DH and I finally decided to go to Washington DC on our 3 days off coming up in 9 days!
We are looking for a nice hotel near the Mall that is close to the Metro.
Thanks! :D

Hey Kim!

Snoopy could give you some great recommendations, I am sure...I have only stayed once in Washington, D.C. and we stayed at the Hyatt, which was right in the middle of the city!! A gorgeous hotel, very rich and pampery! LOL I loved it there, it was easy to get to everything!!

Have a great trip, Kim!!

I recently stayed at the JW Marriott. It's right on Pennsylvania Avenue. I really liked it, nice hotel, good location :D

When we went a couple years ago we stayed at a Howard Johnson across from Watergate. It had a pool on the roof which was really neat..thats about all I know...Good Luck!

I second the vote for the JW Marriott. It was very nice, well-located, and close to the Metro. We were just there in June. TIP: I was there with my friend and our three daughters, and we discovered that many of the food prices (especially dessert) were more reasonable from room service than they were in the cafe in the lobby. But across the street, there is the Reagan Trade Center, and they have a great food court. We ate there the most during our stay.

The only negative was the elevators were real slow on Sunday morning when we, and apparently the rest of the hotel, were all checking out at the same time. Some people waited close to half an hour to get an open elevator!

Have fun!

Whenever my boss travels to DC, she always requests to stay at either the Mayflower (Renaissance, I think) or the Hay Adams - she's picky, picky, picky, so they must be great! :)

Thank you for your input!
I checked out the JW Marriott and I couldn't find anything under $250! So we just found a great rate at the Loews L'Enfant Plaza for $150 for a king room!

We also stayed at Loews several years ago. It is VERY nice and has a great pool on the roof. Very convenient too.

When we stayed in June, we were lucky and booked way in advance with the JW Marriott and got a double (with Pennsylvania Ave view) for $94 per night!

Have a great trip!

Another vote for the Marriott, everything that is in a good central location is going to be $$$, you will save the distance in cab fares. I prefer to drive in NYC over DC any day,now that is a crazy city to drive in. Have a great time.

We just opted for Tyson Corner VA....Sale at the Sheraton Premier was $55 per night.....YIPPEEEE!!!(I need two rooms)...we took the metro the first day and drove in the second...it worked out great......It was an awesome hotel.......I would have stayed closer if I could find something that cheap!!!

I do not remember if it was near the Mall or the Metro, but we stayed at the Madison when we went, and it was really plush and awesome. Of course DH was there at a convention and we got a free ride!!!

Within walking distance to all the sites!!!

"When we went a couple years ago we stayed at a Howard Johnson across from Watergate. "

that hojo is now owned by my alma mater and is a dorm. LOL :p

the marriott is really nice; i've never stayed at the loews but that is a pretty good location and cheap. pretty much anything downtown will be $$$, you can get better deals in crystal city or in rosslyn (va suburbs) which are only 10 minutes by metro to the mall. there are also some really good hotel deals in maryland out in bethesda too (about 20 minutes downtown by metro).

let me know if you want restaurant recommendations. :)
