Welcome to the Wonderful Panama Canal Crossing thread!
PreCruise California Meet
Ok..decision made..October 24th it is! And actually..the picnic area sounds like a great idea so that no one feels they can't join us. We will meet there at 1:30PM on Sunday, October 24th!
Looking forward to meeting everyone! DISNEYLAND PICNIC AREA - 1:30 PM - Sunday, October 24th
Our Cruise Website. http://www.wonderpanama2011.com/
To have your information added to the cruise website, please pm TigFanJeff
Jeff is ready for the FE information from people who have stateroom numbers. PLEASE read Jeff's post below before pm-ing him.
If you are still going, please confirm that the information on the website (including dining, names, stateroom(s) and picture) is actually you.
If you are planning in participating in FE, please reply with that in the PM as well.
If you have more than 1 stateroom, please let me know which staterooms are participating in FE and which are not.
I already have at least 2 staterooms claimed by multiple people, so if I do not hear back from a group by 10/15/2010 they will be removed from the list.
GTY people shouldn't worry about FE. I will be updating the list right up through Castaway Cay (Please don't deliver FE gifts before the first sea day). I still though do need to know if you are participating so people have an accurate count.
Excursion Planning Spreadsheet ... I built a quick-reference spreadsheet for excursion planning. . . . Each title is actually a link to the detailed description on the DCL web site (click the cell, and then click "Go to link"). Happy planning!

Non Disney Excursion suggestions
ARUBA:
LindaBabeOne of my room mates, who has been to Aruba before, recommends the Banana Bus tour http://www.bananabusaruba.com/ Please note they offer two tours - night time bar hopping and day time sightseeing. WE ARE LOOKING AT THE DAYTIME SIGHTSEEING TOUR!!!!
The website says they tour Tuesday through Saturday and we'll be in Aruba on Monday. I emailed with them and they say if enough people sign up for a tour on Monday, they will run one. Apparently it is not necessary to pay to sign up - they didn't ask for my CC#. If anyone is interested in this non-Disney excursion option, please visit the Banana Bus website and sign up. In the comment section put "Disboard group" It includes a visit to "baby beach". No one has signed up except my three as if 9/27. If you're interested in this tour, please pm me! There's no sense in signing up for it if we can't get 15 people. Please PM if you are interested!
We have only 6 people interested as of 10/11. Since the general booking date is fast approaching, If we don't reach 15 people by the end of the week (10/15), I will pull this excursion on Friday. That way people will still have the opportunity to sign up for the Disney sponsored excursion, if they wish
PUERTE VALLARTA

Tinksmom is organizing a "bracelet" group purchase. If you wish to have a bracelet for the members of your party, please pm Tinksmom. This was previously a FEgift group but has turned into a "FOR PURCHASE" group by popular request. Remember - if you want a bracelet, you will now have to purchase your own! DEADLINE TO ORDER OCTOBER 22Update on bracelets:
I found a company with resonable prices, $1.50 a piece. I can order adult and youth (don't have deminsions). They will be green with "From WDW to DL with Love" on the front and "January 2011" on the back, with the Mickey silhouette. I will be mailing them out early November, so everyone should have them to wear at WDW and the port. The price includes the bracelet and US postage. If you live abroad, please add an extra $1. You can either send me a check or deposit the money in my Paypal account.
To order, please PM or email (tinkerbellesmom@sbcglobal.net). Include your name and mailing address and how many adult/youth bracelets you want. DEADLINE TO ORDER OCTOBER 22

KayR is volunteering to coordinating a group purchase of PC crossing certificates. Panama Canal Certificates
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Panama Canal Certificates
"The Order of the Ditch"
I am co-ordinating a group buy for the personalized PC Crossing Certificates.
You can see them here http://www.tiffanypublishing.com/certs/order_ditch.asp
It will be the revised version as some of us will be ordering them for our kids.
The cost depends on the number we as a group want. I ran some scenarios and, as a rough estimate, an order of 20 certificates would give an individual cost of a little over $8 each. If we order over 50 certificates, the cost drops under $7. This includes personalization (including the name of the captain if we can get it confirmed in time), postage, any minimum order charges (for 10-50 certificates) and to cover the paypal fees. (I figured the easiest way for people to pay was by paypal and we get charged on every incoming transaction).
Money is not needed yet. Once we have the order in, they will give an accurate cost and I can then work out the exact cost each for everyone and send you the details on how to pay.
We cannot get the captain's signature to print on the certificates, but DCL suggested that we could have them signed during the Captain's signing time which happens sometime during the voyage. Alternatively we could see if we could drop them off at guest services they could get them signed sometime during the voyage (kinda like we do with the pillowcases etc).
I plan to have them sent to me and then I would bring them to the ship to distribute.
If you want to order a certificate please fill enter your details here:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dDZZMU54S21mT1NQX3VNSUY5YmYyamc6MQ#gid=0ht tps://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dDZZMU54S21mT1NQX3VNSUY5YmYyamc6MQ#gid=0
Deadline: I don't know yet, I need to talk to the supplier and will confirm.
I think that is it. Any questions?
POST CArd EXCHANGE
POST CARD EXCHANGE
A chance to participate in an exchange of postcards during your voyage.
The idea is that people buy postcards of their area/country/town/city etc and deliver a postcard to each person on the list. They don't need to be written on or anything but I'm sure people would like to have something on there to let them know who it was from. If people do want to write a little note on theirs about their country or town then that’s OK too. Some people elect to make their own postcard using photos they have taken. Others printed local recipes on a card. It is great fun to come back to your cabin and find mail.
You don't have to be in the Fish Extender Exchange to join in - but please let me know if you don't have an FE as then I can make a note on the list so people know not to expect one and can place the cards directly in the Fish Holder (they are built to hold letters etc anyway).
If anyone would like to take part that isn't on the list let me know.
Valbob89
Val
Val is also organizing an excursion of a different sort ROOM TOUR
Are any of you interested in organizing a room tour? How it works: Cruisers volunteer to let others visit their cabin and see what the different categories are like. One person organizes the event to make sure we don’t have duplicate categories. So, on a sea day, at an established time, (final time set after other event times are published) starting on the lowest deck, we visit the different category of cabins. It is great fun to parade down the halls meeting each other and getting a real look at those rooms we all take only a quick peak into as we pass an open door. Additionally, it allows us to share cabin living ideas such as use of an over-the-door shoe storage hanger to put all the “stuff” that ends up set everywhere; or printing a few 4x6x pictures each night at Shutters and decorating one wall as the cruise progresses. If enough people are interested, I will try to organize the event. Let me know what you all think. ValBob89
Contact ValBob89 for this one, too. Calling All Champagne Girls and Champagne Girls Wanna-be's
Many of you have expressed interest in a Champagne Girls gala. Two ideas have been suggested; 1) An organized private champagne tasting (DCL instruction and cost), complete with pink boas and tiaras, or 2) BYOB (champagne, alcoholic or non, or beverage of your choice) hen session, complete with pink boas and tiaras. Of course we will have to have the occasion captured on film. I propose we vote on which we would prefer, 1, 2 or both. Let me know your vote by next Friday. Then I will get in touch with DCL and see what can be arranged.
ValBob89
JenKatt & TigFanJeff] are organizing a wine / meet & greet Right now I'm looking at the first sea day, probably around 2pm, in Diversions or Cadillac.
Here's where I'm stuck. Doing a trayed party for 40 people is a little bit out of my reach, even if I charge a nominal fee per person. Keeping things as transparent as possible, for 2 hours, we'd basically be looking at over $1000 before corkage fees even came into play.
Can we finagle the space for 2 hours for a flat rate, have a table set up with 40-50 wine glasses, an empty table for us to place our bottles on as well as handling self opening and pouring (I'll handle bar duties if needed ) and ordering 2 fruit and 2 cheese platters for the event. (The platters apparently feed about 12-15 people). If I can work it out to handle that for about $500, I think that ends up being reasonable for people to throw some donations in to help offset my cost.
If you're interested in this event, pm JenKatt or TigFanJeff with Wine M&G in the subject line.
SECRET MICKEY The secret Mickey is now closed to new sign ups. Secret Mickeys have been assigned. Happy Planning! Update below dated 9/15/2010

T-Shirt Link http://www.zazzle.com/monorailpilot Making a Shirt
To make your own shirt, take the link to zazzle that is posted on Pg 168 (?) of the thread.
Once there, you will notice just below the main model picture a little orange rectangle that says "CUSTOMIZE IT"--Click that.
Look off to the right and you will see a link to "2. CHOOSE STYLE AND COLOR"--Click on "SEE ALL" and it will take you to all of the shirt styles you can choose.
Once you have chosen your shirt style, you can begin to adjust the size of the image.
Begin with the back image (which should already be there) and adjust or keep as is. Then, you will notice below the main (or larger) model picture, there are smaller images of the model at different angles. Click on the image of the model's front.
Look over to the right again and click on "1. CUSTOMIZE IT" Click on "ADD IMAGE" and then search your computer for the image you would like to add (if it is the Mickey one, I attached the pic here--assuming it works. If it doesn't, let me know and I will send it to your email).
Once you have the image on the front, look off to the right again and look for the arrows. Click on the arrows to adjust the location of the photo.
When you have the photo in the correct place, you can adjust the size by clicking it. If you click on the image you will get a box around it that allows you to adjust the size.
When you do that, you will lose the full size picture of the model, so if you want to see that again, look above the big picture of the model and click on the tab "MODEL" (I tell you this only because it took me FOREVER to figure out).
That's it...from there you would order like normal.
Good Luck!
~Melissa
http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/y...k/Picture3.png
For those of you that haven't ordered yet...if your order total is over $50 you can use PRESSPAUSE11 for 10% off. I was able to use it with the free shipping code and with my gift certificate code from groupon. :cool1: Linda's note: This code was good 9/26/10. Please let me know if you try to use it and it fails, so I can take this instruction off this page.
NAME TAGS OK---I am willing to print---on cardstock---our logo and your Disboards name and real name to wear on your DCL-provided lanyard. Does this sound like a good idea? If so, please PM me your details and I'll figure out how to get them to you---perhaps at our on-board Dis-meet?
If you'd like a Dis Nametag pm Susan or Tom (Cardidog)
PROGRAMS DCLTraveler is creating a DIS program of events so you'll always know where to find playmates:laughing: I'm checking in to let you know that I have the general template created for the "program." I wanted to run some thoughts by all of you and also get some ideas to create the most useful document for everyone!
Here are my thoughts:
-Include the list of "who is going," "where we are from" and "where we are staying"
-Include a 20-24 hr daily schedule documenting everything "we" have planned as well as space for everyone to write in what they want to do for the day.
-Include a tutor schedule that only has each of us (who volunteer to tutor a topic) tutoring for one hour during the entire trip.
My Questions:
1. What do you think so far?
2. What else do you think we need?
3. There are a lot of runners, should we schedule a meeting time each day on deck 4 for those who want to run together?
4. I have all of the activities from the website, but are there others you want to do?
5. I remember reading something about a "tag" game with a Mickey Mouse Magnet "tagged" on peoples' doors--should we do that? If so, how does it work?
Feel free to answer any or all of ?'s 1-5...any help is most appreciated!

New thread, new topic really quick.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DISNEYLAND!!!!!!!!
Just popped in to see what was going on and you have closed the last thread. You have been chatting away:lmao:
We are in London on part one of our tour back to old blighty to see family and show the kids the country that their family is from.
Carmie, I think everyone has given you wonderful suggestions for San Francisco. Got to add I loved the Disney Family museum. There is also a Lucas Film thing on the Presidio (same area as the Disney Family Museum) if you like Star Wars.
The Academy of sciences in Golden Gate park is a great visit. I call it the Teletubby building because of its living roof which resembles the teletubby home (you can tell I have kids can't you).
Monterey Bay Aquarium a couple of hours south is fantastic, as is a drive around pebble beach on 17 mile drive.
One other suggestion and for me, if you have time, it is a must do. Drive over to Yosemite for a couple of days. Our first trip there the word "awesome" didn't do it justice. We still find it stunning, in sun, in mist and in snow. Something different every season.
I'll try and keep up reading this thread, but no promises until I get back home.

Hi Kay. Sorry the weather isn't too good. We did have a heat wave for quite a few weeks, but it seems to have disappeared somewhere. In fact we are close to popping on the heating.:confused3 Still it is great seeing the sites and people here anyway. Have a great time.

Finally — someone else who saw "Teletubby" when she looked at the Academy of Sciences building! I watched my first episode of Teletubbies when in London back in the mid-90s and couldn't believe what I was seeing. LOL!
Have a wonderful time! London is one of my fave cities and just returned three weeks ago from a week-long visit.

If this wasn't a movie critic, then I think thus person thinks because it is not a Disney or a Pixar movie it can't be good. They could not be more wrong. It is a good, funny, entreating movie. Check it out in 3-D if you can.

Wow, so much to do in the City and surrounding areas, where does one begin?? To add to what has already been mentioned, on the Golden Gate side of The City you can also take the Cable Car from Fishermans Wharf. to Lombard St (crooked st). I personally LOVE the exploritorium and the Palace of fine Arts (thats the dome thing they have at DCA). Walking across the Golden Gate is fun as is the Presidio. From over there, you can head to Napa (about an hour drive) or if you like car races, you can see if Sears Point is open (about halfway between Napa and SF), or you can go to Stinson Beach and Muir woods. On the East side of SF, there is Treasure Island (not much to do, but beautiful views). Santa Cruz is also about 1.5 hours away. Personally, for the tourist experience, and since you are already going to Alcatraz, you should take the Cable Car to Fishermans Wharf/Pier 39 in the mornoning, walk around there, get clam chowder on a sourdough bread bowl (I don't care what anyone says, there is nothing like SF sourdough) and go to Alcatraz. Then, whenyou return from Alcatraz, walk over to Ghirardelli chocolate factory and get an ice cream. Then, catch the Cable Car from there and hit Lombard on your way back to the hotel. That will get you quite a bit of the touristy things in one day and then you can do random things on day two. A couple of pieces of advice: read the parking signs carefully-SF has Nazi meter maids! Don't worry about style-dress for comfort! Especially the shoes as the streets can be VERY steep! Dress in layers! My sister an I always joke that you can tell the tourist because they are the ones in shorts with SF sweatshirts (they get cold and are forced to buy the SS to keep warm). HAVE FUN!
P.S. if you decide to go to Napa, let me know...I know people @ some of the wineries so could probably get you in for free=0)

Lots of great ideas. THANKS!!!
Just remember for Alcatraz and the Disney Museum to buy your tickets ahead of time. We once went to take the Alcatraz tour and the whole day was sold out. Also understand that only a certain amount of people are admitted to the Disney Museum each hour so it's best to have advance tickets.
Thanks for this tip. I would be really disappointed if we missed these things because I didn't plan ahead!
-Kay
DH would so love to go to Yosemite! However, doesn't look like we're going to have time for it :(
Thanks again to everyone on all the wonderful things to do in San Francisco. I didn't realize I was going to have so much fun!!!!
Hi Kay. Sorry the weather isn't too good. We did have a heat wave for quite a few weeks, but it seems to have disappeared somewhere. In fact we are close to popping on the heating.:confused3 Still it is great seeing the sites and people here anyway. Have a great time.
I am actually enjoying the weather in London. Its not cold, in fact its very pleasant, if a bit windy sometimes. Having just left temperatures which were in the low 90s (read over 32C for those who work in celsius) its nice to be able to walk all day without having to shelter from the sun/heat.
Shirley
Thanks, we are having a great time. But you must have left it in a bit of a mess as they are having to do all these repairs now. LOL! Only kidding! (for those that don't know - London is covered in cranes and building work in preparation for the 2012 olympics. It seems that most of the historic buildings are undergoing some sort of renovations.)
Wow, getting FE gifts already? We're still debating what to do - something similar to last time (if you remember what we gave) or something totally different. I fugure we'll wait another couple months, until we have a better idea how many cabins are participating.
Now it's time to get back to MIL's. FIL passed away early Monday morning so we've been spending most free time over there.
Sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts are with you at this time. :grouphug:

The family saw The Sorcerer's Apprentice this morning -- we really liked it, especially the nods to Mickey's Fantasia Apprentice, The Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars Episode IV, and a great car chase scene through NYC. When you go see it (or if they show it on the Wonder) wait through the final credits, it's a great:goodvibes twist!
For movie buffs -- previews for Secretariat were enticing!!

Can't believe we are on thread 3 already. At this rate we'll be close to closing thread 4 by the time the cruise gets here, especially considering the volume of posting that I'm sure will occur as we get closer.
We had a great week at OKW last week. My family came down and we all stayed in a Grand Villa. It was very nice, a couple small issues, but nothing huge. Now that we have finished that vacation, it is time to move into full planning for the cruise. Submitted our applications for passports on Monday just before the cutoff for the $35 price increase.

Starting Monday, July 19th, Jet Blue will extend their schedule through February 28, 2011.
Currently they are only selling through January 4, 2011, and I know there are many of us who are anxiously awaiting these added dates!
I'm eagerly awaiting Virgin America's SF to Orlando service - that theoretically should be available by then. Since Southwest fares for when we want to travel are already absurd, we figure there's no harm in waiting - even if Virgin America delays the route even more, there's at least a chance we'll see a sale between now and say, September. :sad2:

Toy Story 3 was ment for 3-D. They had it in mind when making the movie. Well we had a great day at Dosneyland. After our day in the parks I went to a Midnight showing of Inception. Man this move is not only really good but a total mind trip. I really liked it. It just maybe the best movie that was not animated I have seen all year.

Well its funny you should say that because.....
I went on the odeon web site and its £9.90 plus a booking fee each:scared1: am I getting old or miserable( yes,I know..both) but thats a bit steep, Now I know why I never go to the cinema much! I was really going to see it to get me excited about the cruise (as if I need that) but now I think about it, its the kids holidays and it might be a bit, what can I say...frustrating.
I am with you Marilyn, I will see it on the Magic.

Well, there are kid's on the ship, so it might me a tad, what can I say.....frustrating, there too!!!!! However, if we go later at night or perhaps on a port day it might be better.
My experience onboard was that it was the parents who were annoying. I don't know why, though it is often the same at WDW in the 3d shows. They seemed to think they had to explain everything to the children, or laugh the loudest, or make silly comments. I just can't understand that at all. Children being a bit itchy bum or whatever, or asking funny questions etc 'can' be funny, but not the adults.

Trust me, the kids on the disney ship are not like the kids you get in the cinema beside me, last time they were throwing popcorn at everyone, spraying coke, had feet on the back of chair, I turned around and there shoe had almost pinned me by the hair to the chair, you know I have late dinner always and I can honestly say the kids were so good at dinner times, actually at most times they were good.

I so agree about UK cinemas. I miss the days of having a cinema attendant, or whatever they were called who stood at the back during the films and dealt with troublemakers. Anyone making a noise got the torch light shone on them. Mind you they would probably get beaten up these days if they challenged anyone!:sad2: (I didn't mention late dinners at all though did I??)

Good morning, Happy Cruisers!
RRBB, sorry to hear about your fil. You have our sympathy.
There was a 'rip-snorter' of a thunderstorm here last night - the lightening was practically continuous. We were without power for a couple hours right at bedtime. Came on later and woke us both from a fitful sleep - and it was STILL thundering. This morning, all is calm, but very wet and humid - another Florida Morning in New York.
FE gifts. . . hmm. I really must think about that. I don't think I'll make anything hand made this time - too many projects on the plate for fall. . . but I could sure use some ideas.
Happy Day, all!

Fares for when we want to travel are also already absurd...and when you look at the seating charts, only a handful of seats are sold. So I am also hoping prices will drop...I am checking on a daily basis.
One day I saw a great rate back from L.A., and was stupid not to book it right away. I waited to talk to DH and DG (grandpa) because it was not non-stop, and would require one connection. By the time I went back, the fare had jumped $400! Oh well...I can only hope it comes back down.

Quick note to say I finally got the site updated (List and Link to new thread). I'll get the map updated later today. If you aren't on the list, I missed your PM or e-mail so please resend. If I missed a pic, please resend.
I'm still working on the zazzle image as I need to get the one we have resized which is taking some work to make it clean. I've also modified it a little with the creator's permission and approval to make it work a bit better on the shirt. I'm hoping this week.
For those who don't know, I umpire little league baseball and with tournament time, the last month has been insane. I have managed to be umpiring something like 25 of the last 30 days and managed to not have Jen kill me for it. :) The good news is, it all stops very soon :)

I am in the process of making my FE. I had one but it was Magic specific so I decided to make a new one. Thing is, I am hand sewing it! Might take me a while!
As far as Disneyland, doesn't look like we are going to make it since DH has to return to work. There is a slight possibility that DD and I will stay for a few days but most likely we'll all return home together. I do really want to go but would rather wait until DS and DH can go too.

We have our FE from the 2005 PC cruise (the original FE). But I think we'll either buy a new one or make a new one since I don't want anything to happen to that one.
And we're also going to DL afterwards. Trying to see if they'll let Jeff drive the DL Monorail like they have in the past.

I made my own and have used it for 2 cruises already, this will be the third. I hand sewed it, which was painstaking and long, but worth it because it added to my excitement into the cruise, and I liked that i did it myself. I also used felt stick on letters for the names so i can change them depending on who accompanies me on which cruise. We are going to DL after the cruise, waiting for the rates for Paradise Pier to come out to decide if we are doing 2 or 3 nights.

Yea, I knew that I wanted to get repeat use out of mine after all that hard work, but I knew that I would be traveling with different family members of friends each time. But, I also wanted personalization just because it looks nice and also deters theft- so these felt letter stickers are the best. They are removable enough to take off and switch out, but also since they are fabric, they look "sewed on" and serve as the deterent to theft too. Got them pretty cheap at my local AC Moore if anyone else is interested in the idea.

Thank you everyone. It's been a long, trying week. But I hope now we can start to get life back to normal, at least for the kids. Since DH works in a family business with parents and brothers, I imagine it will take a while longer to settle things out there.

I'll try to get a new picture this weekend and get it to TigfanJeff when we get home. We're heading to Michigan this weekend for a nieces wedding then out to CT to return DD#2 home and visit there for a few day. Linda- Hope to see you on the trip-

some of the pix open as fullsize when you click them, some open as itty bitty icons that you have to click on again then drag open with the "mouse" to make bigger. wonder why that is (i ask b/c yours posted that way, mom). great to put some faces to the names though, as i see several new pix have appeared. thanks tigfan!

Am I correct in thinking that Southwest is the best to fly on if we have 2 bags each? We need to get back from LA , or possibly Phoenix to Orlando after the cruise, hence all the bags!!! Phoenix is non stop, and we could go there via San Diego and Tucson and spend a few days at each place.

JB does fly out of BWI...but not to Orlando (or anywhere in FL). They do fly to BWI-LAX, so you could use JB for your return leg.

THAT sounds like a really good plan. I LOVE Tucson and San Diego. Phoenix, not so much, but Santa Fe is nice. I also love SWA! Can't go wrong with them.

Jet Blue does not fly to Orlando from BWI right now but they have flights from both Dulles and Reagan National.
I am about 20 minutes from Dulles. Southwest ends all nonstop flights between Dulles and Orlando next month. All their Dulles-Orlando flights will then be routed through Chicago. I have no need to go to Chicago to get to Orlando. If SW still had nonstop flights I would have booked my outgoing with them long ago instead of waiting around for JetBlue.
If I chose SWA out of Baltimore it would have taken me several hours to get to BWI via public transportation. I have a car but I am not going to park it at an airport for three weeks.
I'm not looking for a return flight, that will be a reward flight on SWA out of SNA (Orange County) which will be booked as soon as SWA opens up booking for January 24.

Yes, we want to go to Santa Fe. I looked at the weather for February, and it is a little cool, hence our reason for going back to Orlando. We will just have to get there some other time. We are staying in the US for up to 8 weeks, so will want the chance of warmer weather in Orlando. Unfortunately for Tucson it is peak time and everything is very expensive or we might have stayed there for longer! Orlando can be so reasonable really. I think we should get 4 weeks in Orlando.

With 4 weeks in Orlando, do you stay on property or rent a villa or house? I am so tempted to go back to Florida.

If we had any DVC points left then we would use some of those at first, but we will be renting a pool home and trying for a good rate. Well this last February we managed it and it was great having a pool to ourselves. For us we are saving on heating and electricity at home during the winter, so every little helps, and it makes use of one airfare. Apart from the cruise we live very cheaply too, not eating out etc. I think you have to look at it in a different way when you stay for longer - more like living there. Once we have done the parks we just relax and swim and generally do nothing!!! Our last 3 trips over have been for 6 weeks, some cruising weeks, some DVC, some in poor rental homes. Our annual travel insurance limits us to 8 weeks for any one trip otherwise we might have stayed longer. We can only do 90 days anyway on the Via Waiver, or 6 months if we go the the bother of getting a normal visa, but no need for that.:lmao:

Geezer here, too, but I don't save anything at home when I'm away because DH is home needing heat, lights and cable. I agree about looking at it differently - I spent 2 weeks off property in a townhome last year - never went near Disney but it was still wonderful! I volunteer at Give Kids the World, hang out at the pool, cook, eat, work puzzles, scrapbook, etc. The time passed Awfully quickly  I recommend the World Market in Lakeland for fresh fruit and veggies - it's pretty popular with snowbirds. I'd like to go for about 3 months. In my dreams.

That was what we were supposed to be doing, but because I had acute pancreatitis last December I was having problem getting travel insurance cover. I was so excited for it all to be covered(at a bit of extra cost), and the fact that the annual policy actually covered 60 days rather than the 45 we had before, I never even thought about it not being 90 days!!!:lmao::lmao: I think we will have to go to individual trip insurance to be able to go for 3 months, and that can cost the same as an annual policy.
Thanks for the market recommendation. We always mean to get out and about and I have a list of places, but the longer we are there the lazier we become!! Lakeland is a place I want to visit, Bok Tower, Winter Gardens (or is it Park, or both?). This trip we were meant to stay over on the West side, but because of the time of year we decided to cut it short and go back to Orlando. However we were there for 6 weeks this last Feb/March and it was COLD the WHOLE time. I know nothing is guaranteed at that time of year, but come on? The locals were very fed up I can tell you! ;) A record winter. :sad2: The hottest time was when we were travelling back to the airport - got in a sweat getting the luggage from the villa to the car!:rotfl2:
This last trip many of the homes/condos I looked at were already taken by snowbirds, you could tell as 3 or more months were blocked out on the availability calendars.

Don't miss visiting Winter Park. Make sure you take the scenic boat tour. It is located at the end of E Morse Blvd. on Lake Osceola. The tour guides are great, very knowledgeable about Winter Park. The Morse Museum Tiffany exhibit is fantastic, make sure you look up at the stained glass window in the entrance hall. Walk along Park Avenue, there are great shops and lots of sidewalk restaurants to choose from. If you are there on Saturday go to the farmers market. The fine art museum on Rollins College campus is also worth your time to visit. So much to do and see in Winter Park, but you won't find anything Disney, it is worlds away and very laid back and relaxing. I hope you put it on your to do list. I promise you will be very glad you spent time in Winter Park.

You are welcome. Another little tidbit about Winter Park is its dog friendly environment. All the shops have water bowls and sometimes treat bowls right outside their shops and dogs can sit with you at the sidewalk restaurants. Can be kind of a shock the first time you see a little dog sitting in its own chair at the table. Not to worry though, WP has leash laws and we have never ever seen a misbehaving pup. I added no Disney because on these boards you never know who will only do Disney related things and I didn't want anyone to go Winter Park and expect it to be like Orlando or Kissimmee.

Thanks again. I do know what you mean about people only doing Disney related things. I think they miss out a little, but we all have choices and likes and dislikes I guess. We didn't get 'into' Disney and WDW etc until about 10 years ago, so have been all over.

So DH and I are going to the mouse in September to celebrate anniversary and birhday; we've got most ADRs (free dining yeah) but wanted input for those who have eaten at Beaches. We always try something new. Any other places I should try besides: Califoria Grille and Cellier. We are eating in Norway and at Boma. We particularly want to try places other than the parks to eat.
Leaving on a jet plane tomorrow to Big Island. Hate having to pay for my bags. We are loyal SW travelers but hence, they do not fly to the islands yet. DH told me one large bag and my carry on. Guess I can survive. Its only for a week; so excited because my son is proposing to his sweetheart over there. She is a nanny and had to go work in Hawaii for 5 weeks. I am thrilled, having raised four sons and now I get a daughter for real.

How exciting about your son, time to buy a hat!!!
As far as eating at WDW goes, we really like lunch at Le Chefs de France. We have eaten dinner at the Wave at the contemporary and really enjoy it there, though of course you are eating at the Cali Grill there, but perhaps another time.
Our best two meals last time were the Captains Grille at the Yacht Club, and lunch at Tusker House in AK. We have also eaten breakfast there too and it is lovely. Others say dinner is excellent too.
I hear great things about Flying Fish, but we haven't managed to get there yet.
Don't forget, for a Counter service(or Quick service which ever they call it) one of the best places is Wolfgang Puck Express at the Marketplace in Downtown Disney. Massive portions of excellent food.

What a wonderful story. I hope your son and future daughter-in-law have a long and happy life together!
We love Beaches and Cream, it's one of our favorites. Servings are large and they don't mind sharing, especially since it saves room for their delicions ice cream concotions. We haven't eaten many meals outside the parks. Along with Beaches, we love Kona for a relaxed sit-down meal. You can almost always get in with same-day reservations. We also like Turf Club at SSR. For counter service our favorite is Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney.
Hope this helps!

It is not likely at this time that you will be able to get September reservations for Le Cellier (or for California Grill anywhere near fireworks time) if you do not have them already.
Beaches & Cream is relatively boring except for the desserts.

There are actually several reports on the restaurant board that Beaches & Cream does not allow guests on the dining plan to share entrees, so ask before you go there with a view to sharing an entree on the dining plan. It doesn't take reservations so you can ask before you put yourself in for a seat.

Thanks for the loyalty. First off I will say congradulations to your son. I hope he surprises her good. Second please don't hold your breath waiting for us to fly to Hawai'I. Our planes are not allowed to fly more than 160 miles from the coast line because we do not have life rafts, we only have life vests. As far as food goes, I like Olivias at OKW and Shutters at CRB. Also I am a Fan of Whispering Canyon at WL. At DTD I am a big fan of T-Rex. It is very loud in there but I found the portions to be huge and yummy.

I am soooooo excited it is all becoming so real. Every year it's the same thing, we book a vacation but it is NOT until we book the flights that it hits me........YAYYYYYYYY US we are doing this.....once again we are taking another DREAM COME TRUE DISNEY VACATION.
So we were trying to decide how much time we would spend at DVC resort prior to out cruise, we were either going to fly into Orlando on the 4th or the 2nd......well it was not a hard sell we will arrive into Orlando early morning on the 2nd. From there we will head to Disney Animal Kingdom Kidani where we will be staying in a 1 bedroom Sav view for 4 nights prior to our cruise.......we stayed there last year but I am so looking forward to returning.
Durning our 5 days there we will spend two just relaxing by the pool, one day we will spend at Discovery cove, the other either at Bush Gardens or Sea World.......looking for suggestions, we live in southern califonia to start with so Sea Wold here is just a 2 hour drive away, we have been there done that so if Sea World in Orlando is pretty much the same I dont see a need to visit that park.......our last day the 6th will be spent in the Disney Cruise Terminal waiting to board!!!!!!!:cool1:
So what's new with all of you? Any plans, before, after or durning the cruise you wanna share?
Thanks ALL,
N.L.

I like to visit IKEA because we don't have one at home - and eat in their restaurant - Swedish meatballs Yummmm.
Bok tower is WONDERFUL - check their website and plan your trip for when there's going to be a carillon concert. The gardens are nice too, albeit not SO extraordinary in January. While you're down to Lake Wales, visit the Florida Natural visitor center to learn all about the citrus industry.
If you scrapbook, Violettes in Lakeland is very good, as is MouseMemories in Kississimmee.
If you get a chance visit the Alligators in St. Cloud on http://www.wildwillysairboattours.com/ The tour you want is the private tour with Willy himself - he's a character, and it was worth every penny. He has a boat that will take two people - much better than the party boat.

In my view, you should pay cash at Beaches - it takes a table service credit and you can do better for your money.

Jeff is back to updating the website, I've gotten some requests to be added that he will get to soon. He's still working on getting the image spruced up for Zazzle some more. He will post the images that he has redone for the website for those of you DIY'ing your shirts/ etc.

Could you REST now, for a little bit, Jen? How much longer have you got to go, anyway? And what will the final degree be? You guys are the most GO! GO! family I know:laughing:
Not quite so hot here today, and thunderstorms keep rolling by and not stopping. I hope they continue to roll by on Saturday - it's the neighborhood yard sale. We've got so much stuff, but my spouse won't part with anything of 'his'. Oh well, what I liberated *will* be out of this house!
Happy Day!

Rest? What's that? :)
I have two more semesters after this. A total of 3 classes, one of which is my practicum. When I graduate I will have a master's degree in nursing informatics. In other words a nurse geek.
We are a go - go -go family. Jeff and I are always wanting to do something else. I'll finish school, we'll hopefully have another kid and then Jeff will go to law school. Not sure why we do any of this except we want to. we're certifiable!
We want to get started on our FE gifts, we're going to do the door magnets. We hopefully will design them in August so all we have to do is the names after the PIF date.

When you say a nurse geek(nursing informatics) what does that mean in practice? Would you tutor nursing students?
Sounds like you have a few busy years ahead.:)

Jen and Jeff -- y'all are amazing and I'm grateful for everything you do to make the cruise better for all of us.
As for the braces, I had mine put on whe I was 31 and wore them through our wedding and the birth of Carly. You can do it and it will be worth it when they are finally off.
I agree take some time to rest and enjoy your little one.
I'm checking out companies for the bracelets. Again, this FE group is open to any one. I'm bad with names, but I did receive private message and will put your information on the list.
I've also decided on our personal gift for FE, just need to get it ordered and put together.
Happy Wednesday!

Braces - one of these days, I'll get them. When I was growing up, my mom worked for an orthodontist who offered to put my sister and I both in braces for no charge. My mom didn't want to take advantage of him. But I will get them one day! DH wants them too.
DD will hopefully have hers off by the time we cruise. But I'm worried about her losing her retainer on the cruise. She loved going up on Deck 9 with her friends and getting food. Also, we just got her some prescription sunglasses. We're already stressing the importance of her not losing these things. She's a responsible kid but I know with her having fun and excited, it's easy to forget these things.

How to explain what I do? I'm the computer nurse. I make the computer documentation systems work. I keep the computers and fetal monitors working. I do research based on what I can pull out of the documentation. I left the bedside almost 2 years ago after 10 years being at it. I got burned out on the NICU after DS was born. The degree is a formality. I don't need it, but I wanted it. And I had to use my GI Bill funding before I lost it.
I teach computers to nurses, but I don't think I'll ever really teach. I don't have the patience!

The braces aren't so bad. Just really annoying. I need to have a palate expander put in on Aug 2. That's gonna stink.
As a kid I never lost my prescription sunglasses. Regular, yes, never prescription. Funny how that worked!

Thanks for the explanation. I'm not sure we have an equivalent over here. It does sound very techy, but in these days very useful and necessary.

I guess I got the closed thread to check in on. We just booked this cruise last week and are very happy to be part of your group. This will be my 11th Disney Cruise and the first for my grandson. We are both excited about going.
We are spending two days at WDW before cruise and three at Disneyland afterwards.
I want to participate with FE so please catch me up to date on everything I have missed.
I am from northern West Virginia, about 35 miles south west of Pittsburgh and my grandson lives in Summerville, SC. That is where I am now and will be until August 22.

Ok everyone, for those who are familiar with the mod resorts, I want your advice. We always stay at the YC with the fam, but me being a young grad student and spending so much on the cruise, I'm looking for a mod for this trip. last year I did the Pop and hated it (to each his own), so while I'm looking to save some money, its not important that I save oodles of money as I'd never stay there again. Anyways, I've narrowed it down to Port Orleans Riverside or Caribbean Beach. I would love to hear from those of you who've stayed at one or both. Right now I'm slightly leaning more towards CBR because it has the "tropical" feel that makes me feel like I'm on vacation and away from the ickiness of NJ, especially in the wintertime. But I'm still open to both, and will be making my decision by the weekend, so if some of you could chime in, I would greatly appreciate it, thanks!

I have stayed at all the Mods. I like Riverside the best as so does DW. CB is third on our list. We did not like the layout of the resort very much. At Riverside we always requested a Magnolia Bend room, those are the ones like Mansions. We always felt like the real world was really far away. Never got that feeling with CB.

Caribbean Beach is gorgeous, tropical in appearance and did I mention gorgeous? But, it's BIG - very big - MUCH bigger than Riverside - SO big, in fact, they have their own internal bus system. It has 5 or 6 bus stops. If size matters to you, you may wish to chose Riverside.
Riverside is big too, but not that big. It is also very beautiful, with an interesting storyline and fun entertainment in the lounge. I love it. But then, I like all the mods, even the one I will never stay at again - Coronado Springs!

Oh just wait, you'll be computer charting soon, everyone will be now that the government is starting to mandate it. Once the learning curve is done, it is a much better system IF it's the right system for your unit/ hospital.

Wow!!! What an active group...I hope I get to catch up on all the postings here...I feel like such a latecomer! LOL
My Hubby and I just booked this cruise, I'm so excited as the Panama Canal has always been my dream cruise, and now I'm finally doing it...and with Disney.
After I post this, I'm heading to the website to check things out (and will PM TigFanJeff) and will find a countdown signature to add to my posts.
We're staying at OKW on the 5th (unless our waitlist room at BLT comes through)...flying Southwest down in the morning. After the cruise we hope to stay at one of the Disneyland Hotels for 2 nights and fly home on Sunday...just have to wait until around Aug 17th for Southwest to extend their schedule.
BTW...My vote for a Moderate would be Port Orleans-Riverside. That used to be my favorite until we joined DVC. We prefer the Alligator Bayou rooms....seems more like a riverside resort than a hotel.
Be talking to you!

Hello Judy and Russ. I have done the Panama Canal twice with Disney. You will love it. We to called Riverside our favorite until we finally joined DVC. The only place we differ is, we are not big fans of the Aligator Bayou side, but to each their own. Also as someone who works for SWA thanks for flying us.

DH and I have stayed at both POR and CBR and I definitely enjoyed POR more. That is where we intend to stay before the Cruise. As others have stated CBR is a beautiful resort but it was way to big for my liking. I thought that walking around the POR Resort was very peaceful and enjoyable. Also the Boat rides to Downtown Disney are great too. I agree with Alan, the Mansions are my favorite part of the resort too but that is just personal preference

I was about to respond to WDW Princess 71's post, when I read Alan's, and he said exactly what I was thinking. POR is the best mod imho. I love the theming, and we also always requested a room in Magnolia Bend. The lanscaping rivals that of the deluxe resorts. We also stayed at CBR, and thought it was too big, and way too far to walk to the food court.
POR was always my favorite mod before joining DVC, and I miss it. We used to always go back to POR for breakfast at Boatwrights every trip...that is until they cancelled breakfast (which imho was a far better meal than the dinner served there).

We LUV SWA!!!!!
we loved SWA too, until i last week when i had a business class ticket, which allowed me to pass through the airport security lines and check-in very quickly, but did NOT result in having a seat on the plane for me when i arrived at the gate (i had been given a "security" slip instead of a ticket at check-in). didn't get to board until after the blue slips, the entire A section, and most of the families.
they had to BEG customers to give up a seat. as they were loading the families, a few people came forward to get the later flight and travel vouchers. then, once i boarded the plane, and everyone else had boarded, there were still about 4 empty seats, so the guy who gave up his seat for me, as well as several standbys, all got to get on the flight in the end. under other circumstances, i would have just waited for the next plane, which was about 3 hrs later, but i had connecting travel and a border to cross, just couldn't do it. then, nearly didn't get my drink (i didn't get one on my first flight, also business class, they gave me a voucher as i left the plane). nearly didn't have room for my carry-on in the overhead bins because i was so late getting on (lots of finagling there and asking people to be nice since it was only a 50 minute flight).
i should really ask for a refund of the $20. all that stress for nothing.
otherwise, usually have no problems. but with a paid Business Class ticket, I really should have been guaranteed a seat. so that was a big notch for the "no" pile for SWA. but really, with cheap flights, free bags, no change fees, this day in age, you can't afford to fly anyone else.

Just a couple of things. Some you may like and some you may not. First. From your story you sounded like you were running late, I am not saying you were, just that is the impression I got. If that is the case, we can give your seat away 10 min before departure. Again I am not saying this was you, just maybe what happened. On the flip side, the agent who checked you in should have realized that you were a bussines select passenger and issued your bording card as you are guaranteed A1-15. Again the only reason you would not get this is if you were late. I would love to know were this happened. I might know people to whom, if we did mess up, I can pass it along. (one of my best friends in the company is in charge of the airport experience and always hitting me up for problems.) Please I need to point out, I am not saying that you were late, just trying to get to the bottom of a problem that you had.

Lyne, are you talking about the reality show with Southwest Airlines. If so, the friend I mentioned in the above post was one of the "Stars". Her name is Susie, and she is like a sister to me. Just a FYI that show is over 8 years old now. DW and I are taking her and her new husband to WDW next year as their wedding gift. (Thank god for DVC). No she did not marry the guy that she had the tearfull good by to in one episode. Sorry about the rambling.

SWA would still be my airline of choice IF they got the nonstop flights to Orlando back. No way will I go to Orlando through Chicago.
Flying them on Monday and that will be the last time until I come back from SNA in January. If they still have flights to Dulles from SNA when the schedule opens.

Yay :yay: Just booked the flight to MCO. The SW flights I have been checking went down $23 and I decided I had better just book. Plus, I know I will have to check bags for this trip, so SW will save me money there. SW only started to fly out of MKE a year ago and it's my new favorite airline. We will not get in until late on the 5th, so now I have to get a good deal on the MCO Hyatt.
As far as moderates go-I have stayed at all of them and my favorite is CBR. I love the tropical feel. :beach: I have to say that I hate POR. I realize this is a personal preference but I really don't like it. It's a shame because we have a family of five and that is the only moderate that will fit our family now. Our future visits as a family will most likely be offsite until the kids grow up.
We finally have rain here today. My lawn and garden are so happy.

(one of my best friends in the company is in charge of the airport experience and always hitting me up for problems.) Please I need to point out, I am not saying that you were late, just trying to get to the bottom of a problem that you had.
well, yes, we were a bit late, but got there LONG before that 10 minute cut off. i was checked in about 45 minutes prior to departure, but then had to get through security, which was quick since i got to use the shortcut line (maybe 5 minutes or so). and i got to the gate desk before boarding had begun. but it took them so long to figure out why i didn't have a seat, that they started boarding! i was standing there at the desk for a good 20 minutes before they issued me a ticket. i'm sure they were just as confused since i had, in fact, checked in with plenty of time, AND had arrived at the gate before boarding had begun, and yet still didn't have a seat. the agent said something about "it didn't save", over and over and over again. "i dont know why, but it didn't save".
also, since i didn't check any bags, i went to the self help kiosk to get my own ticket printed. and when i got the weird slip, i was confused, but hehe, there were only 2 agents at the time, and they were working with a mile-long line of people trying to check bags. getting their attention was not working whatsoever (i'm short and small and look like a teen, so i tend to get ignored by many adults who think i am not worthy of their time). so i took my carry-on and my security pass and just left, deciding if i could get through security with it, i'd get a ticket at the desk, worry about it then. and like i said, i made it to the gate before boarding had begun. so i should have been fine.
but it took the people at the desk so long to figure out what happened, and they were trying to help other people at the same time. a couple other people had gotten the same slip, and they walked up, handed over their security slip, and a ticket was printed right away, in fact, i think they were just chilling on the desk already, printed and ready to go. how could these folks who didn't have BC just have a ticket waiting, and yet i paid for a guarunteed seat and they didn't have one for me? thats wrong.
but once the very nice gentleman gave up his seat for me, i was escorted all the way onto the plane by a SWA staff member, like, all the way, making sure i had a seat and space for my bag. so that was nice.

I have not stayed at Riverside or CB so I'm not going to be much help. We're booked for POFQ for the night before the cruise - I like the smaller atmosphere of FQ. We stayed have stayed at Coronado Springs and loved it. BIL stayed at CS last month and said they would never go back as it's too big.

I have stayed at both and we prefered CBR. It is huge but we got a room close to the main pool and food court. PO just did not have the Disney appeal to us. But CBR did. Shutters us great too. Plus the pool bar makes great tropical drinks. CBR was redone about a 2 years ago so the rooms are nice.

BWI says it all to me. Look I love my job and my company, but we have some complete morons working at BWI. When I fly, I try to avoid it like the plague. Still thanks for the clarification. I think I know what happened and it is a computer system problem. See after x amount of boarding passes are issued, and yes yours should have been as business select is a auto check in, the computer locks out the issue of boarding passes anywhere but the gates. I will pass your story to my friend and it will be one of the things of a very long list of things for her to look into. I even just told her about something that is really getting under my skin. Don't worry, it really does not affect the passengers, just what people who share my job title.

Just wanted to give a heads up about our change policy. Starting at the end of Jan 2011 (The excat date is on our website) you will only be able to exchange your ticket in for another ticket for the person named in the ticket. I maybe understanding it wring since it does not affect mu department, so I am not sure if you could let's say you bought the ticket for your young child, I think since you paid for it it is all good. I am not sure. Check the web site. Just wanted to give you guys the heads up.

Thanks Alan. I noticed that today when I was changing my flight. I was wondering about the deal with mutliple people on one reservation though. I know that everyone is broken down separately, like when they charge the cards or issue credit it is broken down into each person. So, I was wondering if all the credit from one confirmation could go towards a new ticket for any one person on that confirmation or if each individuals credit would only transfer to a ticket with their name. I will look further on the website since you are not sure.

I have a $160 credit thanks to $35 airfare sale for Oct. Going to use it for Jan on the way home. I was told by my TA that only KV and BLT do not have pick up. You must go to Contemp or Animal Kingdom Lodge. From 2010 they pick up at all the values.

Just a yard sale tip for the tent. I have seen many tents at yard sales and have even been tempted to buy-but they are always rolled up in a box or bag. If I don't know what the tent looks like, I can't buy it. Set up your tent and you have a much better chance at selling it.
Hope you make some cruise money at your sale. :goodvibes

Hi all,
I'm try8iig to be back now, other than the couple little things i've posted. It's been a bad few weeks. My father went down hill really fast and i lost him 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I'm so sad all the time, and have to remind myself that he had a long and mostly good life, with some really sad times (lost both sons and a wife, and a second wife to alzheimers) and some great times - 6 doting grandchildren and several doting stepgrand and great grand children. And while planning the funeral and running to the funeral directors and such my almost 13 year old car blew up. and then my air conditioning (house) did the same (in this record heat wave). Did the funeral, bought a new car, got the a/c fixed (uner warranty - yeah!!), and now i have poison ivy all over my face and arms. sigh. not a minute to breathe. I'm so proud of my children and neices and how they helped us through this and how they handled themselves.
oh the up side, i've almost gotten caught up with the threads. I can't think well enough to figure out FE gifts for it. I dont know if i will do it now. Maybe time will help. I can't figure out what to start thinking of it. Maybe its too soon, though i could use the vacation now! I can't beleive 6 months from now i'll be cruising!
So i'll be asking stupid FE questions soon as i'll be doing estate stuff too and dont want to wait till last minute but want to decide if i'm doing it. my brain is all mush. so i'll apologize in advance and say thanks too!

As far as weekend plans, we are considering going to see Despicable Me. I really hadn't planned on seeing it based on the previews but so many people have commented on how good it is. Tomorrow night, hubby and I have a going away/birthday party for his boss that we need to go to. Sunday, don't know what we got going on but DH is off so we'll just enjoy having him home.

So i'll be asking stupid FE questions soon as i'll be doing estate stuff too and dont want to wait till last minute but want to decide if i'm doing it. my brain is all mush. so i'll apologize in advance and say thanks too!
ok, need to go now. Take care, have a good weekend, and if you're in this heat wave, stay cooool. (Here in maryland it's supposed to be over 102 tomorrow).

You poor Dear!
Been there done that - it will take you a while to recover - tincture of time is the healer.
The estate stuff will be a pain in the tush for a while. Patience is needed. Persistance is mandatory!
At least, you have thinking about the cruise to give you some relief! Hang tough. This time too, shall pass,

Warm here and muggy - the yellow, red and green rainclouds on the weather map are headed this way. I have to go into the office today and to the grocery but other than normal house stuff, nothing on the agenda.

Hi everyone,
We are looking forward to the cruise so much!
Me and DH and son Max aged 9. The kids club sounds so much fun.
I had a surprise when I checked 'who is going' and found out that there was another family in the stateroom that Disney said we had!! Hopefully it will get sorted out!
It is cold here in Sydney, Australia.!!
Welcome Aboard! Nice to know it is cool someplace as we roast in South Carolina!

Sherri,
So sorry to hear about your Dad. I lost my dad when I was 19. He looked like Andy Girffith and sounded like him too so any time I want to hear his voice I watch Andy. I think the hardest thing was not being able to have him walk me down the aisle. He loved the Panama Canal as he worked for the Corps of Engineers and went there frequently. He promised one day to take me there one day. It did not happen bur I am making it happen. It does get better it does take awhile.

Are you talking about the elderly couple?...I think the husband was in a wheelchair, and the wife couldn't help...so the woman from the airline took him into the bathroom. Is that your friend? I saw that one. God bless her for having that kind of patience (and stomach)...that is really going above and beyond the call of duty.

Tammy, how nice it must be to live so close to WDW! I would love being able to go anytime!
It's not very often he gets 2 day off in a row!
Carmen, we are really lucky. The only down side is every time we get in the van DS3 thinks we're going to WDW! We're considering Despicable Me too, let me know what you think if you go. Enjoy DH for 2 days in a row!

That's cute about your DS. Reminds me of after we went to WDW when DS was 2.5. He thought every plane went to WDW! We live close to an airport and for several months every time he'd see a plane (which was sometimes multiple times an hour), he'd say, "That plane's going to Mickey Mouse's House!"
Despicable Me was really good! We all really enjoyed it!

Sherri, you have my heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your father. I lost mine when I was 13 and I agree with Lexi, the hardest thing was not having him walk me down the aisle. Sending lots of hugs and love your way.
We're having a quiet weekend at home, as Joe is on a short turn-a-round. We did go out to dinner tonight. I've recently become a "mystery guest" and got a call to visit a restaurant tonight. They won't be getting good marks, as it was 30 minutes before anyone stopped at our table to take our order. The server who stopped wasn't even supposed to be our server. The food was fantastic, though, and the manager came by and comped our appetizer.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday!

Just a heads up for anyone looking at taking the Disney cruise transfer from Disney resort to the port, they charge $35 per person so for us a family of 4 that would be $140.....plus you have to make stops at other resorts along the way.......
We have always taken a private limo service to and from the port. Just a example we are a family of four and book with Happy Limo for us in a stretch limo one way to the port cost would be $136......this works better for us. Your time, your own private limo and you save $4.00. Just though I would throw that out there.......:cool1:
Has ANYONE been to any of the ports of call. What would you recommend doing, not missing, seeing????? :confused3

I'm not getting my FE gifts together yet, but i'm thinking probably 100 - 130. If that turns out to be too many, I'll either go round twice or surprise non - disers with a little trinket. Personally, I don't think it matters exactly *what* as much as the surprise factor:goodvibes
We made a whole $10 each, today. Hardly worth setting the stuff out - so I still have my tent. On the plus side, I got to spend some quality time with my neighbor, it didn't rain until after everything was picked up and put away, There is less junk in my house, and I netted $40 for the weekend.
Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday!

We use DCL transfers as a security. If anything happens to that bus in the road the ship will wait, at the very least DCL is responsible for us if we miss the ship. That won't happen with acprivate company. As for the ports I have been to them all but the Costa Rica port. As you know I don't like getting off the ship so I can't really offer advise.

We always rent a car, SUV or van, depending on who (and how much luggage) we have. Plus, that gives us the opportunity to stop at ABC or a grocery without having to hurry to get what we need. I have done the towncar but no so sure that I would do it again.
We have not done any of the ports so this will all be new sights for us. I am exactly the opposite of Alan - I love to visit the ports and see some of the sights. Not that I can tell you that I cruise based on ports - because I love the ships as well.
I hope everyone had a grand weekend.

I completely agree- love seeing the new sights and enjoying the ship as well. Every port on this cruise (except for CC) will be new for me too, so I'm really excited. As for transportation, we used DCL transfers the first time I cruised 6 years ago, and it was okay for one time (we liked watching the video on the bus on the way there and getting psyched up), but I wouldnt do it again. The flexibility of having your own car like you said to stop at ABC for liquor and Publix for snacks is the ultimate in convenience, plus I like to arrive at the port first thing in the morning. We are staying in WDW for 3 nights prior to cruise, and hope to rent a car for the whole stay if we get a good price, but at the very least we'll be renting at least one day to drive to the port.

This is a random question, but is anyone from the Memphis, TN area or visited the area, particularly Graceland? I am leaving next weekend for my 3 week road trip and on the way back we'll be going through TN, and I was contemplating whether I should make a stop at Graceland or not. I have done some research, and I read a lot that says it is located in a very bad part of Memphis, a sketchy neighborhood. So I was wondering, if anyone is from there or has been there, if you have any advice? I'm not a die hard fan so I wouldnt be crushed if I decide to skip it, but if it is a really good experience I would hate to blow it off without good reason.

Well, Virgin America came out with their fares - and the one way fare on Jan 1 was over $500!!! What are they thinking?
The good news is that United came down in price for their non-stop - so even though it's more than I'd like to pay, at least it's a non-stop and I was able to snag economy plus for a few bucks more.
So air fare is booked! (At least one way).:rolleyes1

we loved SWA too, until i last week when i had a business class ticket, which allowed me to pass through the airport security lines and check-in very quickly, but did NOT result in having a seat on the plane for me when i arrived at the gate (i had been given a "security" slip instead of a ticket at check-in). didn't get to board until after the blue slips, the entire A section, and most of the families.
they had to BEG customers to give up a seat. as they were loading the families, a few people came forward to get the later flight and travel vouchers. then, once i boarded the plane, and everyone else had boarded, there were still about 4 empty seats, so the guy who gave up his seat for me, as well as several standbys, all got to get on the flight in the end. under other circumstances, i would have just waited for the next plane, which was about 3 hrs later, but i had connecting travel and a border to cross, just couldn't do it. then, nearly didn't get my drink (i didn't get one on my first flight, also business class, they gave me a voucher as i left the plane). nearly didn't have room for my carry-on in the overhead bins because i was so late getting on (lots of finagling there and asking people to be nice since it was only a 50 minute flight).
i should really ask for a refund of the $20. all that stress for nothing.
otherwise, usually have no problems. but with a paid Business Class ticket, I really should have been guaranteed a seat. so that was a big notch for the "no" pile for SWA. but really, with cheap flights, free bags, no change fees, this day in age, you can't afford to fly anyone else.
SWA would still be my airline of choice IF they got the nonstop flights to Orlando back. No way will I go to Orlando through Chicago.
Flying them on Monday and that will be the last time until I come back from SNA in January. If they still have flights to Dulles from SNA when the schedule opens.
Southwest would have been my first choice as well, but for some reason prices on Jan 1st are high on all the airlines (you'd think Jan 2nd would be the busiest day). I did end up paying $70 more per person than Southwest in the end on United (that's including the luggage fee), but for that $70 we got:
- A nonstop flight: which is less stressful, and less likely to be afflicted by delays (especially weather related delays in January)
- Economy Plus - which for a 6'2" person like me is almost as good as first class.

Just got back from a week chaperoning 15 teenagers through the sights of L.A. including 2 days at DL.
I have to say - World of Color is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

Glad you liked WOC. Personaly I liked it as well. A treat for the eyes, but the lack if story really bothers me. In my opinion Fantasmic is still the best nighttime show at DL. Please do not get me wrong, WOC is also a must see just not as good.

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!
I have my first gift and know what I am getting for my 2nd. I am still working on my third. (Sounds like a lot but they are small things!) I am counting on the 100ish range. The one I have I have alot of so if I need to - I can give out 2.
I have a couple comments about FE's.
In my view, with 100 rooms, you're only going to want to go around once! You may even want to split it up and do a deck a day, because 100 rooms is A LOT! I have had stickers, temporary tatoos, postcards, free brochures from the national archives, pencils, candy and pens as FE gifts and ONE item is perfectly adequate!
There are a couple things to consider.
First of all - you have to get your stuff there - so you likely want light weight/ small.
Second of all, people have to get their "haul" home - and 100 items is not inconsiderable, even if they're small.
One year, I made laminated book marks with 4 little photos in a 'filmstrip' arrangement. They met the criteria for small and light, but they were a "pita" to make, and ended up costing around a dollar a piece when you add up cardstock, photos, laminate, and ribbon, which is rather a lot when you're making 100.
Happy Planning!

As the group grows, it might be a good idea to split into groups and do FE for smaller groups.

FE gifts - We ususally like our FE gifts to be a surprise but since there will be so many people participating, I'm spilling the beans so there are no duplicate gifts.
We are giving luggage tags. We will do at least 2 per cabin. Depending on the number of people that sign up I may be able to do one per person. We are also doing a seperate gift for the kids but I haven't decided what that will be yet.
Jeff,
After final payment, could we add something to the website to specify what FE gifts are being given? For those that are not keeping it a surprise.

I'm not a die hard fan so I wouldnt be crushed if I decide to skip it, but if it is really good experience I would hate to blow it off without good reason.
Nicole, I had to be in Memphis late February when my aunt was passing. Carly and I didn't stay at the hospital all-day everyday, so we took a trip to Graceland. I am so glad we went. I bought the all-access pass. I loved the whole experience, since I'm part of the Elvis generation. Carly thought it was okay. We didn't feel in the least bit afraid. I reccomend it.

I'm heading up the wristband FE group and it's open to anyone who wants to participate. I'm planning on one for each person participating. I'm just not sure about getting one for everybody listed on our website. Any opinions?
The bands will be lime green silicone, with "From WDW to DL" "PCCruise 2011" and Mickey heads separating the quotes.
On a personal note, one month from today I will be 50! :scared1: We're celebrating with a trip to WDW and have plans to be at MK for early opening followed by breakfast at Chef Mickey's. In the evening we're headed to Epcot with dinner at Coral Reef.

DH and I were going to do a ghiradelii visit at DTD the night before we embark, but after watching unwrapped, looks like we're going to Goofy's for the make your own dessert.
Anyone done that before/
We've done the make your own treats at Goofy's before and they are really good! It's been a couple of years and I think they may have removed some of the toppings but I think there is still a pretty good variety. My favorite is the Mickey Mouse Rice Krispie dipped in dark chocolate, covered in pecans, and then drizzled with caramel! So yummy and so rich - it lasted about 3 days! We may be hitting Goofy's too since we'll be at DTD on the afternoon of the 5th.

Don't worry about being 50 - just enjoy!!!
I would think the numbers actually going on this cruise will be very different from today, so don't use the numbers now to judge the amount needed. Great gift though.:thumbsup2

Happy early birthday! Sounds like the perfect way to spend your birthday!!!
Some day, I hope to spend my birthday at one of the parks and/or cruise. We had originally planned to do the MR in March and hit DL on my birthday and then both of the kids' birthdays would fall on the cruise. Would have been the perfect birthday celebration for the three of us. However, when we realized we could do the PC cruise, we couldn't pass it up.

Okay, I know these Silly Bandz are very popular with kids around DD11's age. But for those of you with younger/older children, are they into them? These would be something very lightweight, they could trade them, and wouldn't be a big deal if they got multiples. I had some another idea of what i wanted to do, but I don't think it's going to pan out.

Happy Early Birthday:bday: The wristbands sound great. Looking forward to wearing one.
One question though, I thought you were taking names so we could reimburse you for the cost of our wristband, not that you were giving them as FE gift.

A question for those of you who are already getting FE gifts together. How many are you planning on?
I've got 110, but they can be combined if there are fewer participants

Just an update on the PV canopy (zip line) tour I posted about. We already have 20 people interested for the zip line and 6 for transportation only (zoo area).
I doubt they count the transportation only as part of the 25 people needed for the 25% discount. But I'm also sure there are several people waiting on DCL to release excursions before they decide. I really don't think we will have a problem getting 5 more people to join. I'll probably wait until at least 2 weeks after DCL releases excursions to get this group started. But we are definitely doing this and organizing a group even if there are not enough people for the discount. BTW, anyone over 6 years old can do the zip line. I've been on a cruise where a group got together and funded wristbands in lieu of fe gifts. On another cruise, we ordered the sizes we needed for our family from the point person and paid her by paypal. In both cases, there was a wristband for each family member - an easy way to identify other dis-ers.

We went while we were on a road trip to WDW! We loved it! We actually stayed at the Heartbreak Hotel which is a hotel owned by Graceland. I am not a diehard fan but it was fun to see history.

We just made it over 25! With a group of at least 25, we get a 25% discount and our own group bus. Once the DCL excursion are posted, I will call the company to set up the group. I'll then send everyone the contact info to make payment. Your payments will go directly to the tour company, not me. But I have to set it up and you must call to make payment. If you make payment through the website, you will not get the 25% discount and will not be counted as part of this group.

I know the cruise is a ways off but I want to make 100% sure that we are able to do this adventure. When I spoke with Canopy customer service they advised me that each tour has a limited number of spots and that at time of reservation payment is due.
Can you please let me know how or when reservation will be made.:cool1: If you are looking to hold off a bit on making the reservation I think we may book online on our own......my husband wants to make sure we are able to do this and would hate for our time 10:45am to sell out before our group reservation was made.:surfweb:

If you want to do the 10:45 then you will need to book on your own. We arrive at 7:30am and leave at 4:30pm. When I do non-ship excursions, I always make sure I'm back well before then. The 3:34pm time is cutting it too close for me...but maybe I'm just a worry wart when it comes to that. We were on an excursion one time where the steering went out in the bus. It took at least 30 minutes to get another bus to use and then finish the tour. Thank goodness that was a cruise line excursion so I was not worried.
When I asked them if they pick up at the ship, they told me the closest they can get is the Collage?? I was also told that from Collage to Los Veranos site is about a 45min ride. I guess I'll have to call them again to confirm. The time I was looking at is the 9:15am with pick-up at Collage, which is the closest to the ship. I read on another board that you can walk there from the ship or take a very short taxi ride. The other option would be the 9:45am pick up from the canopy office. Are either of those good with everyone else that is interested?
BTW, I was told they can take up to 70 people on each tour. And so far, August 2010 is the only month that is completely booked. Even September 2010 has openings.

I am actually OK with those times as well I was just told by a canopy worker that pickup would not be available for those time but I think there was a language barrier so maybe information was not relayed so well.
I guess my main concern is when will reservations be made.

We would :love:love:love: to zipline and do the group tour but DS is too young :(. He should be tall enough as he is 3 feet 6 inches now but he will only be 4 yrs, 9 months. Plus, we also hope to get DD her dolphin swim in while in PV. That is the one thing she is most looking forward to on this cruise.
As far as Costa Rica, we are doing a day tour with Okie Dokie Tours. He said that small groups of 8-12 are very comfortable. We are 4 in this group. Let me know if you are interested and I will send you the information of what we are doing. Most of the recent reviews on Cruise Critic are very good. There have been some negative reviews, but since most of the recent reviews are excellent, I went ahead and booked with him.
