks that helps.

If he's moving out it looks like he might think it's ok to neglect schoolwork. I have to honor our initial agreement with his mom. It's looking good for you Michelle and Monica. He starts school September 7th.

Mmmm, I am sure I will be reminded of the Geico when we are back in October!!! Some TV adverts are so annoying. We have Go Compare for our most annoying advert.:headache::headache::headache:

 Hi everybody! I'm missing being up-to-date, but I will get there again when life calms down.
All sounds good Shannon! Busy times for you! :thumbsup2

We'll be charged a change fee....based on current rates....because we'll be less than 30 days. Oh well!! Rules are rules!

NO...the 'name change fee' is a SET rate. You are NOT cancelling a person then later adding one...that would be the sceanerio that would incur higher costs. If/when you do it only refer to it as a 'name change'.
