Hi all!
Like many others, I'd love to give back in return for all the great tips I received on this board. We just returned from 6 nights at PO-FQ last night. I loved our stay here. We checked in at around 4pm on Sun. There was a 5 min. wait and the CMs were super helpful and patient with our questions. We got our room request except for bldg #. We got 2nd floor non-smoking connecting rooms in bldg. 4. 4242 and 4241. Both doubles (4242 is a corner room with 2 windows). We were on "Rue d'Baga" facing the courtyard between bldg. 5 and 6. Very short walk to food court and buses, pool and laundry, as well as parking for the car. Much quieter than 1st floor. Also, ice was right nearby. I can't complain about our room location. My only complaint was I did think the hot water supply was barely acceptable. I never had what I consider a hot shower (any time of day). There were sporadic times of heat followed by cool or luke warm. Still, it got the job done.
The CM's were all great here. Very helpful bell staff, gift shop folks, and front desk staff. Also the phone operators were obsessive about saying "Have a magical day!" always. We did get Stitch wake-up calls, but they were hit and miss. Sometimes, no character at all. Apparently there were technical difficulties.
The pool bartender, John, was excellent. He remembered our names everytime after our first visit. Also, I can't tell you how great the housekeeper was. Always more soap, shampoo and towels than we could use. Our room was always ready when we came from the parks. She did wake us one morning, but was very apologetic and nice. We got the ironing board and iron within 15 min. after calling for it.
The laundry area was good for a laundromat. $2 each for a wash or dry cycle. I had no problem getting a machine at 4:30 on a Thurs. I took a mesh laundry bag and that worked nicely.
The food court layout is much improved (see my dining review on restaurant board), but the choices seem the same. We enjoyed everything we ate here. Get the mugs, they pay for themselves easily in 4-5 days.
The pool was great, busy but never packed. The hot tub was hot, but the jets didn't work. Still good for soaking my feet. One night they did close the pool because the sidewalk lights were not working. Don't know how long, but eventually the got them working and reopened it.
A note about mosquitos: I have never had bug problems at Disney. We arrived and there was a nice letter in the room explaining that they spray nightly for mosquitos in WDW, but that the Florida Health Dept (I think) requires that you be acknowledged of risk for West Nile virus. It was lengthy and informative and very polite, without diminishing the seriousness of the issue. However, never having had a bug problem there, and not having a compromised immune system, as well as knowing of the spray, we promptly ignored the issue altogether. Mistake. We encountered mosquitos all over WDW. Take your Cutter's and use it, esp. at night! We were bitten many times, but no one got sick. Just itchy!!!
As for transportation, that met or exceeded our expectations. I was prepared for the worst and armed with estimations of travel times from laughingplace.com. That came in handy, but I must say we had no bus problems. We did rely on our car quite a lot to go between resorts for dining. Bus service to DTD and the parks was efficient, if not speedy. We never waited for a bus for longer than maybe 15 min. We were first on and first off. We did share with Riverside except for the MK bus. Do keep in mind that all AK buses go to Blizzard Beach from the resort. Also, returning from DTD there is a Typhoon Lagoon stop. The DTD loop was always slow, but better than the BW - DTD loop, which was a nightmare in 1999. Most of the time the buses weren't crowded. Only people standing on isolated occasions. My advice is know ahead of time how long the route takes and plan accordingly. Maybe we were satisfied because we were knowledgeable and never tried to rush it. Our bus drivers were mostly very safe and courteous, too. Only one seemed annoyed. (Also an improvement over our 1999 BWV experience).
We tried to use the boat to DTD on Wed. night but were unsuccessful. Either it was running, but the times weren't posted, or it was closed due to rain earlier in the evening. We took the bus instead. We did notice the boats running the next day quite frequently.

I think that covers all the bases. Please ask if you have questions! And thanks to everyone for helping us plan a great trip!

Thanks for the info! We'll be there in November. Our first time staying at POFQ. We stayed at Riverside last year for the first time and were very pleased. We hope to be equally pleased with the French Quarter!:p

How crowded was it? Are they back to full capicity? Was it bright and clean as you would expect a WDW resort or did it seem a bit "off"? I have stayed there many times but when I was there in June, it was open but not at capicity for rooms or CMs. Going back in Dec., looking forward to a nice stay.

The resort seemed pretty low in attendance. The pool was never busy during the week. The food court was only a little crowded at breakfast. As I said before, it was pretty quiet. There was always someone coming and going, but nothing seemed packed. We couldn't hear any neighbors either.
As for the condition, I thought the outside of the buildings looked pretty clean. The landscaping needed work in a couple of spots, and the laundry room was a tad dirty. Otherwise, very nice as usual. Inside the room was very clean too. Our room didn't smell fresh, but I was comparing it to our connecting room which had the carpet cleaned the day we checked in and smelled very nice. I didn't notice any stains or worn areas on the furniture or carpet. They are only passing out 2 soaps and shampoo. When we were at BWV we got lotion and mouthwash, too.

Thank you so much for the great review BlueFairy. We are staying at French Quarter next May and we can hardly wait! I would like to ask a question too. There was a thread going recently about elevators at PO/FQ. We were told by CRO that there were elevators but some people stated there were not. Did you see and use elevators during your stay? I would really appreciate knowing. Thank you.

I know that building 4 has elevators. They were very near our rooms. I also remember seeing some at building 7 I think. Otherwise I'm not sure. All the other resort facilities are on the ground floor. We didn't actually use the elevators.

I will be at PO-FQ next month. Have stayed there before and it's my favorite moderate. I will have my mom with me and she will be using a wheel chair or ECV (elec. scooter) due to a foot injury. I asked about elevators and was told every building has one. I must admit I didn't see one in our bldg. last trip, but I wasn't really looking for one.

Thanks for the great review. We will be staying there in October for our first visit to POFQ and your info reassured me that it was a good decision. Did the bus with the characters stop by the resort in the mornings? Thanks

Thanks for clearing that up Sandee and BlueFairy. We have requested the top floor and I know my poor knee could not take walking up three flights. Also, I read your restaurant reviews on the restaurant board BlueFairy. Very good review. So informative. You have made me more excited to get back to " the world"!

<My only complaint was I did think the hot water supply was barely acceptable. I never had what I consider a hot shower (any time of day). There were sporadic times of heat followed by cool or luke warm.<

*First time poster - Long time lurker*

I was at the POFQ in June and I had the same problem. But, on the last day, I played with the hot/cold control and found out I had it pointed in the wrong direction! I shut the shower off, tried it again, and the shower had more than enough hot water.

It was hard to believe it, but it worked.

I like the PO so much, we'll be staying at the Riverside in October for the Halloween party, and back to the French Quarter in December for the Christmas party. BTW, my mother will be going with us in December and she hasn't been to WDW since 1972 when it opened! There's been a few changes. ;)

DisneyFreaks - you will have such a great time. The resort had wheelchairs you could rent for the duration of your stay if you need them. Just get a room near the elevators since the buildings are large.
Bamadisney - are you in Alabama? We are in Birmingham! Roll Tide. Anyway, I did see the character bus one morning, maybe Wed? We were driving, so we missed the characters. They didn't tell us about it at the front desk, so ask. Also, we didn't make a point to be there. Not sure if they go to FQ and Riverside or just one place for all of PO.

I have one question-was Eliot Dyson, the Jazz Saxaphonist, in the lounge? Last time we were there, the CMs were hoping to get him back.

Thanks for the wheel chair information. I hope it won't come to that. LoL Also I will make note about the weird showers. Thanks ThAnswr. I wish we didn't have to wait until May. I am so excited. This will be our first time staying at PO/FQ and I have heard so many good things about this resort.

Thanks for the review. I am going to try out POFQ for two days in April before 8 nights at the WLV for Easter. My parents are staying at POFQ for about a week prior to our arrival. They have not been to WDW in about six years. This will be their first trip without any kids (it is only their second trip ever--the first they went with us too)! I just hope everything is perfect for them because they really NEVER go on vacation. They have been married for 36 years and this will be their first real vacation alone! I am doing my best to help them have a very magical vacation.

Bamadisney . . . What a coincidence. We live on Hwy 280 but are moving to our first house next week. It is in Crestwood. What a small world!
To everyone else . . . have a great time. You will love this resort!

Oh, we didn't go to the lounge, so I don't know about the sax player. Sorry.

BamaDisney, when in Oct. is your fall break? Ours is Oct. 7 - 11 and we will be at POFQ the 6 - 9, over to the Hard Rock Hotel the 9 - 11, then back to POR the 11 - 13. Maybe we'll see you there.

Praise to Him...Our Fall break actually does not start until October14 but we are leaving out a few days early. We will get there on the tenth. Look for us. It will be DH and two BLONDE DD's age 3 and 7. (Not alot to go on, huh!) Would love to chat by the pool.

BLUEFAIRY----So funny we have been looking at houses on 280! I just dont know about that traffic! Thanks for all the great POFQ info. I was worried that I had made the wrong decision, but from what I hear it sounds very nice. I also hear that no matter what building you are in the walk to food court and busses will not be long. Can you recommend a building for me to request that will be close to everything? Thanks a ton!

This may be the wrong place to ask my general question but since we are going to stay in POFQ in a few weeks I thought I'd take the opportunity to say thanks for the review. This is our first resort stay at the World and I'm glad to hear you had good things to say. I am wondering if we have to be a GF resort guest to take advantage of some of the activities there (ie Grand Cooking Adventure; beachfront access; barge parade). I have a nearly 6 yr old that I thought night enjoy the event (cooking) and I thought I could occupy my 2 yr old with water/sand if possible.

Also, can you meet the caravan at another resort? If for example we are staying at PO and it only comes W/F and we want to see them on Th?

Thanks for any advice!

BamaDisney - If you're not used to the traffic it will be a shocker, esp. if you are south of 459 and have to get into downtown everyday. We live closer and have flexible work hours, so we miss the rush hour most days.
If you want a garden view I would definitely recommend building 4. Building 2 and 5 are closest for water views. The resort is very compact, so the idea that all are good locations is true.
Ladybelle - you probably need to start a new thread to get the expert opinion. My understanding is you can do Grand Cooking and see the water parade. Just make a reservation and tell the security why you're there. They can give you a parking pass. Don't know about the beach, though I don't see why not. Just remember there's no swimming in the lake.
I think you can see the caravans at other resorts. We tried to catch the one at the Poly on our breakfast day there, but it was the wrong day of the week. Having a PS for dining will get you in most places. We did notice that security is tighter at the resorts. They make sure your name is on the list before letting you in for parking.

Ladybelle,
You don't have to be a guest at GF to take advantage of the activities. My nieces have done the Grand Cooking Adventure, Tea Party and Pirates Cruise from GF and we were not guests of GF.
