Okay, we just joined a DVD rental club (we don't have access to a good video store) and I am looking for some DVD recommendations. What movies are must-see movies, not just okay movies, but really great movies. I like action-adventure, drama, romance and comedies. I hate scary movies and sci-fi.

Thanks for your help.

Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings.

Peter Pan 2 is okay.

Clockstoppers was fun.

Not a new one, but I *really* enjoyed the remake of the Thomas Crown Affair with Pierce Brosnan

John Q! I LOVED this movie!

Also (I've seen these in the past few weeks);:

A Beautiful Mind - a Classic

The Fugitive -- Gotta have my Tommy Lee fix! :teeth:

A *really* good movie (and one of my favs) is The Usual Suspects. It's suspense/mystery/action all rolled into one. If you don't like bad language though, don't get it. There is alot but it isn't blatant...it it fitting.

A Walk to Remember
John Q
A Beautiful Mind
Dragonfly

Can't remember what else we've rented lately!

This one goes back quite a few years, but it came up at work today: The Shawshank Redemption. It's one great movie. Did you see Atlantis? Great animation/effects and if you have surround sound with your DVD, it's great.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Rajah, Is Harry Potter Lord of the Rings the second Harry Potter movie? I remember hearing something about the Socerer's Stone....is this one before or after?

I have seen A Beautful Mind, Shawshank Redemption, The Wedding Planner, A Walk To Remember, Save The Last Dance, Return to Me and the Fugitive and have liked them all.

I haven't seen John Q, Dragonfly, The Green Mile, Moulin Rouge or Usual Suspects, what are they about?

Anyone else?

Tiggerlover Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are two different movies. Both are great. When is comes out get the Rookie your ds will love it. He will probably like Snow Dogs also.

Have you ever seen the Parent Trap? One of my favorites.

I love extras in DVDs & can't remember the last time I rented a VHS tape.
I assume you mean movies that have come out in the last five years or so, so here's what I would go with:
Fight Club
X-Men
Snatch
Usual Suspects
LA Confidential
The Patriot
Gladiator
The Sopranos season DVDs
The Sixth Sense
The Mask Of Zorro
The Mummy & Returns
Analyze This
Something About Mary
You've Got Mail
Meet The Parents
Shrek
O Brother, Where Art Thou

If you're looking for classics:
Airplane
Naked Gun
Dirty Dozen
Vacation
The Marx Bros.
Casablanca
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
Blues Brothers
The 007 flicks
& when all else fails...you can never go wrong with a Hitchcock flick! :smooth:

My favorite movie of late is Oceans Eleven. We actually bought the DVD, something I rarely do, but DH and I liked it so much we decided we need a copy of it.
