DH just brought our change to commerce bank & used the Penny Arcade to turn it into REAL MONEY :teeth: He loves that machine. He just cleaned out his desk drawers at work so he could bring the coins there. And we don't even have an account! It's so amazing to find a totally free service like that :)

I'm new to this board- I assume this has been discussed before - where can you trade in change at no cost? I never spend my change (my sister, a psychiatrist, tells me I'm pathological!) but its been accumulating now for about 5 years (so much so I cannot lift the jug its in). I think there's at least $1000 there, and I would hate to see 7% of that go to those supermarket change machines (and those $20 walmart machines do not work!) Any help would be greatly appreciated (of course, this plan won't work if I have to drage 200 lbs of change from NY to Orlando!) thanks!

Commerce Bank provides a free service called Penny Archade where you can count your change and they will give you the cash with no service charge. Valley National Bank will also do it with no charge. Both these banks are in NJ, and I am not sure if they are in NY. If they are not, call a few local banks and see if they offer the service for free. If you have tons of change its worth the bother. My father is moving after 35 years in the same house. He, like you, never spent any change over the years. Last week he cashed in over $8,000 in change. I saved him over $500 in fees, but Commerce Bank is not that happy about it. He kept filling up the bags in the machine. Good luck, and good hunting.

Your father must have been happy! I will do bank searching based on your advice- it may even be worth the trip to jersey if need be (not that there's anything wrong with a trip to jersey...). thanks alot for the help!
