I'm just curious about how often they upgrade at DVC resorts. I know that there are just a few studios at these resorts and I wonder what the chances of getting bumped to a 1 bedroom are??

Any stories out there?

I've been reading this board for over a year and can only recall a couple stories about upgrades at DVC. It's totally different from the resorts. Some people have expressed the theory that there might be a chance if someone is paying $$$ and not using points, but I don't know if there's real evidence of that.

My only experience with an upgrade (and I remember reading a couple of other posts from people who got the same) was an upgrade from standard view to preferred view at the BWV for our entire stay. This happened on our last trip in April.

I stayed at the BWV this summer and was upgraded for the entire week to a 1 bedroom from a studio. If you stay more than four days with kids you need the 1 bedroom.

Were you staying on points, cash or a combination?

Keep in mind that the upgrades at BWV this past year are more than likely due to the rehab. There are quite a few rooms out of service because of it. IMHO, upgrades will return to "hardly ever" when the rehab is completed. I'm not saying they will NEVER happen, but I am saying the percentage will be very, very small.

I think this has been discussed before and most feel they better not provide any upgrades. The only time I could imagine is if they had a problem, or rehab, with the type unit after the reservations were made. If a member uses x points for a one bedroom and another uses x-y points for a studio and then gets upgraded to a one bedroom without the coresponding points, this would not be a fair procedure.

For the most part, once the inventory of studios are all booked, a member will be told everything is booked when they call to reserve. Then you may waitlist or try another resort. On occassion, something may happen that forces an upgrade as people have mentioned. At the other Disney hotels, upgrades are more prevalent. If all Lagoon view rooms at the Poly get booked and people keep calling for Lagoon views, they will normally get a reserved room at that rate. Depending on the check-in activity as people arrive and housekeeping's rate of cleaning checked out rooms, some people may be surprised to learn they've been upgraded to Concierge if all Lagoon view standard rooms are in use. This has happened to us at both Poly and YC on 3 occassions in the past.
