If you're ever on vacation and find you need roadside assistance from AAA.....and you're calling from a cell phone......

Be aware that when you call the 800# for AAA you will be directed to the office that offers assistance for the area-code on your cell phone. You have to be sure to tell them you're on vacation and the state you're calling from right away and you'll be connected with the local AAA office.

We were recently in NJ but called using a cell phone from RI.....the operator had no idea where I was talking about when I gave the address and finally we both figured out what had happened!

Had to laugh when I read this--we found this out one memorable (?) day when we had not one but two calls to AAA, from two different states! Number one was for the dead battery that resulted overnight from my daughter not turning off her "reading light" (North Carolina) and the second was for the flat tire that resulted from the glass left sitting in a parking space (South Carolina). Quite a way to start a vacation--fortunately it improved from that point.

Our dead battery was due to a door not being closed tightly and the dome light on all night......and it was discovered when we dragged our kids out of bed the next morning - EARLY - to go bike riding.

We were really lucky because Sears was celebrating the anniversary of their Die-Hard batteries....so we got to add a Die-Hard battery cooler to the list of souveniers we brought home from vacation!
