I think we are in!
"We interupt this family for football" Is the theme of this cruise for us!
We were supposed to go on the cruise 2 weeks prior to this...but looks like Austin's Football Schedule...may disrupt the plans a bit! :scared1:
So this is our Plan B! :cutie:
This will be our second DCL cruise and 5th Disney Trip overall.
Count us in for FE
It looks like there will be 20-25 family and friends joining us in our group.

We did our first FE on the 2010 Member cruise in Sept. We had around 60 people icluding kids signed up. It was great fun. Looking forward to doing it on this cruise. Someone will have to keep track of who has signed up and know their cabins and names and ages of kids. IM assuming once we get going with this thread hopefully more will join the thread and get to know everyone and sign up for FE. I saw a photo of the hallway on the DREAM, they hadnt put any fish up yet:confused3. Im assuming they will have something because of how popular it is on the ship.

Hello! We will be on the 12/4 cruise too! As of now it'll be DH, myself, DD who will be 2 this Jan and DS who is due Dec 5th. We took DD to WDW for her first birthday so we decided to take DS on a cruise for his first. This will be our second cruise, we took our first this past Aug. Although it is just the 4 of our for now, I wouldn't be surprised if my in laws come. They all came down to WDW for DD first birthday. We are taking a big family trip in May to a dude ranch so I'm not sure if they'll be up for a second vacation in the same year but I hope so.

IT IS SET UP WITH CABIN NUMBER, DISBOARD NAME, FIRST NAME WITH DH or DW or DD or DS ETC AFTER NAME, FINALLY AGE. ONLY PUT AGE DOWN IF THE PERSON IS CHILD OR TEEN, I WILL JUST PUT CHILD AT HEART FOR ADULT:rotfl2: WE DONT KNOW OUR CABIN NUMBER YET BUT WHEN WE DO I WILL PUT THAT ON THE LIST. ONCE I FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET LIST FROM MY FILE TO DISBOARD I CAN POST AN UPDATE WHEN CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE ADDED LET ME KNOW BY SENDING INfORMATION ON PRIVATE MESSAGE TO ME. I APPRECIATE ANY SUGGESTIONS. IM SURE ONCE WE ARE LESS THAN A YEAR UNTIL THE CRUISE MORE PEOPLE WILL FIND THE THREAD.

Hi Scotty!
Thanks for the welcome! I'm so excited about this cruise...excited and nervous. I'm not sure how I'll handle the movement. I get motion sickness and I'm hoping that I wont feel it on this big ship.

WELCOME MELISSA!!! BY THE TIME THIS DISNEY CRUISE ROLLS AROUND IT WILL BE OUR 8th. IVE SEEN PEOPLE ON THE SHIP WEARING THOSE PATCHES ON THERE NECKS FOR MOTION. THE SHIPS ARE BIG AND THEY HAVE STABILIZERS. IF THERE IS GOING TO BE BAD WEATHER THEY WILL TRY TO AVOID IT. THE CLOSER YOU ARE TO THE MIDDLE THE LESS YOU FEEL THE MOVEMENT. WE HAVE ONLY ENCOUNTERED ROUGH SEAS ONCE . THAT WAS COMING BACK ON THE LAST NIGHT FROM CC TO PORT CANAVERAL. WE WERE FOLLOWING A TROPICAL STORM UP THE EAST COAST. THE SKIES WERE CLEAR BUT THERE WAS A WIND. BUT WE SLEPT THRU IT. BUT IN DEC YOU ARE PAST THE STORM SEASON.

GOOD MORNING. We found out what the FE was last year. Only on Disney cruises do you have FEs.
http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab157/dvcdeernut/P9130233.jpg
Thats what an FE looks like. FE stands for Fish Extender. Everytime we cruised Disney we noticed these cloth hangers with pockets hanging off the Fish beside the door. Last year I signed us up for the FE on the DVC member cruise. We will be doing it again on the member cruise in Sept. We had about 60 people signed up including the Kids. About 20 cabins. ITs fun! As the year goes by on the thread before the cruise Cruisers sign up on the thread and one of the Posters runs the FE. I will try to keep track of this one if nobody else will. What you do is bring either something you made or bought for each person on the list. An inexpensive little gift. For example we are from Canada so i brought something related to where im from. Then once your on the ship sometime during the cruise you go around to the Cabins on the list and slip something in their pockets. And everyone else will be doing it to yours. Its a fun thing to add to an already fun filled cruise. Any further questions I know someone will answer them:thumbsup2

Hi Everyone,
My boyfriend and I are booked on this cruise. We are booked in a Category 6A aft balcony room, on deck 8...we just got back in November from our first Disney cruise on the Wonder and it was amazing. The crew, the shows, the food and the island...all unbelieveable. Can't wait to experience the Dream!
Before the trip, we are staying a night or two at Bay Lake Tower or Animal Kindgom Concierge (if we can get it with DVC, at 7 monthes), then we are doing Bay Lake Tower after the trip for 10 or 11 days.
Our trip will include me, Valerie (34, 35 at sailing) and my boyfriend, Joe (31, 32 at sailing). We are from just outside Boston in Winchester, Massachusetts and are DVC owners and love Disney. We have no kids. Really looking forward to talking to everyone on the sailing!

Thank you both for the warm welcome. I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend.
We live just north of Boston in Winchester, MA. Right next to Arlington, and Burlington, MA. It is a small bedroom community and we love it here.
We did our first Disney Cruise in October on the Wonder and really enjoyed it. We are both very excited about sailing on the Dream. Me personally, I can't wait to try the Aqua Duck and revisit Castaway Cay. We plan on hitting Atlantis on this trip (never been) and after the cruise staying at WDW at Bay Lake Tower for 10 or 11 days. We love the decorations at Christmas and very much look forward to chatting with everyone and counting down til our cruise!

Count us in for this cruise!!!!!
It will be our 2nd cruise with the mouse...... First one was Dec 5th! Cast is myself.....Cheryl, my DH....Sean and our DD13.
We would LOVE to do FE! We did it on our last cruise and it just adds to the magic of cruising with Disney! Our Stateroom Host wanted to know who were all the people dropping gift bags off at our room :lmao: He was always collecting them and putting them in our room because he was afraid someone might take them.

Hi Everyone,
Happy New Year!
Just thought I'd drop a quick note and say hi. Just wondering what deck and cabin type, everyone is booking. We finally settled on a 6A Aft cabin, on deck 8. Anyone have experience with aft cabins? Thought it may be quieter. I'm eyeing a cabin, on deck 6...if it reopens we might try to grab it!
How's the FE looking? Joe and I are interested in participating.
Hope everyone is well and we talk soon! :)

happy new year everyone, we did our first fe on our member cruise in sept. We have done 8 disney cruises and didnt know what fes were until this year. We are going to have to collect all the names im sure once we get within 6 months more will find this site. We are doing an fe on our member cruise again in sept. Ive made up an empty list just like the one we use on the other cruise. I just have to find where i stored it. I could take the info of everyone signing up . Including names relation example dh or dw etc cabin number and ages of kids under 20. Then everyone once in awhile i could post updates. And eventually send every cabin a final copy. But we need a cut off date.

Hello, Fellow "Dreamers"!
My DH Kevin and I will be joining you in December for our third Disney cruise. We've postponed this one for several years so we are very excited to be coming back. We are from St. Louis, and just sent our youngest daughter off to college, so we are celebrating becoming empty nesters.
I am interested in the FE. I hadn't heard of this, but when we last sailed in 07 we participated in a similar "Secret Santa" exchange, which was fun--until I realized that I had a typo in my cabin number. The family next door to us was amazed that the Cruiseline kept sending them little gifts for the kids, though they couldn't figure out some of them. When we discovered the mistake I knocked on the door to explain, but had the kids keep all the gifts! So we truly shared the magic of the season.
However, I found myself wanting to meet some of the people to whom I had given or received gifts from. Does the FE culminate in any type of meet-and-greet so we can all get together and put a face to the names? Also, are there any guidelines on the "Fish Extenders"? We just used Christmas stockings last time.
Are any of you planning on participating in any of the AllEars 15th Anniversary Events the weekend following the cruise?
Looking forward to sharing the year anticipating with all of you!
Sweet Dreams! (Hey, I just realized my Disboard tagline, which harks back to an almost forgotten Disneyland parade, takes on a new meaning on this board!)

We have been DVC member since June of 2009, we own at BLT. We hope to add on 50 points eventually... probably at AKL (We want to be able to do concierge for a few days a year, or a week, every 3rd year).
We have never been on a Member cruise. Eventually I'm sure, we will. Our first Disney cruise was on the Wonder in October, 2010.

If you do that they included the next member cruise with a verandah. We have made some great friends from the member cruise. We arrange to sit with them every year. We keep in contact. They live in south hadley near u mass. Our home resorts are boardwalk and saratoga. We usually book okw.

We're booked on this cruise but if the remainder of 2012 cruises are released before April 27 we may have to use this as our dummy date. Hopefully DCL will wait on us. This will be our 8th cruise. We are planning on staying on the ship except for Castaway Cay day so we can explore the ship! It will be myself, DD, and DGS. My DH is undecided as of now but will probably be joining us too.

We'll be joining you! It will be me (Beth) and DH (Jim). This will be my 12th DCL cruise, and his 11th. I was lucky enough to be able to have a "girls only" cruise with my best friend two years ago. We're celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary with this cruise. The actual date is 12/30, but we can't get away then!
We booked this cruise while onboard Dream two weeks ago. We had an absolutely AWESOME time! I haven't quite managed to get my trip report finished or to get my pictures posted yet because we went to Walt Disney World for a week after the cruise, but they're coming shortly!
We're planning to stay at Old Key West the night before the cruise. We'll be onboard Magic for the seven nights before that! We had thought about doing a back-to-back on Magic, but this way we'll get all new restaurants, shows, etc. for the second cruise, plus a couple of days at Disney World when we're finished sailing the high seas!
Can't wait to meet all of you!

WE HAVE DONE A COUPLE DISNEY CRUISES IN DEC. WE HAVE LUCKED OUT WITH THE WEATHER BUT IT CAN BE COOLER EVEN ON THE ISLANDS. THE ONE TIME WE SAILED AND WENT TO CC THE WATER TEMP WAS A LOT COOLER THAN IT IS IN SEPT WHEN WE DO THE MEMBER CRUISE. ITS LIKE BATH WATER IN SEPT. ONLY ONCE HAVE WE HAD ROUGH SEAS BUT THAT WAS THE LAST NIGHT WHILE HEADING UP TO PORT CANAVERAL. WE HAD WIND IN THE ATLANTIC THERE. 15 FOot WAVES, JUST A LITTLE CLANKING OF COAT HANGERS:rotfl2: AS FAR AS THE MEMBER CRUISE, IF YOU HAVENT DONE ONE YOU SHOULD. YOU NEED EXTRA BAG FOR THE SMALL GIFTS. THEY ARE THEMED EACH TIME. THEY BRING ON SPECIAL GUESTS. ONE YEAR THE BROUGHT ON THE 3 LEADING LADIES FROM THEIR BROADWAY MUSICALS TO SING. YOU CAN MEET AND TALK WITH THEM AT THE POOL OR WHERE EVER YOU RUN INTO THEM. WE HAD THE PLEASURE OF HAVING LUNCH ON SERENITY BAY WITH REAL VINCE PAPALYA(bad spelling) FROM THE MOVIE INVINCIBLE. WE GOT TO SEE THE FIRST SCREENING OF THE NEW SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS AND BEAUTY AND THE BEAST ON TOP OF THE SHIP. MET BILL FARMER THE REAL VOICE OF GOOFY. THE CRUISE SELLS OUT IN ABOUT 5 HOURS

THAT WAS OUR DOOR, THE FE IS AT THE SIDE. WHO EVER SIGNS UP FOR FE GETS A LIST OF EVERYONE WHO SIGNS UP. YOU BRING SOMETHING MAADE OR BOUGHT FOR EACH PERSON ON THE LIST. SOMETHING VERY INEXPENSIVE. A DOLLAR OR 2. MAYBE SOMETHING FROM WHERE YOUR FROM. EXAMPLE, WE LIVE IN NIAGARA ON THE LAKE CANADA. WE BROUGHT SOMETHING WITH CANADA ON IT. SOME PEOPLE BRING FRIDGE MAGNETS ETC. SOMETIME DURING THE CRUISE YOU GO AROUND AND PUT THEM IN THE FE HANGING BY THE DOOR OF THEIR CABINS. IF YOU LOOK AT THE THREADS THEIR IS USUALLY A THREAD ABOUT FEs FOR EXAMPLES OF WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. I THINK ITS ONLY DONE ON DISNEY CRUISES.

Hi! This cruise will be my 4th DCL cruise and the 1st part of my B2B on the Dream---I'll be on-board with 3 friends in 2 verandah cabins and I'm moving to an inside cabin for my 3-night---I am so curious about the virtual port-hole and I'll have a different friend join me for that. My poor husband Tom won't be going on a DCL cruise until Oct 2012 Eastern on the Fantasy for our anniv.
I would love to be a part of the FE group! It is soooo much fun! I went on the first-ever 5 night double dip in 2008 and went on the Panama Canal cruise this past January and those had over 120 FE cabins!
We live just north of Annapolis but alas, I don't eat anything from the sea:-(
I look forward to meeting you all:-)

welcome to the group! Wow 120 cabins!!!i thought we had a lot on our member cruise with 24 cabins. Did they have it as one big group? So far this cruise has 6 cabins but someone posted early on here before i decided to run the fe. They mentioned they had 29 people. I hope they get back to me to confirm. Hello everyone! We will be joining you on this sailing! We were originally booked for the 9/11 sailing but my nephew had to go and set his wedding date for that time, the nerve! :lmao: I just changed our ressie today so it is official!!
Our family consists of DH (Sam), myself (Julia) and DD (Tessa) who will be 21 months old at the time of the cruise. This will be DD's 1st cruise of course! We need to get her Disneyed at an early age! LOL! DH's 2nd cruise, the first being our honeymoon 16 yrs ago (RCCL) and my 6th. It will be my first time on DCL, but was once on The Big Red Boat version of Disney. We are so excited for it to finally get here! Oh, and I will be celebrating my birthday, which is on Dec 3...that still counts, right?!
We would love to join the FE for sure!!
Oh, we will be only staying one night pre cruise near the port. The said wedding we are going to in Sept is in LA, so we will be doing Disneyland on that trip!

HI Mandy, Ive been keeping track of the FEs. I will send everyone a list when the cruise gets closer. We should have a deadline to sign up. Maybe sometime in early OCT. Sometime soon i will post just the peoples Disboard names who have joined the FE list. Anyone who I forgot can let me know. We would enjoy a Meet and Greet. We will be doing our Dvc Member cruise in Sept so we will have some idea about the ship. We were very familiar with the Wonder.

Hi there..... My Grandmother and I (Jennifer) will hopefully be joining you on this cruise as well. I just signed up for it while my husband and I were on the Inaugural Alaskan Cruise. This will be my 10th DCL cruise and My Grandmothers 2nd. My husband would love to be joining us for this one as well but he has to work. We are doing this cruise because I have always wanted to go and see the ship when it is all fixed up for the Holidays.
I saw on here that there are a lot of DVC members. My Husband and and I have been members since 2004 and our home resorts are SSR and AKL. We have also been on 2 Members cruises.

OK, we're all set now! We'll be leaving home on Thanksgiving morning, taking Amtrak to Kissimmee, staying one night at the Radisson At The Port, sailing 7 nights on Magic, back to the Radisson for one night, then onto Dream for 4 nights, and off to a Fort Wilderness Cabin for three nights. Then back on Amtrak to Newark and home! That should make for a nice early winter vacation--maybe even a visit with some family members. Jim's cousin leaves near Port Canaveral and said he'd like to see us while we're there, and my brother lives in Jacksonville and also wants to see us. I'll be glad to get back home so that I can rest from this vacation:rotfl2:!

We mostly do Disney Tranfer to and from ship. But we have done the Rental way. Usually when we use the Disney Transfer you arrive a little later. On our Member cruises we usually take the Disney bus from OKW and arrive around 1pm. We have been on the Wonder enough times to know our way around so that wasnt a problem. This Sept will be the first member cruise on the DREAM so we will have to get used to the ship first. We will get accustomed to the ship then and will know the ship for the DEC cruise.

Im the DISNEY FANATIC:rotfl2: I could talk all day about Disney. I would enjoy sitting on a bench in WDW somewhere just watching People. I retired early, and we have points in DVC so I get my Disney fix more often now:thumbsup2. We spend about 4 weeks a year mostly at OKW resort. Laura enjoys DISNEY, I live DISNEY. Well Im making a short story long:rotfl2:, I guess her favourite character could be Eeore. Back in 1972 when MK first opened Laura went there and got an Eeore stuffed animal and a inexpensive Eeore watch. 4 years ago she lost her Eeore watch. The last few years we have been going to WDW first 2 weeks of DEC. Without her knowing I went into the watch store on Main st while we were watching the Christmas Parade and talked to the Artist who did the watches. We were leaving in 2 days so he told me to come back the next day and it would be ready. The next day we were watching the Spectromagic Parade, once it ended I told Laura I wanted to go into the Pin store to look at Pins. While we wandered thru the store she was looking at the watches. She told me she liked the Eeore watches maybe oneday she would get a cheap one for work. Sooooooooo, I said lets ask the Artist about the watches. He recognized me and showed her the Personalized watch he made for her. I said, Merry Christmas thats yours. I just made a short story long, but I think her favourite character is Eeore, but I will ask her.

No, we were at Riverside that trip. We ran into you at DHS (I guess it was MGM back then). We ran into two DIS'ers within minutes of each other. I don't remember if it was you or TownCrier John who encountered my (adult) son walking around with my backpack with my DIS ID on it. .... and first cruise ever for hubby and DS!
We're about to book this cruise after much debate on which one to take. Aside from a cruise I took at age 19 on a VERY old ship (that has since sank), we've never been on a cruise before. We have a son who will be 5 at the time of our trip and something tells me he will be the perfect age for this! Anyone else have a 5 year old on this cruise?
I hope to hear back from the travel agent today so I can finally book this. We were debating between this one, and the Dec 3rd 7 night cruise on the Magic. The 7 night cruise went to places we'd like to go. We love St. Thomas, and we've never been to St. Martin, so that was a plus. However if we weren't fond of cruising, that's a long time to be stuck somewhere. The 4 night seems like a good trial run and we can always do a longer trip another time if we love it. Based on the comments on these boards, something tells me we're going to love it.
I had a question about the rooms. Do you think it's worth it to go with the 299 sq. ft rooms vs the 246 sq. ft, and is there really much difference between the decks? I would imagine the view is just as amazing on Deck 6 as it is on Deck 7, but I could be wrong. Any tips on picking a room? I tend to suffer from motion sickness and I was told the lower floors and the middle of the ship would be best. I'm sure there is SO much to do that you hardly spend any time in your room anyway, so perhaps I'm putting too much thought in to this!
Looking forward to my introduction to Disney Cruises!

Welcome to the group!!! This will be Laura and my 8 th Disney cruise. We have sailed cruises on Celebrity also. If your cabin is near the centre and middle decks you feel the sway the least. They have big stabilizers that stick out to cut down on the motion. If everything weather wise is the same the worst part for motion will be as we sail down to Bahamas and sail back. You are travelling thru the Atlantic. Most of the time you wont feel a thing. If you are sensitive to motion sickness you can wear a patch for that. This will be our second DREAM cruise, our first will be in Sept on our DVC Member cruise. We will get familliar with the ship then and i will report about our cruise. In my opinion your only in the cabin to sleep so size doesnt matter to us. But we have had Balconies and Outside views. Dont forget Inside now have the Virtual porthole so it wont be as dark in there. You were mentioning the view from Deck 6 and 7 being similiar. Most views are the same just higher and lower and if you have a balcony you can stand outside. If your getting a balcony it might be handy once your 5 year old gets tired, you can go back to your cabin, and the 2 of you can sit and relax on your balcony. But Im going to sound like im repeating myself, but there is so much to do on the ship you may not spend much time in your cabin. We first took our kids to WDW when they were 5 so all 4 of us would remember the trip. I know on the Wonder and Magic there is lots to do for all ages, and by the looks of what ive seen and heard the Dream wont disappoint. Id suggest early dinning for someone with young kids. Feel free to ask all the questions you want, I enjoy talking about DISNEY and DCL cruises. Our friends are from South Hadley Mass near Springfield. I noticed you are from MASS.

dvc deernut,
Thanks for the info and the guidance. My travel agent didn't get back to me, so I have time to change my room request and ask to be certain I'm in the center of the ship. I fully anticipate wearing patches, wrist bands, and/or taking meds to keep from getting sick..... whatever it takes.
It appears that the early dining is no longer available, but I hear that sometimes if you keep checking back you are able to change it, and you can possibly change it once you board the ship. Do you know if that is correct?
South Hadley is about 2 hours away from me, as I'm about 45 minutes outside of Boston.
Thanks again for your help!

Im not 100% sure about changing dinning but I know you can keep checking to see if something is available. You can always call DCL and ask. They are very helpful. Doesnt matter which seating you have, you dont miss any shows. They have it planned out, if you eat early you see show after you eat and visa versa if you have late dinning.

Its always good to get there as early as they start to board and have your swim suits with you, so you can enjoy the pools in the afternoon before safety drill. If you dont swim you can explore the ship. The shops wont be open until your far enough offshore.

Another good idea for seasickness is to eat green apples. I learned this from a fellow DIS'er who's in the Air Force. We had hit some terrible weather, and I was REALLY seasick. I couldn't imagine eating anything at all, but after two apples and wearing the sea bands I was just fine. I wish I had met her before the third day of that cruise:rotfl2:!

Hey, anyone want to get together six months from today on a big huge ship? Who's in?
My friend and I thought we had someone lined up to share a towncar to port with, but they decided to take Disney transportation instead, so we'll probably wind up taking Disney transportation unless we find someone else interested in sharing a ride to port.
Is anyone here interested? I have a driver that I use that drives a huge Chevy Suburban. It seats seven, but I wouldn't do more than four or five unless we didn't have a lot of luggage. With four people, the cost is usually a bit cheaper than Disney transport. The driver I use is willing to do a quick water stop on the way to the ship, and will also do a grocery stop on the way back to Disney if we want. He also doesn't mind doing pick ups at more than one resort (I usually just tip him a bit extra if that happens).
So, let me know if anyone is interested.

Yeah, I'm officially booked! Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.
dvc deernut - Thanks for the tips, and feel free to keep them coming! Now that I don't have to research which trip to take, which room to get, and which dining time is best...... I can read more about the little tips and tricks so that I won't ask TOO many newbie questions! At least I'll try not to.
Beth - Thank you for the tip, I will absolutely bring some green apples if that's allowed. Of course they probably have green apples on the ship, right? I'll have to read up on that one too!
TLinden/Karen - Small world. I'm also north of Boston, north west actually. I will make sure to read back a few pages to see what other kids are going to be on the cruise. My son can sometimes be shy and it helps to talk about who we'll see once we get there.
tessasmom - I'll be curious to hear how you compare the Disney cruise to other cruises, since you've been on so many. As for the fish extender exchange, I'll have to admit I'm intrigued. When I first read something about it I thought "What the heck is that?" so I searched and found a thread about it. I'm curious as to how many people are usually involved? Do you give a gift for each pocket? Say 20 families are involved and each has 4 people in their family, is that 80 gifts you should be bringing, or 20? Do you bring age appropriate gifts for kids, such as something for babies, toddlers, teens, etc or the same thing for each cabin? You know, I really should research this a bit more, as I just said I wasn't going to ask so many newbie questions!

Thank you for the offer, but we have 4 in our party. We usually do Disney transportation but i think we are going to rent a car for the day and rent one for the day to get back. I just have to remember the rental company we rented from the last time that has shuttle service to the port nearby.

HI KAREN, glad your on board. We did the FE for the first time on our Member cruise last Sept. We had over 60. I had my cousin sew us a FE to hang. Since we were the only Canadians involved I had a Niagara on the Lake Canadian theme. My carry on was jammed tight. I just barely got it in the overhead on the jet.:rotfl2: Its like Christmas and looking in your stocking stuffers. Its fun to come back to your room and look to see what has been added.

Im trying to run this one like the person ran ours in Sept. I keep track of all the names and cabins and ages of cruisers under 20. Then when it becomes maybe the begginning of Oct have a cut off so everyone will have time to organize. But im open to suggestions. Our list isnt that big yet.[/COLOR]

If all works out I will be down just west of Boston in Oct for a weekend. Our call in day to book the next member cruise usually is in Oct. I drive to our friends house from the cruise to have a call in get together party:rotfl2: Its about a 7 hour drive from here. We have been to Boston once for 4th of July. Right after 911. We stayed in the Boston Harbor Hotel and walked over to the where the Pops play. We got in line at 8am, and were lucky enough to get wristbands. Because im a talker, the man i was talking to invited us to sit with his group. We were thrilled, right infront of the stage. Ive never experienced that before. We want to do it again sometime. I always watch it on TV here in Canada.

I've only been to the pops once for the 4th of July, and it was on a boat right by the esplanade. Very nice to have an unobstructed view and no crowds, but one of these days I want to go in town to experience it up close.

We are DVC MEMBERS. Once a year in SEpt they have a member cruise. After the cruise is over about a Month later they tell us when the call in day is for the next years cruise. The phone lines open at DVC at 8am. At 8am you start calling in and press redial redial redial until you get thru, then you wait another hour or so to get a booking agent. By 3pm the cruise is sold out. Our friends from the previous DVC cruises in MASS. seem to get in after only half hour. So I drive 400 miles or so to call in:rotfl2:Thats how crazy DVC members can be and how special Disney cruise are. If you meet up with the right group of people on board you can make new friends from all over. We have made friends with others on disboards from cruising same Disney cruise.

Karen, each year, DVC rents a ship for a four night cruise, and only DVC members are eligible to book it. They usually have special guests (I think they had Jodi Benson one year), and they leave special gifts in the cabins. It's hard to get a room, as it's a very popular event for members.

Every year they have a different theme. One year they brought on the 3 leading lady singers from their Broadway shows, like Mary Poppins , Lion King and Little Mermaid. They also bring on a couple Animators of the movies depending on what is being re released that year. Example, last year they redid Beauty and the Beast, we saw it first on top of the ship. 4 years ago i got to meet Richard Sherman and hear him talk and perform. Last year one of the guests was Bill Farmer the voice of Goofy. They have special seminars with the special guests and its so cool to just sit down with one of them by the pool or on the beach and just talk.

Thats me and Bill Farmer, I was in the elevator with him and his wife (she took the photo). There is a funny story about that and my Pirate outfit photo, and Bill Farmers wife.
If your ever thinking about taking the DVC tour, they dont High Pressure you. We have been members since 1998 and wish we bought into it in 92.
Hope i didnt scare you off in my Pirate outfit:rotfl2: I will be wearing it on Pirate night on the DEC cruise. Im not crazy, just DISNEY CRAZY:rotfl2:

The DVC cruise is a special cruise but we dont get special rates for it. The percentage of people who dress up is a lot higher on the member cruise. But on the member cruise your dealing with a full ship of disney crazed DVC ers. They know what to expect and bring. Generally on a DCL cruise not as many dress up. When you cruise on a non member cruise its fun dressing up,the looks you get:rotfl2: Dont feel shy about wearing a pirate outfit. I always have a blast in costume.

Karen, on the cruises I've been on, I'd say that less than a quarter of the people have been dressed up for pirate night. There will be some people dressed in elaborate costumes like DVC deernut, and others will just have on hats and eye patches. Since it also say caribbean dress, I usually wear my Disney Hawaiian shirt, and this bandana hat with Goofy ears that I bought on my last cruise.
If you don't want to get dressed up in an elaborate costume, they sell some pirate gear on the ship (like the hat I mentioned above), so you could always get something on the ship, too.
Perhaps you can talk your sun into being a pirate for Halloween this year so you get double use out of a costume.

Hi Karen!
SO exciting that you are now booked!!:cheer2: Now comes the hard part! LOL! PLANNING!!! If you are a obsessive planner like me, you will be on these boards every free minute. I've already started putting things aside for the trip and have a list of things in my wallet for when I run across things that are only around seasonally here in Chicago. As far as your question about DCL vs. Other cruise lines, I won't really be able to answer you fully until we meet on the ship. I can tell you that DCL is the only cruise line I know of that has a board like this and such awesome veteran cruisers willing to share their knowledge and experiences. I am positive that my family and I are going to love cruising DCL and will quickly be hooked! In fact I'm already saving the $ so we can rebook our next DCL inboard!:yay:
Now as far as the FE goes, this is the way I understand it. This will be our first one and I need to get to ordering our FE holder off ETSY pretty soon! From what I am told, we get a list of the participants. In fact if you go back a few pages on this thread there is already a list started for our cruise. Now you can pretty much do what YOU want to do as far as gifts. Some people do a joint gift for the parents and then age appropriate gifts for the kids. Others do all individualized gifts for each person in the cabin. You can do it simple or detailed. The fun of it is just giving the gifts and discovering the ones left in your FE! Also, I have heard of people giving gift related to where they are from. Like from Chicago I could do something we are known for. I think I plan on definitely personalizing our FE gifts in some way and have some ideas, but nothing done yet.:scared1: Also, if you haven't read about this, I found this little tidbit of info very important. I guess on DCL a lot of passengers give little tokens to the wonderful people who serve them in the dining room and the room stewards. Since DCL frowns on or does not allow tipping (which I did not know) it's a great way of showing your appreciation! These tokens must be small though because space is limited in the crew quarters. I'm SO GLAD I read that so we are prepared!:thumbsup2
Just keep reading like I do, you will find you have little DCL notes plastered throughout the house! Don't hesitate to ask questions here, everyone is so helpful? Happy planning!!:cool1:

Tessasmom/Julia - I am absolutely an obsessive planner, and quite frankly it's stressing me out that I can't buy my FE gifts now! (would hate to have too few) My vacations are usually quite laid back with little planning necessary, so this is a world away from what I'm used to. I have been taking notes and so far I have power strip, shoe caddy, water, and pirate costumes noted. It appears I have the late seating for dinner and I'm not happy about that but hopefully I'll be able to change it later. My 5 year old could never wait that long to eat. As far as tipping, I thought they did allow tipping but at the end of the trip? I heard they give you little envelopes and you tip your servers then. I certainly could have missed something though, as I've been dedicating most of my time to reading about the whole FE thing.

Yes, you do tip the servers, and stateroom host. This is the page on the Disney site where you can find the information (including suggested tips):
http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/faqs/onboard-services/gratuities/
You can go to guest services and prepay the trip to your onboard account at any time or pay in cash if you want. I had prepaid the last time on the first or second day, and we regretted doing it because we had uncharacteristically horrendous servers. I wouldn't have given them the full suggested amount they were so bad.

Thanks, Ian. I just want to make sure that I have enough for everyone. I really love my main fish extender gift (and I hope that everyone else does). I will have a little bit of work to do after the fact, so I want to make sure we have plenty of time to do that :)
I actually have a drawer in my old bureau with Fish Extender stuff. I have a collection of stuff that I had purchased on clearance a couple of years back, and I also have the items I bought this year. In fact, I love the stuff that I bought this year so much, that I may buy another 50 pieces just to have to give people (and I got such a great deal on it, it's not even funny--I found this item for about 75% less than anywhere else I've seen it--I didn't get my first color choice, but I did get a nice color). I just hope people like this item as much as I do :) I think it's a very useful thing for Disney fans.

I am actually very excited about my FE gift (in case you didn't notice in the five billion times I've mentioned it on this thread so far). I am just so excited that I found such a good deal on it, and the site actually had a couple of other things that worked for the FE as well (I don't want to share the site here now because I don't want to risk duplication of gifts, but I will after the fact :)
We had some crazy rain storms here today. I walk part of the way to work, and I had to run for cover a few times. I was very happy when someone offered me a ride home tonight (especially after the thunderstorms got worse by the end of the day).

TLinden/Karen - I got caught in the same crazy storms today on the way home. I get to work so early that I managed to just catch a little rain, but the ride home was insane. I'm lacking on the FE gift ideas, but the girl I work with just returned from a cruise and hopefully I can get a full report of things she received. That ought to help.
Tessasmom/Julia - It has been very hot here as well, but for me it's a welcomed change. This past winter was SO long! How old is your daughter? My son will be turning 5 this summer. I am hoping he'll really enjoy the kids club. I hear it's wonderful, and he'll love the fact that the little babies are in another area and that he's with the older kids.
DVC deernut - count me in for the FE. I think it sounds like a lot of fun and I'm sure my son will love the little surprises waiting to be discovered. I don't have enough posts to send (or reply to) private messages yet, so I'll send you whatever info you need when I can.

Karen, the storms sure were crazy yesterday! I got caught in them on the way into work, and would have been caught on the commute home if a co-worker didn't offer me a ride. What city/town are you in? I'm in Wakefield.
I got such a good deal on my FE stuff that I just bought extra (as a matter of fact, I think I'm going to place another order and get more extra stuff so that I can have it for future use). But I figure if I'm short on anything, I'll just buy something else. I figure not everyone has to get everything exactly the same.
Right now, we have under 20 people in the FE exchange. Hopefully it won't get much more than that.

Oh, and one more thing, I'm still doing my debate on how to get to port. As I mentioned, the people were thought were going to ride with us have decided to take Disney transport, so at this point, it is looking like we will be doing that as well.
Right now, one of the things we are considering is taking ME to the airport, and then checking in for DCL and taking the bus from there. We're not 100% sure on this but we figure we aren't going to go in the parks that morning, so we may just do that instead.
Of course, I may just change my mind again in five minutes ;-)

Karen, Tessa is almost 15 months. By the time we cruise she will be 20 months. Your little guy will be in the kids club, Tessa will still be in the nursery age group. We are planning on one night booking her in there so we can check out the adult area clubs, even though neither one of us are really drinkers. I don't think we will be doing Palo or Remy this time around. We love doing things as a family and seeing things through Tessa's eyes!

That's all on DVC deernut. :)

HI KAREN no hurry when ever you can give the info for FE would be great. I still dont know our cabin yet.
Here is a suggestion for KAREN and JULIA. I think I read this right. Both of you are on late dinning. If you want to be at same teble why dont you LINK your ressies. We do that every year on our member cruise so we can sit with the same 8 people. You have to know each others ressie number and one of you call DCL and have the 2 ressies linked together.

Just curious why you dont take Disney transportation right from your Disney resort.:confused3

We will probably be doing PALO brunch if there is availability. We can call at the 105 mark. We enjoyed the Palo brunch on sea day. We arent doing Remy or Palo dinner because our friends havent done a disney cruise before and havent experienced the new dinning rooms.

To get to port earlier and get on the ship earlier than we would if we waited for the bus from our resort without having to pay extra for a town car.

First, THANK YOU to DVC Deernut for taking on the task of organizing the FE! I stand corrected! Oops! Oh, here's your :worship:
Secondly, that may be a pretty smart idea in linking our ressies. My question to veteran cruisers would be, how many are usually at a table? Or do they usually try to just do single families? I know on other cruise lines they put a bunch of people at big tables. From how I am interpreting DCL chatter, it seems a lot of people sit with just their family. Yes or no?
Karen, let's think about doing that...might give us a better chance at early dining. Hmmmm...

Julia, on my first cruise, I was with two other women, and we had late dining. We had a table with a married couple, and another family of 3 (mom, dad, and 10 year old son). My second group was part of a big group with over 200 people, and they seated us at tables of 8-10 with other people in our group. Late dining was tough on the 10 year old. Poor kid fell asleep in his chicken fingers one night.
Some families request a table alone, but it seems like most sections can have tables pushed together to make them larger. Tables seem to seat either 4, 8, 10, or 12. I think it's more fun when you are at a large table with bunch of people from all over. It's fun learning about your tablemates, and hearing about their adventures on the cruise. I still keep in touch with the couple I met on my cruise four and a half years ago.

Please count us in for the FE – We Can’t wait!!!!

I’m trying to get more details about the rooms – but some boards are saying the Verandah’s are very small, not the comfortable size they claimed to be. :confused3
There are so many places to read threw though, wishing someone would post some pictures – the cabin we have is actually 5526. I keep searching though … tough call .. change room ... keep room ... ugh ... :surfweb:

Yes this is addictive, Im on here everyday. We have another cruise in Sept and that board is now at board 8. I was talking to a DCL booking agent yesterday asking a couple Questions about our Cabins. We actually talked for about half an hour. She had just sailed the Wonder out west and the Dream in Mar. Her husband works the concierge deck. She was very helpful. I was asking about things I heard about the pools. She said yes the pools are smaller but thats only because they arent Lap pools anymore. On Castaway day many stayed on the ship so the family beach was less crowded. Many lined up for the Aquaduct. Her son rode it 6 times. It was busy but line moves fast. We are gold Castaway members so we can book at 105 days out, I now wish we were platinum they book 120 days out. Palos brunch etc has been booking up fast. Im going to try for a table for 6 for brunch.

We're Platinum and can book at 120 days out. Of course, we won't be paid in full by then (Disney can wait for my money so that I get the interest on it and not them!). We'd like to have a Palo dinner and brunch, but we've done both a few times, and will be doing both the week before, so we may just skip it this time. We enjoyed the main dining rooms on Dream enough that we may not want to skip a dinner. We may try to book a brunch if we can get one, but even that's not really essential for us. That leaves some reservations open for the rest of you! If you haven't been to Dream's version of Palo, you should try it. It's an absolutely beautiful room, and there's no walkway outside the windows so no one's standing out there looking in at you while you're eating!:cool1: Of course, it IS under the basketball court, so you may have a constant "thump thump thump" overhead:confused3. What an awful design choice that was! It's even worse than making the pool areas smaller!

Let's see...the night before the cruise we'll be at the Country Inn & Suites at Port Canaveral. The seven nights before that, we'll be onboard Magic sailing around in the Western Caribbean. We thought about doing a double dip on one ship or the other, but that would mean the same ship and the same restaurants. Two cruises mean all different stuff. After the cruise we're going back to WDW for three nights at a Wilderness Cabin. We've camped there before, but this will be our first cabin. No parks this visit, just a lot of downtime!
TL- not to be picky, but I will be celebrating my birthday (not telling which one!) on board too! It's so cool to have so many Birthday celebrations!
This vacation is a double celebration for us (maybe that's why there's two cruises?;)) Our 39th wedding anniversary is Dec. 30, and DH's birthday is Jan. 7. It's a big one--he'll be 62! We can't get away at the end of Dec. due to work requirements, so we'll be celebrating a bit early.
Our cruise to Canada in June will celebrate my birthday. It's a big one too. I'll be 39 (again):lmao:!

Tessamom, you're absolutely right. MickeyBella is on there twice. I guess I missed that she was already on there when I updated it today.
The list that I posted is not the FE list. It's the list of everyone who said they were going on the cruise, so there are more names on this list than there are on the FE list.
DVC Deernut actually is keeping track of the FE list. I think as of right now there are less than 20 people on that list. I will make take a look at the list DVCdeernut sent me and change the font color of those who want to participate in the FE list.

I've stayed at the Radisson At The Port, and it was very nice. I know it gets mixed reviews, but my friend and I really enjoyed it. We had a very nice dinner the night before, and breakfast in the morning, took their shuttle to the port and it was all really easy.
This time Jim and I are trying Country Inn & Suites, just to do something different. We're staying there the night before our Magic cruise, and then the night between the two cruises.
Neither place is really fancy, but both have good internet rates!

I am also a DVC member. I own at the Boardwalk and the Grand Californian. I bought my first batch of points in 2005. I also wish I bought sooner--I remember when I first heard of DVC, I thought $45 per point was so expensive. I paid double that for my first set of points. hehe.

Hi , We are also DVC members since 1998, wish we had bought in 92. We added 250 points in 08 while we were on the Member cruise. We made friends from South Hadley near UMASS on our first member cruise and have sat with them on the last 4 member cruise since then. I drove 7 hours to their house to do phone in for this years cruise in Sept. Laura and I really like Boston and area. Actually to drive to Boston from here is not much farther than driving to Lake Placid its all 4 lane Highway. When we get another chance we want togo to Boston. The only time we were there was on the 4th of July right after 9 11. We stood right up by the stage to watch the POPS. Walked everywhere in Boston that day. We stayed at the Boston Harbor Hotel for 2 nights using DVC points. Well Ive babbled on and on:rotfl2:

it has been quiet on here for a few day... anyone else going to try for a cabana on castaway? not feeling that lucky though..
another question, i noticed when searching for fe ideas, some of them actually named their group. do we have a name for ours? how about a cut off date? starting to get ideas together to figure out what we are going to do here for everyone.. and do we give gifts every day?
hello, anyone awake... time to get up.. :yay:
TLinden16

I don't think we have a name for out group. I believe Ian is going to pick a date sometime in October for a cut off.
The last time I did a FE gift, we delivered stuff twice. We had about 15 or 20 cabins, and it took longer than we expected to deliver them, so this time I will only deliver once. It's up to you :) I think it really depends on how many cabins we have, and how spread out they are across the ship. It looks like we have 10 now.

GOOD MORNING!! OUR FIRST FE WAS LAST SEPT ON OUR MEMBER CRUISE, WE HAD OVER 30 CABINS ALL OVER THE SHIP AND ABOUT 80 PEOPLE. I COULDNT CARRY EVERYTHING AT ONCE SO I DID A COUPLE DECKS AT A TIME. THIS WILL BE OUR 3rd FE, THE SECOND IS COMING UP AGAIN IN SEPT. THIS WILL BE DIFFERENT ON NEW SHIP. ON OUR OTHER CRUISE IN SEPT ON THE DREAM WE HAVE A COUPLE ON CONCEIRGE DECK. SO I THINK THEY HAVE TO BE DONE IN THE DAYTIME. I THINK THEY LOCK THAT AREA AFTER A CERTAIN TIME. I THINK KAREN THOUGHT OCT 4th WOULD BE A GOOD CUTOFF TO GIVE EVERYONE 2 MONTHS TO PREPARE.ITS SATURDAY MORNING HERE AND WE HAVENT HAD RAIN IN 27 DAYS.

How about we throw out some names of our group??? I'll start!
Disney DREAM's and Holidays
DREAMing of Sun and Sand in December

We are hoping to pay off the cruise very soon! After that, we can start booking excursions and ressies on Sept 21st I believe! Not sure what we will be booking, but for sure Palo Brunch if possible and the nursery for DD for that and a few hours one evening so we can check out the adult areas.
I think it's a great idea to nail down a name of the group by the cut off just in case we are personalizing (like I am) my FE gifts.
Another thought, and feel free to just ignore this if you'd rather not. How many of us would feel comfortable sharing our FB name/pages with each other? I just thought it would put faces to the names and get to know more about each other (which could be good or bad...like if you are in witness protection or have many skeletons in your closet! :rotfl2:) think about it. I'm game if anyone else is.
Everyone have a fantastic day! If you are part of the massive heat wave hitting us in the Midwest, stay cool and hydrated!!:cool2:

I'm on Facebook, too, and will be glad to PM my Facebook name. Jim is just getting into Facebook, and he doesn't have ANY friends yet, including me! We're still working on that. It's only recently that he figured out how to turn his computer on, and how to check his email!:rotfl:

I guess I'm just a little bit out of it this morning. When I replied somewhere up thread, I should also have included that one of my other cruises (the one to Canada) has a Facebook group set up. It's by invitation only, so no outsiders wander in by accident. If someone is willing to set that up, I'd be more than willing to join!

That's a GREAT idea Beth! I just tried to form a group, but I need to be able to add people already on my friends list to start it. Once I get a few of you who I have PM'd, I will get the group formed. I was just going to call it Disney Dream 12/4/2011. Does anyone have any better ideas, like the whole group name thing? Suggestions please!?

Ok, for those of you interested I have set up a FB group page for our sailing. It's a locked group, so in order to join you have to either friend me, or accept my friend request. I have sent out friend requests to those that PM'd me. So far our group is myself and TLinden16. LOL! Big group! I'm sure the rest will follow and hopefully newcomers to the thread will want to join in. No pressure, some of us just wanted to put a name to the face!
Karen89-You are right, I could not find you on FB. You will need to FR me to join the group!

spent most of this day relaxing in a/c with my son.. desperately trying to figure out what to make/bring for fe gifts.. this is stressful..

Two things...if you send me a friend request on FB for the group, please PM here so I know that is who you are and can accept.
Second...Tonydana don't stress over the FE's!! It took me a long time to figure out ours and the idea only came to me when I was not thinking about it! I think we try too hard to please everyone. You don't even have to hand make something. You can buy stuff at the dollar store(which I plan for the kids!), simple candy, pirate stuff from the party store. Just don't make it too big or complicated. You want to enjoy the cruise! Not get wrapped up in the FE too much!! You are spending a lot of money to have a fabulous vacation with your family! The FE is supposed to just be an added bonus! So stop stressing! :cool2:

Wow! I've missed quite a bit. Sorry for being AWOL folks, life just kinda got in the way.
I have posted the FE list on the first page. We are still planning to do the FE but are trying to finagle our way into the same room for both legs of our B2B. Anybody know any tricks that don't involve shelling out money to upgrade? :rotfl: I already tried emailing and they just told me what I already know, that neither room is available on both legs and to call a reservation specialist (which would probably require upgrading).
I'll pass on our cabin number once we run outta hope for a solution on the B2B.
