This is not a typical planning journal. As you can clearly see we are a non-traditional couple getting married at Disney World. This blog will also be non traditional in the fact that there will be no wedding dresses or hair (since I have little... neither does Jeff). However, There will be plenty of posts on invitations, rings, cake, floral (love roses), bridesmaids dresses, photography, planning session and everything else that goes along with a wedding. This is where I am going to need all the help from the brides on the board.

Quick Summary of Us
Jeff (DF)is 47, a lawyer and great Dad. I am 37 and a stay at home Dad.
My DF and I have been together for 8 years (who says bar pick ups dont last), have a house, three boys (6,5,4), two dogs and two cats. We really are just your typical everyday family. We are also Foster Parents and just recently had three foster children ( 5, 2, 16 months) in our home (yes I had six boys and they kept me busy). They just recently moved to their "Forever Home", and it was one of the hardest things I had to do ( I knew we were not the perfect forever home, but still miss them). I am so glad for the wedding planning because it helps me wind down from my day. Who knew wedding planning would help someone relax.

The Engagement

After two years of dropping hint after hint after hint I began to think Jeff was NEVER going to ask me. I wanted to get engaged in Walt Disney World since I found out they will do our wedding (Disney calls them commitment ceremonies but since we will be married legally in Vermont and I feel like it is a marriage I will be calling it a wedding throughout). It was a visit in April of 2009, that really sealed the deal. I had not been to Disney in over 15 years and that visit reawakend my passion for all things Disney. I caught the fever so bad that when we got back from that trip Jeff and I purchased our DVC membership (best thing ever). As part of the promotion to entice us to purchase we got bonus points, which we used to visit again in Jan. 2010. Now I had been dropping hints all along about wanting to get engaged at WDW and I was hoping this was going to the trip. On the first night there I even made a wish for a proposal at Snow White's wishing well in the MK. It was not to be. After we purchased our DVC membership my sister decided finally to get hers so she invited me to go on her trip in May ( Jeff stay home while I had a vacation without any kids!!!!) It was a glut of Disney trips and I was in my glory. I kept dropping the hints.... recording Disney Dream weddings, sending the Fairy Tale wedding website and showing him WDW engagements on YouTube(hint, hint). I hoped Jeff was going to come through ( now he is not romantic, but one can hope). I knew he was not going to propose on this trip. It would have meant he would have had to find a sitter for the boys fly down and prepare. That is just not his MO. I could still dream.

Now on top of everything my sister had gotten us dinner in Cinderella castle ( could this finally be it...could my sister be in on it?). It added fuel to the fire. We got to the castle I kept thinking will he do it? No he would never fly down here, but, I did make that wish at Cinderella's wishing well by the castle during our January trip. I even threw in a quarter just to give it some extra oomp. It had to happen this place was magical and Disney couldn't let me down. So we got our picture taken with Cinderalla and head up to get seated (please ,please please by a window... everyone knows that is where you are seated for a proposal) We get seated in the back by the railing, not even close to a window (heart crushed... oh well I knew it was not going to happen). I did bring one son with me so at least we were going to have a good time meeting the princesses. We start to looking at the menu ( and dodging the play sword they had given him) and not even two minutes later to our left (next to the window) a woman is getting proposed to (lucky her, are you kidding me!) I then realized that when I wished for a Disney proposal at the well I forgot to wish for it to be MY proposal LOL. Disney gave me exactly what I had wished for "A Disney Proposal".

I do not know what I had done to anger Tinker Bell but come on throw me some pixie dust. At the rate I was going some dust from the Haunted Mansion would have been something. Jeff and I have been together eight years and three kids and I was wondering why I was still not married? On the way back to the bus I started to text Jeff. I knew it was not going to happen but what more did I have to do? Why could he not have stepped it up once and surprise me? I knew it was my fault for having such high expectations and I had built this up in my head so it was not his fault. So we get on the "Mickey Bus" (that is what the kids call it) and head back to the Saratoga resort ( which looks nothing like Saratoga as we only live 15 mins away) and start sending the texts about the nights event and start joking with him that it was supposed to have happend to me. That is when it happens IN TEXT " I know it is not romantic Marry Me?" I looked at the text shocked (that was not supposed to happen). I showed the text to my sister and looked at her and asked "is he serious?". I wasn't certain how to take it, but it did stop me from texting him (was that his plan ? was he tired of my texting?) I sent no response to his text. We still had a couple of days at Disney left and whenever I called I did not mention the text and niether did he. I figured it was a joke... but I did keep that text. The night we got home from the trip, and the kids went to bed, I pulled out the phone showed him the text and asked are you serious? He told me yes but was afraid to say anything because I did not text him back. I of course told him the answer was YES and that I have been waiting years for that question (who knew it was coming in the form of a text).:rotfl:

My dream came true! I got proposed to at WDW! Who knew it was going to be on a Mickey Bus, somewhere between Cinderella Castle and The Saratoga Resort through a text. It is not how I planned it but somehow it is even better. I truly do believe there is Magic in the Magic Kingdom, however, if you make a wish at Cinderella's wishing well watch out it is tricky. We are now getting married at SBP on May 10, 2011 and I can't wait!

I have done some Disney planning (just a little). I do have a contract coming sometime this week. Pam has been great For the past two weeks I have done nothing but try to figure out STD's. Does anyone know how HARD it is to find gender neutral Disney related STD . I just want a nice Mickey. Don't get me wrong the STD that Disney is sending are nice but the pumpkin coach and cinderella just do not work for us. I have had the card stock, gluegun and glitter out for the past two weeks and still have come up with nothing solid. If I could get the boys to stand still long enough I would have glittered them by now ( I have a major glitter addiction). After I stole my sister cricut from her closet today I spent the rest of the night trying to get a Mickey Icon centered (2hrs). Everything I have done looks so homemade. Let me tell you the Disney Brides on here are good. The stuff rocks. I am amazed at the creativity everyone has. It is putting my stuff to shame. I do have a call into Shelley at Impressions. I am hoping she can pull something out for me. If she doesnt the invitations will have to go out and I will still be working on these darn STD. I would post pictures ( I know they are popular) but I let my 4yr old take pictures with the camera and now there is not auto focus. In hindsight it was probably not the best choice. Oh well at least he was quiet for a couple of minutes and I did get some great pictures of the floor.

Hey!

Have you tried looking on Etsy for some ideas or inexpensive save the dates. They have fabulous sellers that can really help you. I'm the least creative person in the universe, and if it weren't for etsy I would have a tragic wedding.

Good Luck!

After all the cutting, glitter and burns from hot glue I admit defeat. Everything I did looked just so home made (not in a good way). I took your advice and contacted a seller on etsy and Impressions is also working on something for us. We shall see what we get . At least it will not look like my pre-school child made it... keep watching for a decision to be made.

Hi James!

Welcome!

My husband and I are DVC members too - I'm so hooked on DVC it's scary! Like you, I made a similar wish at Disney years ago. Now, I well up when I hear the "when you wish upon a star" song...because it's true. For me, it took a little while but the Disney magic happened when I least expected it. pixiedust:

I'm along for ride on your pj and I look forward to your updates and hearing about your special day!

Take care,

I love your engagement story!!! I was like you had dreamed of getting proposed to in Disney and of course played it up in my head and when it didn't happen that way it was ok!!! It was better because it was individual to us. I love that it was a text message!!

I have been reading several different post the past few weeks and I have noticed a disturbing trend of crafty brides on here. Now I can handle myself around a glueglun, I worship Martha Stewart (cliche... but true) and can glitter almost anything in 10 seconds or less. Wedding crafts are a whole new ball game. Looking at them they seem so simple a little glue, good printer and a lot of imagination and poof instant greatness! Everytime I read a PJ it seems as if they are creating something. The brides stuff on here is amazing... gift bags, bouqets, jewelry... If they can do I can too! :lmao: I mean how easy to save some money on the wedding.

Tonight I tried my hand at Mickey cake pops (trial run) as welcome favors http://www.disneyweddingblog.com/search/label/DIY%20Favors .
They are so cute and perfects and all it takes is some box mix ,frosting ,a lollipop stick, candy melts and voila you have instant Mickey on a stick. EASY. Everything started fine until the dipping in choclate. I started dipping them, held them upside down for the choclate to drip and nothing. Turn that darn head right side up and choclate pours off it in a globs. Fine... we will add vegetable oil and thin... same thing... maybe warm it ... same thing. By this time I have 30 Mickey cake heads waiting for choclate and they have warmed up, the next one I dip falls off the stick into the choclate. Now I go to put them in the fridge and what happens the tray they are on is to big! I go to adjust and half the heads come tumbling off into the fridge and rolli across the kitchen floor. It looks like a bad accident in ToonTown. I have heads here and there, some split in half with sticks piercing through. Half of the heads had only one ear , some with none and there are mickey ears everywhere (candy melts). It was total carnage :rotfl2:

To those crafty Disney brides I tip my gluegun to you. I do not think there will be any DIY projects on this PJ because I am afraid I may have to rip what is left of my remaing hair out. Does not mean I will not stop trying, however, once you factor in all my failed DIY projects it may have ended up being cheaper to have just purchased from Disney to start with.

I am so happy to hear that the Disney magic found you also. I love hearing these stories. You just never know when it is going to happen. I agree it just makes WDW that much better.
We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our DVC membership. We always get a two bedroom and they feel so opulent compared to the traditional rooms. Having DVC is also making room commmitments so much easier. Between mine, sister, and fathers rooms we just need one night to meet the contract ( I am hoping we get at least one more persont to come to our wedding ). I was so relieved when I found out our DVC rooms met the needs of our contract.

I know what you mean about the room requirements. I was thrilled to hear that DVC rooms count towards the contract totals. Whew! I'm hoping that with ours and my brother's DVC ressies, we can fill up a nice amount towards what's needed. My only problem with DVC has been that I always feel like I need more points. We have a small contract and I'm always on the look out for a good resale.

p.s. - I'm envious of those crafty, creative folks on here... I usually ruin my projects and end up with two of my fingers glued together... I'm leaving some of the crafty/design of that stuff up to Disney. It's safer and cheaper for me...lol.

okay, just re-read the instructions for the pops, and I don't think it was your fault at all. Sometimes melting the chocolate in the microwave just doesn't work and it clumps up too soon. Then the more you try to reheat it, the worse it gets :confused3. Try melting the chocolate on the stove-top, in a double boiler or use a small pot with an inch or so of water in it, and a metal bowl. The chocolate should stay melted nice and smooth for as long as you need it this way. ;)

Computer died, died, died this week. It is up and running, but, I think it is being held together only by gum and twine. All the contracts are signed and in. Randy Chapman will be our photographer, STD's will be on the way and I am now waiting for our planner to contact us. It looks like we are now locked into a Disney Wedding. There is no escape now for Jeff!!!!! We have less then a year to get everything done. It is kind of scarey since I know many of the brides have been planning for over year or two. I feel like I am behind the eight ball. I still have to pick out bridesmaid dresses and finalize our colors. We are thinking of Navy, yellow, and silver.... but keep going back and forth. I keep hoping David Tutera will show up on our doorstep and do a gay wedding.

Don't worry about your time frame, things will all come together....

You can never tire of his weddings. Even if you have seen them a thousand times it is like you are still seeing them for the first time. I am not going to worry to much about the time frame. That is one of the reasons we are going to Disney. I am just not an organized person.

Just signing on to say congratulations!!!! :goodvibes I loved your engagement story!! I got engaged in WDW as well (after dropping a zillion hints to my own DF!). We are part of a lucky bunch-it really is an amazing place to get engaged! :lovestruc

We are using Randy Chapman as well. I love your groom Mickey ears! I"m making my DF wear the top hat Mickey ears for a few pictures after the ceremony....he's not too happy about wearing them but hey, it's WDW-you have to wear your ears!!!

What town are you from in New York? My DF grew up in Hudson Falls & he says the same thing about Saratoga Springs Resort!

Anyways, I'm looking forward to reading more about your planning!!

Wow what a day yesterday. Computer died two weeks ago, everything reinstalled and everything was looking good. DF forgot, however, to install some sort of spyware and now I am fighting 30 viruses on this thing. Tried to craft yesterday and stabbed myself with a butter knife and cut through 1/4 of my nail. Please, dont ask why I was doing a craft with a butter knife... bad decision. Last night I also had a dream that we got down to Disney for the wedding and found out we had no money and could not pay for it. I woke up in cold sweats last night. I have a feeling this dream may happen often However :lmao: .On a happier note it looks like we are going the first thing in October for our PS. Our STD's are still a work in progress but coming along . and I am happy enough with one craft that I am going to post a pic of it. Mine you this is only a trial sample. I thought I would look for some feedback though.

I understand the quote "no pain, no gain" and you can justify a hot glue gun accident (remember when you burn your fingers with a hot glue gun..... never put your finger in your mouth.... I am just saying .... not that I have ever done that :goodvibes). I, however, shold never have been using a butter knife for a craft... what was I thinking :confused3

You should sell those boxes, I would be right up front to order them!

Before you try to buy them I need to get the glitter to stay on in a more permanent manner. If a butterfly flaps its wings in the Magic Kingdom half of it will fall off :rotfl: Martha Stewart I am not.

:rotfl: And you said you weren't crafty? The favor box is beautiful!!! They are so amazing.

Would you mind posting instructions as to what you did for it?

Once I can figure out how to get the glitter to stop falling off the boxes, and the ears on more secure,I will gladly post what I did. It was only a mockup to see if it could even be done.

The favor box is GREAT! And you said you aren't crafty. If you wanted to do something different and disney...you could even have your ring bearer carry it down the isle with your rings in it. I think it is that great.

I have three boys under the age of 7 not so certain I will trust them with the rings, but yes that is an adorable and a larger box could even be used with a small pillow in it. See everyone on this board has great ideas I would have never thought of. You are all the best. Oh shoot we still have to get rings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So my partner and I are obviously not your typical couple and we face some different challenges to get married. First of all most states will not allow us to get married. These state include New York (where we live) and Florida. We plan on getting married in VT (only a few minutes away and where it is legal)before we head to Disney. We will be having only immediate family for the VT cremony. Disney is obviously where the Pomp and Circumstance will be,but, this is also only going to be close family and friends because of money restrictions. My father and sister have been asking what our plans were going to be for those we did not invite to Disney. Because Disney is a destination wedding I know alot of the Brides and Grooms on here have had a celebration party when they come home. Jeff and I were discussing it and if we do have a party it would be our third celebration. I like the idea of inviting our extended family to celebrate our commitment to each other, however, is a third celebration too much and does it look like we are just fishing for gifts? Thoughts?????????? Plus OMG do I have it in me to plan one more party? party:

LuluLovesDisney
08-19-2010, 04:42 PM
I think in your situation, people should be more understanding since you NEED to go to specific places to get married. Maybe you could have an informal at home celebration rather than getting dressed up again, etc. I think if it is more like an open house, snacks, look at pictures event, it will be a lot easier. I know I didn't want to go through making new favors, new centerpieces, etc. type of event. It depends on what you want, though.

smileycrissy
08-20-2010, 11:02 PM
I agree with Lulu, do an in-home party/celebration for those unable to attend (if you've got the space). I just think it'll make it easier on yourself. You could easily try to keep it in the Disney theme for the party, so those guests can feel as if they are included in your wedding celebration. I mean who says you can't continue the party at home? :)

Maybe even if you just make one or two extra of whatever little crafts you are making. Like the Mickey box, if you're making let's say 5 for the Disney wedding, it won't hurt to make two extra to keep at home to use to decorate the house. And you know you'll find lots of various stuff at Disney that you can use to decorate the place. I think this may make it a littler easier to plan a 3rd event.

About the in-home reception I agree with the ladies that have replied before me. I think a third party would be sooo much stress, a get-together with snacks to show everybody photos, etc, sounds like a plan.

I went to an awesome engagement party a year ago, it was held in the backyard of the bride, they just strung some lights around for decor/lightning, got a bunch of folding tables with white table cloths and mason jars with flowers from the grocery store, the stereo from inside playing an ipod playlist, a bunch of snacks from Costco, a cake, and use mismatched chairs that they gathered from friends and family to give it a very informal yet incredibly cute garden party look.

We all felt it was just perfect and the bride and groom were sorely tempted to be married in the spot because it turned out so cute with such little hassle.

They also had soda and beer available and a friend that is a bartender had volunteered to put up a bar as a wedding present, so there was an open bar to boot.

It was a blast!

We have our planning session October 1st. Apparently the time we chose coincides with Mickey's Not So Scarey Halloween and Epcot Food and Wine Festival. We are DVC members and just bought 100 extra points at Bay Lake towers so we figured this was the best chance to use them this year. I called and tried booking a studio (kids staying with relatives) at Boardwalk. The cast member told me it was full. I figured no problem and told her to book anywhere but Saratoga (always end up there and wanted something new). She starts searching:

Bay Lake- full
Animal Kingdom-full

Thinking that is ok these are popular

Key West-full
Beach Club-full

I start thinking I am going to have to reschedule appointment

Wilderness Lode- full

I am never going to get in!!!!!

Saratoga....

No studio....but one bedroom available.

Thank goodness, but of course at Saratoga. Of course our flight gets in late so I am pretty certain our room will be at the farthest reaches of the resort. I am just happy we managed to get in. I was afraid we were not going to be able to get tickets for Mickeys not so scarey halloween because it was so hard to get a room. WE DID :cloud9: I guess because we are not going to have any kids this trip I am going to have to consider this our honeymoon :goodvibes

We already have two dogs, two cats, fish, birds and a hermit crab so Jeff was not very happy when I mentioned getting another dalmatian. It tooks months of begging and pleading but he finally gave in (sort of). I was told that the cost of Jasper (puppies name) would have to come out of my floral budget. DONE. My bouncidng baby boy was picked up the very next day :rotfl: Flowers for wedding will only last a day but once the wedding is over I will still have a dalmatian waitng for me. Also, check out Joanne's (tinkerbell 766) thread. She has ideas for cute gift tags if you want to go the disney character route. Or you could use your monogram for the gift tags. I like choosing 3 monograms/logos that are similar in style and with the same colors to tie them all together and use them on different things. i.e. one for a wine bottle tag, one for a gift tag for the bag, another for a water bottle label, etc. Check out this thread post #212 will give you an idea for how to mix and match:

I followed you over from your post on the G&L Board. Thanks for an entertaining read so far. I likely won't post much, but, will enjoy laughing along.

I also think a dalmatian was a better choice than more flowers.

So my partner and I are obviously not your typical couple and we face some different challenges to get married. First of all most states will not allow us to get married. These state include New York (where we live) and Florida. We plan on getting married in VT (only a few minutes away and where it is legal)before we head to Disney.

Does NY recognize you as married once you get married in VT?

I'm asking because there was a case in the NY State Supreme Court that said they need to recognize as legal marriages performed in Canada. I haven't followed these things closely, but, there was a brief tourism surge right afterward. I thought I'd mention it just in case it makes a difference for you.

I have to say that although you may not be a typical couple you sound like an awfully giving couple. We are also foster parents and it's a lot of work and commitment and you really need a strong bond with each other to support each other through the stress.

Enjoy the planning!

Thanks we are having fun with the planning,we shall see as it get closer :goodvibes. Thank you for the information, that was nice of you. New York is bizzare, they kind of recognize marriage, but is nowhere (that I am aware of) to register it. It basically allows me to see my parter in the hospital etc but nothing formal yet. I just find it bizzare that they will allow us to adopt but not marry??? That is ok they will someday. Until then whenever we go to VT we will be married and when we come home we are single again :lmao: (in NY that is ). You don't get that with traditional marriage :lmao:
Bless you for doing foster care. It is one of the hardest things we have done but so glad we can. It is great to see a child who has had a rough start in life find a loving family who will take care of them always. It is hard though to let them go but so the right thing to do. We both love it.

And you! We've only had teens so far and so we've gotten to see how pervasive the trauma can become when a child didn't get that early intervention and loving family. It is so important for there to be people willing to love them and then let them go so that they can have those opportunities. Keep up the good work!

Meeting with Randy would mean he would get a feel for us as a couple before the wedding and would give us a better understanding of what to expect from him. My theory is the pictures will last forever but the food is a here and now kind of thing. Food is easily forgotten (unless you get food poisoning like I did at a cousins wedding... you try to forget that food). The only thing I want to change on the menu is an addition of Mickey waffles ( I love those waffles). Do you think I need to taste brunch food or can I let it go? Let me know what you think.

I'm with Erin...you shouldn't have to choose between the two. If the photographer can only do it at 3:00...as much as Disney is getting paid...your coordinator should be able to find a different time for the tasting.

I agree with jtanddolly and erin...surley Disney can rearrange your tasting? Dont they know that you're the glitter queen?! ;) I have to say though, if they are really going to make you choose...I'd say meet the photographer. You're so right, you'll have these photos forever, the food is just for one day (and I've never had a brunch at Disney that hasnt been amazing!)

Im a UK bride and couldnt fly over for our PS or for a food tasting so Im doing everything over the phone and via email and Im totally ok with that! Im sure our food will be great whether I get to taste it before or not!

By the way, Im totally loving your PJ and cannot wait to read more!! :)

This is sort of kinda related to the wedding. Since we are going to Mickeys Not So Scarey Halloween I thought I would post a picture. I know we all love pictures and I have been limited on them:
http://i758.photobucket.com/albums/xx230/jimmycworld1/Planning%20Journal/downsized_0915000841a.jpg
Since we are flying I decided not to go with any bulky Halloween costumes, but we did want to get into the Halloween mood. I still have one more to make.
Hopefully soon I will have more "wedding" stuff to post. It has been a madhouse this summer. My focus was surviving until fall when the boys would finally go back to school. I "MADE IT!!!!!". Right now the focus is getting the house back in order and lots of :laundy:.

Thank you. I am afraid it is becoming a bit dull. I hope not. My next craft project will probably solve that problem. I just do not want to lose a limb. Thanks so much for the suggestions. For some reason I DID NOT EVEN THINK to change the time. I blame the kids. I swear they take brain cells, whenever the stand next to you, through osmosis. A quick email to Diane resolved the problem and we have now scheduled everything.

Could you coat them with nail polish? (And, if that works on one, can you come up with something similar but faster? I seem to recall something along the lines of watered down white glue creating a clear top coat.)

Thanks about the boxes. I just hope I can find a way to keep the glitter on. Whenever you touch them they rain glitter. Glad they look good in pictures though.

Go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby and ask them what they would recommend...there is bound to be a product that will seal the glitter...I would buy one bottle/can and try it out to ensure that you don't loose the sparkle. It seems like a shallack (spelling?), decoupage...something would be able to seal it so that the glitter doesn't "rain" off without loosing the sparkle. If there is a spray on product...that would be easier than trying to paint something on and loosing a bunch of the glitter in the process.

And you say you aren't crafty...but I think I read that you had one more mask to make for MNSSHP...you are definitely the glitter queen...if you can do that...you can make printables for your wedding!!!

One last thing...I love the last cake...and having hidden mickey's in it would make it perfect.

All I wanted today was a lunch date and some time to talk to DF. It is amazing how much easier it is to carry a conversation without three boys trying anything to get your attention (hollering, throwing a brother, building a swamp in the bathroom etc...). We talked mostly about our trip to Disney coming up in 12 days and working out the details of our planning session. Jeff wants to try to catch up on some sleep and I am going for DISNEY! I have already informed him that I will be in the parks every day and that he is more than welcome to catch up on his sleep. The only day he is required to get up is the day of our planning session.
We also met up today to go look at rings. Now up to this point niether one of us has really discussed what we wanted or had even looked at anything until we went into the jewelry store today. It was a tad akward becuase as you all know we are a gay couple. While we are not ashamed of it we try to keep kind low key. Oh who am I kidding, there is nothing low key about me, Jeff had been sorta, kinda, in the closet with family, friends, and co-workers until he met me (they had been wondering). However, once he started introducing me to everyone his closet door was thrown WIDE open with me throwing glitter everywhere :lmao: There was no more wondering about Jeff anymore.

It is always a bit akward though when you are a gay couple in Upstate New York and you introduce yourself. You are never certain how people will react. We told the guy we were looking for rings and waited for his reaction. There was not even a pause and he started showing us rings. In todays economy there shouldn't be any pause. We started off looking at this new space age stuff that does not scratch or break (betcha if I gave it to my five yr. old he would could). It just didn't look right us. When we started off I though I was going to like the white gold but when we tried them it looked mhhhh. So next we tried a classic yellow gold band and for some reason it just felt right. We put our order right there. Mens rings are not as much fun as womens rings but we did add something special to them. In a few weeks we will have bands and when they come I will have to take a picture. I was so dazed today that I forget to even take a pic to share with everyone. I just thought we were window shopping today and did not plan to order them today. OMG it has just hit me today that we are planning our wedding. It just feels so bizzare and foreign but felt so perfect today.

Regardless of the economy, there shouldn't be any pause. If a store wants your money for a major purchase, they should treat you with respect.:thumbsup2

I know what you mean, though. It was a bit awkward for us, too. Especially when we said "we'd like to look at wedding rings, please" and the standard response was "which one of you is engaged?" We ended up getting ours online.

Congrats on ordering your rings, though! How exciting! And you're planning session is coming up. How fun!

we said "we'd like to look at wedding rings, please" and the standard response was "which one of you is engaged?"

We got a sort of weird, "okay, which of you would like the "woman's ring" and which would like the "man's ring."" It wasn't actually said that way, but, it was clear that they expected one of us to buy a girly looking ring and one to buy a manly looking ring.

We gave up on looking for rings in the stores and just started talking about what we wanted. Once we'd figured out what we wanted we went looking for someone willing to make it -- we also ended up ordering online.

GM -- I'm glad you had a better experience than we did and that you found the right rings so quickly.

I am waiting for Jeff to come home and open it. I do believe it is going to take a couple glasses of wine to deal with it. I have a feeling we are going to cutting, cutting, cutting. I will update tomorrow after we dare to open. I still have to post about our planning session. It will come this week.

Update......... we are at 3,000. We have to see the rest of the budget, but not bad so far.

I have been hoarding soda bottles for the last year. I think it is about time to retun themtoday. I have a huge collection sitting in my garage... barely can walk through it. Jeff has been trying to throw them out because I have not returned them. I know he has slipped some past me, but, anytime I see one he has thrown out, I go into rescue misson and retrieve it from the garbage and store it in the garage. Every nickel helps!

http://i758.photobucket.com/albums/xx230/jimmycworld1/downsized_1018001114.jpg

It looks like there might be a few nickels here. My grand total came to $18.45. Maybe enough for one wedding favor...except I would have to decide on them.

P.S. The mess is in the garage and the rest of my house is much cleaner ( I swear)

It is a cold rainy day today and I figure today is just as good of a day to start writing about the planning session/ honeymoon. You may be asking what is a planning session/honeymoon? A planning session/honeymoon is what happens when you and your future husband get a once in a lifetime chance to be away from thier children for four days in Disney World. When we get married we obviously will have the kids and since no one has offered to take the kids for the rest of the time we are at Disney( hint, hint) we combined our planning session and honeymoon into one. As I said from the start we are a non-traditional couple. We first sarted with the house, then the kids, the marriage. We just don't seem to like to do things in a typical "straight" linear fashion so I figure why break from tradition now.

We left for Disney September 30th and flew out of Albany, on a cold rainy day. Similar to today.

http://i758.photobucket.com/albums/xx230/jimmycworld1/downsized_1021001038.jpg

It was typical running around, dropping of dogs, finish packing, trying to pick up the house... all those last minute things that need to be done before a trip. We arrived at the airport in plenty of time and had a non-eventul fligt (except for some turbulence). The only problem was our flight was an afternoon flight and we arrived in Florida late in the evening.
By the time we located our luggage, Mickeys magical express (which is not clearly marked in Orlando airport) and got to Saratoga Resort it was past eight. At this point in time I was tired, hungry and deaf.Deaf???? Both Jeff and I were just getting over head colds (gifts from the boys) and the pressure from the flight had left both mine and Jeffs ears completly plugged. We were like my father without his hearing aid. We could hear nothing. I looked like a total lunatic trying everything to unplug my ears. A trick that normally works is either yawning or cracking my jaw (nothing worked) So there I am from the airport to the resort moving my lower jaw up and down, side to side... and random yawning. I know I looked deranged.

All of this led up to what was about to happen when we checked in at Saratoga Resort.... more to come later.

Editor Note. As has been established I do not do things in a straight linear fashion I will be adding picture, checking spelling and editing this and future post as we go along.

The more the merrier. We projected our guest list at 30 but Jeff's mother, sister and brother have already Strongly indicated that they will not be joining us for the celebration. On top of that I am insisting on a three tier cake. A two tier to me just looks like a birthday cake and I wanted something with mass. Lets just say we are going to have plenty of cake. Also with the reception I am required to have a minimum and not certain if my guest list is going to meet it, so we are going to have to pay for people to eat who are not there. So my gut tells me I am going to have plenty to go around and probably no sneaking in the background will be required. I know I could have gone with an escape package, but I am to much of a Diva and wanted (needed) choices. So who know maybe we will see you there. Plus wedding crashers could make my TR much more interesting.

Oh such a bummer that his family won't be coming.

I'm marking your date in my calendar so that if I'm still free (currently unemployed but enjoying it), I'll head over to come support you/crash the wedding. See that, I can save you the money of hiring the wedding crashers from Disney. ;)

I'll have to check out the cake - can't resist seeing your Martha Stewart meeting Mickey in vintage garden and glitter all over. :lmao:

I like the idea of the glittery 'Groupie' t-shirts for your guests. That will make for some really awesome photos. :)

I have been saving money for the past couple of months and putting it in a jar on the counter. I decorated it in a wedding theme and had been putting spare change, bottle money, and any extra cash that I had (we all know that is hard to come by). The rule is that once it goes in the wedding jar it does not come out.

My sad empty jar

Now I sorta believe in Karma, but I am starting to doubt. I am the type of person that really will give my friends something of mine if they need it. I gave my friend a car and gave her money for her flight to England to she could meet her online bf/ now husband. Jeff helped out a friend who ended up with a DWI at no charge. Nor did I ask for money from my friend. You never give money to friends and expect it back. If it comes back well all the better. I would never lose a friendship over money. However, today I started to count my jar, because wedding bands are in, to see what we had. My friend had given me money for the car so I put $100 in the jar and the rest in the bank. Guess what was not in the jar... a $100 bill. My house is not open to just anyone. The only people who come over are close family and friends. This means that one of them came into my home and stole from me. I did not spend it and double checked with Jeff and he didn't either (although I did find out there were less 20's because he had raided a couple of times.) I am just sad that someone took from me when we would have given it if we had it. The jar remains on the counter but only change and some small bills (just in case people want to donate) and the rest has to be hidden away. In all honesty Jeff told me not to keep it on the counter, but it made me excited to see the money build up, and I never thought anyone would take from it. I was wrong:sad2:

Hi, I just came across your PJ and I'm addicted! I love your plans so far and I can't wait to see more. I think if you ever decide to give up the DIY projects completely you should take up writing and become an author because I was literally doubled over with laughter while reading your post...and let me just say, for the record, I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing with you?? ;)

I'm very sorry about the missing money. I can't believe someone would do that. Maybe their conscience (or Jiminy Cricket, if he's free from that wooden boy with the abnormally large nose) will get the better of them and they'll confess as well as replace the money that was taken with interest.

Are you absoluely sure that you have not had any workmen or delivery men in the house recently (or has Jeff). I find it so cruel to believe that somebody could steal from an obviously lovely, kind person. It makes me so sad!!

Just a quick update. Today is the 180 day mark. OMG only six more months to go and I have to have this wedding paid for. I am still seeking donations but have not had any takers yet :goodvibes My sister (bless her) is on top of it and got our dinner reservations booked.

Saturday: The kids go to 1900 Park Fare and the Daddies get to go to Jiko (went there for the planning session and had a great time... ask for Mary...she was an amazing server) and the food was great.

Sunday:Breakfast Tusker House, We went as a last minute substitue during the planning session in October and had a great time. It is busy but the food was good (Banana Bread pudding was out of this world) and the service was amazing. (look out for jackquie (sp) she was great) Even though its a character breakfast I am so excited to see Mickey in his safari outfit. We always go to Chef Mickey for character meals but I am starting to get a little bored of the same pictures of Mickey in his Chef outfit with the boys.

Dinner
Le Cellier, one of the most coveted seats to get... cheddar cheese soup here we come.

Monday: Coral Reef. This is the third attempt at going to Coral Reef. The first time we were in a different park and just could not get there. The second time had to give the reservation up because four year old had HUGE,HUGE,HUGE meltdown. As we walked out people who did not have children gave me the LOOK "what is wrong with your child and parenting skills" The people with kids gave me the subtle smile and head nod that said "been there doen that and glad not my kid today". Even though reviews are mixed can't wait. Hopefully Mickey Mouse might swim bycongratulating us, as it is our rehersal dinner.
Who knows maybe the third time will be the charm.

Tuesday: WEDDING DAY. Dinner and dessert are on us. (Will tell you our choices later. It is a surprise)

Wednesday: Liberty Tree Tavern. A Thanksgiving type family style dinner. It just sounds like fun and in the MKI will be off the diet by then. Bring on the food!

Thursday: Via Napoli. Picked by my sister but since she is watching the boys one night and taking them to 1900 Park Fare so we can eat at Jiko she get a pick. Italian food, how do you go wrong.

Friday: The Last Day

Breakfast 1900 Park Fare. We are going back again! The characters are different from dinner so the kids won't be bored plus we are really going for ME. I want to see Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins! What a practically perfect way to end our stay at Disney World!

Dinner
O'Hana, I have noticed alot of Disney Brides doing O'Hans as their rehersal dinner but what a fun last meal. Grilled meat on a spit and family style. What more can you ask for. Lets just skip the Hula and bring on the piles of food.

As I write this post I am like Pavlov's dog. I am salivating just thinking about dinner at WDW. I am also on my Disney wedding diet and I am HUNGRY, but I do not want to look like Rolly Polly Ollie on the day of the wedding.

I think you are going to enjoy Via Napoli. My fiancee and I checked it out back when it first open and I thought the food was great. He felt it was a bit pricey for pizza but overall we had a really good time and enjoyed the food.I do suggest having someone order the iced tea - its got a perfumey/fragrant taste to it. I couldn't nail what it was but if I could describe it in a color I would say pink. LOL.

I am totally 'scaling down' Christmas this year!! My family have all been told to expect much smaller gifts this year as financially the VR is our priority!! Christmas will come along again next year and by then the VR will be over :sad1: so we can go mad on Christmas again then. There has been no activity on the wedding front. I knew I was going to be concentrating on birthdays and Christmas. We did get a few things done in October that I had planned on writing long, detailed, and involved stories about but that is apparently not going to happen. Just wanted everyone to know that I am still here we are still planning our wedding. We got a set of shirts to wear for the week of the wedding. I hear it might get us some free stuff!!!! Not that we aren't spending enough. You would think we wouldn't have to wear shirts :rotfl:

Jeff and I are discussing if we are going to be able to have our wedding this year at Disney World. Reality is setting in and bills, children, Christmas and bathroom renovation are catching up to us and we are not certain Disney is in the budget anymore. We have a little less than half saved and don't know where the rest is coming from. We might have to wait another year or just cancel. We are going to really have to sit down and take a long hard look at it. Will keep you posted.

In the end...the only thing that matters is that the two of you have a special day to celebrate what is important to you. The location and all of the sparkle really don't matter. You can always have a VR later on at Disney if it is important to you. Best of luck in what ever you decide. One of the best things that I have learned from my husband is to make a decision then make it the right decision. Never look back with the if only or what if...just make it the right decision for you.

I echo what everyone else has said. It sounds like you have a very busy life and I applaud you for being a foster family because I realize it's very rewarding but equally difficult. I have a co-worker who is a foster dad and he goes through a lot of heartbreak. We decided our colors are going to be navy, yellow, and silver. I chose the colors and said I was going to stick to them. So far so good. However, over the past couple of months, as I have tried to work with them I have become less and less enchanted with them. Blue and yellow (gold) were the colors of my High School and lets just say being gay in a small town creates a bit of trauma. I also blame my sister,:goodvibes because she mentioned it the first time she saw the colors and she PLANTED the seed. The truth is also I have a passion for pink. I know it is a cliche but I just have a fondness for it and do not shy away. So I have been asking myself why have I been shying away from the pink? Why am I so afraid of it? Anyone who has been invited to the wedding, I think, would be surprised actually at the lack of my favorite color. Today it happened. As I was browsing through an old Martha Stewart Weddings magazine (could I be an even bigger cliche...yes I can) I saw the color combination that I wanted. It is a great use of navy and pink and I am in love, love, love. Now the focus will be primarily the navy but I have no problem adding the pink into shirts, ties, flowers and smaller accents.

I just love the way they look together and I think I can butch it up some, but seriously we are two men getting married if I wanted butch I would be 100% straight:lmao: So here for your opinion are a couple of pictures.

It is a great use of navy and pink and I am in love, love, love. Now the focus will be primarily the navy but I have no problem adding the pink into shirts, ties, flowers and smaller accents.

I just love the way they look together and I think I can butch it up some, but seriously we are two men getting married if I wanted butch I would be 100% straight:lmao: So here for your opinion are a couple of pictures.

thanks both of you. Jeff seems down with the new color scheme so now I just have to contact Diane, Elizabeth and Shelley to see if I have time to change the yellow to pink. I can't imagine there will be a problem. We shall see.

Today starts the Disney diet. Last night I had a piece of carrot cake (my favorite at Disney) because I am going to not to eat a ton of junk until we go. I just need to lose two sizes to get back to a respectable weight for the wedding. I am pushing 40 and know I am never going to be the size I was in my 20's. I need to stop eating the kids junk and exercise. I think I might take the kids for a walk around the block today. Wish me luck.

I'm trying to get back into shape AFTER my wedding and vacation (I put on 10 lbs on vacation and another 5 over the holidays) - I've been keeping a food journal at fitday(dot)com and also drinking lots of tea and water during the day. I feel like every year I eat healthy just so I can go on vacation and throw out all of my progress!! It's worth it though - I love eating whatever I want at Disney....good luck getting in shape!

Oh I'm so happy to see you posting again!!! We've missed you so much on here (well I know I have and I am sure a few of your other groupies have too, LOL).

I love the new color scheme and I have to agree with a previous poster that the pics you selected really do a great job of putting the colors together.

I hear ya about the battle of the bulge. I am extremely determined to loose some of the weight I've put on. During the holidays I had a pretty bad cold that I just had no desire to eat, I ended up loosing 5lbs (woo-hoo!). I think the walks around the block will be a good start. Also, I'm not too sure how many lil ones you have with you during the day, but a friend of mine got rid of her baby weight by putting the baby in the stroller and walking the mall in circles. At least you'll be indoors which would be good for the cold weather. Although I imagine it'll take a lot of strength not to go shopping. :)

Less then four months to the wedding. We are a tad behind and just got the save the dates out (bad me). However, people have known for almost a year. I do have to get started on the invitations this week. To get the celebration started my sister has started a Disney World trivia contest for all those invited to the wedding. She has been sending out questions on Tuesday and Saturday through facebook. It is fun....but I am not doing so well. Apparently the winner will be getting a special prize. How much fun is this!

Signing on waaay late, but we are getting married in May too! I love your navy and pink colour scheme. We are doing green and magenta, but I nearly switched to navy and pink a couple times in the beginning. Those invites look almost exactly like what we are going to be doing, too! We visited a couple places to look at invite suites, but I felt like I could make them for way le$$. I don't have the design of the actual invite panel and enclosures totally down yet, but I'm pretty close! We're ordering the supplies (paper, pocket folder things) from cardsandpockets(dot)com I think. I actually just ordered paper swatches yesterday!

On another note, I didn't realise how close we are to The Day until I saw your wedding ticker! I can't believe we have less than 5 months... I'm going to have to go into crafting hyperdrive! I am planning to make (read sew up messenger bags) for each room and separate backpacks for each child...

You know what makes if feel real is the updated timeline sent by Diane (wedding planner) and it remined me that our minimum deposit is due in February. Now that we have the STDs out, and people are responding, it is pretty set in stone that we are going to have to PAY for the wedding. Until now it was a concept so far in the distance we did not have to really think about it. :rotfl: I think it is time to start thinking about it.

I read on another PJ somewhere here that a bride emailed companies saying she liked their products and wanted to give some out in her welcome bags. She said quite a few of them ended up sending her enough samples that she didn't have to buy them! I've started to do the same (as in, I sent 2 emails last night) on the off chance that I have the same luck. Anyway, I figure there's no harm in asking! Plus, if they do send stuff, it's less to buy!

It was total carnage

7-18-2010

I have had the card stock, gluegun and glitter out for the past two weeks and still have come up with nothing solid. If I could get the boys to stand still long enough I would have glittered them by now ( I have a major glitter addiction). After I stole my sister cricut from her closet today I spent the rest of the night trying to get a Mickey Icon centered (2hrs). Everything I have done looks so homemade

None if I can help it! I think the cake is going to 2 tier and the dessert party I will probably go to the black lawn chairs they have and also get rid of the centerpieces for the DP also. If you look there is a $400.00 dollar charge for the Illuminations viewing and Diane (wedding planner) said as long as guests have park passes (which they do) I will be only charged for those who do not have park tickets. My guest list is getting smaller and smaller and the BEO is priced for 30 guests which I am pretty certain will not be attending. I am actually afraid I am not going to hit the Wishes minimus of 20... going to have to have some people stop by for brunch and cake just to hit it.

Well that's good that you know you'll be knocking the $400 off right away since your guests will have the passes.

Have you thought about using an outside vendor for the florist? It doesn't hurt to get a few quotes. :)

we did think about an outside vendor. However, I am not organized enough to arrange flowers on my own. I would have them on the wrong date, or color and even the wrong flower. Having Disney do them I know at least I will have flowers. We don't need that many of them so we are willing to pay the little extra cost to make sure we actually get flowers.

Oh my goodness...it is getting close. It hit home yesterday when I made the reservations to board the dogs. I only had to flip two pages on the calendar to see the dates :eek::scared1:

My sister is correct. I need to get some things done on the wedding. For two days I have been looking at toasting glasses on etsy and I have not purchased them. I think it is because I have been hoarding money for so long that I just can't spend it. I want them but I just keep putting them into the shopping cart and then I don't pay. LOL. I have not even purchased anything for the welcome bags. I just can't seem to get past this block about spending money. You know what must have frozen over because I LOVE spending money.:love::love: I know I am going to be doing everything last minute and stressed because I waited. Keep reading for the future meltdowns LOL.

Oh James, buy the glasses. Do it, do it, do it!!

Maybe if you post a pic of the glasses so we can all 'ooh and ahh' over them, you'll be convinced enough to purchase them. :)

good luck 'oohing and ahhing' over them. This is the best picture I can get. I will take a picture when they come in. If you squint and look at the center of the glass you just migh see a teenie tiny itty bitty mickey. I did purchase them today and I got my groom gift for Jeff also.
