Some of you may remember when my Golden Retriever Comet died in February. That was back when my Mom-to-3 log-in worked. We've discussed getting another dog, but instead decided to become a Foster Home for a Golden Retriever Rescue Group. If we eventually want to adopt one, we can. Most placements will last for a week or two. My kids understand that we are taking care of these dogs before they go to their new home.
Our first placement is coming Sunday after church. A 10-month-old female named Sugar! I'm excited and nervous!

one word of adivec..puppy proof the house! We have my labrodor retriever, which we got in early june, one of the things she loves to do is get things off the tabel and run with them around the house..she is really fast..apperently she thinks that that is playing..she's bitten about 5 holes in my pants..be prepared. I love her, but she is very destructive.

We got a Golden in June, he is the sweetest thing. He's huge though, so prepare yourself. LOL

iLovDisney......I'm so happy for you !!!! Goldens are the most wonderful dogs. We lost our Bailey a year ago and are just now thinking about getting another. Seems like we just couldn't bring ourselves to get another Golden.
What a great thing you are doing. If there was a Golden Retriever Rescue here, I'd join them in a heartbeat.
Good luck with your foster "children".

Golden's are just so loveable. What a great thing you are doing. How will you keep from getting attached though?

That's wonderful to hear! My cousin does this with greyhounds (and she adopted one she was just going to be a "foster mom" to :teeth: ) I hope you enjoy Sugar while she is with you :)

We have 2 goldens, an 11 year old and a 1 year old. I wouldn't have any other kind of dog but the 1 year old is just getting out of that puppy chewing age. He is also extremely high energy which works out great because so are my kids. They tire each other out.

What a wonderful thing you are doing, but I too wonder how long it will take you to become attached? We took in a stray dog last year with the intent to foster and it sure didn't take long for him to become part of the family. ;)

Congratulations on your new foster puppy! I've fostered greyhounds for a rescue group, and it's a lot of fun (and sometimes a big challenge!) getting to know the dogs' different personalities! You're doing a wonderful thing! :)

It's funny, but the kids seem to understand that we're just "babysitting" until the dogs go to their new homes.
The one that's coming, for instance, wasn't up-to-date on her shots, hadn't been spayed, stayed outside all the time, and the owners wanted the Rescue folks to hurry over because they were going out of town! We'll give her love and tell her that better days are coming with a nice family. I imagine we'll eventually adopt one... but we can still keep fostering -- my mini-van seats 7! :p

This is a GREAT cause.
My DW donates veterinary services for the Mid-Florida Golden Retriever Rescue. Anytime you can save a Golden from a bad existence or euthenasia, it's time well spent.
At least our 6 GR's think so !!!
