INTEREST THREAD for ABC letter swap and elements swap

This is an interest thread only. Sign ups are tentatively scheduled for Sept 9th, 8:30am.

I have a few ideas for this swap and I’d like your input.

Option 1:
4” letter in general Disney colors: black, white, yellow, red, and/or patterned papers, no theme associated with the letter

Refer to the As and O here. These are 2” letters, but it gives you an idea of a non-themed Disney letter
http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg72/susanbillings/475.jpg

Option 2:
4” letter in general Disney Colors as described above, AND 1 mat, 1 box, and 1 other element (a mini page kit)

Option 3:
4” letter with a Disney theme -- that is, A for Ariel, M for Mickey etc.

In the photo above, C for Cinderella (again 4" letter for this swap, not the 2" letter shown)

Option 4:
4” letter with a Disney theme (option 3) AND 1 mat, 1 box, and 1 other element (a mini page kit)

Option 5:
In addition to the letter group, have a separate group for ABC element mini-kits (let me know which option 1-4 you prefer also) If we go this route, we'll discuss element requirements later.

Personally, I like option 2. This way you have a common theme throughout your book and can make collage type pages with all different A photos on it -- like Arrival, Airplane, Adventureland and Ariel all on a 2 page spread. I already have a few of the specific theme ABC sets and while I LOVE LOVE LOVE them, I think I am ready to try something less specific.

Let’s discuss this -- please let me know which option you prefer, or make new suggestions, due date preferences etc.

I'm good with any of the options. I kinda like the mini page kit idea, but I also have never been in a specific theme swap yet either. Would there be enough interest for both?

One of the options is to have 2 kinds of groups --

Grp 1 for ABC Disney letters
Grp 2 for ABC disney elements (in the past we did title/topper, mat, box and 1 element)

Is this what you'd like to see?

That option sounds great. Then we would have a little bit of everything. Would we be doing one or two letters for each?

Hey Susan!!! I have been waiting for this one since we talked about it months ago!!! :thumbsup2

I really like option 4...but, think having just a general Disney colored alphabet is neat too. Could we do a general color alphabet group and a page kit group that includes themed letters and elements like A for Aladdin or whatever? The general alphabet would be easy enough to whip out. Do you know what you are looking at for a due date?

***Not sure...is that option 5 then? I am not sure I am following what you are saying? I like the mini page kits themed to each letter specificly (like C for Cinderella) and I like the 4" letters themed to each specific letter (like C for Cinderella) and I like a 4" A-Z set in Disney colors. Would we do the same letters for page kits and 4" letters? Sorry for the extra...trying to sort it out in my head and see if I am getting what you are meaning!! LOL

This would depend on interest level.

26 people = 1 letter each
13 people = 2 letters each
9 people = 3 letters each (one person has 2 letters and something extra)

I suppose the first question is

Do we want
4" letters
or 4" letters with matching mat, box, element

then,
do we want these letters to be general disney colors
or do we want themed letters -- C is for Cinderella

My vote is one group of 4" ABC letters with matching box, mat and 1 element.
And one group of ABC elements -- pick a theme like C is for Cinderella--and make a title(or this could be just the 4" letter if you prefer), mat, box and element.

Am I making any sense?:confused3 I feel like this would be so much easier to discuss in person:rotfl2:

:welcome: Looks like you are new here! Please let me know if there is any other information you need about our swaps. THis is the link to a swap that is currently on-going. You can see how our set-up generally is, element list and requirements and mailing info. Not all hostesses run the swap the same way, but this is the usual way.

Hi Susan.

Yup I am new to the DIS Boards swap group ( I just discovered you all!) but not new to swapping or to scrappin. Have swapped many times on other boards. I read through all the info and it seems to be pretty straightforward, but if I have a question I will send you a note! Looking forward to signing up. I am going to disney in October so this will be perfect.

LOL Susan I was thinking the same thing...if we could talk on the phone and you lay it all out for me, it would be all better!! Because...I THINK we are saying the same thing. So, the option is out there to do a general Disney color set (whether kits or letters alone) AND specific theme to letter kits and letters.

I like option 2 or 4. Flexible here.
I haven't done a swap on here in a while, but would love to join this one, as I have started to scrap a lot again. Hopefully, some of you remember me?

So to confuse even more... would we each be responsible for creating the letter we have, or would someone make all the letters and that would be theirs? That's the way I've done them before, but it would be really creative to each do the letters individually. So...yes. I like option 2 or 4. :rotfl2:

Yes, I remember you! I love your work.

Here is how the swap would work:

Assuming we have 26 players

For option 2, general Disney colors, you would pick a letter at sign up (really wouldn't matter which letter) You would make 26 4" embellished letters along with the matching mat, box and element. You get back 1 set of A-Z letters with matching mat, box, element.

For option 4, disney specific theme letters, you would pick a letter with a theme at sign up. C - Cinderella - -you would make 26 4" Cs that are embellished in a CIndy way. 26 mats, boxes aand 1 element that co-ordinates. You would get back a full A-Z set of topics.

For option 1 & 3, it would be the letters only -- no mats, boxes etc.

THis thread has a link to some 4" letters. Look for the slide show for groups 1 -6.

Thanks Susan!! That is exactly what I was thinking!! So, this would be an option for 9 or 13 players also, right? I think you had said that earlier in the thread. After reading this, I definitely vote for option 2 & 4...if there is only one option then I vote for option 4. LOL It only took all day to figure it all out, but finally!!! LOL :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I must've been having a moment!!! (or two)

And, Ohana - I remember looking photos from past swaps and admiring your work. You did some great things! I am looking forward to swapping with you! :thumbsup2

So I finally wrote something that makes sense!

Definitely an option for 13 - -each person picks two letters. If we end up with nine we'll need to brainstorm on what the extra is to cover the non-existant 27th letter.

Fish Extender. The doohickey that's outside the stateroom door. People have a thing made to hold goodies and give something to people who sign up. Let me see if I can find some photos, it's a cute idea (I'm thinking a bookmark with a Micky Ghost on it - we'll be on the cruise for Halloween).

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f267/alikat99/SSMC05door.jpg

See the fish hook to the left of the door with the thing hanging off it? They are like envelopes and people put fun stuff in them. I had one made for us (still hasn't come yet!) out of Disney Halloween fabric.

Cute! I like the bookmark idea! Hmmm...how about a candy bar (or airheads are a LOT cheaper I believe) with a wrapper like at a baby shower? Maybe a simple 1 inch band with a cricut ghost or something the wonderful DISboards deisgners make that can be printed and cut out?

Oh, cute! I'll get on that, great idea!

A friend helped me design a graphic. You can get a special postmark at Castaway Cay, so I am going to have these made into postcards through Vista Print.

Nope....I'm pretty sure it took the entire day for my brain to kick into gear!!! We were up really early and took the kids deep sea fishing, so between the sun, little sleep and "fun" with the in-laws (:scared1:) I was on slow mode! I am glad we have it all cleared up now though!! Thanks so much Susan!

Jen, that's really cute and a great idea. I'm sure you'll catch it, but I'd hate for you to get them printed up wrong. Cruise is spelled incorrectly.

Susan, this swap sounds so cool, but I'm gonna be passing on this one. I've got too much going on and it's going to get busier between now and Christmas so I've got to slow down on my swaps. I know I'm going to regret it though!

Jennifer, those are really cute! Have you ever had anything printed from there before? My husband recently had his new business cards printed from there. The shipping was fast, the prices great and the cards look really nice! He even got some shirts done. They aren't the best quality, but serve their purpose. They sent some free products with the stuff to try. :thumbsup2

Anyway, maybe if we end up doing the page kits, the end of November may be better if it works for you. Sorry...rambling...thinking out loud...

THe gift tag swap will run at the same time as this one. (I need to get the interest thread up for that.) The gift tags have to be returned before Thanksgiving so people have them for their Christmas gifts. This means that this swap, the ABC swap, will have to be due before Thanksgiving also if possible. I can't put off the gift tag swap.

The holiday swap is in October, so it should have a December due date. However, December due dates are often hard for us swappers, so I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with January. We'll see what the majority wants when I do the interest thread. I will ask if people want 2 elements, pages(we would have to decide if we are going with sketches or not), 4" letters, 2" letters to spell out the word.

Personally, right now, I still have the character swap, sketch swap, ABC and Rolodex to complete by the end of Sept. THese new swaps I won't be able to work on until then, so I guess I'd be looking for the latest due date I could have.

Hi Susan
I just wanted to say that I wont be playing in this one but will be playing in tags and Holiday elements. I am going to be making Holiday books for the twins for Christmas so I will be in lots of groups. Its ok with me if we dont get the pieces back until January so as far as Im concerned you can work with whatever dates you nee to.
BTW, Im very thankful that things have all worked out for your family and glad that your DH has work and that all is well.
I havnt been on the boards too much lately but I d read so I try to keep current with everyone.
Gods blessings to you and your family!

K so I've always wanted to do this swap but I think Ive avoided it because i didn't understand it 100% and I didn't want to seem dumb.

So I'll ask this time....
Do I do a complete alphabet?
Is the 4" like the cricut 4" setting or if you measure the letter it's 4 inches?
Do I need to do the letters in mickey colors , Red, Blk, Wht, Yellow? Or can I do like Cinderella theme or even Alice in wonderland?
And are these for mini albums or can you use them for 12X12 albums?:confused3

Ok those were the burning questions....Thanks

At sign up, there will be two different groups

Group 1 will be for black, red, yellow, white and matching Disney-ish papers.
You pick 2 open letters. (At this point I am assuming that we will not have 26 swappers to make a complete alphabet, but 13 swappers means 2 letters per person). So say you pick E and S. You will make 13 sets for the letter E and 13 sets for the letter S. The set includes one 4" letter and a matching mat, box and element. So you make 13 letter E, 13 mats, 13 boxes and 13 other element (maybe a file folder or tags, or slide mounts etc) Then you make 13 letter S, 13 matx, boxes, and 1 element. In return you will receive the letter A with its matching mat box and element that someone else made, the letter B with mat, box, element that someone else made etc....

Group 2 will be theme specific. Again, at this point, based on expressed interest, I am assuming we will be going with 13 swappers which means yous will need to pick 2 open letters and state your topic. Let's say you pick A for Ariel and T for Tomorrowland. (I think I would like to stick with nouns -- so words like Believe and Arrive are out) You will make 13 sets of each. So you will make a 4" A that is embellished for Ariel, and a matching mat, box, 1 element (could be a paper piecing, a quote, tags, etc) You will also make 13 sets of the letter T - -4" T embellished like Tomorrowland, matching mat, box and 1 element.

The 4" letter -- yes, just set your cricut to 4". You will notice that some fonts won't give you a 4 inch letter, but don't worry - -it doesn't have to be all that precise.

Does this answer everything? Please let me know if it doesn't.

Here are some examples of the letters for Group 2. You will also make a photo mat, a journal box, and one other element. Yes, for Ariel you could use Ariel paper, water paper -- whatever you feel is appropriate.

For group 1, the letter will be in general disney colors and embellished with non-specific items like buttons, brads, ribbon etc -- not with a Donald paper piecing for example. You will also make a photo mat, journal box and one other element.

 Hi All!

I will be taking over the sign up and swapping out of this swap for Susan. She was so sweet to take over many groups in multiple swaps for me while I was getting ready for vacation, I am returning the favor.

I will be keeping the same two group types:

At sign up, there will be two different groups

Group 1 will be for black, red, yellow, white and matching Disney-ish papers.
You pick 2 open letters.

You will need to pick 2 open letters and state your topic. Let's say you pick A for Ariel and T for Tomorrowland. (We will stick with nouns -- so words like Believe and Arrival are out) You will make 13 sets of each. So you will make a 4" A that is embellished for Ariel, and a matching mat, box, 1 element (could be a paper piecing, a quote, tags, etc) You will also make 13 sets of the letter T - -4" T embellished like Tomorrowland, matching mat, box and 1 element.

Explanation of the 4" letter -- yes, just set your cricut to 4". You will notice that some fonts won't give you a 4 inch letter, but don't worry - -it doesn't have to be all that precise.

If we have less then 13 players, we will pick 3 letters and I will do the extra set - Mickey Heads for general [but not a 4" head because that is really huge, I'll try to make it so it close to the other proportionally] and maybe the # Sign for theme specific?

Sign ups are still scheduled for Sept 9th, 8:30am. I will leave the due date open for now. Since these are no longer tied to the Holiday and Gift tag swaps, the dates don't have be close to them anymore.

The element selection will also be from the short stack. 2 squares instead of 4 squares, 1 tag instead of 2 tags, etc.

Is there anything I am missing?

Sounds great. Can't wait for this one. I'm actually at a job now where I can do my own signups. (No offense, I've really appreciated all my signup buddies and all their help!) Now, I better get crackin and finish the little I have left on the other two so I can join here guilt-free.

Thanks so much! THe trip combined with DH going back to work, so away 4 days, home 4 days, back to school and 3 kids in multiple sports was a bit too much. I really appreciate your help.

I am interested in joining this too...I know I've been gone for awhile, but this would be an easier swap for me to jump back in with and will help me get motivated with my scrapping too!

AWM you are in central time right, so that will be 6:30am for me in WA?

Thanks,
Lisa

So I'm getting excited to be back swapping....
I've been thinking allot about this Swap and my BF gave me a great place for scrapbooking.
I unpacked all my paper and my Cricuts and now all my cartridges are now with me. YEAH!!!
I'm really wanting the Letter "F" cause I haven't touched my Wild West Cartridge, and I have the perfect paper for the letter.

I hope this would be acceptable...

I make it a habit of not playing favorites. I have two boys. ;)

However, since you are jumping back into swapping, I will be happy to put your name next to the F. You will need to pick one more letter on sign up day. :)

I would love to do this swap but I am a newbie (to swapping not scrapbooking). I would have a lot of questions about what everything means but if not closed can I get in on this? Please let me know if I should be emailing someone or just posting this reply. I'm also new to DISboards and forums and threading etc..

Just wondering if a due date had been decided on for this? i may be being slow and missing it in the thread - really interested in this one but just want to make sure I'd have plenty of time.

I work tomorrow and don't get off until 7pm central time. If this is a really popular spot, and I can't get to it until tomorrow night, can you save me a spot somewhere? I don't mind which letter(s) I get. If you're doing one of each type (Disney specific and non-specific) can you save me a spot for each?

If it's not filled by tomorrow night, I'll go ahead and sign up for spots then. I just didn't want to miss out.

Thanks!

Hopefully the letters I pick for you won't be too difficult to work with.

I'm also interested but might not be available until tonight due to business travel. Could you possibly save me a spot or two (letter doesn't matter). Looking forward to this one! Thanks!
