please explain about "cashing" some of your trip

please explain to me about "cashing" some of your trip. is an example of this when you book a studio, but upgrade to an available 1 br, for example, and then pay in cash the difference between the two? thanks!

If you can find a "cash" reservation for weekend nights, it will save some points. You cannot pay some cash and some points for any single night at a DVC resort however. At other WDW resorts, if you can upgrade to a concierge room, they will allow you to pay the difference in cash when staying on points.
Otherwise, each night can either be a cash reservation or a point reservation. Enjoy!
