Talked to my guide this AM about Pool Hopping

I spoke with my Guide this morning about the pool hopping situations.

Pool Hopping is suppose to be suspended at ALL RESORTS during the Easter and Xmas Season including the DVC resorts. They have discussed removing all pool hopping benefits but no decision has been made. The current plan is to not allow pool hopping at the new resorts (ie Animal Kingdom Lodge). In addition to suspend pool hopping when a new DVC resort is added to an exisiting resort (ie Wilderness Lodge and Beach Club.) They hope most of the problems will be resolved when Stormalong bay is no longer an option for pool hopping.

Another good reason to buy where you will stay the most & book at the 11 month mark.... Might have to look into those water passes after all :D

Why is this the first time we're hearing it. I don't doubt what your guide told you, but it sounds like a sudden, knee jerk reaction answer after all the recent complaining. These two holidays have always been peek times. If this policy has always been in effect, why did they just inform us in VM about SAB. And I think he also hinted at what half of us have been expecting- pool hopping is going away.

It's a sacrifice but I guess I will be buying those BCV points when they open up :D

Actually I'm not happy that they are thinking about discontinuing pool hopping. I was really looking forward to trying some of the other pools. Hopefully they will decide to suspend pool hopping during PEAK season only. Otherwise I would consider it very unfair for them to suspend my privileges without verifying that other pool goers are resort guests as well.

Don't worry about the loss of pool hopping. just pretend your a florida res or an off-site guest.

As with anything to do with DVC, if there is something you would like them to know, take the time to write a letter. It can't hurt and it may help to express member views' to management. This is not a "call to action" on this particular topic but just a general rule of thumb with any DVC policies.

If you are not staying at a resort you should have no expectation of using the pool there. Why is this such a difficult concept? I wouldn't want people taking up my space if I paid to stay there regardless of whether or not you are a dvc member. I hope they eliminate hopping for good.

I think PamOKW is right. If it's a concern write a letter. I probably will because I think the problem is caused more by locals and discount hotel guests and it will make me mad if they discontinue my pool hopping privlege and don't do anything about the real problem. I also think that if they make or publize the policy on no pool hopping during peak times this will also take care of a lot of the hard feelings caused by the confusion.

I have a great concept for you if you think pool hopping is wrong Don't Pool Hop. But for others it's a nice benefit and was talked up by their guides when they bought. I don't think DVC members are a detriment to the various pools. As mentioned numerous times it's the people who have no right to be there that are the problem. I see no reason to scrap the whole thing. :mad:

In my member's guidebook (next to a picture of Mickey floating in an inner tube) it says "Disney Vacation Club Members and your guests staying with you at the Disney Vacation Club Resort have access to all Walt Disney World resort swimming pools."

It's pretty clearly spelled out, wouldn't you say? Now, if Disney decides to revoke this privilege, let them announce a change to their policy. They haven't done it yet, although I suspect that they will. But until they do, I'm going to be under the impression that the privilege still exists. Why is that such a difficult concept?

I agree with Jimbo. DVC needs to make an announcement to its members of a major change in policy/practice. Pool hopping is viewed by some as a major benefit even if they dont take advantage of it. Given the state of the pool at OKW, my family has certainly taken advantage of it from time to time.

I will wait for an announcement from DVC and see how they get around the customer dissatisfaction of this kind of major change (assuming they really do try and do away with pool hopping especially at Stormalong Bay). BTW, buying at VBC wont help either. Even if you own there, unless you are STAYING there you wont be considered a registered guest.

The purpose of this post was to let you know what DVC response was. Not to start a debate over whether pool hopping is good or bad. Nor was the post meant to start speculations that Fla residence and non-WDW resort guest are to blame. Before this goes to far I am locking my original thread.
