Thanks for the list. Some of those prices are great. Am I correct in understanding that you take possession just before leaving the ship?

They deliver the liquor to your stateroom the last night. They are boxed in nice Disney boxes too.

We buy Tanqueray, and back at home the same size bottle costs $24.95, so this is a good deal. We usually buy our limit on each trip even though we are not big drinkers. It is nice to give as gifts or to have on hand.

The prices on the islands are even better. I paid 6.00 for Absolut vodka on St. Martin. I bought island rum also and they boxed it in a nice carry box. Anita.

According to the lady behind the counter at UPBEAT, where I purchased the liquor from. She said that each adult was allowed 1 liter on the Western. This is because, of Key West is the US, Grand Cayman will only deliver to the ship, and Disney won't accept deliveries (thus this cancels out any purchases there) and Mexico is the only other port.

On the Eastern, you are allowed to have 2 liters per adult, and as much Caribbean made liquor as you want. (like Jamaican rum, or any liquor bottled in the caribean.

We did quite well in a little food store on St. Marten that my sister in law took us to. It was off the beaten track, and thus the prices weren't slightly inflated like the tourist area stores.

However, the duty you pay per bottle is only 10%, so on a $20.00, you would only pay $2.00. We brought 4 bottles of Drambuie back this trip. Customs never even said anything to us about the extra 2. Would have cost us $4.40 more if they did. Not bad!

Customs will usually waive any fee under $10, but if you go over $10, be sure to bring some cash to pay the duty - because they don't take checks and they don't take VISA (or any other credit card).

FYI - That $15 bottle of Baileys will cost you $10 on St. Maarten.

BTW - If anyone going to DIScon 2002 wants to pick up another bottle (or two) of Guavaberry Rum on their next trip to St. Maarten for me, let me know. :)

we also noticed that all the liquor prices were cheaper on St. Marten than in St. Thomas...

I bought a liter of Tanqueray at St Thomas for $7. I'm sure it would be even cheaper at St Maarten.
