Matching Mickey Mouse Club T-Shirts

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-4/149620/designall.dll.jpeg
On a casual dining evening (date yet to be determined), we are planning our own Mickey Mouse Club Night to make us very disguisable to other Magic guests and to one another! It’s also another great photo opportunity! So if you would like to participate, you can purchase your t-shirt(s) at either www.DisneyStore.com (http://www.disneystore.com/tees-mickey-mouse-club-you-design-it-tee-for-adults/p/1239031/305603/) or Zazzle.com (http://www.zazzle.com/mickey+mouse+club+tshirts).
There are variations of t-shirt styles that you can purchase (especially at Zazzle) for the whole family in a wide range of sizes. So choose your favorite style and don’t forget to personalize it with your name on the back in a LARGE font. Some DISers are choosing Impress as their font of choice, but feel free to use whatever you like best!
On a final note, pack your Ears if you have them to go with your MMC shirt!
Note that Zazzle DOES ship internationally, where DisneyStore does not.
DisneyStore.com (http://www.disneystore.com/disney/store/DSISearch?D=mickey+mouse+club&Dn=0&langId=-1&Nao=0&Ntk=All_Shopping&Nr=AND%28OR%28pStoreID%3A10051%2CpStoreID%3A10601% 2CpStoreID%3A10052%29%2CpPublished%3A1%29&catalogId=10002&Nu=pProductID&Ntt=mickey+mouse+club&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&storeId=10051&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Dr=AND%28OR%28pStoreID%3A10051%2CpStoreID%3A10601% 2CpStoreID%3A10052%29%2CpPublished%3A1%29&Ns=pGrossMargin|1||pSortName|0&N=0&categoryId=11776):
Zazzle.com (http://www.zazzle.com/mickey+mouse+club+tshirts):
One point to mention is that on Zazzle's site, they have two circular-looking graphic versions of the Mickey Mouse Club t-shirt. One looks like the one Todd posted (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=36866226&postcount=3616), which is identical to the one on Disney's site, and Zazzle also has a second, a less dazzling one, that does not have the "Member" and "1956" reference. The screenprint is also different in color. So please make sure you select the correct one.
We will be wearing the MMC shirts on Night 11 of the cruise

Cruise Banner (logo) for signature lines
Thar be many a crew asking me if they can be adding the cruise banner to there signature , And I figured I wouldnt keep it all to me onesies so here be three different sizes you can be adding to your signature line , Beware , those crewmates that dont be adding it could find themselves walking the plank come Sept 2010 ...Savvy ??
Instructions to add Banner to signature line Thanks Tia
Right click the size logo that you want and select properties. Copy the link then go to User CP and Edit Signature. Using the little yellow square (looks like a picture of mountains) above the signature box, paste the link that you copies from the photo properties. Make sure you don't get 2 http entries. Instead of using the yellow box, you can just type then paste the link and end with - no spaces in between the brackets and the link.

Where to get Adult Beverages before the cruise in Barcelona
Before the 2007 TA, we discovered the wine shop in El Corte Ingles, which is a department store located at the top of Las Ramblas. The wine department is on the lower level, in the grocery store. The selection is fabulous, and the prices incredible!

A Bernard Tour (http://www.bernardstours.com/) in St Maarten has been booked and deposited. The tour is closed with a total of 36 people confirmed.
The cost is $45 per person payable in cash or credit card to Bernard the morning we meet up with him.
Message from Bernard below:
Your reservation is confirmed for our private tour on September 28, 2010. Bernard Tours will be meeting you at 9:00 AM in front of the yellow building at the information desk next to the statue, please walk up to the Information Desk and ask for Bernard.
We are located about three minutes walk on the Pier...Have a great day and we are committed to make your day in Paradise the best it can be. We greatly appreciate your business and look forward to assisting you.
The tour will be from 9:00AM-3:00PM and will consist of the following stops:
·Great Bay (http://www.tropical-pictures.com/st-maarten-philipsburg.html) overlooking Phillipsburg (http://www.geographia.com/st-maarten/anmphil01.htm) and harbor.
·Cayhill (http://www.sxm-info.com/SXM-map/) overlooking Simpson Bay marina (http://www.igy-simpsonbay.com/).
·Sunset Beach bar (http://www.sunsetbeachbar.com/) ( Maho Beach (http://www.sint-maarten.net/St-Maarten-Beaches/MahoBay.html) ) where you can see the planes land right over your head.
·Marigot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Martin) - open market (French Capital).
·Swim and or snorkel at Dawn Beach (http://www.sint-maarten.net/St-Maarten-Beaches/DawnBeach.html) for up to two hours, as time allows.
Since it is our own private tour, the time at each stop is negotiable. Bernard has the above schedule pretty tight on the standard tour. The first 2 stops are just scenic stops, shouldn’t be too long since there are only 12 of us. He probably has things timed so that we would be at Maho Beach when the planes are flying overhead. 30 minutes is usually allotted for the market at Marigot. The rest of the time will be spent at the beach for lunch and swimming/snorkeling.
There are restrooms and restaurants for lunch at Dawn Beach. Links to restaurants in the Dawn Beach area are below.
St Maarten Restaurants (http://www.sint-maarten.net/St-Maarten-Restaurants/stmaarten_RestaurantsDutch.html#oysterpond)
Scavenger's Beach Bar (http://www.stmartin.com/detail.html?bid=27)
Mr. Busby's beach bar, Daniel's by the Sea, Penthouse Paradise and Island Pizza (http://dawnbeachsxm.com/)
Water, beer, soda and rum punch will be served throughout the trip
Upon your return to Philipsburg, you will be offered a direct return to the ship at the Cruise Facility, or you may choose to remain in Philipsburg for shopping and return to the ship on your own.
You may walk from the drop off point to the ship in about 12 - 15 minutes, or choose to take a taxi for about $3.00 per person.

DIS Scavenger Hunt:
is anyone out there who would like to partake in our Disney Magic Scavenger Hunt, could you please send me a PM with your name, number of copies and your room number .... just so I have a vague idea of how many copies to bring. I will bring these to the DIS meet on the first day and for those who don't make the meet I will drop it off in your FE / Fish on the first sea day.
The scavenger hunt will involve finding things out about the Magic, photographing items and finding items and should be a lot of fun. Participants should hand in their completed forms and show us their photos and items collected on the last sea day in the morning, before the Farewell Lunch, as that is when we will be giving out the prizes. Location and time to be finalised for dropping off the sheets etc.
So far I have the following people on the list ( could you please confirm how many copies you will need ie. if you are doing it as individuals or together. Thanks.

Secret Mickey
SECRET MICKEY IS NOW CLOSED
Welcome to the WBTA Secret Mickey:
This works along the same idea as a Secret Santa. Each participating stateroom will be matched with another stateroom, and the idea is to buy or make a gift or gifts, with a total cost per cabin of no more than $25. The gift (s) can be one big joint gift for all those in the stateroom, or small individual gifts for each person. The gifts can be left in the FE during the cruise, or you can have the room attendant put the gift in the room. You should have a tag/card that designates it as a gift from their Secret Mickey.
At the farewell lunch you can reveal yourself to your Secret Mickey recipient. If you do not plan to attend the lunch, it might be a good idea to reveal your identity by popping a card in your recipients fish towards the end of the cruise.
You will all by now have recieved your Secret Mickey recipients so I hope you have fun :yay:

Timings are subject to change due to potential clashes with the tastings and location will be advised later.
List of participants:
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q51/dolphingirl_album/DISBoards/JewelleryMaster2-1.jpg
We will be working on three projects in each workshop:
For the necklace, we are going to use Swarovski crystals in various different shapes and sizes. For the Villain theme, we are going to use purple and black crystals, for the ship theme black, white, red and yellow crystals and for the Champagne girl theme pink crystals.
For the cell phone charm, there are two options. The Champagne Girl version will have a silver Tinkerbell charm dangling from the end and will have pink crystals. The Pirate version will have silver skull beads at either end with black, white, red and yellow crystals in the middle.
For the bag charm, there will only be one version. This will have lime green Mickey beads at either end with metal beads spelling out DIS in the middle.
I will update the spreadsheet on here once I have the last of the room numbers. You can find the most up to date spreadsheet with some additional information here:

List is now Closed!
A chance to participate in an exchange of postcards during your voyage.
The idea is that people buy postcards of their area/country/town/city etc and deliver a postcard to each person on the list. They don't need to be written on or anything but I'm sure people would like to have something on there to let them know who it was off. If people do want to write a little note on their about their country or town then thats OK too.
So far we have around 15 people taking part and you don't have to be in the Fish Extender Exchange to join in - but please let me know if you don't have an FE as then I can make a note on the list so people know not to expect one and can place the cards directly in the Fish Holder (they are built to hold letters etc anyway).
If anyone would like to take part that isn't on the list let me know.

If anyone would like to be added to this list please PM. Basically it is a list of people who would like Disers to stop by if they get a second to help them out with something. This was suggested by Kimberley (Buckeye Gal) and is a way for people to remember the trip. Some previous uses were:
Signing personalised scrapbook pages for people
Marking maps for children so they can use them either in a school project or for scrapbooking

Barcelona Accommodations List
Color Coding Translation:
The first five columns are grouped into colors based on the specific location of a night's accommodations.
The Arrival Date column is color coded by date. This same color coding is used on the Inbound Barcelona Flight Schedule List for dates of arrival into Barcelona. This makes it easier to cross-reference for whatever coordination you want to work out with fellow DISers, if it be to meet up for ground transportation, dining, or whatever else comes to mind that's legal! :rotfl:
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa55/Buckeye_Gal_OH/DCL%202010%20WB%20Trans-Atlantic/Hotel%20Roll%20Calls/HotelRollCalls0911Pt1530pm.jpg
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa55/Buckeye_Gal_OH/DCL%202010%20WB%20Trans-Atlantic/Hotel%20Roll%20Calls/HotelRollCalls0911Pt2530pm.jpg
INBOUND BARCELONA FLIGHT SCHEDULES
Color Coding Translation:
Where applicable, the first five columns are color coded in groups of travelers who have close to or exact departure date/times at the same airport. In some cases, these DISers may be on the same flight, or at the very least, you will likely be at the airport at the same time. So if you are in the same terminal, you may want to hook up for a mini-DIS meets! :grouphug:
The Arriving Airport column only has coloring (of DIS green) for Barcelona. Used with the Arrival Date/Time fields, this will to help identify those who will be at the BCN airport around the same time.
Arrival Date and Arrival Time fields have a color that corresponds to the color of Arrival Date on the Barcelona Accommodations List. This is to more easily cross-reference who will be headed to the same place on the same day when you arrive to our embarkation city. :woohoo: Again, this is to help facilitate anyone wanting to coordinate ground transportation :car: or if they simply want to give a hello :wave2: down at Customs/baggage claim.

Scrapbooking Exchange
Note the deadline to sign-up was July 16, so the participant list is closed.
Sandi (Hoagie Pie) has organized an exchange for the scrapbookers of the group! The idea is to give a scrapbooking embellishment for use in your scrapbooks after you return home!
Here are some answers to FAQs:
Deadline to sign-up was EOD July 16.
You don't have to spend a lot or any money towards this exchange.
The gift can be homemade, already in your scrapbooking inventory, or purchased.
Some ideas include page borders, journaling boxes, photo frames, titles for pages, and small embellishments.
Your gift can have a theme related to something you do on the ship (games, dining, pirating, etc.), our ports-of-call, cruising in general, Disney, or whatever else comes to mind.
If you have questions, contact Sandi (Hoagie Pie) (http://www.disboards.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=143626)!
The list of participants for the Scrapbooking Exchange is as follows:
(as of July 9)

Note that Theresa (Dialady) didn't get signed up by the deadline, but if you have extra goodies anad would like to include her in your exchange, she's in 2610.

So we will now wear our shirts on NIGHT 10, aka September 27, aka PJ Breakfast Day. Don't forget your ears! :earboy2:
Sarah will be including this on our group calendar in the DIS Navigator.

What do you need to do to get yours?
Send me a PM! (if you cannot send a PM email me at akblair@charter.net)
and put in the following information:
DIS name, cabin number (please update when known for GTY) and the size you need for each cruiser - sizes are guarenteed through August 6 - we will be ordering extras in all sizes and will be first come first serve after August 6 - but please fill in your sizes even if after August 6!
The sizes are:

:car: While in Barcelona Thursday night, several of us are planning to meet at Praktik Rambla Hotel to walk over to the Metro Station (http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/en/albums-en/magic-fountains-montjuic/) or buddy up in taxis to go as a group to the Font Màgica light show.
€ € € Transportation costs are on you! :) € € €
If you would like to join the group (good idea for safety reasons), here are the details:
What: Magic Fountain Light Show; first show at 9:30 pm
When: Thursday, September 16, 2010
Time: 20:15 aka 8:15 pm
Gathering Location: Praktik Rambla Hotel located at Rambla de Catalunya, 27
"Sign Up": Of course you can change your mind about going, but so we have a good idea of who we should look out for, it would be great if you sign up for the Event on our website (http://www.transatlanticpirates.com/) and note if you'll be at the hotel or meet at the fountain.
Alternative Gathering Location: If it's more convenient to go directly to the Magic Fountain, you can try to meet us up there.
Exactly Where?: Southeast end of the walkway over Avenguda de Rius i Taulet (at the SE end of Avenguda de la Reina Maria Cristina); this is the north side of the fountain
<Google Map to come>
I'll take a purple grape colored umbrella with neon yellow ribbons hanging from the top of it and have it held up in hopes you find us. So look for the umbrella held high in the sky.http://www.ironworksforum.com/forum/smiles/umbrella.gif"]http://www.ironworksforum.com/forum/smiles/umbrella.gif
Alternative Date: There are others who are planning to go Friday after the DIS Meets at the Hard Rock Cafe as well, however, they will not be meeting at Praktik Rambla Hotel.

No Mac vs PC war but a bit of history from my perspective or a walk down memory lane.
Though we are not Mac people, John and I spent a lot of time with Burrell Smith in the early stages of the MAC design as the PAL device that John invented was used in the early MAC's. We have a very early 1984 MAC in the garage that John carried all over Europe on a sabbatical in early 1985.
John also spent a great deal of time in Boca Raton in the late 1970's and early 1980's with the IBM team lead by Don Estridge, if I remember the name correctly.
He also was very involved with DEC PDP 11 designs in Massachusetts. If you happen to remember the book "The Soul of New Machine" by Tracey Kidder, you might have read about John in the story. Tracey Kidder signed the book to John with the quote, "The socket is no longer empty.
My mother was a mathematician/computer programmer for JPL in the 1950's so I have always been exposed to computers. John worked on computers from his time at UCB.
John wrote an assembly language called PALASM which was used to program the PAL devices.
So, to make a long story short, there is a place for both computers. I just personally don't like Steve Jobs so don't want to support his products. Apple had wonderful products, just not for me.
Just my thoughts....

DEC PDP 11, I worked on a few of those when I first started at Compaq.
I agree that there is a place with both computers, one thing I do find odd is that most other computer manufacturers don't do more in terms of styling of their computers, people do like nice shiny things!!

On our last disney cruise, we were a little disappointed in the table service. Our servers asked us how their service was, and pressed us to tell them what they could do to improve. So we pointed out a couple of things that we noticed. One was that they sometimes forgot some of our orders. They were better after that.

Hi all, I'm repeating this question because I'd really like your thoughts. Forgive the repetition!
There's another thread devoted to whether anyone has felt pressured by CMs to give them an "excellent" rating on the satisfaction surveys at the end of the cruise whether they deserve it or not. (BTW, you can find that thread here.)
I don't want to repeat that discussion here, but I would like to ask a related question: Given that Disney needs feedback on their service, how can they get it without being irritating or intruding on our fun? Here's my post from that thread:
QUOTE:
Disney (and all service providers) needs feedback to make sure they can improve their service, and the closer to receiving the service, the fresher our impressions are, and the more reliable the feedback. Yet the very act of asking can intrude on our pleasure as guests.
Next, Disney (and other service providers) rewards and promotes those servers who rate well, and, I would hope, works with and provides more instruction to those who don't rate well. This means that the servers are under pressure to get good scores, and some of them (especially the less confident ones) turn around and put pressure on the guests they are serving to give them good scores. This is OK if they deserve it, and not if they don't, but again, can be irritating in either case.
How can Disney find out who is doing well, who needs more instruction to do better, and what DCL can improve without being intrusive or irritating? Remember that it needs to be done while it's fresh in our minds.
If you were Disney, what would you do? And, as a paying guest, how would you like to give feedback? What have you seen done elsewhere that works, or that you like? What, in your opinion, doesn't work?
This is a difficult problem, and one that's not unique to Disney, but if we can come up with a better way to help Disney improve our experience, and help us have more fun, ultimately we will benefit from it most!
END QUOTE
I would very much be interested in your thoughts on this, especially from those who are repeat cruisers!
Thanks,
Richard

Personally, I think it should be done online but I do realize not everyone has access to online services.
They might have those persons not willing to participate in an online survey, receive a phone call asking those questions.
Somehow it is so impersonal to just mark your comments down either on a survey or a piece of paper. I have heard of people who mark negative things for no other reason than they are just unpleasant people. To think that a person could loose his or her job over one such a survey seems inefficient to say the least
DCL should do more follow up phone calls, especially to first time cruisers to see what their experiences were and how they could improve. They could do a random selection of persons in all categories to call to get much more feedback than they get in a survey. Questions like did you rebook on board, if so why or if not, why not etc. I think people might tend to be more forthcoming on the phone.
Just my thoughts...

I do not mind being asked to fill out a survey. However, I do mind being pressured to fill out a survey. If I feel pressured, then I will most likely provide a less than stellar review.
My issue with the DCL surveys is that I often do not have enough space to enter my comments. I felt the need to comment on my room steward on the last cruise. She did a decent job but I NEVER saw her. In fact, the hotel manager had to call on day 3 to arrange a time of when our steward could come by and meet us. Even after that, I think I only saw her 2 other times. I would see the other folks working our area, I just never saw mine. The room was always taken care of satisfactorily but this was the first cruise, on any line, that I did not have any interation with my room steward. I did leave this on the comment card, and tried to stress that she did clean our room well, but I just thought it was unusual to never see her. That was a lot to squeeze into the 3 or so lines that DCL gives your for comments.
I know people rave about DCL and that unique Disney service. But sad to say, I have yet to experience it. Not to say I've had bad service, but I have had much better, more attentive and friendly service on 2 other lines. The only thing that brings me back to DCL is the chance to cruise with my friends.

Hi everyone
so in terms of meals looking at Navigator V 1 there are a number of themed nights
20th Gibraltar Theme – Prince & Princess Menu
24th At Sea Theme – Villains
26th At Sea Theme – Pirates of the Caribbean
27th Mon At Sea - Master Chef
28th St. Maarten - Tastes of the Caribbean
29th Tortola - Around the World Semi Formal – Captains Gala
what are these what do they entail whats the food, I know that the pirates of the caribbean people can and do dress up .. on the 28th is the mickey mouse club house t shirts (which i guess is unofficial and purely DIS)
so whats the deal with the different theme meals whats so special about the night that is villians or prince and princess menu - will there be characters out that fit the theme?
Thanks

Re feedback on CM`s.
TBH this expectation that all service is excellent is rubbish and we have to buy into it to help the Cm`s.
I know on our last questionaire we were asked if we had been pressurised to leave excellent feedback - we had, but by Disney not the CM`s. Its all gone a bit far and I don`t want someones future in my hands, I want a hassle free vacation.

From Krisannb:
On the EBTA I offered, and several took me up on it, to transfer memory cards to DVD's if anyone needed it. I will have my computer. Just leave me a note on my door! But please bring your own DVD (no Cd's).
From birkner:
John and I can also download your camera first onto either a DVD or a CD or if you bring one, a USB stick. If you don't have either CD's or DVD's with you, we probably will have a few extras. It is really cheaper to buy a USB stick as they are pretty cheap unless you get a lot of memory.
John says he will do it for free unless there is a huge demand then we will have to bring many extras and may have to charge a $1 or so each to do it. I am assuming most people know how to do this but if you want us to do this for you, will you please PM me so I know how many extra CD's or DVD's to bring.
If I don't hear from many people, we will just bring a few extra CD's and DVD's.
From su_kraft
I can also make DVD's and CD's - but we are not bringing media to put photos on... I secong the flash drive / memory stick. They are very inexpensive now...

If they are going to upload, the need to fill up their camera sticks before they download to a USB sticks. We also take the time to tell them that we like to laugh and have fun. I do know that the information from those surveys is calculated before the day is over and there have been changes made before the ship sets sail again based on common comments from multiple cruisers. (this info from DIS cruisers who are in the survey calculation business) We always take the few minutes to fill it out and we do mention CMs all around the ship that have given us magical moments ----and there are always several.

I agree completely about communication and tipping. Whenever we are going to be staying at a hotel or resort, I try to email the concierge before we arrive to arrange certain things. I think it gives the property a sense of who we are and what are our expectations even before we arrive.
You are spot on about having too high of expectations. Just go with the flow. If you get mad, get glad and then get over it. Life is WAY too short to be that stressed over vacation says the AAAAAA personality. I will TRY to practice what I preach. If not, please remind me of this post!!

I just got an e-mail from DCL reminding me of my cruise and my paperwork! How can I forget?????:rotfl2::rotfl2:
I got one, too. It was titled "Getting to your disney cruise." The picture had Dumbo flying by the Magic, so I showed it to DS10 (Adam) and said, "This is how they are going to be flying us to the ship."
We have DL 50th anniversary gold ears, but can't locate any of our black ears. We might just have to go with those.
I'd like to see the gold ears.

Currently scheduled for an Alaskan cruise 09AUG11 and sailing with my DS and DIL along with her twin sister and her parents (all three on their first real DCL cruise). I am also hoping to drag my mom along and maybe talk my other DS and his GF into going!
Lastly, I might possibly look at booking a phantom cruise and switching it to a 3 or 4-day dream which I might take my BD next year.

Hi there,
I am writing (again) on behalf of my inlaws (screen name - GmaGpaOnTheFarm). I wrote here a couple days ago, and set them up with an account here, and they wrote a message or two here...
Just wanted to say they probably won't be posting on here for a couple more days, but they will! So, didn't want anyone to think they just disappeared. They are currently taking care of our two children (getting some quality grandma and grandpa time) until Friday evening, and then Saturday, there is a huge family reunion for the family.
So, they are just totally tied up with grandkids and then family after that, and I know they are loving every minute of the time with the grandkids (and my DH and I are loving time WITHOUT kids ), so the last thing they probably want to do is sit on the computer and spend time online while the grandkids are there. :) We don't live in the same place as them, so they don't get this opportunity to spend this kind of time with the grandkids often.
So, they will write...
But, just for the list and info, their names are: Ron and Linda
I think someone asked for their names a while back.
I know they'd love to meet up with the "Geezer Meet".... I love that name, by the way, and I know they will get a kick out of that!! My Father-in-law, especially, is extremely outgoing, and he's one of those people who I swear knows someone in every major city in the world somewhere... My husband, kids and I travel a lot, and there have been so many times we've ran into people, and they say, "Oh, I know Ron!"
So, they will love to meet many of you, and like stated earlier, they'd love to meet up with anyone who wants to attend the chapel services... and I think a few of you responded saying you hope to do that.
So, they'll hopefully get in touch here Sunday or early next week!
They are traveling to Europe first (they leave in 1 1/2 weeks) and spending time in Germany and then making their way to Spain where they'll meet the ship. Great way to spend retirement, huh?
Hope you all have a great trip!! They can't wait!
Take care and thanks for all the warm welcomes to them! :lovestruc

On our last disney cruise, we were a little disappointed in the table service. Our servers asked us how their service was, and pressed us to tell them what they could do to improve. So we pointed out a couple of things that we noticed. One was that they sometimes forgot some of our orders. They were better after that.
Our servers have never been as good as the ones on the first DCL trip we did - it wasn't that they did anything special for us but they made dining fun - they were hilarious! On our last cruise, we saw John (aka Zan from Macedonia) and he had been promoted to head server. Otherwise on other cruises they have been ok but nothing exceptional - we ordered, they bought us our meals and drinks.
I know people rave about DCL and that unique Disney service. But sad to say, I have yet to experience it. Not to say I've had bad service, but I have had much better, more attentive and friendly service on 2 other lines. The only thing that brings me back to DCL is the chance to cruise with my friends.
I'm with your Monica, but we aren't demanding guests - we never ask for anything (like special requests) and we don't make a mess in our staterooms etc.
So we all know about our next vacation :goodvibes However just out of interest has anyone got any future vacations planned???
Mum and I are doing the Adventures by Disney Backstage Magic trip in July with the Dis Podcast team and 28 other Dis'ers. We will probably go to San Fran first and work our way back to LA.

We will be booking a dummy cruise too for 2012 (hopefully) and I hear a rumour that 2012 dates/intineraries will be released in Sept so we might be able to book a real cruise. I think again we will be looking for longer special intineraries and will again link it to a WDW trip as we will have DVC points to use.

I also have a Sony Reader. I love it! It means I can just tote one slim book when I travel instead of several bulky books. It will be with me on the WBTA.
Also, Corinna, I got the beads yesterday. Thanks so much for doing this for us!
Rene
Thanks for letting me know that the beads have arrived. I have updated the spreadsheet.
Having the Sony reader has made such a difference. I normally take 4 or 5 books on vacation and that takes up a lot of baggage space. Especially with the low baggage allowance, this would not have worked. With the Sony Reader, I can have a whole library with me and it fits in my purse. Better still, I found that the charger for DH's video camera also charges the this.
Still no beads here...
So far the beads that have gone to the USA have taken 6 days to get there. As I only sent yours on August 16th, it should be with you around August 23rd.
Dh bought me a new Kindle for my birthday last month. Any reccommendations for what to download for the trip? Oh, we're staying the week post-cruise at Kidani so maybe I'll need a couple of books...??? Or am I dreaming of extra time on my hands that won't come to pass?
And thanks for letting us join in. This is our 6th Disney cruise and we're also booked on the Wonder Panama Canal in January!
Have a great day! I'll be lurking....
Jackie
I can recommend "The Shadow of the Wind", which is a fantastic read and is set in Barcelona. I am going to download "Angel's Game" for this cruise, which is also by the same author and set in Barcelona.
We are also hoping to do the Panama canal cruise in January. My leave is now confirmed. Now I just have to crunch the numbers to see if we can afford this.
Hi all,
There's another thread devoted to whether anyone has felt pressured by CMs to give them an "excellent" rating on the satisfaction surveys at the end of the cruise whether they deserve it or not. You can find that thread here.
Thanks,
Richard

This is a very difficult topic. I manage people in a customer service role and therefore appreciate the value of honest feedback. I also understand that this is left to customers to provide feedback with no prompting then for the most part the feedback that you get is negative. As a rule, people who have received excellent service don't take the time to write in, but people who have received sub-standard service or perceive that they have received such, will. So if it left completely to the customer, you are never going to get accurate feedback.
Personally, I don't mind filling in a survey at the end of the cruise. This is really straightforward and does not take long to do. What I do however mind a great deal is the begging for excellent ratings. We had this on the first three cruises. The first two cruises, our servers were excellent and one the third, the server and the head server were absolutely wonderful, but the assistant server was useless. However much we got the talk about providing only excellent ratings, I provided accurate feedback.
On our most recent cruise, a new question had turned up on the survey asking us if we were pressured into giving only excellent ratings. Happily, this time round I could honestly say "no". Nobody mentioned the survey beyond asking if we could please fill it out. Nobody tried to influence us this time round regarding the ratings. Our serving team was fantastic and they had deserved their excellent rating.

Our next planned trip is at Christmas. Our oldest daughter, who is doing a professional internship with Disney, just told us she's in the Candlelight Processional choir! So, we have to go see her sing!
We're hoping to book an Alaska cruise while we're onboard, maybe for June 7, since that's the first one after our youngest daughter gets out of school. But, I want to try to see Aulani next year, too! Too many vacations to take, not enough time!

I was having a look through the Med menus and I see they have changed things around a bit. Previously on the menus, the entrees had two vegetarian items clearly marked. This isn't the case now as vegetarian/lighter fare are listed with the same icon so in some cases, there is actually only one vegetarian entree listed.
This combined with the lack of starters/salads/soups that are vegetarian, it just seems like there are a few less options for us. I've had difficulty on past cruises actually getting a straight answer out of the serving staff if some of the items are actually vegetarian (made with chicken stock etc) and in fact on the last cruise we were assured the appetisers were vegetarian, only to be part way through eating it and found meat in it  Its a darn good job I'm not allergic to it, just choose not eat it...

NO NO NO NO! If you do your checkin online and print them out and bring them to the port to sign, you shouldn't even have any in your book. But you must not have done it online yet. There's still time........

Me too, me too - mine will be in the mail after tomorrow.
So, when are you telling his school about this cruise? My older son started school this week and I haven't told them about the cruise yet. When we booked this, he was being homeschooled. My younger son is still homeschooled and I have already notified his principal. :rotfl:Any suggestions on telling the other school about the cruise?
I told my DD's school already. She goes to a paraochial school and will be a Sr as of tomorrow. Here's my suggestion. Stick as close to the truth as possible, if you don't want to tell the whole truth and be upfront. For instance, I made sure to state that this once in a lifetime opportunity blah, blah, blah and I also informed them that there would be a few hrs each day to do some type of homework. That she could be in contact with teachers if need be on a daily basis or at least every other day. I also gave evidence of how diligent she works and how her GPA did not suffer when we pulled her out for about 8 days when her grandfather passed away. I also promised to have her contact each individual teacher for homework (school usually doesn't give HW ahead of time) and will make arrangements with them.
It worked, not only this but I requested to have an answer within 1 day. It worked for me. But then again, I did stress the cultural and historical aspect of the ship rather heavily. :rolleyes1 Also, the fact that we would be visiting some very holy and important places in regards to our religion. So, technically, I didn't lie, history is steeped in war and lots of other good things like that.
OK got to sign off now as my furrkids are dying to walk. Looks like I'm on my own. Not a good sign.

Thanks,
Richard
If needed, I will include an extra sheet to give further comments.
On our Dec four day Wonder cruise, the last night our service went in the toilet as far as I was concerned. We did have a big table and each night a few people were not there since they were eating in Palo. Those of us not there were told they were taken care of quite well and no problems. The last night all of us were there and it seemed to take forever. We ordered drinks and some were delivered, some right, some wrong. It took forever to get our main course and we didn't even get the offer of dessert. We all made sure to tell the head waiter our disappointment.
We also made sure to note this on the comment card as well.
I have worked in a few restaurants as a Hostess, so I made sure to pass along any praise to management as well as to relay it back to the wait person. Plus now if I am very satisfied or very unhappy with service, I will go immediately to the manager to give my impressions.

Repeated reply from thread 8

I like the idea of phone calls. I would be willing to take the time to answer questions that way.

So far we are only planning a week at DVC Hawaii which opens in August 2011. Probably in October sometime.
We'll book some dummy dates on board for the Fantasy in 2012 and hopefully something on the Dream sometime next year; followed by a week or two at WDW.
We also just bought our tickets for the D23 Expo today but we're only 30 minutes from Disneyland so not really a vacation. However, we'll probably get a studio at the Villas and make a mini-trip outta it.

We are looking to swap our home in Celebration, FL (next door to WDW) for someplace in Europe for a few weeks next summer (Jul or AUG).

We're booked on the 8/16/11 5nt Dream cruise with 2x @ CC. However, I've tried since 2 weeks after booking it to rebook it and get an onboard credit, but it's been sold out up to Cat 5 or 4 since December.

We have DCL Alaska July 2011 booked. I'm having difficulty getting excited about this one. :confused3 Dennis is looking forward to it though. I haven't told them yet. I tried last week at registration but the right people were not available. I may try again tomorrow if I can leave work early. I plan on asking for independent study for the 2 weeks but letting them know that whether its granted or not, he will not be at school. I've heard other cruisers report that they 'ask' the school and are told they can't go. I'm not necessarily going to ask, I'm going to tell them he won't be there and find out what we can do to minimize the impact.

I really need to nail down my plans for Gibraltar because it's bugging me that it's not settled yet! I want to go to the Rock without the help of DCL, but I'm not sure how I want to go about doing it. I see so many options, but what I think would be easiest for my back is a "taxi tour". I would love to go up the cable car too, though, to film. See! I'm so undecided!

We feel your pain! Being a small business owner Gus doesn't have any health insurance and we still aren't married so when he had terrible tooth pain last week we had to go to Mexico for his root canal. It's about 3 hours to the border so the drive wasn't terrible but there is a travel advisory against travel to Tijuana so I was a little nervous but everything turned out fine! Not to mention, it was only $150! However, Gus has been in some pretty bad pain for the past fews days! He finally got some relief today but now have to go back Monday for the crown. Poor thing. I'm glad you guys are able to take care of it before the cruise. Btw, the only pain meds that gave Gus any relief was Norco 10-325. The Vicodin the doc gave him didn't work at all for tooth pain. He had to call him for something stronger the very next morning since he couldn't even sleep.
Hope Dennis feels better soon! Root canals are no joke!

Yep, and in addition to all that, we are going to Kennewick, WA tomorrow (after the root canal) for a couple of days for our niece's 40th surprise birthday and then a 4 or 5 day camping trip Labor Day. Nuts! We are just nuts! But we do pile on the fun! I will have to drive the 5 hours to Kennewick while Dennis dozes on pain meds.:sad2:

We have "dental insurance" that is a joke. They pay only for xrays and cleaning and only up to $75 for xrays and they pay a few dollars for fillilngs. That is it. All the rest is "not covered". A waste really but it comes with our health insurance so we file the claims for the few dollars on cleanings. Dennis is a pharmacist so he has his drugs of choice for pain, which I'm sure he will ask for. Vicodin is not one of them! I have not heard of Norco 10-325 but I'm sure Dennis has.

I can't believe that in 4 weeks from right now, we'll be over the Atlantic Ocean somewhere...where did the time go?
As for as dieting is concerned. I had hoped to lose a bunch of weight before the cruise, but my thyroid and PCOS had different ideas. I lost 2 pounds last week and gained 1.6 this week. Next week, I'll probably lose .6 pounds and then the following week, I'll gain 2. :confused3 I hate the fact that I only have so much control over the weight that I lose - I eat healthy overall and watch my portion sizes. It's just frustrating. Sigh...
I went to the doctor today for my shoulder. He ordered some x-rays and nothing is broken that he can see. I have an MRI scheduled for next Friday to see if there was any internal damage. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they find nothing.
I can't say that I've started to pack, but I've started a small pile! I have my FE kid's gifts and stuff in a bag on the floor in our bedroom. I'll probably end up packing like a day or two before we leave. :)
No documents yet...I wondering if they forgot about us? :sad1:
I still have the Xanex prescription in my purse...I need to get that filled and add that to my pile! :lmao:

We're in the same boat, and I just canceled the DCL excursion that I'd reserved since none of their options really worked for us. I think we're going to try to grab a taxi to the top of the rock, and look into options for getting back down. I don't know enough about how large the taxis are, but if there is one that holds 7 (or not one that holds 6) then you're welcome to come with us. Even if you decide to ditch us at the top, at least you'd be at the top!
I'd like to do the cable car in either Gibralter or Madeira, but my MIL is decidely anti cable car so I doubt I'll get the chance. Plus, I heard horror stories of the line for the cable car in Gibralter, and I figure that if DCL even goes to the trouble to warn about it then it must have the potential to be bad.

WARNING THIS IS A LONG POST!!
READ ONLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A ST MAARTEN TOUR
I have not been very happy with the DCL excursion in St Maarten so I have been chatting with grmmybetty (Bertty) about arranging a private tour with Bernard Tours (http://www.bernardstours.com/interest.htm). Most of the other people she has heard from are interested in parasailing on Orient Beach. John and I want to snorkel.
If after reading the text below and you are interested, either PM myself or Betty. If we get enough persons, we will do the tours.
Bernard Tours basic tour consists of the following stops.
1. Great Bay overlooking Phillipsburg and harbor.
2. Cayhill overlooking Simpson Bay marina.
3. Sunset Beach bar ( Maho Beach ) where you can see the planes land right over your head.
4. Marigot - open market (French Capital).
5. Hilltop at Orient Bay overlooking the beach.
6. Swim at Orient Beach for up to two hours, as time allows.
7. Return to Philipsburg.
A custom tour can combine part of the above itinerary and include either parasailing or snorkeling.
Betty told me this morning that she received an email from Bernard early this morning. Apparently the only place they have parasailing is Orient Beach. Dawn Beach and Baie Rouge have the best snorkeling on the island. She thinks the only way we can do a custom tour and hit both spots is to have 2 vans, one for each site. Since she have only 7 interested, it would be too difficult and expensive to do even one van with the numbers she has at this point.
Here is a snippet of their email conversation and our PM conversation:
BERNARD: The hrs will be from 9 to 3.pm we can hold up to 14 people on in the van but for every one to be comfortable i rather take 12 and if you get up to 12 people then it will be $45.00/per person, we also have 25 passenger van available.

BETTY: What is the difference between the private tour and the $35 per person tour booked individually? Are they both in the same size van? If so, why would one tour cost $10 more than the other?
BERNARD; Our group tour you only goes as per our itinerary on the website, you cant decide how long you can stay at any location, you will be joining other people on the van/bus up to 25 people and with your private tour the van is for you and your group only you can created your own itinerary stay as long as you desire at any location we will serve you drinks through out the day..
BETTY TO NOEL: Currently we have 7 people interested including yourself. The PROS of going on a private tour would mean that we are guaranteed in a van rather than a bus. We would have a choice on where else we would like to go. We would also have drinks served throughout the tour. The CONS are a higher price. $10 more per person doesn't seem much, but the cost would be higher if we do not get a minimum of 10.
Below in red text is the information I have compiled so far about snorkeling in St. Maarten:
The island of St Martin is surrounded on all sides by beautiful and unique coral reefs, which provide exceptional possibilities for snorkeling adventures the entire family can and will enjoy. St Martin snorkelingencompasses shoreline or boat snorkeling excursions with a large variety of unique marine life to explore. The most common things you will see underwater on your St Martin snorkel experience are surgeonfish, parrotfish, and grunts. However, on the south or east side of the island, snorkeling in St Maarten will allow you to view such marine life as hawksbill, leatherback, green turtles, and more.
You can find several St Martin snorkel shops offering you not only all the equipment you need for snorkeling or St Martin diving excursions, but will also give you all the pointers as to where you will find the best marine life, the best places for beginners, and even give you an idea of where the children will also be able to snorkel
St Martin snorkeling has visibility up to 100 feet and is many cases as far as 200 feet. The coral reefs are beautiful and unique as many offer sights that only exist in the Caribbean and sea life that call the area home.
The most popular places for St Martin snorkeling are Dawn Beach, Simpson Bay, and Mullet Beach.
Dawn Beach is a great place for your St Martin snorkel adventure with the reef running along side the beach. This area is often called the best diving spot on the seaside of the reef. If you plan to snorkel here, watch for the cross current and be careful when the trade winds are strong. Dawn Beach offers white powdery sand and is located on the eastern side of the island. This spot for snorkeling in St Maarten is not really the best for small children as the water can be rough at times. However, it is an awesome beach for the kids to build sand castles.

Update on Dennis' dental situation....needs 3 crowns replaced and a root canal on one of them.:sad2: So root canal tomorrow, temp crown on that one on Sept 2 after his cataract surgery on Aug 30. We did not have a dentist here in town and I gotta say we LOVE this guy. He is working thru his lunch tomorrow to do the root canal because he wants to get the pain gone before we travel. AND, he is going to show Dennis one of his guitars when we go in tomorrow. :lmao: Oh, and does not demand the massive amount of money up front. Which is a really good thing because we have an amazing vacation coming up :woohoo::dance3:and will need a couple of months to pay for the dental expenses. :thumbsup2
Poor Dennis!! What a lot of dental work!! However, it does sound like you have an amazing dentist. Good luck to Dennis on all that dental work!!

I fear the taxi tour won't be an option going single. I've read where you can go into town where there's a taxi line. For those of you who have been there before, do you know if they have like mini-vans that will take multiple people up and down the Rock?
For anyone else who's still researching their options for Gibraltar, I did find this informative post on Trip-Advisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187510-i1247-k3512671-Cruise_Ship_to_Cable_Car-Gibraltar.html) that started with a DCL 2010 EBTA cruiser!
John and I are going to do the Skywalk Combo (http://www.gibraltarinfo.gi/gibraltar-tickets.aspx). I am quoting from I think mdwoodman's post.
•Cable Car ticket (options single or return and child or adult)
•Multimedia Tour (hand held guide included in adult ticket only and for use exclusively within the Cable Car Top Station)
•Apes (The apes are wild animals and roam freely throughout the Upper Rock area. However they are usually seen at both the Cable Car Top and Middle Station otherwise known as Apes Den.)
•Nature Reserve entrance ticket - Entrance to: St Michael's Cave, Great Siege Tunnels, City Under Siege Exhibition, Moorish Castle and 100 Ton Gun. (this ticket must be redeemed at the Cable Cart ticket office BEFORE entering any of the sights.) The Nature Reserve ticket must be used on the same day as the Cable Car ticket, see below.)
•FREE Gibraltar Bus Pass (adult or child one day bus pass). This must be collected from the Gibraltarinfo kiosk on the Spanish side of the Gibraltar/Spanish land frontier.
(Note that the Bus Pass isn't really worthwhile, since we won't be going to the land frontier. However, cruise ships normally provide shuttle buses or it's only £1 each for the public bus.)
John and I decided e are going to take a taxi to collect the tickets. You are welcome to take the taxi with us to the border pick up the tour tickets if you are interested. Check it out and let us know.

I've heard other cruisers report that they 'ask' the school and are told they can't go. I'm not necessarily going to ask, I'm going to tell them he won't be there and find out what we can do to minimize the impact.
::yes:: that definitely seems to be the route to go. If you tell them that plans are already done and can't be cancelled, they usually will not be so put off. But do offer a solution and offer to be in e-mail contact. At least if they see that there is some effort, they won't resent it as much. There is a girl in April's class that goes to Columbia each Christmas and doesn't return until the last week in Jan. Her parents also just "tell" the school and it has always been ok'ed. Good Luck!

Kimberly,
last time we just found someone outside the terminal or a bit outside of it. It was a van that sat at least 6-8 people. It was about $40 euros and included the entrance into the caves. We didn't do the cable cars because a big group of DISsers had reserved it ahead of time and we didn't want to wait. I would not stress too much. Everything is rather close and if you can get a group together, you'll be fine. We basically did the same tour that DCL did bor about $20 euros less. Also, one of the persons that did the off-site tour with us was a kids club counselor. So don't worry, there'll be plenty of options.

I want to do the 5K and not get swept. :yay::yay:
I have a friend who will be doing the 5K in January. He found an iphone app Couch to 5K or something like that. It eases you into running. Laura (eeyorelover) is also doing the program (but not the WDW 5K) so she could tell you about it.
HI Steffy,
Yes, the app we got was called C25K. I downloaded it to my iPhone and it also works on an iTouch. I did however, find out that you can order it online also. If you haven't already looked into it - pm me if you want. I am on week 7 of 9 and may or may not finish just before I leave on the 1st. It is a good program. I hadn't run in over 27 years and swore up and down that I couldn't do it. It started me off slow (did it with a bunch of friends and we are within 1 day of each other) with the help of my friends, we are supporting each other. I started out literally not being able to run for 1 minute intervals and now I'm up to 25 minutes. Next Monday I'll be running for 28 min straight.
:teeth: I invited DH to start with me on the first day, I got laughed at by him, DD and DS. Tonight at dinner, we were discussing my son and how I beat I was when DH asked me how I was doing at the running. I mentioned that I had done 25 min today and he triple looked at me. He asked me 3 times - you ran, like literally for 25 min straight? :scared1: He couldn't believe me. He then said, wow - that means your in shape then? :lmao: Um, round is a shape. And hopefully, I'm getting there. Need about another 1/2 mile to complete the 5K.

Ok, today I went into Best Buy to "see" what they had. I got a $50 gift card for my birthday. I was going to buy iTunes cards with it to upload or download songs and audiobooks when I came across something that will work much better for me.
I've been downloading some maps and online tour guides for some of the places we are going too on the Med and TA. Well, I've been a bit worried because the battery doesn't seem to last as long as my old iPhone. So as I'm walking past the Apple section I come across a package by Griffin of a wall charger, car charger and a backup battery. It costs $59.99 but with my card it only cost me $15.64 to pay the difference.
The reserve battery will give you an additional 6 hr of music listening and video watching on an iPod Classic and on the iPhone #3G, it will give you an additional 1 1/2 hr of web time (if you surf a lot) and and additional 2 hrs of phone time. The reserve battery attaches to the bottom of the phone where you plug it in and the best part is that the wall charger can be used to charge both your spare battery and your iphone, ipod at the same time.
This particular package works for the following:
iPhone 3Gs - 16 & 32 GB,
iPhone 3G - 8 & 16GB
iPhone - 4, 8 and 16GB
iPod Nano (4th gen)
iPod Nano 5th Gen (video)
iPod Touch (1st gen)
iPod Touch (2nd gen)
iPod Classic
So just assuming anyone else has the same battery life problem I have, this might be something you want to look into also. I got mine at Best Buy in the Apple section and is made by Griffin. They have 2 versions of the package, one contains the 3 items I listed above namely the car charger, wall charger and a spare battery. The other version only carries the wall charger and the spare battery. But they both run $59.99. One says made for iPod Works with iPhone and the other says - Made for iPhone works with iPod. Either way, it works for both. But I needed a car charger so I got the 3 item one. This way I feel like I got more bang for my buck. :teeth:
Hopes this helps others.

You so totally rock! Thanks so much!
No problem. We got concierge to get them for us on the first day. I then took pics of each one and put them onto the iPad so we could plan our eating (which is our fav hobby lol) well in advance.
Concierge guests used to get them in a bound folder in the room by default, but apparently this isn't the case anymore, but Roderigo was great and got them all for us anyway.

We are also hoping to do the Panama canal cruise in January. My leave is now confirmed. Now I just have to crunch the numbers to see if we can afford this.
Corinna
I hope you can crunch your numbers positively for the PC cruise. then we can all go over to the thread and liven it up. It is nothing at all like this one!!
As far as feedback goes on the cruise I don't mind filling in the form either, but it is a long form, and it is always so frantic right at the end of the cruise.:headache: I hate the 'speech', and always think that means the servers are a little insecure in their performance, so should up it anyway. I would hate to ruin a server's job by mentioning something too bad. We had friends on one cruise who had the most fantastic server in every way, and others on previous cruises felt the same about him, but they found out later that he had been fired after that cruise because he had upset one old lady. It seems they aren't given too many chances.
I always mention CM's who have given good service as it is important to them.
Awesome! I have a feeling we'll see pink, silver, and maybe even white Ears! My Minnie Ears are on a headband, not a cap, so mine will be "different", too.
I'm looking forward to seeing all the gear. We weren't brought up on Mickey Mouse club over here, so it doesn't hold that appeal, but it doesn't mean I won't enjoy seeing you all.
NO NO NO NO! If you do your checkin online and print them out and bring them to the port to sign, you shouldn't even have any in your book. But you must not have done it online yet. There's still time........
The contract and signature form, plus some others are in the cruise documents. Great if you forget to print your online form out.

I remember reading that!!! :sad2:
The feedback form is something we've taken quite seriously in the past and have been more than happy to fill in - wish we'd had them for our builders. Anyway, I only remember receiving 'the speech' once from the servers themselves and that was back in May 2008. On that trip I'd been a little underwhelmed and was in no mood to be trifled with so they got short shrift. I think the Head Server (John from Scotland?) gave it in August 2008 but he did in such a way that it wasn't annoying or obsequious at all. I really thought he and his team were excellent - I don't think he's on the Magic anymore... We always make a point of identifying CMs that have gone above and beyond - which is quite tough for me as I'm hopeless with names... Seriously, I keep a note of those who have made a difference so they're not forgotten... :goodvibes

Hello all....well after a couple of tough days....well weeks actually....I am happy to report my DD is feeling better....know how I know....she is getting fiesty and argumentative.....she had another cath scan today and we do not have the results yet....but she now wants to eat and they are allowing her soft pureed food.....sounds wonderful....but she is making positive strides and I thank all for the pixie dust and prayers.....my wife and I were starting to talk about maybe having to cancel the cruise the other day.....but tonight we had a nice talk about 4 weeks from tomorrow we will be flying out....and we already have put a backup plan in place....my MIL lives in Georgia and in an emergency would fly in to stay with DD.....again....THANKS!

I remember reading that!!! :sad2:
The feedback form is something we've taken quite seriously in the past and have been more than happy to fill in - which we'd had them for our builders. :goodvibes
We haven't had a really fantastic room host in all 5 cruises, though only one who we thought wasn't actually doing a good job. He was the only room host to mention the feedback and almost asked us to mention him by name, and he is actually the only room host we haven't mentioned!!! We had a sweet little Indian man on our last cruise. I think he was new and he was lovely. He is the only room host who has ever come back specially to thank us for our tip, and we have always given more than the recommended amount.
I always find the giving out of the tip envelopes a hugely embarrassing thing, I really do. It kind of spoils the final night's dinner waiting all 'secretly' with the envelopes for the appropriate time.:headache:

Previous post catch up
gpb_1 -> On the WBTA last time we did the DCL transport too and had a tour of Barcelona on the way to the port. Might have been due to arriving at around 9am to get to the port ASAP but it was a great little tour with a few photo stops.
Futurist -> There were 2 shops in the port. Very small duty free shops! That was it!
Valbob89 -> will update the FE details sorry!
OH and I now have DOCUMENTS!!!
Ours also says we have an onboard credit for online booking which I think was $50! We should also have $200 for that letter fiasco but doesn't say!
YEAH!! We are here - do you think this will be the last before the cruise?
Probably not knowing us

Hi everyone
what are these what do they entail whats the food, I know that the pirates of the caribbean people can and do dress up .. on the 28th is the mickey mouse club house t shirts (which i guess is unofficial and purely DIS)
so whats the deal with the different theme meals whats so special about the night that is villians or prince and princess menu - will there be characters out that fit the theme?
Thanks
Jason
On a really early post I had copies of the menus attached from the last TA. The themes mainly relate to food. The Villians night however is a themed night as well so there may be other Villian stuff going on. The others are just menu nights.
Here's the menus
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28718645&postcount=3004
Farewell to the Caribbean (similar to the Welcome to Caribbean) (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28720890&postcount=3014)
Transatlantic Menu (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28721292&postcount=3016)
Prince & Princess Menu (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28721696&postcount=3018)
There are more if you want them but these were the ones I think that differ from those shown!

Not me but I think she should indicate people should if at all possible bring their own media, preferably a USB memory stick. If they are going to upload, the need to fill up their camera sticks before they download to a USB sticks. I think we would prefer to do it more toward the end of the cruise but will do whatever people need.
Just my thoughts...

I hope you can crunch your numbers positively for the PC cruise. then we can all go over to the thread and liven it up. It is nothing at all like this one!!
I checked out the cost of the PC cruise on DCL website as I thought, mmm maybe, if I like this solo cruising thing, I could try that... ;) Not a chance - it's double the cost of this one!!! I'll just have to wait until the Wonder comes back to the East Coast - if she ever does... :cool2:

Our next planned trip is at Christmas. Our oldest daughter, who is doing a professional internship with Disney, just told us she's in the Candlelight Processional choir! So, we have to go see her sing!

What a wonderful Christmas treat for you!
So, when are you telling his school about this cruise? My older son started school this week and I haven't told them about the cruise yet. When we booked this, he was being homeschooled. My younger son is still homeschooled and I have already notified his principal. :rotfl:Any suggestions on telling the other school about the cruise?
my kids are only back three days before we leave so i was just going to go the due to unavoidable circumstances the children will be absent for approx. 2+ weeks..."

We are looking to swap our home in Celebration, FL (next door to WDW) for someplace in Europe for a few weeks next summer (Jul or AUG).
Rene
We love Celebration. however Dubai is far from Europe and summer is a bad time to go there.
So far we are only planning a week at DVC Hawaii which opens in August 2011. Probably in October sometime.
We'll book some dummy dates on board for the Fantasy in 2012 and hopefully something on the Dream sometime next year; followed by a week or two at WDW.
We are looking forward to DVC Hawaii

It sounds like you all have some great cruise plans. We have no set future cruises picked out yet, but would love to do Alaska, and Hawaii and the PC and well pretty much anything as long as it is long.:rotfl:
Two other things we are hoping to do sometime are;
Driving around California -or perhaps even branching out further and doing Vegas to SanFran. We might manage this next summer.
And i would love to do the Adventures by Disney Peru - that may be the year after if i can juggle our points well.

:lmao:
Glad there's no break and hope the MRI is OK!

IKWYM!!! ::yes:: Richard always does it, so I'm just going to have to steel myself this time. Actually, I've just remembered - we forgot once! I think we ate at Palo on the final night or something. Anyway, Richard had prepaid so it was just the slips that were in the envelope and we completely forgot to give those out. When we realised, he rang DCL and they confirmed that the servers would've received their tips anyway so we weren't too distressed..

I'm so jealous that you get to live in Celebration! We went last year and I just loved it! I told Gus one way or another we have to have a house there someday!
It has been our dream for 12 years. We bought our house 12 years ago with the goal of it being our retirement home. We rented it out all that time. In April we finally got to move here and it has been everything that I expected and more. We are in paradise! And it doesn't hurt that I am withing spitting distance of WDW. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

OMG, 2011 is my year of vacations - 5 DCL cruises!!!! :cool1: :dance3: :cool1:
it is!
We have 3 planned next year- well technically 4 but 2 of them are B2B (taking to Alaska then Alaska) - then Dream in August and Dream over new years.
I keep thinking we'll probably cancel the one in August but.. then I don't. It's hard to cancel it when it's so cheap!!!!!! And I'm not sure I can wait till end of Dec to go on the Dream. *sigh* We'll have to see how finances are about time to pay for it and see. If we lived closer it'd be a no brainer but we gotta factor in either a long drive there and back, or flight costs.
That's the way I always did it.
Sometimes some principals would seem to think I was asking and say things like we'll leave it up to the teachers and I'd go tell them and they never had a problem with it- but I wasn't really asking... I was telling. haha
I got some of those reserve batteries that plug onto the bottom for like $10 each on meritline.com -- and they work! I've already tested them out! :) And they shipped fast everytime I've ordered from them.
Just thought I'd mention that in case someone just wants the reserve battery pack and wants it cheap as possible yet works.. or can't get to a best buy or something. :)
soooo.. what kind of clothes are people packing (for daily wear- I don't mean dinners) for this cruise? I mentioned it previously but I'm really curious what the majority are planning on wearing. I was in normal cruise mode thinking shorts and maybe capris, mostly wearing flipflops, never needed a jacket or sweater or anything on previous cruises, etc.- but then I see Barcelona (we'll be there 3 days) is low 70's that time of year.. and that's kinda chilly for us Texans. Will it be that cold or colder most of the cruise as well? I really need some help in what to pack....... pretty please?

I'm thinking the same type of clothes you are and then bringing a wrap or a sweater to wear with each. I color-coordinated so it isn't as many wraps as it sounds like. If nothing else I'm thinking that the wind out at sea might be a little chilly. This is my first cruise so I'm not sure but I'd rather pack a few extra pieces rather than be cold all the time.

Were doing pc cruise, nothing for summer, pm me, noe sure we would swap but I may be going somewhwre in scotland, weve justa little house though, 1 bedroom and a sofa bedroom.
I have a 4 night mini-trip to WDW in January during the marathon. I hope to get medically cleared by then to start training. I want to do the 5K and not get swept. :yay::yay:
My tag says it all. I overcome my post Disney depression by planning another trip. If I don't have another trip in the hopper, I would have to be carried off the ship. It wouldn't be pretty.:sad2::sad2:

Noel,
You only have to go to the border to pick up the bus pass if you want to use it (the taxi to get there will be more than the bus pass is worth, so I'm going to skip it). Here's the info I got back when I ordered my tickets on line:
"2 SkyWalk Combo Adult Single @ £17.50
Total: £36.00
** Please Note **
Your ticket can be used from the day after purchase and is valid for 6 months.
You need to bring ID with you when collecting your ticket. ID is also required for use of the Multimedia Tour.
On rare occassions, during bad weather, the cable car closes. Should this happen you can obtain a refund from the cable car base station."
So, you can just print out the e-mail that they send you and take that to the cable car to collect your tour ticket.

We have DCL Alaska July 2011 booked. I'm having difficulty getting excited about this one. :confused3 Dennis is looking forward to it though. I hope to get something booked for 2012 when that is released. Fantasy or maybe Dream depending on where they are going. We can book a dummy date if needed. I too like the longer, special itineraries. :thumbsup2
IKWYM, when we sailed Alaska on HAL through DVC, I wasn't excited either. I can tell you I loved it. The scenery was incredible. The ports of call were good. It was a different feeling than the Carribean, everyone just seemed more laid back. The weather was cold, we went in mid-August. You will love it, especially since you will be on the Wonder.

i have to admit disneyland paris looks great
i just wish the CM's would take more CM classes in the USA
some are great but its just not magical or that top disney service
I was talking to my hubby (glenn) about the survey's and he said why do they not have resort guests fill out surveys? The cruise staff works 4 times as hard. He said he would take all the different nationalities on the cruise over the USA staff.
Sadly the more they expand the college program the more the quality of sevice go down at WDW. I have notice a big change in the last few years.
As for cruise survey I would like one to include before the cruise. Like how they could improve their air travel desk. I am still annoyed that they make no mention to the airlines that they have guests using mobility devices.
After 1 hour and 30 minutes and that is no lie. ( Over 2 days) i got my travel organized. To me that is the disney's air travel desk responsibility. If I had a travel agent who booked my flights they would do it. Will never book air travel with disney again. Much easier to do it myself.
The fact that some have a fuel credit others do not. This is all part of the cruise experience.
Also there is no room to right much at the end of the survey. I would like the opportunity to fill out a survey on line. Westjet does this :)
The website is also part of the cruise experience. Which many people found frustrating while trying to book palo, excursions etc.
For me it is the lack of accessible excursions. I wrote disney about how their should be a tab for mobility challenged. Like they have a tab for mild moderate etc. Since I I spent hours looking at each place to only be disappointed.
They said they are woking on this. Well I am sorry most of the excursions are the same as they were 2 years ago. I think the real reason is if they had a tab it would have basically nothing on it. That would make disney look bad.
The tab should have info on what is accessible like some of the disers here have given for different ports.
I understand that they do not run the excursions. But if Birkner can work it out so I can go I am sure disney could have.
I am so excited that after 6 cruises this is my first excursions. Birkner went way beyond the call of volunteering to make sure all my questions were asked.
Disney does not really do this.
So I think the pre cruise stuff is really important because it sets the tone.
But I must say some of the suggestions I have written them have been added on the ship. So I know they do listen.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes... I'll get over not scuba diving, long as I can fly! stupid ear and sinuses. :(
haha
i wonder if there are really people out there that get the email and go "oh yeah, I totally forgot we're going to be cruising in a month. I'm so glad we got that email to remind us" LOL
:rotfl:
That's the way I always did it.
Sometimes some principals would seem to think I was asking and say things like we'll leave it up to the teachers and I'd go tell them and they never had a problem with it- but I wasn't really asking... I was telling. haha
I am packing mostly shorts and capris for the daytime. Depending on my spa days, a bathing suit and cover-up and always my crocs. I would go barefoot if I could!!!

Hello all....suggestions needed from the experts....my DW and I h ave never been on anything but a Caribbean or Bahamas cruise....so when we go to Europe and go to Gibralter and Madiera we will be there for the first time. We would like to see the places but do not know what the best type of tour for us to take. We are not water people so no need to go to the beach. Any suggestions from you guys....I know it would probably be smarter to just book with DCL...but it always tends to be more expensive.....we definately want to see the Rock in Gibralter but Madiera is up in the air.....I am one that usually would love to just stay on the ship but don't know if we will ever go back so would like to see some of the countries....any direction you can steer us in would be helpful and most appreciated!

We are doing a Gilbralta excursion through DCL. We found, on our first Disney cruise, that the excursions weren't terribly expensive. We booked "the Rock on your own". The cost is just $42 pp. In Madeira, some of the DISers have organized a private tour. There is information about that earlier in the thread.

Hi all,
With all the talk of excursions of late, last night I was playing around with something I started a month ago, but never got around to completing. In part I wasn't sure if everyone would want to do this, so I'd like to get feedback before I complete it.
The idea is that we could create a list of all the events (room tour, champagne girls, drink tastings, etc.) and DCL excursions, then people could enroll in the events in which they are participating, and that way we could all see what each others are doing, as well as getting head counts and such. I thought it would be nice if you are going on an excursion to know what friendly faces to look for.
Like anything else, the key is participation, if most people would not want to participate, it wouldn't be worth the effort.
The way I have the registration working is that you would login just like for updating the rollcall, but now have an option to edit events.
http://www.transatlanticpirates.com/images/event_login.jpg
Once you click on the 'Event' link, you would see a list of events. The list is sorted first by events you are attending, then chronological. By clicking on a single event, you would see details below.
http://www.transatlanticpirates.com/images/event_list.jpg
You would then click on the 'Edit' button, and from there can enroll in the event, as well as select the members and number of your party attending. By default these will initially appear with all stateroom members attending.
http://www.transatlanticpirates.com/images/event_edit.jpg
I'd like to get feedback to see if people would be interested in doing this. Right now only the sign-up part is complete, but I could have the list of events and event detail pages completed pretty quickly.
Please feel free to play around, but the data is just test data, and will be deleted if/when we set up all the events/excursions.

Aaargh, hope it all goes ok. He is very last minute with everything isn't he?
:lmao::rotfl2:Yes, he is. Always has been. :confused3
We have family and friends that have done Alaska cruises and they all loved it. But, for me....I've seen moose, bear, elk, deer, walked on glaciers, etc. I live in the north woods so I am just having difficulty getting really excited. I'm sure we will have a great time and perhaps after this trip is done and settled I will start to get more excited about it. We are going to rebook it onboard to get OBC and perhaps reduce the price a bit.
A small thing overall and slightly off topic...
My DD Lilian lost her first tooth today. She is very excited. :cheer2:
My baby is growing up.:goodvibes :sad1::yay:
:goodvibes a milestone. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2
When in July??
I haven't told them yet. I tried last week at registration but the right people were not available. I may try again tomorrow if I can leave work early. I plan on asking for independent study for the 2 weeks but letting them know that whether its granted or not, he will not be at school. I've heard other cruisers report that they 'ask' the school and are told they can't go. I'm not necessarily going to ask, I'm going to tell them he won't be there and find out what we can do to minimize the impact.
Might ask about independent study. I just figured he'd have to make up the work. I'll be telling, not asking.
Norco and Vicodin both have the same active ingredients--hydrocodone and acetominophen, so must have been a different strength.
I always find the giving out of the tip envelopes a hugely embarrassing thing, I really do. It kind of spoils the final night's dinner waiting all 'secretly' with the envelopes for the appropriate time.:headache:We make the boys give out the tip envelopes. Gets them used to the custom of tipping.

My only concern would be that I have already booked directly with Bernard.
If we get a group tour, I would want to snorkel. Not interested in the added expense of parasailing.

:thumbsup2
Sounds like what I just went through!! Hug Dennis for me - hope that he is pain free soon!!

It sounds like you all have some great cruise plans. We have no set future cruises picked out yet, but would love to do Alaska, and Hawaii and the PC and well pretty much anything as long as it is long.:rotfl:
Two other things we are hoping to do sometime are;
Driving around California -or perhaps even branching out further and doing Vegas to SanFran. We might manage this next summer.
And i would love to do the Adventures by Disney Peru - that may be the year after if i can juggle our points well.
If you ever get out to San Francisco, let us all know so we can arrange a mini meet for all the DIS San Francisco Bay residents!

Noel,
You only have to go to the border to pick up the bus pass if you want to use it (the taxi to get there will be more than the bus pass is worth, so I'm going to skip it).
How do you get to the cable car from the ship? How much will it cost? Shall we all follow you guys?
I could make a Disney sign for you like for the Madeira tour that says "Follow Michael to St. Michaels...
Sorry I am so bad but couldn't resist. Mea Culpa :worship:
However, it was a serious question about how do we get to the cable car and how much will it cost.

What a very nice thing to say about the tour I planned in Madeira. I am very flattered!!

My only concern would be that I have already booked directly with Bernard.
If we get a group tour, I would want to snorkel. Not interested in the added expense of parasailing.
If we get a tour going, couldn't you just email him that you are joining our tour instead? I am only interested in a private tour that includes snorkeling. Not interested in going to Orient Beach. Let me know via PM if you both want to join us.

As of right now we have the Dream 3/3 with a couple of days at DW and Alaska 8/30 booked. Thinking about changing to Med cruise that stops in Cannes instead of Alaska. Also will book the new DVC Hawaii for 2010 with stops at DL when we have more points in Feb 2011. DVCer's talk about banking points but we always have to borrow!!
We are DVC`ers too - have borrowed up to 2012 :rolleyes1

May 2011 - B2B Disney Dream (DH Birthday)
Oct 2011 - RCCL - Serenade of the Seas (Southern) - 20th Anniv.
Dec 2011 - 3 day - Disney Dream - Girls trip
Our rule of thumb is to plan the next vacation before we leave on the current vacation.
We usually do that - though I should say I usually do that ;) However nothing else planned so far :confused3

Anyone needing to fly back from Orlando to San Francisco Oct 6-Nov 17, take note:
From the Travelzoo Newsdesk:
SAN FRANCISCO--AUGUST 20, 2010-- This morning, Virgin
America reduced fares on nonstop fall flights to Orlando
from San Francisco to $129 each way. This is an additional
$50 off already-discounted prices on this new route.
Travel Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday from Oct. 6, when
service begins, through Nov. 17. Flights on Fridays and
Sundays are $20 more.
The sale ends at 11:59 p.m. PT Aug. 30.
Is there a place in the navigator or anywhere were it lists what time all the tastings, ladies tea and pink girls are? I've signed up for things, but now can't remember when they all are.
Thanks!

There are no vacation dates available. Please choose another itinerary or another month. If you have entered a special offer code, it could be invalid.

Even if you decide to ditch us at the top, at least you'd be at the top....
John and I are going to do the Skywalk Combo (http://www.gibraltarinfo.gi/gibraltar-tickets.aspx)....John and I decided e are going to take a taxi to collect the tickets. You are welcome to take the taxi with us to the border pick up the tour tickets if you are interested. Check it out and let us know.
....Kimberly,
last time we just found someone outside the terminal or a bit outside of it. It was a van that sat at least 6-8 people....Everything is rather close and if you can get a group together, you'll be fine....
Thanks so very much the offers and insights!!! :flower3: I'm determined to come to a conclusion before the weekend's over as to how I plan to manage this, so I'll let you know!

Here's the menus

Farewell to the Caribbean (similar to the Welcome to Caribbean) (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28720890&postcount=3014)
Transatlantic Menu (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28721292&postcount=3016)
Prince & Princess Menu (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28721696&postcount=3018)
There are more if you want them but these were the ones I think that differ from those shown!

Hi all,
With all the talk of excursions of late, last night I was playing around with something I started a month ago, but never got around to completing.
Glenn

soooo.. what kind of clothes are people packing (for daily wear- I don't mean dinners) for this cruise? I mentioned it previously but I'm really curious what the majority are planning on wearing. I was in normal cruise mode thinking shorts and maybe capris, mostly wearing flipflops, never needed a jacket or sweater or anything on previous cruises, etc.- but then I see Barcelona (we'll be there 3 days) is low 70's that time of year.. and that's kinda chilly for us Texans. Will it be that cold or colder most of the cruise as well? I really need some help in what to pack....... pretty please?
I`m confident that Spain, Gib and Madeira will be warm enough for my usual linen pants & tshirts or summer dresses.
For the Caribbean it`ll be hot weather stuff. So for the possible cold days at sea I have a hoody I bought on the Baltic cruise and I will live in that.
I`m a Brit and upper 60`s is a warm summer day for us!

I did this on our last ( and only ) cruise. I mentioned our wonderful servers etc by name and then I emailed DCL on our return and reiterated how wonderful the cruise was and named names. They emailed me back and said they would let the named individuals know and also theirmanagers. So it's all worth it :thumbsup2:thumbsup2
I always find the giving out of the tip envelopes a hugely embarrassing thing, I really do. It kind of spoils the final night's dinner waiting all 'secretly' with the envelopes for the appropriate time.:headache:
When exactly is the appropriate time by the way :confused3 the last evening or the last morning ??
Ours also says we have an onboard credit for online booking which I think was $50! We should also have $200 for that letter fiasco but doesn't say!
Our docs don't mention any OBC yet we have some from DU and also the letter !!! Where does it say it?

Also on Monday my daughter gave birth to my second grandchild, a tiny boy with lots of black hair. Who is absolutley gorgeous of course.
Congratulations on the birth of your grandson
Hi all,
With all the talk of excursions of late, last night I was playing around with something I started a month ago, but never got around to completing.
I thought it would be nice if you are going on an excursion to know what friendly faces to look for.
reat idea ... this would be really cool :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

So I know they do listen.
hi
well i have found the website to be ok - used alot worse when i needed to talk to someone well they have been very helpful and friendly
but yes the pre cruise is all important first impressions is absolutely key
in terms of questions this thread has been so helpful

I`m confident that Spain, Gib and Madeira will be warm enough for my usual linen pants & tshirts or summer dresses.
For the Caribbean it`ll be hot weather stuff. So for the possible cold days at sea I have a hoody I bought on the Baltic cruise and I will live in that.
I`m a Brit and upper 60`s is a warm summer day for us!
I'm with you on this!! This year 70 deg is a hot day!!! I am taking cropped trousers for Bareclona and hope to be able to wear them. I will travel in long trousers so will have those for cooler/wet days. Shorts will have to wait till onboard(hopefully) and at the other end.
When exactly is the appropriate time by the way :confused3 the last evening or the last morning ??
Low 70s is really warm for us Brits so I was planning on taking skirts and tops and dresses for the daytime ... with cardies / shrugs in case of chilly winds.
They always seem too busy on the final morning to give them their tips somehow.
Oh, I seem to have loads of cardi's to take with me. It would be nice not to have to wear any.:rotfl2:
Thank you all of you.

I can post pictures that I actually have on my computer, via Photobucket, but I haven't got the hang of downloading them to the computer from my camera yet. John has to do that.

Unless you have already paid Bernard for the tour, you can cancel. Some of the others who have expressed interest in a private tour have also booked with Bernard. The cost would only be a little higher, but we are assured of a van with no more than 12 people. Additionally we will be getting drinks through out the day. We have a little more freedom to choose where we want to go. Even if you go to Orient Beach, you do not have to parasail. That is just one many of the activities available at Orient Beach. Dawn Beach is fairly undeveloped when compared with Orient Beach. It is quieter and less crowded. The bonus is great snorkeling. Sunning and swimming are available at both beaches. PM me if you are interested in either tour option.
My only concern would be that I have already booked directly with Bernard.
If we get a group tour, I would want to snorkel. Not interested in the added expense of parasailing.
