:welcome: Welcome to the DIS Dad's Club (DDC) thread! :welcome:

"Home of Man Laws and Cheese Balls"

This thread is for all of the DIS Dad's out there! The club was originally created by one dad (The Disney Fanatic (http://disboards.com/member.php?u=157385)) back in November 2007 who was curious to find out how many other dads on the DIS who are just as Fanatical about Disney World! Since that time we have gone through 4 forum threads with more than 14,000 posts, created a group on the Disney Family Community web site (http://family.go.com/community/groups/dis-dads-club-grp/) and have a Facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=121868981193025). On April 5th, 2010, the DDC started it's own fundraising for Give Kids The World (http://www.firstgiving.com/disdadsclub)! We thank The Disney Fanatic most of all for being so inquisitive in the first place!

What is the criteria for joining this club? :confused3 I am glad you asked. If you are a Dad and ANY of the following criteria describes you, you qualify to become a member of the DIS Dad's Club.

The DIS Dad's Club Criteria:

Your passion for Disney equals that of a 7 year old kid.
You have a wife that thinks you are a big kid.
You watch the Free WDW DVDs every week. :happytv:
You get more excited than your kids when a trip to WDW is planned (or the excitement at least equals that of your kids). :yay:
When you say your prayers you ask for God to inspire the Imagineers to come up with fresh new ideas.
When planning family reunions, class reunions, and job conventions you always plan them at Disney World.
You nick-named your son and daughter Mickey and Minnie. ::MickeyMo::MinnieMo
You planned your next Disney trip the day after returning from Disney World.
You debate with your kids about who would win a light saber battle between Mickey Mouse and Darth Vader. :darth::smickey:
Your eyes start to water with tears of joy when you see your kids having a great time at WDW (and you secretly try to dry your eyes).
Your portfolio includes stock in Disney.

You have Mickey, Donald, and Goofy sleepwear.
Your wife wakes you up in the middle of the night because you've been talking about Disney in your sleep again.

You listen to the soundtrack for Wishes and Spectromagic on your MP3 player at work.
Sometimes you feel like you are more excited about being able to take your Family to WDW... than they are about going...and they get pretty excited.

Walking until your legs and feet ache, crowded queues with hundreds of strangers, standing in the hot Florida sun until your skin burns, and finally emptying your wallet of any savings.

We have less than 4 days to go now, and as is my family's tradition , we always decorate our van for the 2660 mile round trip drive to the world.

This post chronicles the transformation from everyday "Dad Van" to the D-L-A Disney World express!

We started with picking our theme. Our last trip was a Princess and Pirates theme, but this year it is Mischief Makers!

Our Featured Characters are : Stitch, Pluto, Donald Duck and Lotso Huggin Bear(In 3-D :3dglasses)!

Our Hood Center piece was provided by RustManFan from over at the DiSigners forum! (Awesome work!!!).

We picked up the art from the print shop today. It is on 1/16th thick waterproof removable vinyl. The average size of the pieces is 13X15 inches, but the hood is 25X25.

A couple of the pieces laid out

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs203.snc4/38505_453673390830_553925830_6636137_1610253_n.jpg

A test of the sizing

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs223.snc4/38478_453688260830_553925830_6636528_868017_n.jpg

And Introducing, Lotso Hugging Bear (IN 3-D! :3dglasses), from exactly where you last saw him in Toy Story 3!

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs194.snc4/38053_453729650830_553925830_6637522_5630558_n.jpg

Lotso is secured using 15 nylon wire straps. The Yellow Ribbon is just decorative, to reflect the yellow rope from the film). We watched the Movie a second time on Sunday night so we could get the pose just right!!

Although we aren't leaving for a few more days, we felt it would be wise to give him a few test days to ensure he's secure.. wouldn't want him to be abandoned at a rest stop somewhere between Toronto and Florida now would we? :rotfl:

Thanks everyone ;) We LOVE this part of the trip! It's been two months of planning!

We still have a lot of work to do on the van, lots of decals to apply and then there is the ink work (we will be using Crayola Window Markers for some infill)

The hardest part was finding a Lotso' Hugging Bear (In 3-D! :3dglasses). We could find the decals all over the place, but we wanted to emphasize the 3-D!:3dglasses part ;)

From the time I posted this:
To all the new guys - I'm truly sorry for what is about to happen. An arms race of sorts has just begun to see who can get in the last word before this thread is closed. I would not be surprised if this thread adds 10 or 15 pages today. Hide the women and children, this will get ugly.

It took 2 hours and 25 minutes, 23 pages, and 338 posts of finish off that thread.
And I called 10 or 15 pages in the day. This is why I don't set betting lines. :sad2:

Nah, it'll be a few more than that - but probably less than both III and IV this time around.

Here's the history so far... granted we've grown considerably since the original thread was opened up - but our history nonetheless...

DDC - Opened 11/11/07 Closed 7/6/09 603 days or 86.1 weeks

Sorry I should have qualified they are 11 and 8 so Star Wars and Indiana Jones have been covered along with most of the other age approved movies.

Here is a good spot from my short Bio I guess

I'm 44 yr old Father of two boys 11 and 8, Married 16 yrs to my lovely wife. Live in Southern NH just below Manchester, I was brought up in a Suburb of Boston and I'm a fan of the Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots, not a fan of Basketball.
Things I'm geeky about besides Disney. Jimmy Buffett,Mustangs, Jeeps, Bugs Bunny 70 and 80's Rock.
I started my Disney addiction in 1974 when my parents brought me to Disney on a regular basis. Starting in 2004 I introduced my kids to WDW and my kids have been hooked ever since, we just bought into DVC this June and we are looking forward to many more trips to our Happy Place.

Cinderella wants to go to the ball, but her wicked stepmother won't let her. As Cinderella sits crying in the garden, her fairy godmother appears, and promises to provide Cinderella with everything she needs to go to the ball, but only on two conditions. "First, you must wear a diaphragm."

Cinderella agrees. "What's the second condition?"

"You must be home by 2 a.m. Any later, and your diaphragm will turn into a pumpkin."

Cinderella agrees to be home by 2 a.m. The appointed hour comes and goes, and Cinderella doesn't show up. Finally, at 5 a.m., Cinderella shows up, looking love-struck and **very** satisfied.

"Where have you been?" demands the fairy godmother. "Your diaphragm was supposed to turn into a pumpkin three hours ago!!!"

"I met a prince, Fairy Godmother," Cinderella replied. "He took care of everything."

"I know of no prince with that kind of power! Tell me his name!"

"I can't remember, exactly...Peter Peter, something or other...."

I guess I should post a quick bio of me.

I am 40 years old. I grew up in northern New Jersey but moved to New York when I got married.

I am an attorney and partner in a prominent NY personal injury/medical malpractice office.

I am a huge fan of fantasy sports, especially football and baseball.

I played ice hockey in high school and still play in a men's league. So far, this year I have probably played in 35-40 games.

I love playing foosball and pool. I have a Tornado T-2000 foosball table in my family room.

I used to play and coach junior football in my hometown before I got married.

Most interesting is my family's business. My grandfather started a business selling movie memorabilia, mostly posters and still pictures, back in the 1940s. My father took it over when he got out of the Coast Guard and he runs it to this very day with my older brother. My father is generally regarded as one of the top movie poster dealers in the world and has been asked to evaluate posters on those PBS memorabilia shows (he refused - too shy). I spent most of my childhood at movie and comic book conventions all over the country. In fact, my first visit to Disney World in 1976 was a vacation following a movie show. They still do conventions and have a store in NJ. They are very prominent on E-Bay (SallyPix).

Man alive!!! I go to work and try to support my family and what happens??? You guys leave without me!!! I did not even get a chance to challenge for the last word...congrats to Fed anyway!!!

Mark that is a hillarious video Loved it:thumbsup2

Don...question...is there a way to edit your post on the new dads and where they are from or do I just need to keep doing what I have been doing??

Sorry about leaving you behind :rolleyes1 Some folks were just chanting "CHANGE! WE WANT CHANGE!"... so I gave it to them. :confused3 :rotfl2:

As for the list... Unfortunately, I cannot grant you the ability to edit the post of the first page. So... we could either:
1.) Keep doing what you are doing and then I could update page 1 later.
or
2.) I can take on the responsibilty to take the requests to update just page 1.
I can go either way.:cool2:

A list of movies I swear to show my boys when they are old enough so they have a clue what I've been quoting all these years and will not be social outcasts among their peers.

In no particular order (feel free to add more)

Young Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles
Better off Dead
Caddy Shack
Pulp Fiction (I edit most of those when I say them)
Ferris Bueller Day Off
48 hrs
Weird Science
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Airplane
Uncle Buck
Addams Family Values
Tommy Boy
The GodFather Movies
Dumb and Dumber
Happy Gilmore
Spinal Tap
History of the World
Animal House
Good Fellas
Lord of the Rings

I like your thinking. Here’s a couple other’s ideas that you kids may not have seen (particularly the uncut version that would really be required to get the full impact of the references)

The Princess Bride
All Monty Python (movies, series, live performances...)
Yellowbeard (some of the same Python folks)
Major League (just to here Bob Uecker doing the play by play if for no other reason)

And a couple of other Guy Movies that get quoted down this way...
The Shawshank Redemption
Full Metal Jacket
Raising Arizona

Very cool, I still have 40 or 50 posters from my theater manager days (hard to believe ones like Days of Thunder are 20 years old now), I keep wanting to take them out and go through them but don't want to risk damaging them just to put them away again because I don't have a place to put them up.

Really interesting, only in America kind of story about my family. My grandfather was a Hungarian immigrant from a family of farmers. He immigrated to the U.S. in the 1920s. Among his many jobs was a poster distributor to movie houses in NYC. The posters he could not place in a theatre were supposed to be thrown out. Instead, he boxed them up and kept them. When my Dad got involved, the store was in NYC near a lot of movie companies and other poster distributors. My Dad told them that he would take the stuff they didn't want and were throwing out. Seriously, I'm talking about 100s of brand new posters from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. Movie collectibles did not really explode until the '80s when many people got wise. Before then, only a few people realized what the stuff was worth and the studios were just throwing it out. I remember one convention, my Dad bought 100 original Empire Strikes Back posters (half-sheets - 22x28) for $1 each in their original packing. They are a couple hundred dollars each now. Now, everything is controlled a lot more, especially the Disney stuff, and the studios realize the money they can make from it.

My unofficial studio (Cinematic Recording Arts Productions) with a staff of one was asked to make a video for our church. We've had a problem getting people to sign up to help with the nursery, so I made this short ad to recruit some more volunteers. See if this would inspire you to sign up and help out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C09Z7xw5Z24

Very nice:laughing::laughing:!

At our church's vacation bible school last month, the kids were playing dodge ball one day when I decided to jump in. I used to pitch and can still throw pretty hard. Totally smoked a kid. Not my proudest moment. Only hit him in the arm, and he was unhurt- just surprised.

On a happier note, since my wife was the VBS director this year and probably will be again next year we have some sway as to what the theme will be. I was thinking, "hmmm, theme. Disney has theme parks. Maybe I can connect the two". And then it hit me. "World Showcase" would be a great theme where we could highlight Paul's missionary journey. So that's what we're doing! Now if I can just figure out how to sneak some hidden Mickey's in to the decorations...:scratchin

Nobody at work was excited about this, so I'll try you guys.

My patience was rewarded!!
I've been checking Travelocity daily for months and today the fare from Richmond to Orlando dropped by $50. Not only that, but it dropped below the magic $150 level which means my miles rewards with Capital One will pick up one of the tickets. So instead of paying nearly $800 to get to the mouse in December, it's going to cost us just $418. Woohoo! Maybe I'll make more ADR's!!

Not only that, but it dropped below the magic $150 level which means my miles rewards with Capital One will pick up one of the tickets. So instead of paying nearly $800 to get to the mouse in December, it's going to cost us just $418. Woohoo! Maybe I'll make more ADR's!!

Nice deal! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

And I'll take Tim's side... just because everyone likes a villain that can be nicknamed "Timmy"! :lmao: :lmao:

That's quite the list of quotable movies you guys have there. A few more for your consideration off the top of my head:

Planes, Trains & Automobiles
What About Bob? (very underrated movie)
My Cousin Vinny
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Untouchables (mostly anything Sean Connery says)
And for cheesy one-liners, you can't beat Commando and Cliffhanger

Oh, and for all of you that have not been reading along with Tim's PRT, that's nice and FreezinRafiki are now mortal enemies. (Tim - I know we agreed on arch nemesis, but you've got to admit - mortal enemy has a very nice poetic ring to it.) So just in case any epic battles for world supremacy break out, y'all have a heads up.

Well, we know Tim is a Yankees fan, so that may push his side into pure evil right there.

If I'm a minion or a henchman, does that mean I have to wear a red shirt?

I got to thinking this morning. Then I stopped and jumped on the DIS.

For those of us that fly to WDW, what is your favorite method of getting tickets? Do you use sites like Expeida or Orbitz?
We have 3 carriers (AirTran, SouthWest and Midwest/soon to be merged with Frontier) that fly direct from Milwaukee to Orlando. I'm on the email lists for AirTran and Midwest, so every once in a while I'll get notified of sales. SouthWest just started flying into Milwaukee, so I haven't had a chance to fly with them yet.

I check all three websites directly and book directly through their site. The prices always seem to be just a bit lower there than the online travel sites. Plus I'm eliminating the middle man, so there can't be any finger-pointing if something goes wrong.

So how about guys - what's your preferred method?

I always check the travel sites but then I go to the official site and double check. The reason I go to the official airline site is because the price is usually the same or slightly less, and there are often more flights available not on the discount sites and I get times that are more convenient for me. ;)

The past couple of years we've been going online to JetBlue's website and just booking them there. They are pretty much the same price as SouthWest for us, maybe $5 more per ticket. But we are definitely a JetBlue family now.

Did you know your last name is an adverb?

I'll admit I haven't seen that movie in years, but I think those quotes were from another villain, not Joe Piscopo. He didn't have the thick accent. He was the "Don't hang me on a hook, Johnny. My mother hung me on a hook once. Once" guy.

I've always been a travelocity, orbitz, etc.. kind of guy but I think that's going to change. It's a long confusing story, but the 4 tickets we bought yesterday were bought in two separate transactions. One ticket through travelocity and 3 through Airtran's website. It turns out that going directly to the carrier for the 3 tickets saved about $11 per person. So we'll be doing that in the future. But most of our travel is done via 2006 Toyota Sienna.. (No wisecracks, Fed).

I've been a pretty diehard Southwest guy for the past 9 years for work, only flying other carriers if I absolutely have to (mainly if SWA doesn't go into a certain market). I've always paid less, and have 98% of the time had great service and no real complaints. I do check the other carriers via Travelocity, Expedia & Orbitz, but SWA only shows up on their own website. Then if I need to use another carrier I always double check on their website as well, but 9.5x out of 10 I'm flying SWA. Plus there are no hidden fees like most other carriers have. As such we are a Southwest family as well.

Price increases the first Sunday of August have been common since '06. Prior to that they came in January. The nice thing is, if you buy tickets now, they are totally valid until you use them, even if ticket prices were to go up again.

I always look for the best deal when I need to purchase park tickets for family members (I have an AP so it doesn't count). I just used UCT for my DD's ticket for our Daddy/Daughter Adventure coming up in Sep., and they were once again, great. Best price I could find, no shipping cost and mailed out the very same day I bought it. Plus if you sign up over on Mousesavers for their monthly newsletter, you can get a special discount code that brings the price down a little further.

Thanks, Stopher. I knew you'd answer. And another question for you. I just read that Guillermo Del Toro is making a Haunted Mansion movie. It will be a total reboot and have nothing to do with the Eddie Murphy movie. Judging by your posts yesterday, I can see you're a big fan of the attraction. What do you think? From the articles I've read, he's been a HM afficionado since he was a kid. That doesn't look like typical Hollywood spin either, it sounds like he's a collector of anything having to do with HM.

You know I just learned about this Monday evening while at our Scout meeting from another Disney friend of mine. I had not heard about it, and honestly haven't taken the time yet to learn more about it. He told me that it's also going to be an actual scary film. So we'll see. I need to check it out and see what I think. But at first blush, I'd welcome another film about my beloved Mansion. I am not a fan of the Eddie Murphy film, though I do really like some of the sets they created, and some of the iconic Mansion aspects that were included. I wish they hadn't made such a lame comey though. They really could have done some cool things and had a great piece like they ended up with Johnny Depp and co. for Pirates. Oh well.

Yes, the Haunted Mansion is my all-time favorite attraction. It is a must-do every single trip, and believe me, I'm a bit distressed & distraught if it's down for a rehab while I'm in either the Land or the World. I really wanted to work in the Mansion when I was at DL, but alas, it never happened. I have framed Mansion art hanging in my house. I have signed concept art too, and books on my favorite attraction. I have a mini-Mansion sitting on my bookshelf in my office. I have Mansion playing cards. As a kid I had an awesome HM board game (not the Mansion branded Clue or Life games they sell these days). Mansion pins are some of my favorites, though I am very particular about which ones I actually get/have. I have been on tours of the Mansion afterhours when the park is closed, and do have (somewhere) some great old photos of the interiors. I have CD's of the soundtrack, as well as the old record album from when I was a kid. And I have the soundtrack in Japanese and French. Naturally I can recite it, as demonstrated yesterday. I've drawn it myself, as well as made computer renderings of it, as well as a lego version years ago (need to do that again). More often than not the HM is my wallpaper on my monitor, and of course it's my avatar here on the DIS.

I definitely prefer the Disneyland original to the Magic Kingdom's version, though both are quite enjoyable. I was quite pleased with a number of the improvements/enhancements that they gave the WDW version a couple of years ago. I definitely like the endless stairway scene layered in to WDW that DL does not have, and was quite pleased that they added in the Portrait Corridor from DL to the WDW version. Since the Tokyo version is a direct lift of the WDW version, while yeah I want to get to Tokyo someday... I really want to experience the Paris version. And from the concept art I've seen of the planned Hong Kong version, I really want to experience that one as well someday. Paris was a departure from the haunted funny to a bit more haunted scary. Hong Kong looks to be another departure to the haunted scary & bizarre.

Did you know that the Haunted Mansion was the very first attraction fully completed at the Magic Kingdom when WDW was under construction? It was. When the DL version was being completed on the inside in 1968-69 (it opened in August 1969 even though the exterior facade had been completed back in 1963...the 1964-65 World's Fair kind of caused Walt and his imagineers to be a bit distracted, and both Pirates and the Mansion were put on hold), the imagineers made the decision to go ahead and make duplicates of the sets for the pending Florida resort since they knew that they wanted to include the new attraction to the MK's roster for Opening Day in 1971. Because of that, once construction on the facade and show building were completed, they were able to quickly add in the track and sets and voila! - it became the first attraction completed and ready to operate - months before the park was ever ready to open.

And did you know, that the organ in the ballroom scene has a history to it? The organ at the MK is an exact duplicate created specifically for the MK version of the attraction - but the original organ for DL was Captain Nemo's orgran used in the film "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." The imagineers switched out the standard music stand for a bat shaped music stand, and added the famous pipes up above, and presto-chango, a nice new haunted organ.

Stopher very impressive! Love the collection and the tutorial!!

Well, what happened was...

That 200 hp Johnson was blown....after just having 1200 dollars of work done on it (and out of warranty---never again)...so I had no "big power". I was trying to load the boat onto the trailer using just the trolling motor. Well, the wind was blowing 30 mph one way, the current was running with the outgoing tide going the other way (see where I'm going with this?)

As I was loading the boat, I had to keep pulling the trolling motor up or it would get caught on the ribs of the trailer...which caused me to lose any control of the boat at all....

Well, finally I got ticked off and figured I'd get out and guide it onto the bunks by standing on the trailer and pushing....weeeellll, I stepped on the painted part of the trailer...and SPLASH!!! Of course, the ramp was narrow and I fell into about 5 feet of water...:guilty:

Worst part was, one of my buddies said.."Mike, I don't think I'd do that if I were you...."

He later said about that time all he saw was my hat floating on the surface:lmao::lmao:

I started to get excited because I knew I could fight for more than 2 days at the world, but now money might become an issue.

Due to "moisture control" issues, we're now going to have to do an unscheduled gutting and remodel of our bathroom.:scared1::scared1::scared1: Good thing I have some money saved up and crossing my fingers for a big bonus this year! I have an opening for a chance to get to WDW and I don't want to miss it!

It's been a while since I last posted any vintage photos. Since we're into a new thread, I'll sprinkle a few here now as well. These are all from Disneyland in the '80's.

Here's Skull Rock (a glorified seating patio - not the multi-colored table off to the side), with the Chicken of the Sea restaurant in the foreground in Fantasyland, prior to its' destruction to make way for New Fantasyland in '83... so probably around '80 or '81.

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/stopher1_photos/Vintage%20Disneyland/1f6c9c78.jpg

Here's the Main Entrance, and the Gift Giver Extraordinaire in 1985 celebrating DL's 30th. Every 30th guest through the gates won a prize, ranging from free food to a new car (one per day). Whenever someone did win the car, the bells would sound, confetti would shoot up, and then the winner would be escorted up Main Street to the Hub where a hydraulic lift would rise out of the center (where the Partners statue stands today), and the car would rise up from underground. No one ever got to drive that individual car home though, they had to pick their's up at a local dealership. Throughout that year I won numerous food items, as well as a couple of books, and a sweatshirt. No car for me. Bummer. But that's okay, because I believe it was then all-new "Geo"... thanks, but no thanks.

Here's a sight you just don't see too often anymore - characters roaming the park! Here Snow and her 7 little friends are heading into Tomorrowland from the central hub (most likely heading back stage for a break). By the just re-planted planter, it appears to be in early spring, and could actually be at the end of the '70's, I'm not sure.

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm34/stopher1_photos/Vintage%20Disneyland/082a2208.jpg

Here's one, probably from '88 or '89 looking into TL from the Peoplemover, down at the entrance queue for Star Tours (just closed on Monday for the extended rehab and Star Tours 2.0. I wish I'd been there for the closing weekend, like I was there for the opening weekend...but at least I'll be at WDW for their closing in September. So it kind of works out to be the same thing... On the left side of TL, is a large mural designed by Mary Blair, the same imagineer who designed the facade and dolls clothes for IASW, and the lovely mural inside the Grand Canyon Concourse at the Contemporary - as well as many other great things. It was a Small World themed mural - VERY, VERY out of place in Tomorrowland. With the '98 New Tomorrowland, it was removed, and replaced by space themed stuff. It was further updated in '05 and looks much better today - complementing the rest of Tomorrowland.

Princess Bride not on y'alls list??? That's just plain INCONCEIVABLE!!!

I think ClearScreen had already mentioned Princess Bride in one of his posts. Or somebody else did. Otherwise, no way we'd leave that one off the list.

Be careful with that "thinking" thing. It's very dangerous.

I've always found the best prices by going directly to the airline websites themselves, and some travel magazine articles I've read seem to confirm that this is usually the best practice. We've flown on Southwest exclusively for the last 10 years or so. I just can't beat their rates, especially since they're the only ones not charging bag fees, fees for switching flights, fees for using the bathroom, and fees for speaking to a flight attendant. For the most part, service has been very good, except for the time we flew to the wrong airport. Did I ever tell you guys that story?

It's definitely no-frills, but it suits us just fine.

Well, the wife told me this past weekend that we need to plan a trip for 2011. She said I could have 2 days at :cool1: WDW and we can go to the beach for the rest of the week. Well as a matter of fact, looking at my itinerary (detailed and color coded by park and meal type of course) DD and I have left the afternoon and evening of the 11th open to spend at the Dig Site. We're gonna try to do rope drop at DHS and stay till lunch at the Sci-Fi (our favorite!) after that we thought we'd just lounge. We'll have GAD passes so should be able to get done early. Before or after dinner would work out great. Problem is, I haven't bought park tickets in about 8 years so I'm unsure of what I'm doing. Do you guys go straight through Disney or another vendor like undercovertourist.com?

We have used undercover tourist more than once and never had any trouble. We use the special link that is in the mousesavers.com monthly newsletter. That link gives you a little better pricing than just going through the link on the mousesavers page or directly to undercover tourist!

Typically, we book our own vacations: room, flights, etc. We get room discounts through this forum; MouseSavers.com; or by a Disney postcard. We book our flights by checking Southwest and Air Tran's Web sites. We used to book a limo to/from the airport but the last trip we used the Magical Express and it was great. As for travel agents, I highly recommend Dreams Unlimited, right here on The DIS. They will get you the best room discounts, make your ADRs, and plan a whole itinerary it you'd like......all for FREE! They aren't really a travel agency, they are more like travel advisors, and it's a great service offered here on The DIS. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Wow, another 7 pages. At this rate, Version 5 will be shut down in 36 days. You all need a weekend to keep you busy and stay off the Dis. Or, I need a better job. Anyone hiring?

or open a restaurant....;)

I missed all the fun of closing down the old thread yesterday. crud...
DDC V was nine pages in by the time I arrived. crud...
I spent an hour and a half reading though all of the posts before I realized that it was 11:30 and all I could think to post was... crud...

Crud....me too.....

Is it wrong that as soon as I read this the following went through my head:

Rollin' in my 5.0
With my rag-top down so my hair can blow
The girlies on standby waving just to say hi
Did you stop no I just drove by
Kept on pursuing to the next stop
I busted a left and I'm heading to the next block
The block was dead
Yo so I continued to A1A Beachfront Avenue

:car:

Nothing wrong with that.....:lmao:

Yes you should. To make amends you must now go and listen to at least 3 AC/DC and 2 Metallica songs. As for me I'm now going to go and beat myself in the head with a ball-peen hammer until I've erased the horrible visions of Vanilla Ice videos playing through my head.

Well...just slide me a beer and I have a story to tell....

The restaurant is great.....busy but great. We actually booked a room for August 15th at POP......but......it was a discounted and "on request". Well it fell through today. kinda disappointing but was not meant to be. We have season passes this year so we are definitely going in Jan but I was hoping to squeeze a summer trip in. We would just drive down. My wife is TA so she is always looking for deals......this could be very dangerous, especially when your wife is just as fanatical as me when it comes to disney.

"Are gringos falling from the sky?" CRASH "Yes El Guapo."

Jefe: I have put many beautiful pinatas in the storeroom, each of them filled with little suprises.
El Guapo: Many pinatas?
Jefe: Oh yes, many!
El Guapo: Would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?
Jefe: A what?
El Guapo: A *plethora*.
Jefe: Oh yes, you have a plethora.
El Guapo: Jefe, what is a plethora?
Jefe: Why, El Guapo?
El Guapo: Well, you told me I have a plethora. And I just would like to know if you know what a plethora is. I would not like to think that a person would tell someone he has a plethora, and then find out that that person has *no idea* what it means to have a plethora.
Jefe: Forgive me, El Guapo. I know that I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect and education. But could it be that once again, you are angry at something else, and are looking to take it out on me?

Well as a matter of fact, looking at my itinerary (detailed and color coded by park and meal type of course) DD and I have left the afternoon and evening of the 11th open to spend at the Dig Site. We're gonna try to do rope drop at DHS and stay till lunch at the Sci-Fi (our favorite!) after that we thought we'd just lounge. We'll have GAD passes so should be able to get done early. Before or after dinner would work out great. I'm looking forward to a few frosty beverages poolside or If I can come up with a minimum order from Garden Grocer maybe more than a couple ;) I am very excited about our first stay at a moderate, I may even have to hit the hot tub no matter the weather. :lmao:

I was going to say kayak.com... But prattpak mentioned that one already. We are jetblue flyers but we have to fly out of Whiteplains, NY or Newburg, NY both about 1hour 15 minutes away. Good thing is Jetblue is starting Florida service out of Bradley (Hartford) this fall!!!!

We use kayak.com it searches ALL the travel sites for you. Then once we find a good one we double check the airlines site to verify pricing.
Exactly what we do! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I've seen in a few places that park tickets are expected to increase on August 1:guilty:. So I better hurry up and buy mine. Problem is, I haven't bought park tickets in about 8 years so I'm unsure of what I'm doing. Do you guys go straight through Disney or another vendor like undercovertourist.com?
UT has the best prices.. as someone else mentioned if you use the link in Mousesavers you get a few more $$$ off. I have a story to tell you about UT, I have to find it first. I'll be back.... :surfweb:

OK back taken from my October 09 TR....

Melody's brother and his wife dropped us off at the airport. We made it through security and stopped at the bathroom. Our flight was already boarding! We got settled in the plane and we were waiting to leave. Everyone was on the plane and we were just sitting there. After 10 minutes of sitting I went numb. I turned to Melody and it went something like this:
Me- "OH MY GOD!"
Melody- "What?"
Me- "OH MY GOD!"
Melody- "What? What's wrong"
Me- "I left our park tickets in my top drawer"
Melody- "You are joking. You are joking right?"
Me- "No I'm serious. I left them in the top drawer."

I bought tickets from Undercover Tourist in the summer before the ticket prices went up. I put the tickets in a safe place..... a place where I wouldn't lose them. Apparently this place was where I would leave them while I was on a plane headed to Disney!!!!!!! I have no idea how I did this. I felt soooo bad. I was even nauseous.

The door finally shut and we were taxiing to the runway. I kept telling Melody I was sorry and I felt horrible, and I would fix everything once we got to Orlando. I managed to snap a few pics on the plane.

Jump ahead...
Melody & Juliana went to look in the gift shop and I stayed with the stroller in front of the restaurant. I went to check the time on my cell phone and I noticed I had a voicemail. I looked at the number and it was a Florida number. I didn't know if Melody's cousin was trying to get a hold of us so I checked my message. Undercover Tourist (the place I bought our park tickets from) called me back and wanted me to call them. I called them back and spoke to a very nice woman and I explained what had happened. She said she had all my info and to call her back when I got to guest services with a fax number. She had copies of the back of my tickets and would fax that over. SCORE!!!!

One more jump....
We hopped back on the monorail back towards MK. We got our bags checked and I headed over to guest services. The line was pretty long but was moving quickly. I got up to the window and quickly explained what was going on. I got the fax number and called UT. They send the fax over. The CM and I were waiting for it to arrive. The cover letter came but no second page. We were waiting & waiting. I called UT again and asked them to send the second page over. While I was on the phone I saw the CM go over to the fax machine. The second page was stuck inside the fax and it was crumpled and not legible. A moment later my fax was coming through!!!! Our tickets were reissued and we were ready to go!!

Point is...UT has some of the best service around.. and the best prices. Their prices include TAX & SHIPPING! We have bought tickets from them 2 times and will most likely be buying all our tickets from them. If you ned the mouse savers newsletter PM me. I'll email it to you. :)

Jimmy Buffett,Mustangs, Jeeps, Bugs Bunny 70 and 80's Rock.

as posted in DDC IV, i now own a 2011 v6 mustang. Sure, it's an automatic (please don't judge too harshly), but it's still my first Mustang.

I see you're a Mel Brooks fan.:thumbsup2

And for some reason, I've been quoting Clue lately.

1+2+2+1.
Nah-uh. only ONE shot got the chandelear, that's 1+2+1+1.
Even if you WERE right, that'd be 1+1+2+1, not 1+TWO+1+1.

Hey Disney Commando, I followed the link at the beginning of this thread to the post where you listed your Mustang stable. Awesome! I'm a Stang guy as well and my Dad has an original owner 1972 Mach 1, bright yellow with black accents! Unfortunately his is a 2 barrel and no ram air. It's in pretty rough shape right now but I hope to get it restored some day soon(if I can stop spending so much money at Disney ;) )

I'm a ragtop man, had a '85 LX 5.0 vert many years ago, went through almost a couple decades of sensible cars (did my time in the minivan!) and now have an '08 GT500 vert. Trying to talk my wife into a new 5.0 but she's just not into cars :sad2:
305 hp is enough. I'd kill myself with a 412 hp GT.

Wow...11 pages deep and I'm finally here. That's crazy.
I went on Vacation, and have been out since Friday... guys, i have to work! give the rest of the team a chance!

A few more of my favorite "Man" movies:

Jaws
The Great Escape
Guns of Navarone
Jeremiah Johnson
Clerks (a personal favorite and so quotable)

Lots of good ones already posted - good call on "Kelly's Heroes." I thought I'd add a few more.

On a serious note, how do you guys book your vacations to The World? I ask because for our Disneymoon we used a local travel agent, but for our last two trips, we've booked through Disney's site. Anybody have experience with Mouse Fan Travel? Or any other reputable Disney travel agent? I have a feeling we could save a lot of money booking through an agent than booking straight through Disney. But the comfort of knowing Disney did the booking kind of puts me at ease.
We stick to the Disney Website. I know it's less expensive to do some other sites, but that's what we do.

Is it wrong that as soon as I read this the following went through my head:

You won't regret your decision. Your wife and kids probably will though. It's not the best of working conditions, considering the war to end all wars looming. But did I mention we have Hawaiian Shirt Fridays? Yup, you can leave the battle armor at home and wear jeans and your favorite Hawaiian shirt every Friday. I wouldn't recommend leaving the battle armor at home, though.
