Hi, I just found this thread and I think it is wonderful idea. :thumbsup2 I have had a rough year and am really at a place where I need to find some direction. I started South Beach and bought a Wii Fit with Christmas funds that I recieved and it was going fairly well when I received a call I never thought I would ever have to take. My son who was 35 was found not breathing and was being rushed to the hospital in TN. He was revived but did not make it thru the night so U had no chance to drive from VA to TN. He was bi-polar and was finally doing everything he was supposed to as far as meds were concerned. I have no answers as to what happened or why.....
I was just steping on the Wii when the call came; so I find it very hard to get back on. I lost 30 pounds on South Beach from Jan until May; I went off the diet when I had a family cruise planned with my only other child to Alaska in May. I just started back - last week.
I know I have to lose weight due to health reason (Diabetic in denial - not on insolin (sp) but it is really tough, I am numb, I have another short cruise planned in September that I can not get excited about. I will be visiting the Mouse for one day prior to going on the cruise I am hoping he can work some of his Magic on me and help me become alive again - I had tickets from about 10 years ago. That is how I found this board, I was searching for ideas and looking for a designer to help me with my T-shirts for my Angel Cruise in November. I had promised my son and his family I would take them on the next family cruise and he will be in a way. I am taking his two step daughters and wife with me to sprinkle his ashes at sea! He loved the sea and his daughters have never been to the ocean, he never got a chance to take them.
So, thank you for this board, as I said I started a modified South Beach diet on the 9th and I have lost 8 pounds since then, probably a little too fast. I did a lot of reading on SB and the background makes a lot of sense and it is the one diet I have found fairly easy and I did Ok an maintained it from May until now, I had only gained about 3 pounds. Bread is the hard thing for me not to eat.
So, my Wish for now is lose 5 - 10 more pounds before my cruise in September and another 10 lbs before my Angel Cruise on Thanksgiving weekend.
Tonight, I had a cup of chili and a salad. Yogurt for lunch and a Starbuck Mocca Latte for Breakfast. OK, Breakfast was not a good thing, :surfweb: but I didn't sleep last night and really needed the caffine to keep going - and boy did it taste good! Nuts of evening snack.

Welcome to the WISH Threads. :goodvibes So sorry about your DS.
Sounds like you were doing great with the WII and have made good progress on your diet. I have a WII but haven't been on it for a few months. You've come to the right place for support. Give it a little time and you will have a great support system here.
I have Mickey can work his Magic on you. Are you going on a Disney cruise?

I was just looking at another post and saw that someone posted a picture and I think that is a GREAT idea! Something to look back at and remember where I started and hoepfully I will see a difference as I walk this journey. About 210 lbs.

No, it is another line, can't afford to take everyone on a Disney one. That a dream for the future. I haven't been able to get back on the Wii, again yet. But, the Fit program is good for someone not able to go to the gym or not comfortable in the gym.
Thanks for the Welcome!

Today was an OK day. I hope my first post was not too much to share, but it felt good to put it down. I have been thinking about starting a Journal, just hadn't managed it yet. Visited the (sleep) doctor today, and he was encouraging since a lot of the health issues can be related to the two things, SA and Stress. So both hopefully I can work on. I have had SA for 8 years so it is nothing new but my Bipap is just aging like the rest of us; or at least me - so need to get a new one.
So true stat from the Doctor's records are Dec 2009 ... 242. May 2010 .....206; today ..... 205. So that is good since I know I had gained this summer - and I just started back with SB on the 9th, so I am back to where I need to be to start again; My Goals are online and I have to make happen.
Breakfast .... Did not do
Lunch ......... Salad and Grilled Chicken, Ice Tea
Dinner ........ Going to be bad, going out to Olive Garden with a friend

This is a great place to journal.
Bit of advice? Don't skip breakfast, or any meal. Eat light, small meals. They are better for you.
Olive Garden doesn't have to be bad. I :lovestruc Olive Garden. Moderation is key. Of course with those breadsticks you have to have a very strong will.
I hope you had a good time with your friend.

Hi and thnaks for the support, The time with my friend was wonderful and relaxing. I know I preach to others about breakfast and then let someting get in the way. Generally work.
I was not too bad at Olive Garden I guess. I had the whole wheat pasta with their new red sauce, but I did have two bread sticks (better than the old 4 or 5). Salad of course. It was never ending pasta bowl but I ordered a second but only took about two bites and left the rest. Wasteful but better not in me!
Today will be a Breakfast will be a challenge agaion since I have to be at a remote site first thing this morning and I don't think I have time, so it maybe a cereal bar or string cheese.
Happy weekend to all, :cool1:

Hope you are having a good weekend. We ended up at Olive Garden last night. Yep, two breadsticks. That's my limit.
I often eat a bagel or english muffin on my way to work. Something is better than nothing. :thumbsup2
What are you doing for exercise?

Right now, just walking in my living room. I have a step measurer and try to do a mile a day. I have to start doing more. I have been staying away from the English muffins and other bread products and doing either cereal (special K, or an egg for breakfast)
It has been a bad weekend around here. Baby sat grandson yesterday so I ate two salads (one lunch, one supper) but then made some light popcorn and ate the whole bag. Today was grandson's birthday so not so good today either.
Have to start over tomorrow!

It Monday and a new day! So back on the diet - forget that piece of birthday cake I ate yesterday and the pasta. New week and back to the healthy eating. Still have this sinus drainage sour throat, hopefully it will pass.
Going to talk to someone about my head today. Hopefully they can help me get out of this low place, I have only talked to someone once before and that was when I lost my brother at 36 yoa; and it did help... hoping this will! I have a funny feeling the first thing they are going to suggest is journaling. I notice a board on Disboards for comfort and losses, maybe that is where I should be writing instead of here. But, I guess I really have two issues the weight and health and loss of my son. Thanks Disney for allowing both boards. I am really counting on the "Mouse" right now and appreciate you being here!

 I hope you can find someone who can help you. I have been over to the other board before and there are wonderful people over there. Lots of listening and insight.
Your weekend doesn't sound bad. It's not only what you eat but portion sizes also. 2 salads and light popcorn is waaaay better then two cheeseburgers and heavy butter popcorn. But....I do understand what you mean. I really admire your will power on trying to stay away from bread. :thumbsup2 My downfall.
I hope you had a good day today.

Hi there,
I'm new to WISH too but I've found reading the journals and posts on here very inspiring. I'm so sorry for your loss and i can see how it would be hard to get back to the Wii after that. It sounds like you are doing a really good job with your food choices. If you have to chow down on something light popcorn is actually a great choice. I use it sometime when I feel that urge to just stuff my face. It is pretty low calorie. I hope your planing for your cruise is going well. I really like to walk the deck on the ships when we cruise. Of course, it only makes up a little bit for all that wonderful food!
Keep up the good work!

I was able to do a little excercise tonight, running in place for about 1/2 hour. Went to the doctor today and started taking a "Z" pack, I guess I really was sick after all. Sinus infection and drainage was starting to drain into upper lobes.
Breakfast today: Cereal - Special K; coffee
Lunch: Grilled chicken paddy - didn't have time to eat the salad since I went to the doctor; Iced tea
Dinner: Salad, Chicken in cheese sauce, green beans, Iced Tea
Snack: Mixed nuts
So not too bad eating wise anyway
Thanks for the postive comments!

A new day is srtarting, only woke up once last night that is GOOD! Took a cough drop, visited the bathroom and went straight back to sleep. Much better than recently. It's funny how fast a "Z" pack can start to work sometimes! Or maybe the exercise; it was still after midnight when I went to bed but earlier than usual. So, Good Morning World!

Worked till about noon in the office and then came home and worked here. Starting to feel lousy and coughing starting again!
B: Special K cereal
L: Salad, Soup, Beans, Iced Tea
S: celery and nutbutter
D: 4 chicken wings, 2 TBL of broccolli and salad
S: Light yorurt
Not bad but not SB phase 1, sort fof a mixture of Phase 1 & 2. Got to bed right at Midnight which is better than 1 or 2, and can honestly say I slept!

Hope you feel better; :flower3: I usually get them twice a year - I thought that was what I had but it had actually started to travel down.
I'm still kind of numb inside that is part of the problem, I can't get excited about the cruise or anything which is not normal for me. That is what I am trying to shake. MilliePie made me the cutest Pattern for my November Angel cruise. I can't decide if I want to do T-shirts of tote bags. I am going to the World in Sept., just for a day before I go on my Sept cruise- I am hoping the Mouse can work his Magic. But, everything seems to bring up thoughts of my son.
Back to Food. I went to Fresh Market and got some fresh ground Nut Butter, it actually is much better that Peanutbutter, thicker less creamy and it is wonderful with Celery. Makes a GREAT healthy snack. ;)

I hope your cold passes quickly and you are feeling better soon.
I've never lost a child and, as a mom, I can only imgaine how devestated you must feel. However I have lost people close to me and I think it is normal to feel numb for a while. For me, at first I couldn't feel anything at all and it seemed like that would never end. Then one day out of nowhere I found myself laughing and realized I was having fun and not thinking about our loss. It took a long time but soon the good days out numbered the bad and now I can think about our memories together without really feeling sad at all. My DH recently lost his dad and I've watched him go through something similar. I hope you are having more and more good days soon. :grouphug:

First of all, I would like to send you a huge hug & my deepest condolences for the loss of your son. It is my biggest fear in the world, losing a child, and I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. I admire your ability to get up each day, much less take charge of your health. You are an inspiration.
There's another thread on here in which the lady says she's starting with the exercise slowly & consistently, but allowing herself rest days as well (lolakat,I think)...& I hope you'll do the same. Its important to exercise, of course, but its also important to do it at a pace & the type of exercise thats comfortable for you! Even if you just take the stairs when you'd usually take an elevator, or park waaaay in the back of the lot & walk into the store...these things add up. & Good for you with the breakfasts! I know how hard that can be to get in...one thing that really helps me is protein shakes...I mix one up first thing in the am & I'm good to go & never hungry between meals anymore. I use soy protein (cause the soy is rumored to also be good at treating menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes!...important for me!).
Anways, good luck to you!! & keep up the good work!

I hope you had a fun day shopping and lunching with your brother's GF! I think it is important to allow yourself an indulgence once in a while. It's not one order of pasta or wings that got us here, right? The issue I always run into is that I tend to completely fall off the wagon after what could be a one time indulgence. I think the best thing to do is just enjoy the treat for what it was and continue on with your healthy eatting plan. You can do it!!

Thanks for the encouragement! I need it. I am not so good on weekends. Much better during the week. Went to the pool today and layed in the sun a little dinner was so, so. Back to the game plan tomorrow.
I looked for a journal I wanted for my son but couldn't find what I wanted so I made one on Shutterfly with pictures. Hopefully it will come out fine. I also joined an online board for people who have lost a child. Just taking it one day at a time! Thanks everybody again for the support!

Actually been an active weekeend. I went for a walk yesterday for an hour; today went to the gym today and had an hour work out. Really nice gym but I don't know how anyone affords $65. a month. Guess I will be checking out some other gym's, we have a Gold's gym may check them out next!

I'm glad you are feeling a little better this week. You will be in Disney before you know it!! How exciting!
If you like a gym but expense is an issue you might check out your local YMCA. They often have a fairly nice gym and memberships are pretty reasonable.

Our YMCA is about $50 a month, the one I really like is $65 a month, Gold is on special right now about $20 a month and Planet Fitness is about the same as Gold's. But, I have joined before and I have to be comfort going or I know I won't go. One has a special $12 for 21 days, I gues I will go do that and see if I will use it!

Very smart to do a trial before you make a commitment. One of my friends on here has an awesome rec center she goes to for all kinds of things. I live in a very small town and there are two gyms and we don't have a YMCA. Wish we did.

I spruged and got a pedicure today, my toes are all pretty and pink! I haven't been since May; when my daughter got me one for Mother's day so I was in deep need! Besides they had pizza at lunch today for the employees and I was good and had half a bowl of cereal.

Yay for the pedicure as a reward for skipping the pizza! Good for you!!
I live in a small town too, with no YMCA...and Planet Fitness is about 30 minutes from me. I tried it April -August every day (except weekends) and though the equipment is good, I found that doing those repetitive type of cardio workouts just don't work for me. Once I get going, my heart rate will stabilize...you can mix it up with interval training, but I find at home video tapes to be more fun, and to work more body parts at one time. It can be hard to find ones that work for you, but it sure is easier than driving to a gym. Just a thought...

I agree with the at home workouts. We are doing zumba at a dance class I go to and before that a dance one. You really work your whole body doing those.
