View Full Version : Idea for Epcot Tron Pavilion

This idea of mine is not to offer Disney to incorporate it at Epcot but just to share it with the DIS community. The pavilion that once housed Wonders of Life has currently only been used for private parties and the park's Flower and Garden Festival and Food and Wine Festival. An idea for the pavilion to open all year is to re-theme it to Tron as a visitor center from ENCOM. The attractions may include a simulator ride where guests join forces with Tron to save the digital world, fun and educational hands-on exhibits about computers and the internet, and arcade machines replicating light cycles featuring an arcade-style game of light cycle.

I think before they do anything like that, they would have to see if the movie is even going to be popular with the public. If it isn't, it would be a tremendous loss for Disney if they changed the pavilion before they knew the movie was going to really make it. As a side note, if the movie flops, they would have to take the Tron overlay off the monorail as well.

TRON is already doing very well in the merchandising front, so even if the movie doesn't make a huge profit they may keep it.

Look at Nightmare Before Christmas. It didn't make huge profits in the box office, but the merchandise has always done well, and they added the HM overlay in DL.

It sounds like a good idea to me. It would fit in Epcot nicely. I wish they would do something with Wonders of Life anyways.

All the Epcot Pavilions have a sponsor. Any ideas who the sponsor should be?

Razer! They are a gaming peripheral production company, and they are the ones making the TRON Legacy PC/gaming system peripherals :)

Tron doen't fit in EPcot at all imo. If there is a tron attraction it belongs in TL.

Although technically I agree, as Epcot should be about realism and TL is about fantasy, Disney almost opened a "Tron Arcade" back just after EPCOT Center first opened, in Communicore (now Innoventions). So Disney wasn't as concerned about it being a better fit in TL.

Honestly, at this point, seeing what else Epcot has these days, I really wouldn't mind if it took over the WOL pavilion.

I know I am glad it didn't happen I would only like to see a Tron attraction in WOL if the whole pavilion wasn't Tron related. If it were sponsored by Microsoft or Apple as a Computer related tech pavilion and Tron was just one part of it I would be ok with it.

Since HP is a corporate sponsor of WDW, I can't see them using Apple.

Nintendo would be a fitting sponsor as well, since most Disney games go to Nintendo systems (Disney does this intentionally because of the more "family" focus Nintendo puts on it's products).

And the "Body Wars" simulator is already in place, and could easily have a new movie put in for a TRON ride :)

Dude, if Tron is coming to the parks in any capacity (beyond the Tronorails), it's going to be in the form of a revamped Tomorrowland Arcade. It wouldn't really fit in at Epcot at all.

Thos simulator can never be used for guest again. They were used for some testing, but one of them was gutted for Star Tours in Toyko and the others are beyond repair now.

But it's the Epcot monorail that has the Tron overlay so someone at Disney must think it fits with Epcot, I don't see why it wouldn't fit in, it's not like we're sending people to Mars at the moment, but they still have a ride that revolves around it.

That's futuristic and based on more realistic science.

Being digitized and sucked into an evil computer game world isn't quite realistic (yet)

While the plot of the movie by its self doesnt fit into the Epcot theme, it does make for a great segway into new computer and entertainment technology. You know Disney, it's all about synergy!

Neither the old Tron...nor the new Tron are anywhere close to popular and mainstream enough to have any theme park money invested on them

a paint job is about as rich as the blood will be

And you can't sell crap based on it....which of course is WHERE THE REAL MONEY IS MADE!!!

And you know this how? The new movie won't even be out for several more months.

The original was designed in a completely different era for Disney and has become a cult classic, otherwise why would Disney even venture into making a sequel?

I've seen Tronorail in the Contemporary, Grand Flo and Poly and it just looks way out of place there so why not parade it up and down World Drive, through Epcot and at concourse where keeping themes doesn't appear to be such an issue.

It's more of oh god where do we put this thing and the Epcot line just seemed to give it the most advertising exposure while keeping a neutral theme around the themed monorail resorts.

Just my opinion.....

A couple of notes...

The vast majority of Epcot does not have a sponsor. Seas, Energy, Land, Imagination do not (Kodak and Nestle left), and Test Track might lose its sponsor. The leaves M:S and Spaceship Earth.

M:S is based off a failed movie, Mission to Mars. It actually reuses props and mimics set pieces from the film.

The movie Mission to Mars was based on the attraction Mission to Mars.

Epcot was never supposed to be about tieing into movie properties like this. Nemo & Friends is a disaster, in terms of what the Epcot Future World concept was actually supposed to be about.

OT: But, Tekneek, I think I know you. Do you post occasionally on hockey's future?

Anyway, sorry... back to the subject at hand.
I agree about Nemo. It makes me cry every time I see what the Living Seas has become.

Yes, but pretty much only on the Oilers board. I like to challenge the status quo in there quite a bit.

The state of Imagineering at Disney is a bit of a disappointment these days. I have no insight into the quality of people, but I am not pleased with the projects they are implementing. The way the Tomorrowland and Future World concepts are losing focus is a shame.

Exactly. This is a Magic Kingdom ride/pavilion.

The end result of Seas is because the history of the pavilion. It was intended in early concepts to have a long dark ride full of mythology of the sea giving away to the reality of the sea and the science behind it - very much akin to Horizons (not that Horizons gave you reality, but rather fanciful mythology and then "realistic" futurism.)

With that idea they sort of went buck wild after Turtle Talk was popular. It became the Nemo ride - which should have still put you in Sea Base Alpha but because of egos and a scorched earth policy toward old Imagineer's work, the killed Alpha and made it less educational. In theory Nemo was supposed to segue-way into the science.

That is not a defense of it, but an explanation.
