Ahoy!
I'm interested in starting a cruise meet thread for any Dis Board members who will be sailing on the Magic for the 7/30/11 cruise in the Mediterranean. I searched around and did not see any other threads for this cruise yet.
This will be my first Med. cruise, we sailed on the Magic in the Western Caribbean this past March and just found it to be a great ship with a great crew. I joined a thread before sailing and we had a meet and greet on the first day and a voluntary Fish Extender Gift Exchange, lots of fun so I hope there will be interest.
FYI-
We have sailed on 2 other non Disney cruises and just fell in love with the Disney Cruise!

Let me here from you!

Hi Darlene we to are doing this same cruise (July 30th2011 Magic Med)
It's me (Michael) my wife -Joanne and son Perry.
We done the 11 day one on the Magic in May this year and it was fantastic and as such are old hands at this forum thingy. The may forum was massive so lets hope this one becomes just as big.
We to have sailed on other cruise line but have found Disney to be number one, sailed on the Wonder twice around the Bahamas and thought it was wonderful.
Mind you we are trying Royal Caribbean in march so I hope its just as good.
Anyway look forward to keeping an eye on this forum and hopefully watch as other people join in.

Cheers

Hi Michael,
Thanks for letting me know that you and your family are onboard as well. My husband Glenn and two daughters Cate and Emily will be onboard. I hope to see a lot of new people join the forum and maybe even get some ideas from people who have traveled to Europe. I am working on researching the ports a bit now and transportation via train to Rome etc.

I haven't been on Royal Caribbean, but I hear it's a nice cruise line from friends who have traveled with them. We have traveled on Holland America, which was nice but the last cruise was a little disappointing. Not the cruise itself, but the crowd of guests, no kids.
When we were docked in St. Martin the Disney ship was parked next to us and after 2 days at sea with almost no kids on board you can imagine what my daughters said. So that was when we promised to take a Disney cruise the next time. We expected it to be nice but overrun with kids. It was busy but my girls are teens so my husband and I took advantage of the adult area while they did their thing.
Anyway, nice to meet you and your family and have a nice cruise with Royal.

Hi DarleneAnne,

If you are interested in getting some info on the ports of call it may worth checking out the posts from from the previous forum I was on for the Magic Med criuse back in may this year. Its so big its stretched over two forums but you may find what you need there.
Having done it ourselves though feel free to ask us, if we can help we will.
Although the ports are a little different its pretty much the same.

cheers

My daughter, 8 & I will also be on this cruise. We did the 4 night Bahamas on the Wonder last year so this will be our second cruise. We're actually flying into Paris 3 days before and staying at Disneyland Paris then Barcelona the day before the cruise. We're both super excited.

Hi,
Glad you will be aboard. It looks like your daughter enjoyed the Bibity Bobbity Boutique. My youngest did that a couple of years ago, but she's 14 now. I hadn't thought of Disney in Paris. We were thinking of possibly going to Portugal for a couple of days before then taking a train to Barcelona and staying a night or two after. When you went on your last cruise, did you participate in a Fish Extender Gift Exchange? I am thinking of organizing one for this cruise.

I will be going on this cruise as well!
I am a senior in high school, and my mother informed me earlier this week that she had booked my graduation gift, this cruise! I am thrilled!! As well as the rest of my family! This will be my parent's 2nd cruise, but first Disney cruise, and mine and my older sister's first cruise all together. We are a family full of Disney fanatics, so we are excited to have a Disney experience outside of the theme parks!

Hello everyone
My Wife, CHristine, and myself, Jack and three German friends, husband, wife and 7 year old daughter will be on this cruise.
It is the first time for Our German friends and all are excited. We have unofficially adopted the daughter as our "grandchild" as we have none of our own and need someone to spoil rotten.
For us it will be DCL cruise #9, but first Med cruise on DIsney. My wife will be in Egypt and Turkey the month prior to sailing so we will meet her there.

Is anyone interested in having a meet and greet at one of the lounges on the day of Embarkation? Also, we did a Fish Extender exchange on our cruise in the Western Caribbean, is anyone interested in having one for this trip? Just thought I would get an initial response from those of you on the thread.

Rookie DCL cruisers happy to be confirmed for July 30th sailing in the Med. I am trying to figure out what the FE thing is all about but based on some length post in the forum looks like a lot of fun. Also interested in a meet and greet too. Myself, DH, DS7 & DS5 - very excited!

Hi,
The FE exchange is fun, it involves hanging something like a small shoe bag, but much smaller with pockets from the fish that hangs outside of your cabin where the cabin number is located. Basically extending below the fish. I will try and find a picture of mine from last year. If you sew you can make one, but there are people on the DIS Boards who make them in whatever color you like with Mickey patches on them and personalized if you like. You have a list of people and who are participating and you bring an item or items like candy, postcards from home, penicls, custom magnets commemorating the cruise, you can lable the bag or item with your family's name and where you live, and you put them in a bag and deliver them to each fish extender during the cruise. We had fun with this, finding them. There is a list of participants and where they are located on the ship. You can make one bag for each cabin or for each member of that family. The kids loved finding surprises almost every day.

This is the lady who I ordered a custom FE from. She did a great job. The picture wouldn't add so visit Ebay and if you look up Fish Extenders, we used the seller gradysmommy.

My family will also be on this cruise (my husband, 19 month old daughter, and grandparents). We are very excited and we would like to be part of the FE. We are still reading and understanding exactly what it means. We are rookie cruisers.

In addition, my daughter will be turning 2 on Aug 2 during this cruise and I want it to be a fun birthday for her. :wizard: Any suggestions or direction is appreciated.

Thanks!:)

Hi all
Haven't been on for a while but having said that I'm not alone by the looks of it.
Was wondering if anyone new of a decent hotel near the port, something with a pool as we are spending a couple of days in Barcelona before we board the ship.

Any help would be great.

I have a totally nerdy question/favor for you guys lucky enough to go on the med cruise.

They just released a vinylmation figure that is exclusive to your cruise. I was hoping to have someone pick one up for me!?!

I would be forever in your debt. If you also collect vinylmation I could pick you one up on my Mexican Riviera cruise in Sept (if they have released it yet).

PM me if you can help. I would of course reimburse you for your costs. I also throw in some treats from Disneyland as a "Thank You".

I must apologize for not continuing to organize our FE. We had some unexpected circumstances happen over the past several weeks when I planned to get on the Dis Boards to go over the list of participants I had already and post them. I see you have jumped in to help and I appreciate it. Can you let me know what we have going on right now and if I can help. Again, so sorry to be absent the past several weeks. Things are still a bit challenging right now, but I will try and keep up. We head to Barcelona on the 28th.

I was told the pirate night will be the 5th night - when we leave Naples. Formal night is the second night and semi formal is 6th night (day at sea). At least that is what someone else was told by the Disney rep.

Hi Debbie, Thank you. It seems you have done a fine job. I only had a few names as well, I think the same. I sent a private message to you with my room numbers. I will jot these others down. I will be happy to work on this. I think the final date for anyone to be added should be by Thursday of this week in the event anyone is taking an extended trip prior to the cruise. I will ask for that info and I can get a note out to all who have responded so we know where to deliver the gifts and hopefully we can have a meet too. Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Hi,
Thanks again to ZMOM (Debbie) for helping again with our FE Gift Exchange for this cruise. I am going to try and get our details finalized by this Thursday evening East Coast time in the US. So anyone who would like to participate can complete their gift making or purchasing.

For those who need to know what we do, you can either give a gift to each member of the travel party or one family gift per cabin that they can share. These can be made or purchased. Some ideas have been magnets, you can use to decorate the cabin door, candy, postcards, stickers for the kids etc. Just hang your fish extenders outside of your cabins and check for surprises. Make sure to label your gifts so we know who they are from. You can deliver the gifts anytime during the trip.

I have the details for a few participating travel families. They are: Ruthie, ZMom and Welchmom and my family. I am not sure if the PM (Private Message)is working, I saw some posts about people having trouble with it. If you wouldn't mind sending me a PM with your details to verify I have it all correct, I will compile the list and send a final back to you this Thursday. If I don't respond, please post here since it may not have gone through.

Also, please let me know if you would like to get together for a meet to say hi on Embarkation day either before or right after the safety drill.
Thanks, Darlene

Hi,
I just called to verify a couple of things with DCL and here is a list of a few things you may like to know before the cruise. I'm sure some of you may know them already.

Saturday, 7/30 - Mandatory Safety Drill at 4pm
Departure at 5PM (there is a sail away party) :boat:

Sunday, 7/31 - Formal Night

Wednesday, 8/3 - Pirate Night (you can dress up if you like) pirate:

Thursday, 8/4 - Semiformal Night (at sea day)

All other nights - dress is cruise casual for dinner.

You may bring bottles of wine onboard in carry on luggage only. If you bring them to dinner there is a $20/ bottle corkage fee. If you have wine left over your waitstaff will bring it to you at dinner the next night. We did this on the last cruise. :earsboy:

Here are the 6 participants that I have so far with information complete, I did not list the cabin numbers:

Welchmom 2 cabins 4 adults, 1 teen
Ruthie 1 cabin 4 adults, (1) 2yr old
Zmom 1 cabin 2 adults, (1) 9yr old
Kjnolan 2 cabins 4 adults, (1) 2yr old
denimblueeyes50 1 cabin 2 adults, 1 teen

Hey Darleneanne,

I am glad I double checked my room number. I was incorrect. The number is 6088...not 6188. I believe I can receive PMs. According to this website, I cannot PM until I have completed 10 posts. Looking forward to the cruise and meeting everyone.

Thank you for the correction, I have it noted. I will try to send you the PM later to avoid having everyone's cabin numbers posted publically. I will also send a message on the thread that let's everyone know I sent the PM. So if you don't receive the PM let me know. I can always email the info directly if you like.

I am really not ready for the cruise yet, a lot to do! We are all excited about it and we loved our last Disney Cruise so I know it will be a great trip! It will be fun to meet up. Be sure to read my last couple of posts from yesterday and today. I included some info you may want to know.

Welchmom, Ruthie, Zmom, Kjnolan, Denimblueeyes 50 have all been sent Private Messages including the participants and cabin numbers. Please let me know if you did not receive the PM. :flower3:

Anyone who would like to have a meet on Embarkation day (July 30th) I thought maybe we could meet at 3pm in the Promenade Lounge on Deck 3 approximately mid ship near Lumiere's Restaurant. Here is a link to Deck 3 if you would like to see where it is. [URL="http://www.wdwinfo.com//disney-cruise-line/images/deckplan-DisneyMagic.pdf"]
This would give us some time to say hi and see what we look like so we can say hi during the cruise. This would be before the scheduled safety drill. Would this work out? If not, we could meet on our at sea day. I think it might be hard to find time on our port days since they are fairly long days off the ship.
Thanks!!!

DarleneAnne, I did receive your PM; however, the fact that I cannot respond is a bit of a bummer. Three PM in the lounge for us is fine on the day of embarkation. I just want to verify that all the people you mentioned on the list will have the FEs and each day a little token/remembrance is left inside? Thanks in advance

denimblueeyes50:
if you go around the DIS site and post 10 responses (quick responses) to old threads you will be able to send PM's. Just a thought, I am new as well and that was the work around I found to the system. I know...not the best, but creative. :)

Hi,
Thanks for letting me know the PM arrived, you should post more then you will be able to send them, LOL.

You only need to do 1 delivery, you can do more if you would like to split it up. Last year I made a party bag of several items and made just the 1 delivery but didn't deliver until later in the cruise. Everyone else also only delivered once. I hope that clears it up for you.

Sounds good about the meet! :yay:

Hi Fellow Disney Cruisers!
It's hard to believe that we will be getting onboard next Saturday! I hope all of you are getting ready without too much hassle. I have lots to do!!
Anyway, we will be having a meet and greet on Embarkation day next Saturday at 3 pm. The location is the Promenade Lounge on Deck 3 near Lumiere's Restaurant, sort of mid ship. This is prior to the safety drill that the ship conducts.
Stop by if you can and say hi, I think there should be drinks and soft drinks available for purchase at the bar, at least there were on our last cruise.
Bring your family too. I will try and get there a little early to look for people and I will try and make a sign so it's easier to spot us. :wave2:

Thank you EVERYONE for your incredibly generous FE gifts. I was so overwhelmed by everyone's generosity especially for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She is new to Disney and besides a t-shirt from Target she had very little gear. :) Thanks to all of you she is fully stocked and THRILLED with all of the gifts! A super happy and overwhelmed THANK YOU!!! What a wonderful group!

As a first time cruiser, I definitely plan to go back.
THANK YOU ALL!!
:)

Hi All

I just wanted to say thank you too for all the wonderful gifts we received. We were all thrilled. A lot of time and effort had been spent on them and they were much appreciated.
It was good to see some of you at the meet and we very much enjoyed it.
Thanks again to all.

Thanks to everyone for the very thoughtful FE gifts. I will have to "up my game" on the next cruise. You guys were very creative in your gifts. We had a great time but I may need to sleep for days to rest after that whirlwind tour. Hope everyone had a great time.

Hi FE Friends!
We had a great time and my family would like to thank you for the FE gifts. It is always fun to see what is out there waiting for them. Everything was great!!

I will post a picture from our meet when we upload the pics to this computer. We had a technical problem with the laptop that was brought on the trip, but fortunately the pictures we loaded on it still seem to be there.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I was tired after the cruise, it was a busy week! We continued on to Belgium on Sunday and returned home Tues.

Just curious what were your most memorable moments during the cruise and your favorite places to see?
My favorite place I think was Rome with Positano a very close second. I think the most memorable parts were watching the sunsets with my husband and seeing Rome with my family. Just standing there and imagining the history, is truly amazing!
Thanks again, will post some pics soon! Darlene Anne

Ours were being on the Magic with a young girl (our friends 7 year old--our kids are in their 30's) seeing Rome and especially Herculenium which was spectacular.
