Wow, I can FINALLY post after lurking on this board for a couple of months as I'm now officially ENGAGED!

Guess I should start with introductions (using code names as I don't want peeps searching for me..lol!):

Me - I'm Mim. 35 yrs old and lover of all things Disney! I have lost track of how many times I have been there :) This will be my first marriage (and um, last!!)

Merlin - My fiance (aka M to shorten it up!) 37 and NEVER been to Disney. Can you believe it?? He will be going on his first trip this October!

J - my son from previous relationship. He will be 18 in September. He grew up going to Disney all the time -however will not be joining us in Oct this year :(

K -Merlin's daughter, age 11 from previous marriage. Never been to Disney either but celebrating her first trip this October! :yay:

We just got back from vacation where he asked me to be his wife on Monday, July 12th! Pics to follow if I can figure out HOW to post them!

We have known for awhile that we wanted a small wedding with just immediate family (and MAYBE a few friends). Since my immediate family goes to Disney World together on family trips, we thought this would be a perfect plan! We are looking to have an Escape wedding in April 2012. We would have done 2011, but my brother is getting hitched in Hawaii next April so we need to budget!

I know I have quite awhile but hope to do a little planning here and there up until the big day!

PS - if anyone can tell me how to upload pics that would be GREAT! LOL Thanks!

Just wanted it to check in real fast. We are going to the beach for a few days ALONE to celebrate our engagement since the whole family was with us for the event!

We talked a little last night about the ceremony and we are pretty set on Sea Breeze Point but debating a 10am or 12 noon time slot. Of course, I still have PLENTY of time since I can't even book until next year around this time..sigh..such a LONG wait!

I will post when I get back about how we met and our engagement story :)

Hi Mim!

Congratulations on your engagement! I agree with brer rabbit - your engagement pictures are lovely.

Sea Breeze Point is a great location - I think that's where I want our vow renewal.

I look forward to your updates.

Take care,

Thanks everyone! We had a great few days away:beach:

How we met:

M and I met back in high school. He was 2 years older than me, but we had a free period together. This was like a study hall but you didn't have to be in a specific room. We would mostly hang out in the cafeteria. We really didn't hang out other than in school. I was dating my son's father all through high school so I didn't really think of M as anything other than a friend. He graduated in 1991 and I lost track of him after that :sad1:
I ran into him once during our 20's but only briefly at a get together we were at. He doesn't even remember it! :lmao: It is AMAZING that we never ran into each other again though b/c we have SO many friends in common. We believe the timing must have never been right ;)

Fast forward to Fall 2008 - I wasn't dating anyone after coming out of a bad relationship a few years earlier. I was focused on myself and my son. I had joined Facebook earlier that year at the urging of my sister. I got a friend request on day from M and was so excited as I always remembered him being a cool guy friend. We went back and forth via facebook and he asked to maybe catch up for a drink. Being the homebody that I am I was hesitant, but I told him that it would be nice to get out of the house and meet up with him when we could arrange it. We exchanged numbers and started texting that weekend..just friendly texts about meeting up. He called me the following week and we ended up chatting for HOURS that night. Same thing the following few nights..at this point I was wondering if this could be turning into a DATE! Lo and behold, he was wondering the same thing! By Thursday we just came out and asked each other if it was in fact, a date. And we both hoped it was! We went out on our first date that Saturday and have been together ever since :woohoo:

Being that we both had kids, we were a little leary about that..however everything felt so right from the beginning. We slowly started introducing each other to the kids. Eventually, he moved in and its been WONDERFUL!

The kids enjoy each other (i think b/c there is such an age difference!) and our familes get along well. In fact, my whole family was in on his engagement plans!

Engagement story coming up soon!

Onto the Engagement Story!

We had talked for awhile about getting engaged. Unfortunately, things were kind of crazy with work with a threat of a strike, so we were trying to save money and not make any big purchases. I actually went on strike in June, but thank goodness it only lasted 2 weeks :thumbsup2

After I got back to work, DF told me that he was going to purchase a ring, but I had no clue when he would ask. I was thinking it would be in October when we make our trip to Disney!!

My sister and her family live in NC by the beach, so we go every summer on vacation. We scheduled this year's vacation around my sister's birthday. On the night of her birthday (7/12/10), we scheduled dinner at a restaurant right on the ocean. Before dinner, we decided to take some pictures up on the beach of the family. As we were taking pictures, all of a sudden DF dropped to one knee. I was so shocked - I really didn't expect this here, in front of my family on my sister's birthday!! Since we were taking pictures, my brother-in-law caught the whole thing - which I'm SO thankful for! Everyone was in on it and kept the secret during the whole vacation!!

Details so far!

Escape Wedding
Where: Sea Breeze Point
When: April 24, 2012 - prob 10am or noon

Going to have a small wedding party consisting of my son (J) serving as Best Man, and DF's daughter (K) serving as Bridesmaid. We will also have my niece and nephew as Flower Girl and Ring Bearer.

Thinking 20-25 guests.

I think my colors will be pistachio and pink - but not 100% decided on this yet!

I still have lots of time and hope to use our October trip to Disney for some inspiration!! :goodvibes

Thanks Pixiegirl!

This morning I sent Randy Chapman an information request for package pricing. I'm hoping it is within our budget to hire an outside photographer and from what I'm reading, he seems to have reasonable prices! Hopefully I will hear back from him soon and will have time to save $$. I'm also debating on whether to do an engagement session while we are in Disney this October :confused3

If not, I think I will have my sister take some pictures of us and maybe us those for our STDs.

I have decided that I'm not even going to look for a dress until May of next year. There is so much out there and with styles changing all the time I don't want to end up buying something and seeing something I like better at a later date. I swear I am the most indecisive person in the world :upsidedow

We are also trying to narrow down if we are sticking to 18 guests or going to splurge the extra $500 for a few more people. I'm not sure I want to spend basically $100/pp if I can keep the list down. I know some people are going to be upset, but if we keep it right at 18, we include our immediate families and that is good for me.

Other than that, I'm just enjoying reading everyone else's plans on the boards!

There are so many decisions to make!!! I went dress shopping and picked my dress but what I do is once I have made a decision I don't look anymore. Or at least that is what I am trying to do!! Good luck with your decisions.

So I just made my first official wedding purchase!! SO excited!

We talked over the weekend and we have decided we are having an UP themed wedding. This is 'our' movie and its Disney so it just makes sense. I wasn't going to do a theme of disney at all b/c I was afraid of DF's reaction - but HE actually brought it up and LOVES it!

I bought the wedding cake topper off of Etsy - its Ellie and Carl and I can't WAIT to get it!

Thats about it in wedding news!

I really want to do the Mickey fans or something like that for our programs, but there is no way that I can order them and stay on budget. I have decided that I'm going to try to make as many things as I can to save..soooo....

I went to Joann's Fabric website today and all the Cricut stuff is on sale. I snagged the Mickey and Friends cartridge for $33.99!! :woohoo:

Just a heads up to all of you out there in case any of you guys were looking for one..the actual machines are on sale too!

Making the fans yourself is so much cheaper! I cannot even believe the difference. And you got an incredible deal on your cricut cartridge!! I think that I paid about $120 for mine (in Canada when it first came out). It is a great cartridge, there are so many things that you can do with it, I hope you enjoy it!!

Just checking in after the weekend - I went to the beach again but this time with my BFF! :beach:

Randy emailed me with some package prices and they are VERY reasonable. I am going to email him back asking if we can just tweak some times and see what that would cost. I'm so excited that DF said we should hire an outside photographer!

We also talked about a Magic Kingdom photo session thru DPS but I'm not sure I really want to spend the $$ for that. I just don't want to regret NOT doing it but that money could really be spent elsewhere..

Not much else going on...trying to work on a budget and savings plan!

I haven't started it yet because the ring isn't on my finger yet. In fact, he's picking it up today! Maybe I should just go ahead?

Hmm, if we have the wedding when we're planning to, I will be just about 37!

I got another wedding purchase in the mail this week!!:) Since we are doing the UP theme, I ordered "Our Adventure Book" off of Etsy. I plan on making a scrap book of our relationship up to the wedding out of it and giving it to DF as a wedding gift. Now I just have to keep it hidden and work on it when he isn't around..oh boy.

I am also debating where to stay for the wedding. I was thinking the Grand Floridian b/c I think the pictures would be awesome and I have stayed there a couple of times, but I am also just dying to stay at the Beach Club and have NEVER been there..any opinions or info would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'm also thinking of adding on a 4 night cruise for our actual honeymoon. We already decided we will send the kids home with our parents and stay in Disney a few extra days ALONE! But now I'm thinking that maybe a cruise would be nice. I guess it would depend on cost and since we will have the annual passes, I'm not sure if it would just be cheaper to stay and nix the cruise..:confused3

I heard back from Randy on customizing the photo package and I'm SUPER excited!! I also emailed him back inquiring about an Engagement Session since we will be in WDW this October!

We also think that we are going to to a private dining at Fultons for our lunch reception. Has anyone used them before?? There seems to be more choices on their menu than other WDW lunch menues and I don't really want a catered event (unless we do a DP!)

madamemim1975

I am so confused :confused3

I am now thinking of switching to a Wishes wedding and just be done with it. There are so many add-ons that I want that I'm thinking it might make more sense...but the $$ is obviously holding me back. We would def stick with the early time slot so that our min would be 10k but can I justify that amount?? I just don't know.

I might also change my date to May as rates are somewhat lower for accomodations in Disney..

I am stressing so much right now its ridiculous.

I also talked to someone at DFTW and might set up a site visit for when we go in October. She really answered some questions for me and she isgoing to have someone call me back in 24-48 hours.

anyway, can anyone tell me the pros and cons and talk me into one or the other? LOL

I love the scrapbook Idea!!!!

We are staying the first four days in a two bed villa with some of the wedding party and then for the night before and the night of the wedding stay at the Grand.

I would def. add on the cruise!!!! We love DCL and if you have any questions about it I've been on three four nights so I will be happy to help you out. You can alos head over to the cruise boards and get lots of questions answered there. But don't pass up the cruise it's AMAZING!!!

Don't stress It will all come together and be eaiser once you figure out the month you want to do it. I think May would be a great month to do it. There are many different places you can choose from if your a wishes Bride and if you think that you will meet the min. then GO FOR IT!! Since we have 60-?? Guests it's def going to be a wishes wedding for us. GOOD LUCK!!

Hopefully DFTW will help you and set your mind at ease:cloud9:

If you're going to be spending that much anyway, I've read so many reviews about just bumping up to the Wishes wedding and it working great. However, I find a con with that course of action is naturally the $10,000 minimum. Being an Escape bride helped keep me pretty far below that number, so I know that budget wise it's the more friendly option. I guess it depends on what you're willing to spend! :confused3

This is where my dilemma lies..I was so set on the Escape since its so much cheaper, but then I worry about a catered event, or the MK photoshoot that DF says HE wants and i'm not sure what to do. I am typically the frugal one in the relationship so this is so hard. We are going to sit down this weekend and we will make of list of MUST haves and maybe nots...

Thanks..I took my son on the Disney cruise when he was 9 and we LOVED it..(OMG - he will be 18 next month - its been a long time )

But if we go with a Wishes wedding, I'm sure we will cross the cruise off the list for now..

As i think you said, if you have a private catered event, your Escape minimum would rise to $7,500 anyway so with a few add ons you would soon reach the $10,000 and a Wishes event would give you much more flexibility!!
Good luck whatever you decide!!

So, after MUCH thought and MANY converstaions, DF and I have decided to go with a Wishes Wedding. Since Disney changed the policy of adding on 5 extra guests for the extra $500, we really don't have a choice in order to include those most special to us.

I contacted DFTW to see if we could set up a site visit in October when we are there. I missed the call yesterday and I was so upset :sad1: However, Michelle emailed me with TONS of information so I hope we can get the ball rolling!

We are so excited..of course I get sick to my stomach thinking about all the money we are spending but DF says that I deserve it since I waited so long to get married :rotfl2: Now we just have to stay as close to 10k as possible!!

Just glad we finally made a decision on wishes vs escape! :cheer2:

We got back on Thursday night from our vacation! Had lots of changes after our site visit:

We are now doing WP for the ceremony, Narcoosees for reception and still keeping Sago Cay for the dessert party!!

We also had an Engagement shoot with Randy Chapman! WOW is all I can say - he was amazing!! Can't wait to see the finished product!

I also had my hair and makeup done by Beaute Special. Laine did all of it and she was outstanding!

Just wondering - does anyone have any pics of receptions held at Narcoosee's??

Hey everyone! Sorry I have been MIA. I had surgery in October and I'm finally up and around.

We got our e-pics back from Randy - WOW..over 500 pics! I'm hoping that I can work on them over the holidays and post some. If anyone wants a sneak peek, they are on Randy's facebook page (Jill & Pete)!

I sent Michelle an email making sure she had our top 4 dates/times for the lottery which will be coming up shortly..wow, time flies! I'm crossing my fingers that we get our date and hoping that our early ceremony time of 10am will help with that.

We have decided we may have to up the guest count to 40 (from 30). I'm okay with this so that we can include more of who we want there..of course I'm sure not all of the 40 we invite will be able to attend.

Anyway, I feel like as soon as we get our date, I can actually start planning!! I hope to work on our STDs and the first newsletter after the holidays! (my wonderful brother is going to help me on those!)

Thanks for sticking around with me :santa:

THANKS everyone! I'm super excited - even moreso now because we got a PINCODE from Disney for the week we were looking to go for our planning session and I booked it yesterday!! It was for 40% off Deluxe and 35% off Mods and Values.

We were going to do Wilderness Lodge but opted to try Port Orleans Riverside to save $200. Since we aren't bringing the kids, we decided to just go cheaper - plus trying to save some $$.

So we will be in Disney 11/29-12/3!! Can't wait!!

Congrats on getting your date! Were you able to get a confirmed date from Narcoosee's and the DP yet? We're planning a March 2012 VR and they told me they book 12 mos out (I'm not a DFTW bride though so the guidelines may be different). Congrats on booking the trip to Disney too, I hope you guys have fun! We did POR 2 years ago and it was pretty.

The email I received had Narcoosee's and the DP time listed as reserved. However, it does say all of it is tentative until we sign the LOA which will be sent out at the 12 month mark. So as of now, it is held, but I'm assuming if a convention comes in to book up until May, we would have to rearrange the schedule. If not, it will be confirmed as ours in May.

The only thing I really worry about is the dessert party since we are doing such an early ceremony, I think we should be good with the WP & Narcoosee's. Hope I didn't just jinx myself! :goodvibes

Looking forward to check out Port Orleans. I have never stayed there so we thought we would try something new. I think we are still going to rent a car b/c DF can't stand losing time on the bus :rotfl2: Does anyone know if you stay on property is the parking free or reduced at the parks???

I know I've been MIA, but have had a lot of stuff going on lately!

First of all - WE ARE AT OUR ONE YEAR MARK TODAY!!!:dance3:

But I'm stressing a bit because I have not heard ANYTHING about our LOA and/or room block process. I sent an email to our consultant, but haven't heard back. I'm getting a little impatient. Please tell me that this is NORMAL and that I will have my LOA in my sweet hands by this week??

It is to my understanding thay you need/should have gotten your room block information a month before your year mark. Because the room block information needs to be complete before your LOA can be sent and drawn up. I would be call them today and figure out what's going on!! :goodvibes

CONGRATS ON THE ONE YEAR MARK!!! :cheer2:

YIKES..So I just called and left a message for our consultant. The girl who answered the phone said that she was in today so hopefully I will hear something. She did say that their power is out, so emails might be slow coming!! :rotfl: (I work for a power company..too bad not in Florida!)

I am disappointed that I haven't been contacted though. If room blocks should have been done last month, that just makes me sad and a little afraid of whats to come with the whole planning process. :(

Yea I agree with PP..you have to do the room block before you can sign the LOA :( I know there have been some staffing shake ups recently, so I'm sure they've all been stressed and busy beyond belief. Not an excuse by any means - but hopefully they will expedite the process since you've been so patient.

WE GOT OUR LOA!!:cool1:

We are going to look it over this weekend and hopefully send it back with our deposit on Monday!

I do want to note that there is a part that says the Grand Floridian is currently undergoing exterior and/or interior renovations and construction. I may be sending another email to see if that is the ellusive DVC construction. Or maybe this is something they put in all LOA's in case there is some renovations going on?? :confused3

Congrats on the LOA! That means time is starting to fly.
:faint: I'm pretty sure you gave me a heart attack on the GF construction though...I'm not looking forward to any of that! :guilty:

We have sent back the deposit and the signed LOA!! :cool1:

I have also ordered my dress!!

I went and spent like 4 HOURS at this one salon and narrowed it down to 2..but then I went back to David's the next day to the original dress I tried on there like a month ago. Needless to say, I ended up buying that one! It's totally different then what I thought I would get but I am so in love with it on. To me, its very vintage and I will be accenting it with a feather or flower clip in my hair, no veil. I ordered it in champagne w/ ivory lace.

It won't let me paste the pic (??) but there is the link.

Things are FINALLY moving!:dance3:

Thank you! The back is what definitely sold me on the dress. Since I will be a few days shy of 37 when we get married, I didn't want anything too cutesy and this seemed to fit all requirements :rotfl2:

I received an email from one of the assistants with a Planning Packet and some information. I'm assuming that this means that Diane_Bowen is our Planner.

Has anyone had her? What should I expect??
