View Full Version : My shorts bunch up

Don't you hate it when the inseams of your shorts bunch up when you walk? I don't want to spend the day at Disney surreptitiously picking at my crotch trying to dislodge a bunch of material! Does anyone have a tip for reducing inseam bunching?

Well, you got me and my girls laughing out loud. :)

My dd says, "Tell her she's not alone! I just pick it out."

Sooooo glad to know I'm not alone! :p

I've found that denim shorts, shorts with some spandex content, and shorts that are a little longer in length are less likely to bunch.

Can't stand the bunch.:Pinkbounc

I wear those biking shorts or exercise shorts at Disney. They stay put and are made with Coolmax, so they're cooler, too. I bought some at K-Mart for about $6 a pair. Wouldn't be caught dead in them at home, but with a nice big Disney T-shirt, they do great for Disney trips. I buy a size larger than I normally wear and they don't fit quite so skin tight.

Londonpenguin.........if you were in England, then you wouldn't need to wear your shorts - just your wellingtons!!!!!

My daughter yells at me when I pick out my bunch.

What is up with that anyway?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who suffers with this....... I've found an alternative. Every few steps when the bunch occurs, lift the leg slightly to the side and the bunch falls out............however, this leads to a Monty Python type walk and other people will begin to eye you up suspiciously................! (Does this look any better than 'picking' the bunch out????) Perhaps just better stick to the cycling shorts, or the ones that come down to the knee!

That used to happen to me until I lost a bunch of weight!!! :)

Just pick the bunch out....no one knows you there....dont go walking around Disney uncomfortable!! :)

LOL---this is a funny thread!!!:p :p

You know, I think when we're tired and sit down for awhile on a bench, I will occupy myself by counting the number of people I see picking their bunches.

UKAnnie: I totally can do the Monty Python walk! ;)

You guys are too funny! Like CDisney, I've found that wearing denim shorts prevents "unsightly bunching". ;)

I find myself doing the walk all the time and wonder if people think I'm a strange walker. I want to buy new shorts but I keep thinking I'll be losing the weight soon. Plan on starting the Weight Watcher again on Sunday. Lost 25 pounds in the past and kept all but 3 pounds off. Wish me luck. I want to look "hot" without the bunch next year!:earseek:

First I get the bunch thing, then I get the chaffing! When the chaffing happens, I'm done for. I'm looking for some of those biking type short to wear under my shorts to prevent both.

Oh, and I always pull my bunch out of my crack as I'm standing up so as not to be so noticable!:teeth:

Chaffing that is what I need to figure out how to stop. I wore a pair of cotton shorts to Six Flags as to not chaffe and I was twice as bad. I know that denim chaffes if you get wet but does it if you are dry. Can anyone tell me? Thanks

ReneeQ
08-21-2002, 05:06 PM
There is no chaffing if you wear the bicycle shorts!

But don't dispair. You are definitely not alone. And you want to know what? You don't have to be a little overweight to have the goats as my daughter calls them (don't ask). It's called inner thighs. I'm a size 5/6 junior and I still get the goats and yes I do the walk too! I try to go undetected with my leg shift though. Sometimes I'll just stop walking and stand with my legs apart so the goats will just fall out of the bunch. I agree with being comfortable though and the people at WDW won't care less if your picking your goats out. They don't know you from Adam. I really havn't found anything that works great although it is definitely worse if your legs are sweating or your shorts are wet and the chaffing is the killer! Too funny!

I've found that applying some baby powder (talc) between your legs before going to the parks will magically prevent chaffing (even if the shorts bunch up). The trick is to rub the powder between you legs before putting on your shorts and make sure that the surface between your legs is smooth after putting on the powder. A little excess also helps. And, if you really have the bunch up problems, bring a small travel size bottle into the parks and rub a little extra in if you get really sweaty or have a problem with short bunching (I don't usually have the short bunching problem but tend to chafe occasionally). This may sound like a corny idea, but it works.

The other option is to wear bike shorts around the parks. A lot of women tend to do this, but for us guys we occasionally still get looked upon like we are strange if we wear bike shorts for anything other than excercise. Personally, I don't care and I wear the regular ones that aren't shiny with a t-shirt. Nobody knows me and heck... I'm comfortable and it works (plus the wife likes me in em)! After all, it stinks to be uncomfortable and chaffed to death!

I know it sure sounds funny, but I've been in near tears with the chaffing thing.:( I don't get it when I wear shorts too much, but I sure do when I wear a dress. I really like the capri pants better than shorts or dresses though.........no crack bunching or chaffing!;)

Just make sure your shorts have pockets. Then every once in a while, put your hands in your pockets and sorta flip 'em out as you walk. Don't do it too much though... people will think you're well... you know.

LOL!!! This works for me.

This thread is so hilarious!!!!!! When I go to WDW next week, I am going to watch to see if people are trying "un-noticeably" to get their "bunch" out...LMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You cant help but notice now that someone brought it up....and who woulda known that this was such a problem???

When I used to have the problem, I thought it was just me!!! LOL

Man, I gotta go back and read this thread again!!! TOO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!:p :p :p :p :p :p

1.) LMAO - had I known the bunching and the picking (sounds like some gardening thing out of context) were so common place, I wouldn't feel so classless doing it!!!

2.) Just reading about people "picking their crack" is the damn funniest thing I've read in a long time. I'm not gonna be able to sleep because I have the giggles now.

3.) As far as the chaffing goes, use Bacitracin if you do end up getting chaffed!!! IT WORKS WONDERS! Look for it with the Neosporin. It doesn't just cool the burning, it actually heals it. I used it before I went to bed with some horrendous chaffing, and the next morning it was gone.

I agree! And for all you QVC shoppers, I love the Denim & Co. Capri Leggings! Very comfortable (one downside though, no pockets).

And I'm glad I'm not the only one with that "bunching" problem too!

What a hoot!! I'm still laughing!!!
Go to the Dollar Store and get a "Gold Bond" like powder for a buck.
I was thinking capris in December because you don't know what the weather will be, but this is another good reason! I'll have to try the bike shorts, too!!

Zinc Oxide Ointment will also help with the chaffing. Apply it liberally to where you would normally chafe, and you'll be fine. :)

Yes, no matter what kinda shorts I wear they bunch..unless they are denim shorts....my recommendation, switch to denim and get some differnt colors if you get sick of the blue....

For chaffing I found a differnt solution, though I do not get it with denim shorts..use hand or body lotion on the inside of your legs, any type with do, such as Intensive Care Lotion, Bath and Body works body lotions, any type works..have never had chaffing since I started doing this years ago.

Hope this helps some one...I am so glad...I AM NOT ALONE with this...hehehe

This happened to me at work the other day and I was wearing regular pants that seem to ride up. An older man asked me if I was going to the show. I was confused and asked him what he meant. He said I saw you picking your seat!:o

You mean I'm not the only one? I do the walk thing-y too! My Mom swears by using Desitin to help prevent and treat chaffing.
I usually wear a pair of cotton bike shorts under my regular shorts (way to self conscious to wear just the bike shorts). This works pretty well, and helps "hold you in" like a light girdle!

I will never buy linen shorts again because they are so rough and they caused chaffing. Vaseline helped. I threw the shorts away, even though they were perfectly good, that's how much I hated them.

What a hoot! Crack bunchers unite...too funny. My sister in law says you must announce that you are goin for wedgie removal, it's only good manners. LOL. Awhile ago I noticed a garment on QVC that would prevent chaffing and the dreaded bunch/wedge thing. It was a long legged under garment, like a bike short, but made of a more breathable material. I think I saw it at Walmart too. I agree with you all about the denim shorts not bunching, I've found if you wear not too wide or narrow legged shorts they won't bunch.
Good luck to all you poor chaffed bunched souls!
I'm going on a hunt for the undies and will report back asap!!

I've given up and taken to wearing coullottes. Way more comfortable and cooler than wearing tight shorts, especially walking around WDW! And best of all....no waddle walking, no bunch picking, and no men walking behind me wondering if I'm a loose woman!

I can't believe a topic I posted has now run to three pages! :earseek: I'm dead chuffed!

For all you bunch-picking ladies (okay, suddenly I'm having a flashback to the old "Hee Haw" show: "I'm a'pickin'!" "And I'm a'grinnin'!"), I found some nice shorts -- slightly longer; nice, lightweight material -- at Title 9 Sports. I can't remember the URL right now, but I'm pretty sure it's just http://www.title9sports.com . They are somewhat expensive, but I think they will be non-bunching. Yay! :)

I can see it now. You know that website for the bad shoes?......Yep, a website devoted to pics of 'crack pickers'!:p

P.S. they also now have some cute little spandex type lightweight girdle thingies out there that wear well. The first time I saw them I thought 'no way I'll ever fit into those tiny things'. But, hey they did stretch. Quite comfy. And, I also love the capri pant thing. Of course I think every other woman around here bought those this Summer.:)

That reminded me of a joke about this old man who was at chuch one Sunday. There was this lady sitting in the pew in front of him and every time she stood up to sing, her dress got in a bunch. He got tired of looking at it so he reached over and gently pulled it out. She felt it and turned around and slapped him. He said "Sorry maam." then stuffed it back in there!:p
