View Full Version : CLOSED COMPLETE Disney Sketch Swap
AlexWyattMommy
07-01-2010, 06:57 AM
Due Date: SEPT 15th
-You are allowed to rotate the sketch/map in any direction you want.
-Please try to stay as true to the sketch/map as possible.
~ Where it says DATE, leave it blank. Please be sure to use a paper that can be easily written on with a sharpie/gel/glaze pen.
-Please use a layer of cardstock as your base. You may completely cover it with thinner paper. It is very difficult to sort them when they bend and sometimes the embellishments get caught.
-Please use quality paper on your layouts. I will not limit your name brands, but please use good judgment. If the patterned paper doesn't have a name printed on it, don't use it.
-You are not required to double mat your elements or have to embellish the elements one/two way.
-You can add a mat layer to the photo placements if you like. You may adjust the size of the layers shown, just not how many
-You may use any kind of embellishment you like on these sketches where they are indicated or in place of a layer of paper. Ribbon and fiber are good substitutions for paper layers.
-You may use different embellishments and paper on each of your layouts. Please ensure they are of the same quality.
-Please use simple titles like - Disney, Mickey, Princess, Good Eats, etc. The less wording, the easier it is to use the sketches. You don't have to tell me the title ahead of time.
-You will not have to tell me your title selection. It will be the surprise element along with the colors.
-Please do not sign up for more than you can handle. But these should be easier than other page swaps as the placement is already decided for you.
-New to me swappers are limited to TWO groups.
-Please sign the back of your layout.
-Place each group in their own 2-gallon baggie and label the baggie with your real name, DISname and group information.
-Please send postage for a medium or large flat rate box. Do NOT use the Click-it postage from USPS. I cannot use it. It has to be used the day it was printed. Stamps, check or cash are acceptable. I will be using the on-line postage maker from USPS it will be $10.20 for the medium box and $13.95 for the large box. This does include the DC already and if I have your email address, it will send the number and update you during delivery.
-Please include your address in the box so I can double check it with the information you will be PMing me after sign ups.
HAVE FUN WITH IT!

Princesses - general or specific, swapper choice, must declare at sign up to avoid duplicate characters, please pick commonly found princesses. [fairies can be used here too]

Hey AWM!!! Got up late...was up late!!! :scared1::scared1: I hate getting up this late...feel like I've lost time.
Anyway, could I have:
Sketch 1 - general princess
Sketch 2 - Goofy
Sketch 4 - general Disney
B4 - I'd like to do DHS, but if you want to avoid a duplicate, I can pick another???
and A1 - Epcot
Thanks a bunch!!
I already bought the supplies for these yesterday while waiting for DS to get out of baseball practice (in anticipation)!!!! It was pretty easy since everything was laid out for you and everything was fairly general and open!! YAY!

With the world groups the sketches are different. I am okay with duplicate subject matter in the same group. If anyone doesn't want duplicates, please feel free to PM me. I can change it and open up new groups to take up the duplicates. I understand if anyone feels that way and am happy to do what I can for the best of the majority. :) I can also change my subject if needed.

Okay...
I'd like Sketch 1 - Fairies (I may stick with just Tink, is that okay?)
Sketch 5 - Fab Five
Sketch A3 - AK
Sketch B1 - MK
LOVEMY3KIDDOS
07-01-2010, 08:11 AM
Sounds good!!! I'm fine with it...I have plenty of pix!
Do you need my date for sketch 4? If so, I can do anything 2005, 2006, 2008 or 2009. And, I can wait to decide to see what the others in the group need.

Thanks! I'm good now!
And, it looks like for the A's and B's we are getting 2 of each park anyway...just 2 Epcot in the A's and 2 DHS in the B's. But, DIT and MM flip flopped so it worked out perfect! :woohoo:

Question - Where it has a photo, but no mat, do I need to put a 4x6 piece of paper down to show where the photo goes? Or, I see you say something about adding a mat. Is that required?
Oh, and I am totally doing Totally Tink...I forgot I found Tink vellum for $.14 a sheet the other day!

A sheet of paper showing where the photo goes is required. It does not have to be a mat - 4-1/4 x 6-1/4. It can be ugly paper that is 4x6. Just something so the picture puter onner doesn't have to guess where they were supposed to go.

:teeth: Yes you can.
I remember when I first started swapping. :cloud9: It was so hard to not sign up for everything. Thankfully I'm a SAHM and finding time to do them all wasn't difficult. I got back such amazing work that it was totally worth the late nights.
Course, I don't use any of them. :rotfl2: I'm just a hoarder of swap items. I take them out and ooh and aah over them. :)

After looking more at Sketch #2, I see that it may be intimidating to make that open rectangle. I am going to take that one and use a ribbon to make the shape. Using a solid or one that has the same print on both sides should work just fine. :thumbsup2 If I find one the right width of my tape runner, I think it will go quickly.

Thanks!!! I know...I can't help myself! I want all of the things I see in all of the swaps!!! So, I seem to keep signing up...:confused3
I am also a SAHM and have lots of time to work...I'm fortunate I guess! So, yep, it makes those late nights worth it all when I get to look at all of the fun stuff I get back!
As for the using vs. hoarding: I ONLY hoard scrap supplies! I really try to scrap but spend too much time admiring everything!! :rotfl2: I also think it is a bit of "if I use it, then I won't have it to use in the future!!" :scared1: I think I may use these a little faster though...since they are ready-made!!! That's what I'm hoping at least!
Now...just need to find someone to join my sketch 2 group so it doesn't get cancelled out!!!!! :rolleyes1 I really like what I have come up with for it already!

I know I'll end up regretting this when I see the pages posted, but I think I'll watch this one. I'm still way too intimidated by what I'm seeing on the thread. I've never done a whole page for someone else before. Elements is one thing, but what if everyone hates the choices made for the page? Maybe I'll post a couple pages I've made on a new thread. If no one minds, would you all take a look at them and see if I'm qualified to be joining this kind of swap?

You will do fine with this swap. The same rule applies here as in the element swaps. If you create something that you would use in your book, then it's fine for the swap! The sketches can look intimidating, but they aren't bad at all and it's fun to get the different takes on them and different looks that you wouldn't create yourself from that swap.

Ditto what DIT said. If you are proud of it and would use it, then it is good for my book.
I have two spots open. If you want to take them and then send me photos of your work early, I promise to be fair and critical at the same time.

I think I'll wait. There's only one single-page group left and that's what I'm used to scrapping. I don't do two-page layouts in my own books very often and I'm just afraid I wouldn't be happy with the results (I tend to over-obsess about pages). Doesn't seem very economical to send just one group. Thanks for the offer, though. Maybe I'll be able to join in the next page swap. I'll be watching all of your work, and wishing I had joined. ;)

Thanks to you all. Now, I can use any paper but need to follow the layout pattern. Is that all there is to it? I will, of course, follow all the swap rules :).

Yes, you can have those groups. I'll go fix the OP in a minute.
The only things to remember are to use quality paper, check you already do that.
Use the sketch as a guideline.
You can use pattern or solids interchangeably with these. The sketch uses them to differentiate between the layers. You can use what you like. :thumbsup2
DIT-will go put you in too. :)

AWM - I got a bit of inspiration from sketch 3...I'd like to do it in Mickey theme if you are interested. I know you gave up a spot, so thought I'd see...and DIT said she'd take more...and maybe someone else wants something. Anyway, if you want...I would like to do it and REALLY make it my last. If not, I will be using the sketch and making the page for my book anyway!! LOL
I actually started cutting for these pages tonight at DS's baseball practice!

I actually don't see that very often, the not as nice paper. And I think it has been a more of a learning curve when I did see it. I am guilty of not knowing any better when I first started. I haven't been able to throw it away, but I don't use it. :rotfl:

I know you gave up a spot, so thought I'd see...and DIT said she'd take more...and maybe someone else wants something. Anyway, if you want...I would like to do it and REALLY make it my last. If not, I will be using the sketch and making the page for my book anyway!! LOL
I actually started cutting for these pages tonight at DS's baseball practice!
And, glad to see PN96 joining in! Hope you are enjoying the world!
Of course it is okay. I am keeping this open until Sunday.
Who can't always use another Mickey page? :confused3 He is top mouse for a reason. :thumbsup2 Other than safari photos, most of mine have him in there somewhere. :rotfl2:

LOL Ok!!! I am excited about that more than any other now!!! It's kind of funny because at first that was the only sketch I didn't have any inspiration for!!
Another question....when there is an addition for "date" do we have to fill it in, or can we leave it blank? Or, should we ask the others in the group so we can try to do something that works for everyone? I don't want to put a certain year on and the recipients not be able to use it. :confused3
Now, I have to start packing up my swap supplies for the weekend at the in-laws!! We leave after DS's baseball game Saturday. They live by the beach...which is great during the day. But, at night, I need busy work!!! :thumbsup2

You know what, I think we should just ignore that. I started out thinking we could ask each other and put them in and then I realized what a nightmare that could be when I start to swap out. I would be sick to my stomach for a fortnight if I sent someone the wrong date.
And there is more than one sketch with it.
So ignore the date. Just be sure to use a pattern or solid that is easy to write on with either a sharpie type pen or gel/glaze pen. I'll go put that in the instructions. Thanks. :flower3:

For my spot in 5B (I think that's what it is???) - the 2 page layout, can I do a general Disney theme even though 123SA is doing Disney World? Or, would you prefer I pick something else?

I'm guessing that Susan had more of all the parks feeling for her layout. But even if she didn't, yes, two general Disney themes would be fine. What are the chances that you both would use the same paper and embellishments? I'm guessing pretty slim.
I need to go fix the OP. It didn't take the first time.

I would love to see you play. :)
For groups 1 - 5 the theme choices are: General Disney colors, Princess-general or character specific, and Fab Five, all or one.
I'm afraid AK would be outside that choice. I could open up another Sketch A or Sketch B group and see if that fills up. Did you have a sketch in one of those groups you liked?

Just clarify for those who weren't in the last sketch swap I had.
Where there is a border or a shape, you should use a border or a shape. However, they don't have to be the same as what is shown. If the sketch has the bumps; you can use torn, wave, zig zag, waterfall, etc. If the shape is that bracket box {I don't know what it is called} you can use whatever your Cricut or cutter system makes. You do not have to go buy something that makes the same one. Even stars, hearts or Mickey heads would be okay with me. If the sketch shows scroll work going down the middle, you can use the lace felt, bling sticker things, Primas or any other shape there.
As long as I can say, yes, what you made can be seen in the sketch, I'm good. Play around with it. Stick straight to the letter of sketch. It is your choice. Just have fun. No stressing is allowed. I promise I will help in anyway you need.

You read my mind! I thought about Pluto, too! Suddenly, he is DS's favorite!
Do you think Pluto and MIckey (I'm thinking like, Best Pals, or something similar) is too specific? I would like to do that for Sketch 4B. If it's too specific, I will do just Mickey.
Also, as far as embellishments are concerned, are we trying to keep everything 2D, or is it OK to do 3D type things? I just wanted to make sure before I got too far into the design. And thank you for that post, AlexWyattMommy! I was beginning to stress a tiny bit...

Character combos are good. I believe there are character meals with both Pluto and Mickey and you can always use one photo of each on the layout. I will put you down for Best Pals.
3-D is good. As long as it will fit in a page protector with minimal cutting out of plastic.

I will go update the OP and with a quick check I think we full and call this sign up complete and ready to be a progress thread.
There will be check in dates. I will not require prototypes. I will require a photo of the work accomplished or supplies bought at the two week before mailing date. Angels need to be asked for before that date. And groups not complete will be swapped out amongst them to try to keep from getting duplicates back. These are generic enough that you should be able to use them.
I am so excited about the new swappers. I am so excited about our rare swappers and even more excited that the old hats are here too. I'm expecting to see a wide range of creativity. :cloud9:
My info will be sent out this afternoon.

I apologize if this has already been explained and I missed it. For the parks groups are we supposed to just use the initials of the park as the title or the whole park name?
AlexWyattMommy
07-05-2010, 08:20 PM
I used the initials because it was just easier to type during the sign ups. :)
You are free to use whatever title you would like as long as it obvious what park you are doing your layout. Jungle Fever, Wild Things, Animal Kingdom are all acceptable. I can't think of anything off the top of my head for the other parks, but you get the idea.

C is NOT one that will push himself too far.. if he feels the least bit funny he'll not do any more! We had it out w/ a coach for pushing him too far one year... needless to say that coach still does NOT speak to me and that is great by me!!!! The polka dot paper is supposed to be open in the middle so you can see the black Mickey head paper through it. But if everyone else in the group is okay with the solid piece, it is okay with me.
For the black Mickey head, I would add a few more of them in that area. The lined paper for the journaling spot is good. Other options are stamped or drawn lines, journal box rub-ons or stickers, journaling cards that your can buy and journaling paper.
I like the sparkle paper lots. The choices for paper are spot on. :thumbsup2

I was planning on adding anothe mickey punch or 2 (different styles) maybe. I'll definately spice up that corner. And I can totally cut out the inside of the polka dot rectangle-no problem. I just wanted to make sure I was on the right track ;)

I like both options for the embellishing. Which every way you go will look nice.
For the "open" rectangle, I think cutting a sheet of the Mickey head paper to layer on top of the polka dot will give it the same effect without all the special cutting techniques. [for those of us cutting challenged  ] Not sure why I didn't think of that sooner. If my ribbon idea doesn't work, I'm going to do that. :)

I'm glad y'all like it. I'm don't know how to get the multi-quote feature to work so here goes.
Morgansmom--I tried more Mickeys and didn't like them. I thought about balloons but don't know how to cut them. Then I realiized the DIT is making a Mickey page for that group so I tried a different direction :)
LOVEMY3KIDDOS--the white glitter with stars is part of a sticker border sheet made by Reminisce it coordinates with all their new Disney paper line. I found it at Archiver's (I know you really wanted to know) ;)
AWM--cutting another rectangle would be much easier!! I'll do that with the ones for the swap. I bought ribbon for that spot, but, I didn't like it against the red paper.

Disney colors with balloons for accents/main theme? As long as there are Disney colors, balloons sound fun.

Sorry if this has been asked, but by bumps, do you mean the long black "Scalloped" looking stuff, Like in Sketch 3 and 4, or do you mean the larger bumps like in 4? I guess I thought the scallops were a border, but now I am second guessing. Thanks!

The scallops are a border, but you can use any border there. You are not limited to the "shape" used on the border. The scallops or bumpy border can be turned into a torn, zig zag, waterfall or lacy border if you want.

I think I like this embellishment the best. With it being the same colors that are already found on the page, it actually stands out more.
Because it is just the one embellishment, giving the swappers a choice would be okay. If was a row or string of embellishments, that wouldn't be good. We don't want to do to much work the page to make it usable for the swapper.
Wishing I was in that group.

They do need to stay the size in the layout. Making them larger will take away the effect of the behind paper.

Sorry if this question is a repeat
For sketch 1: Can I use a patterned paper as the 12x12? the 5x12 strip will be patterned also and everything else solid colors. I haven't started yet and the 12x12 printed may not even look right. I just didn't want to travel down this path before I asked. If the 12x12 is not heavy enough, I will mount it on heavier cardstock.
I have my papers pulled for 2 groups and I am working on getting the other 2 groups pulled.

This is my first sketch swap and I want to make sure that I am on the right track. This is the 2 page layout for Princess - General.
A few things:
*Nothing is glued down, so it is all a bit crooked
*The background cardstock is not the actual one I will use (I know they don't match each other). All of the light pink papers will match. I just finished my niece's baby book and have pretty much exhausted my pink supply.
*The portraits will be 3 different princesses and the actual silhouettes will all be the same color. I couldn't decide which one I liked and didn't want to cut them all until I had.
*The white paper is the exact size the photos will be.
*My scrap desk is a mess. :sad2: Sorry.
http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae188/icesk8abc/IMG_4131-1.jpg
So...am I headed in the right direction? Which portrait colors do you like best - black, background paper color, bottom layer of the frame color, or some other color? What else do I need?

Thanks everyone. :goodvibes That was the silhouette I was leaning toward. Of course scraplifting is always allowed! Since this is a sketch swap, we are all scraplifting in a way. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I never thought of it that way, however, even looking at a sketch I have trouble choosing paper. :goodvibes

Lovely Icesk8abc!
I need some title help. I have Animal Kingdom for sketch B1. I measured it out and the title space is approximately 1.5 height by 2.75 width. I am not going to fit the words Animal Kingdom in that space unless I use a super tiny font size.
Any suggestions?
OT: I have measured out pages B1, A4, sketch 1 and sketch 4. Let me know if you need the measurements for any of these.

Does anyone in my group mind if I use Nahtazu for my AK title? It was the park's tag line when it first opened. I'll use "Wild!" if Nahtazu is too random.
AlexWyattMommy
07-13-2010, 04:20 PM
Does it have a meaning? Could you fit the meaning somewhere on the layout?
icesk8abc
07-13-2010, 04:23 PM
Nahtazu = Not a Zoo. Disney made the "word" up to describe the park. I'll keep thinking on it.

Thanks! I hadn't thought of it in forever until I was trying to explain Animal Kingdom to my niece and nephew who are going with us in October for their first trip. I thought that it would work for this since there are so many pictures and places in AK that prove it is "Nahtazu".

The punch is this one (http://www.eksuccess.com/products_detail.php?product_id=10843&sess_id=fe59d4c31753de51b26fc27fcf837812). I'm glad to finally use it :lmao:

Oh, my DH is so smart sometimes. He suggested making the little tag into a bag of pixie dust. Does anyone mind if I do that? I'll either make it look like a baggie and glitter it, or make a little organza bag and put some glitter in it.

Susan - Both those pages are great!
I love your DHS letters!
Here is my AK layout for group A
The title and Mickey aren't glued yet, so they are a bit crooked.
I used a shade of blue that I have a somehow have 21 pages of as the picture place holders, so I put down the pictures since the blue looks pretty weird with the rest of it.

I think you should probably draw the lines Susan. I don't think a stamp will work well on that texture.

::yes:: I realize it is a pain to draw or stamp or use prelined paper or shape, but we do need to have a journaling spot that is defined. The Mickey head is defined enough. It doesn't need lines. In the sketches where the journaling is indicated with just lines on one of the layers, you can add another layer of paper to be the journaling spot. If it is an extra layer on top of the sketch, that does not need to have lines drawn. Otherwise, drawing or stamping is the way to go.
Love the Nahtazau layout.

Those all look great...
I have papers pulled for one group.... (Disney General).. however, I need the punch Jennifer told us about..
I need to pull papers for Donald & Epcot today... I'm thinking silver/purple/black for Epcot.... I don't want to define by "country" colors...but I don't want to define in "futuristic" too much either... so I'm thinking the silver/purple/black will be best....
Donald... I just need to find the right papers..
Also, AWM, making one more clarification.. We can rotate the sketch... so in sketch 2 instead of being horizontal photos... I can make them vertical photos by flipping the whole sketch to where the title runs at the bottom of the pages or top thus leaving all other elements/measurements exactly as the original... depending which I like better... correct???
AlexWyattMommy
07-14-2010, 08:44 AM
::yes:: Rotating the sketch is encouraged if it will help you achieve your ideas. :thumbsup2

Ok, just making sure....
So IF I decided to avoid making lines and instead add another layer for the journaling spot or autograph that is okay???
I'm searching for blue and white polka dot paper (5) sheets if anyone find some.. preferrably a small polka dot but not too tiny... and not the mega dots... (blue of donald)... if anyone could help in this venture.. 5 stores and NADA here... although I did get a cuttlebug 50% off at J's... I did have to debate a bit but I won! :)
