Can you split stays between cash and points to secure a better room?

There are lots of talks about not getting the room you requested with a certain view, but if you would have secured the room with cash you would definitely get the room you ask for.

For example at AKL can you spend 6 nights on pts. and pay 1 night with cash to reserve a savannah view room....and definitely get it????

If you reserve a Preferred View with CRO (cash ressie) you will get what you reserved, but the points reservation will not necessarily be in the same room. They would be 2 separate reservations (made with 2 separate phone calls) and would have to be linked by the resort- most likely at arrival- if possible. You might well have to change rooms.
