What should I request to avoid getting the "people pens" in a Savannah view? If I were to request the "Inner Circle", would that be a reasonable way to word it?
The 2 biggest things on my wish are to get the best possible Savannah view and a no-smoking room.
Additionally, I would like a King bed, but I wasn't sure if making 3-4 request would hurt my hopes on getting my important requests. I am going late Sept., so I didn't know if that would affect my ability to get my choice of rooms?
The requests I was going to make are:
Inner Circle
No Smoking
King Beds
Not on the first floor.
In that order. Is that just too much to ask?

We had room 4262....4th floor, away from most foot traffic. King bed. Non-smoking. Away from the Boma's, (people pens). Kudu trail, Sunset Savannah. This was a great room in a fantastic location. You can have some long walks to your room at AKL, this one was fairly close to the lobby and elevator.

Jus so you know...the first floor is actually the second floor as you are one floor up from the animals. And the second floor gives you the most amazing view of the animals. You are right there with them. Maybe 35 feet (at an angle). The lower floors are my favorite.

Thanks for the Info, the reason I was requesting not on the first floor, was I heard several people say that on the first floor, due to all the plants, you couldn't see much. Is this not true? Personally, I think the lower the better if that's the case.

Not true at all. You are angled above the animals without being too high. You can hear them chewing you are so close, but you are still one floor off the ground. The second floor I think gives you the very best view.

I've stayed at the AKL 3 times now - once in concierge and twice in a regular savannah view room. Each time requested (on reservation and again with a polite faxed letter before check-in) a non-smoking room on Zebra Trail overlooking Arusha Savannah (this is the inner circle, "main" savannah). Got the concierge room I wanted the 2nd day of our stay (none with bunkbeds available the day we checked in). Other trips I asked politely at check in if the room location I wanted was available instead of what I was assigned - and I was able to get rooms I was satisfied with - 2nd floor Kudu trail overlooking Arusha Savannah on one visit, and 2nd floor Zebra Trail overlooking Arusha on the other (both great locations, although Zebra Trail is a little closer to Mara and pool than Kudu Trail).
So if you don't get the room you want, ask at check in if it's available! ;)

Thank you so much for the info. It will definately simplify my request, Arusha Savanahh and Non-smoking. Hopefully that would be a lock since it is in the offseason! I can't wait. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :earsboy: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

They are fenced off areas for guest to flee to in case of fire.

Well, I learned something new tonight. I had read about the fenced in areas but never thought about them as "People Pens" . I guess looking at the empty chain link would not be so attractive.
We too are staying at AKL this year and wonder about the noise level from the restaurants in the second floor rooms.
I guess if you dont mind walking to the outter rooms you can avoid this.
