Close call (sort of) but lesson learned.
Yesterday our house was broken into in broad daylight, while DBF was out of the house for only 3.5 hours. He called and told me the tv's were missing, along with all our Wii stuff, ALL of my jewelry, a laptop and a bunch of other stuff... so the first thing that popped into my mind was CAMERA EQUIPMENT!!! I have about $5,000 worth of equipment- and I have a special schedule on my insurance to cover it... minus the last two lenses I bought. My Tokina 11-16mm and my Canon 24-105 f/4L were never put on the list because I'm LAZY. The first thing I thought was "omg. My 24-105."
DBF went through everything and I did when I got home... for some reason they left every bit of camera equipment even though it was in plain sight. Maybe the drug dealers are less inclined to jump all over stolen camera gear than Wii systems, I don't know.
Anyway, lesson learned- when I buy a new piece of equipment I'm calling up my insurance immediately. I'm sure many of you are more responsible than I am... but for those who are like me... call and update!!

An additional word of advice to do it as you buy it. We had my wife's original Digital Rebel on our policy. I wanted to replace that coverage with coverage for my XSi and a few lenses. However, I'm not sure where all the receipts are. To cover all this, I need to have them officially appraised at a local camera store which means money, etc.
So, check your coverage as you might need an additional rider to cover cameras (like your jewelry, etc.)

I am so sorry to hear this Karen!
About 8 weeks ago I saw a guy casing my neighbors house and called the cops. Before they could get there he went to the front door and rang the bell. My elderly neighbor answered the door and he gave her a made up story about how he lived down the block ( he did not ) and his Mom had ordered a package sent to that house by mistake. My neighbor asked the guy for his contact info but he saw me charging across the street after him and he took off in the woods behind the house. He looked like he was under the influence of a stimulant as he was very agitated the whole time I was watching him (20 + mins). We live on a cul-de-sac with 25 houses and everyone knows each other so I knew he didn't live on the street.
Police are saying that houses are being burglarized during the day when people are at work. I sent out a letter to my neighbors relating what happened and reminding them that the kids are leaving the doors unlocked and running from friends house to friends house and that we all have to be careful.
I hope that everything works out for you with your losses. Hopefully it will only be a matter of time until that creep gets his due!

Yes, most require additional riders (I thought this was called schedule too? I'm not sure of terminology :)) and I can't remember the limit on cameras. I bought the extra insurance for all my equipment because I knew it was much more than the limit, and I found out they only cover up to $1500 worth of jewelry so if I had more than that I should have gotten a rider for it. I think the limit on camera equipment is quite low because I started adding the extra coverage when I had only $850 worth of equipment.
I didn't think I had more than $1500 worth of jewelry either because most of my stuff isn't gemstones or very expensive... but when you collect silver jewelry all your life- well, yeah it's definitely more than $1500 worth!
I'm still thanking God my camera stuff wasn't taken, and things are starting to fall into place with replacements and getting a security system set up (today!!!). Thanks guys.

Sorry to hear about your break-in. Seems to be happening more and more in broad daylight.
Glad they didn't take your camera gear and that you had insurance on the rest of your belongings.
Hoping all works out and they catch the low lifes....
