My husband and I are taking his whole family (mother, brother, sister in law and 2 nephews) to Disney (staying at our DVC Villa) in January. None of them have ever been to WDW! (can you imagine??)

The boys are ages 9 and 12 and I know the day we get there they will be chomping at the bit to get going. Realistically after traveling all morning we don't forsee hitting the parks until the next day. So I was thinking of starting them off by going to a character meal for dinner that night in one of the resorts so they can get a taste of Disney magic up close and in person. We are staying at the Villas as the Wilderness Lodge, who I believe used to have a character breakfast, but it has since been discontinued. We do have Hoop De Do reservations for the Monday but while that is entertaining, it's not Disney Characters.

Any recommendations on which character meal we should take them to and why? I'm SO clueless when it comes to character meals, as my hubby and I never do them when we are on our own!!

I am not sure if you would conciser it a charter meal but the Hoop-t-do is amazing!

I took my son for his 9th birthday and it was wonderful. He's not much on going up to the characters in parks so I can take his picture (he thinks it's for the little kids), but at this dinner he was having so much fun and I've rarely seen such a big smile on his face. I got so many great pictures of my kids with the characters and it was stress free.

I believe the only character dinners outside the parks are Chef Mickey's at Contemporary & 1900 Park Fare at Grand Floridian. 1900 has Pooh & Friends which may be a bit young for yoour nephews. So, I would recommend Chef Mickey's. Maybe Rainforest Cafe or OHana if you are open to non-character meals? For menus you can check-out http://wdwig.com
Have a great vacation! We will be at WDW Jan11-14th :p

the Contemporary has an amazing arcade, so with sons your boys' age, they would be doubly happy with Chef Mickeys. Ride the monorail the whole way around, and try to sit in the front as copilots

I suggest CHef Mickey's at the Contemporary. If you are staying at the Wilderness Lodge you can take the boat to the Contemporary which is somthing the children may enjoy. As state above, there is also a great arcade at the Contemporary. Enjoy your vacation!
