Hey Goofs,
I had 67.2 miles for June, mostly running. I have been way too busy at work to make many of my lunchtime spin classes. I have also had a horrible cough the last week and a half that is making it hard to do much cardio except for light jogging or the elliptical with little resistance. I'm pretty frustrated with it and am ready to be done with it!
I am running a 10K this weekend. It's supposed to be pretty hot but it is starting early so hopefully it stays fairly cool until I finish.
I didn't have any races in June but have three in July as well as running an hour on the track for our Relay for Life event.
I hope everyone is healthy and happy and has a fun, safe July 4th weekend!

Hi Goofs...
214 miles for me in June. Had a few "motivationally challenged" days on the XT front that kept the miles down.
Angie Fantastic! All the races you do are great--the blisters are not. Keep trying new things to fix them, something is bound to work eventually. I get deep blisters on/under calluses on my big toes (yes, too much detail) that bother me on runs of 8+ or so; and I just bought some "toe caps"--silicone pieces that slip on over your big toes. When I opened the package, found that they were really think, so I figured, "here's a waste of $16!". Amazingly, I ran 12 miles on Sunday, and they seemed to work! No blisters, and no pain/tenderness.
Steve Get better soon. And good luck at your 10k.
Rich Glad to hear your legs are coming back ( so to speak)
Jeanette Congrats on your weight! And I hope your vegetarian conversion goes well. I'm not inclined to go full-on veggie, but I have decided totry and incorporate at least one bona fide veggie meal /week into our diet (pasta with olive oil and cheese--one of my lazy meals-- doesn't count!) Will be easier to do once DS leaves for school ;) deekaypee--on the Ohana team-- is a vegetarian. I bet she could give you some "dining at Disney" tips. Plus Allearsnet.com talks about vegetarian dining at the World.
Time to go run & yoga....

How is it already July? June went by incredibly fast!
65 miles running
61 miles walking
33 miles cross training
June total: 159 miles
A definite improvement over last month, so that's good. My half-marathon training is pretty much in full swing now, too; I'll be finishing up my 7th week on Saturday. Only 13 weeks to go!
The icing on the cake is that I managed to lose 8 pounds in June! If I can keep that up through July and August I'll be all set. With my weekly miles increasing, hopefully that will be enough to keep shedding the pounds. It has been a great motivator though: the more I run, the more I lose and the more weight I lose, the more I want to run!
Happy July everyone!

June miles - 100.29. (Told ya they were low. Maybe I should actually start tracking yardwork or something. . . )
Steve - good luck on the 10k!
Nicky - way to go with the weight loss! Glad to hear the training is going well.
Angie - 12 halfs? That's a pretty impressive accomplishment. Are you trying to do a half in every state?
Maura - way to go with those miles!

I am a walker - not a runner. I have never walked in any kind of race but I walk almost every day for exercise (approx. 5 mi. in 75 min.).
I am a Disney fan and would love to walk one of their marathons. Looking for support in this goal.
Thank you and happy 4th of July weekend.

Welcome to the Goofs! (This is coming from the newest member - I think).
I am new to running, really just started about 6 months ago, but I've turned the corner and looking forward to my runs versus thinking of them as work. I should clarify, I walk/run. I'm at 3 minutes run 2 minutes walk now, but started with 1 minute run 4 minutes walk. The Wine & Dine half relay will be my first Disney race and my longest to date.
I know there are plenty of others who walk Disney races. SamSam is one I know of.
Have you picked a race that will be your first? There may already be a race support thread going for it. It's fun to get to know others who will also be racing and get tips from the vets.
Feel free to come back with any questions - this is a great group!

My June miles were 46.28.
Got in about 12 miles this week, left knee just keeps nagging at me and I still feel sluggish. I hope this passes before the real miles kick in! :scared:
Running the Peachtree this Sunday with DH. It will be painful, but I will get it done. :thumbsup2
Maura, thanks for posting Saucony's response. What do you make of it?!? Are your toes still bothering you? :confused3

Howdy, there. I'm Todd. I'm kinda quiet round here because I don't have much to add, as I am still a novice at running. I enjoy getting out and moving. Lately its been hard for me to mke myself stop and get ready for work.
Just like Mrs. D, I am doing the Wine & Dine Half Marathon and am quite stoked. I went and cheered during marathon weekend 2010, and decided I had to be a part of it in 2011--just haven't decided what I'm doing quite yet.:donald::mickeyjum:goofy:

Happy July All!
Just back from 7 nights at WDW. Had great weather (HOT) and had a great time. Hopefully don't have to wait 4 more years before we get back there again.
I WANT TO GO BACKKKK!!! :sad1: Ok, I done with my whine now. Why is coming home from vacation so hard and even harder when you are coming home from WDW. I did actually get in three short runs while we were there. I really enjoyed my run from OKW to DTD via the nature path. That was nice running along the canal.
I was down on my June miles, life just was too busy, only logged in 92 miles.
Sounds like everyone is working really hard getting ready for races. I still haven't decided if I'm going to run a 1/2 or full this fall, guess I should get off my but and decide so I can really start training.
Have a Happy fourth of July!!! Happy Birthday America!

Happy 4th!
Kicked off the morning with a 5k and then a 10k to cool down.
Finally ran under 19 minutes for the 5k 18:47. The 10k was an hour later and completely miserable. I used it as a training/cool down run. Could definately feel the heat during the 10k though. Now I'll mow the grass and call it a day. Sometimes I question my decisions.

Nicky Congrats on the weight loss. Glad your training is going well
cotillard (I keep thinking of Marion Cotillard when I see your tag!) Welcome to the Goofs. Sounds like you a re a pretty strong walker. And the WISH boards have plenty of walkers who have done every Disney race imaginable.
Shan I understand Saucony's response--maybe next time I'll try the wide version. I discovered some silicone toe caps, and so far (2 long runs of 12 & 13 miles) they have worked well. Now though, I am developing blisters in new spots! (Not related to the toe caps). Hopefully moleskin will do the trick for those.
Jeanne Glad your WDW visit went well. And hope you can go back sooner than later.
Jason Congrats on your speedy 5k. And of course, EVERYONE, does 10k to cool down ;)
How am I going to get in my workouts when the World Cup AND Tour de France are on?......

Nicky - Good for you with the weight loss. I wish I had the motivation right now. I'm finally back on track with the exercise but it's the eating part that's getting me in trouble! Keep it up. You are doing fantastic. :worship:
Cotillard - Welcome to the Goofs! That's great that you get out there every day. I know you can meet that goal. Keep us posted on your progress.
Shan - Best of luck at Peachtree! I hope you are as pain-free as possible and have a lot of fun.
Jeanne - Welcome back. I hope you had a great time at WDW. I've heard that was a nice trail but my only stay at OKW was long before my running days! I'll have to check it out next time I'm there.
Jason - Great job on the back to back races. Awesome time on the 5K!
I hope everyone had a fun 4th!
AFM, my wife and I just ran the Run for Independence "10K" on Saturday with some friends. It was a small race we knew nothing about in Weaverville, CA. We were camping near there this weekend and wanted to do it. There was no information online other than a blurb in the local paper listing it among the festivities that day.
We met at the local high school and registered and put our donations in the jar as there was no fee for the race. Needless to say there were no timing chips, water stops or anything else! I turned on my Garmin to let it find us and got the dreaded Battery Low message. A few seconds later it died. Aaaaaaarrh! So much for keeping pace! :headache:
The person announcing gave course descriptions and saw I was pushing a jogger with DD4. He asked if I was doing the 5K. I told him I was doing the 10K. He asked if anyone was doing the 5K with a jogger because there was one point that was difficult to navigate. He said nothing about getting through the 10K with a jogger but I wish he had!
Our little race which I thought would be around town quickly left the pavement and after about half a mile, made a sharp right and up a hill into a tough trail run. Yes, a trail run. Through most of it, the trail was so narrow, both tires were on the dried grass on either side of the narrow trail. I couldn't have run this pushing the jogger if I had wanted to so I walked most of it. There were also three streams to cross and I had my daughter get out, helped her across, and then carried the jogger across. I couldn't believe what I had gotten myself into!
It was mostly an out and back with a few big loops. Because of all the walking, we knew we were last. And because of the loops, we went well over an hour without seeing anyone else. Right around this time I noticed a tick on my shoulder. I thought it was just a bug but it wouldn't come off by swatting at it. Fortunately I got it off pretty easily before he broke the skin as he must have been trying to eat through the gobs of sunblock I had on. Scary stuff! :scared1:
We finally saw one of our friends walking back toward us. She said she had had enough and was heading back. My wife wanted to go with her and offered to push the jogger if I wanted to keep going. I did and finally got a good run in. About half a mile later, I saw people returning. I asked how much further to the turnaround and they said it was still at least a mile and a half. I ran through it and had fun. I did twist my ankle at one point which was pretty painful but I was fortunately able to walk it off. I slowed my pace and eventually caught up with my wife and friend who had just crossed the stream back (how is that for timing!) :rolleyes1
We walked the rest of the trail until we got back to the road and then ran back to the school. Yes, we were the last people there but at least the folks holding it were waiting for us. They said someone (I assume with a Garmin) told them the course was actually 7.5 miles, which is some 10K!

Good evening Goofs! Hope everyone had a great 4th of July and is staying cool, I've heard about the record breaking heat in the NE. We've had almost non stop rain for the last 3 or 4 days. While my front yard looks great, it really needs to be mowed! Of course we'll take all of the rain as long as there are no hurricanes this summer as being predicted.
cotillard-again, welcome! What is your first name so I can add it to the list?
Congrats to everyone who ran this past week. And Jason, a 10K as a cool down?!!
The Princess 1/2 registration opened today and Disney has finally gotten smart by offering a lower price if you register early. I hope they have learned their lesson with the Wine and Dine and marathon weekend not selling quickly like they thought it would. I plan on signing up before the first price increase on August 8th. Anyone else planning on the Princess 1/2?

Cotillard - Welcome! I am one of the newer Goofs as well! I am currently training for my first race - the Wine & Dine Half Marathon.
Steve - Wow! That 10k (and some extra) sounds crazy!
Jason - Congrats on the 5k time! I highly doubt I could ever get anywhere near that time...let alone follow it up with a 10k to cool down! I had to laugh about mowing the lawn afterward as I have had several experiences in that department as well! My main focus lately has been making sure I keep my momentum, so I try to make sure my runs/workouts come first, but boy do I sometimes regret that later when it comes time to mow!
Todd and Mrs D - I will also be doing the Wine & Dine Half Marathon!
Maura - Lol! It really has been difficult to schedule workouts with all of these major sporting events taking place lately!
AFM, Is it wrong that I am contemplating signing up for a second half marathon before I have even done the first one? I got an email today saying that registration for the Princess half is open. We were already talking about going to WDW next February, so if we go at the end of the month, I can do that run, too. I have already been a little nervous about what will happen after the wine & dine when I don't have anything lined up to train for. I adhere to a work out schedule much better if I have a solid goal to strive for, and the princess half would give me that goal. Hmmm, still mulling it over.
Does anyone have any advice about negative splits? Is it just a matter of disciplining myself? I tried to start slower and finish stronger today, and while I did have a better time on the back half of my run, I was also much slower overall. The 90 degree weather (and humidity) might have contributed to that. Or it could have also been that the holiday weekend was rough, what with the gluttony and slacking off and all (I really have no desire to look at potato salad for the next decade!). It just seems like if I pace myself slower in the beginning I am never able to recover that speed later on. :confused3
In the meantime, I'll just keep plodding along!

Actually, the "early entry" price is what they charged for 2010. So in reality, they are raising the price by as much as $20 for those who wait.
Nicky Two years ago, as a running newbie, I signed up to run the 2009 WDW half before I had completed the Minnie 15k--which was my very first race. So no, I don't think it's wrong--scary, maybe, but not wrong! As for negative splits, I have no good advice (pace-challenged) and the only advice (and it may be no good!) is not to worry about that now. I would try to run even-paced instead. That is what I am doing with my current training plan (it's what they recommend)
Steve Wow...what a race experience! Glad you made it through. Especially hope you brushed off the tick with no issues. My BIL has a suspected case of Lyme's disease--it takes two weeks to get the tests back to condirm for sure. But in the meantime, it's not a fun thng to deal with.
Time to go....

Hey Maura,
I was planning on an increase for the Princess so to me, its almost like a discount if I register early. They could have just opened registration at $140 and waited till January for everyone to sign up.

Steve, sorry about the tick! I can't stand those things! I had a cousin get really, really ill from one so I'm glad you spotted it!
Sooo, Peachtree was fun. We were a tad late leaving for the Marta train. :rolleyes1 Once we got to the station the train was full, so we had to squeeze in by the door. I looked around and noticed everyone's bibs were a much later corral than mine. :lmao: Once we got off it was a crawl to the start. I had to stop for the potty and that was when they started singing the National Anthem and had the fly over. We literally walked right into my corral as it was moved up to the start and began running. (DH's corral was long gone!) We never once stopped moving! So, I guess you could say we timed it to the second?!? :confused3
DH scored a couple T-shirts along the course, I got blessed by the priest that throws out holy water on the sidewalk by his church each year. I missed him last year, so I made a point to run over on that side this year. I can use all the blessings I can get! I came in at 1:10:36, 37 seconds slower than last year and nowhere near my 10K PR, but it was fun. I guess if I hadn't walked thru one of the water stops I could have at least matched last year's time, though. Oh, well. Hung out in the park at the finish with some of DH's running buddies and then came home and took a nap. :hippie:

Shan, great job with Peachtree and thanks for sharing your report. It sounded fun!
Today is day 1 of our local Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. My wife and I each ran our hour today. Since it's the local running club, they want to see if they can get our team to run the entire 24 hours. You would think this would give us the most miles but the local running store team always beats us. This year they don't have a team so maybe we have a shot. I don't know though, I was getting lapped quite a bit by the firefighter team.
My run started at 4pm and it was pretty warm and muggy out there. I didn't want to push myself too hard as I'm starting to taper for a half marathon next weekend. I ended up running exactly 6.21 miles according to my Garmin. The highlight for me was having my 4yo DD run two laps with me. She got a lot of smiles from onlookers in her little pink moisture-wicking outfit. She's sleeping good now. Let's hope she lets us sleep in tomorrow! ;)
I am a little bummed about my race next weekend. I'm doing the Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon. I signed up a long time ago and my sister got inspired and said she wanted to run it with me and registered right away. She has been calling me a lot since then asking for advice since she was new to running. I went on two training runs with her when I visited and was really proud of her progress.
Well, she called me last weekend and confessed she hasn't run in two months and the longest she has run to date was only 5 miles and with that run, she got dehydrated to the point of having to go to emergency.
She said she is backing out because she doesn't want to humiliate herself out there. There is a 15:00 required pace she doesn't think she will be able to meet.
I feel bad for her because I know she is beating herself up over it. I'm trying to be as comforting and supportive as possible. I'm also upset with myself because I haven't been training as hard as I would had I been planning to run it by myself. She is about 4:00/mile slower than I am and I really didn't need to push myself that hard during our training runs together. Now that I'm running it solo, I want to go out there and try for a good time but I'm nowhere close to being able to PR. I think I will just do as well as I can and focus on enjoying the experience. I'm not sure how appealing wine tasting will sound at the finish line at 9am but it's part of the experience I'll have to take in! :rolleyes1

We do have a lot of great running opportunities in northern California. I just need the constant motivation of an upcoming race to keep me in the gym and out of the Ben & Jerry's! ;)

I've only got two races on my calendar right now. :lmao:
Had to do my LR a little early this week since we have plans this weekend. Ran 6.20 miles this morning around the neighborhood before DH and the girls woke up. It was still hot, though! This was my first time switching back to a R/W in awhile. Now I'm officially doing Galloway for my LRs and running the shorter runs during the week. I was happy to see my pace was roughly the same as when I just straight out run!
Have a great weekend Goofs! :grouphug:

Guess I haven't posted in a while!
Shan Glad Peachtree was fun. BTW, you should check out runningwarehouse.com--they now have this shoe finder feature where they supposedly have 3D info on shoes so you can compare your current show to one you might be choosing. According to them, the Ride3 is definitely smaller than Ride2. So I decided--after more blisters--to buy a different shoe. I picked up some Nike Vomero 5 (on sale at Nordstrom!) and am about to christen them this morning.
Angie & Steve Great list of races! Comgrats for committing to so many. Unlike me, who always waits til the last minute. Hope your races this weekend went well.
Suzanne :wave2:
Same old, same old at this end. Friday, I went out for my first solo bike ride. Yeah, seems weird--I've had my road bike 3 years, and I don't ride that frequently, and ususally with DH or friends. So I did 19 miles, and no flats.
Yesterday, instead of my 17 mile LR, I went with friends to a local state park (where they hold a series of tris). We rode 21 miles and then went for a swim. I can't swim in a straight line to save my life!
Anyway, LR awaits ....now. Better get going.

Did 12 miles on Saturday and it was miserably hot and humid. I didn't get out of the house until 9:20 am so the heat was already climbing. At least I did the run. I'm going to have to start bringing water with me on my longer runs now. Not excited about carrying fluids.

Maura - Great job with the mileage. You are inspiring.
Dawn - Congratulations and an awesome job! Way to go. :worship:
Genny - Congrats on doing your first race. It's not easy doing any kind of exercise on the beach. Best of luck with C25K. I keep reminding myself of "better late than never" as I got off to a late start too. You are doing great. Keep it up! :thumbsup2
Jason - Great job to you too as I have a hard time functioning out there once it hits 60. I couldn't imagine 12 miles in that heat and humidity.
AFM, I'm in Austin, TX right now visiting some good friends on the way to visit my FIL for the rest of the week. I brought my running gear but I don't see any way I can exercise in this heat outside of the hotel gym!
I just ran the Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon yesterday. It was a fun day. The course had a lot of rolling hills and the first several miles had me surrounded by vineyards. It was beautiful but I had to keep reminding myself to look around and not stare at the ground or straight ahead of me like I'm in the habit of doing. I was worried about the heat as it had been in the 90's there. I was fortunate to start at 7am and it was still overcast until mile 9 so I got pretty lucky. It didn't start heating up until just about the time I finished. I wasn't very well prepared for it so I'm still pretty happy I did as well as I did.
At the finish line, they gave out wine glasses and they had a lot of wine tasting stations. As badly as I wanted to stay a while and sample, I don't think my stomach can handle alchohol after a long race!

Hope everyone is doing great!
I am waiting for my doctors approval to sign up for a 15K at the end of September, I plan on walking most of it, just a little jogging here and there to stay ahead of the 15 min/mile pace. I am already signed up for weekend after that for the Wine and Dine 1/2 so I can count this as a long training run!! Not much else on my list for the fall, waiting to see what else comes up!

Steve - I have visited Napa once for a wedding and fell in love with the area :lovestruc Have not been to Sonoma but want to. I cannot imagine how amazing that course must've been :lovestruc Beautiful country. Congratulations.
Suzanne - good luck with your 15K. Are you running the Wine & Dine or walking it? I would LOVE to walk it but I can't be there on that date :sad2: Maybe next year.
I'm going to walk two local 5Ks in September and then walk a half marathon in late October. Depending on how those go (and my C25K training) I am either going to run the Family Fun 5K or walk the Princess half in February :woohoo: but one way or another I will be there :yay:

Maura - Way to go on the solo bike ride. I have been thinking more and more about pulling mine out as well.
Genny - Congrats on your first race! It seems like you've caught the bug! I think you'll enjoy the C25K program. Keep up the good work.
Jason - way to go on the 12 miles. If I were doing that distance I'd either need to plant water on the route or wear a fuel belt.
Steve - That Napa>Sonoma run sounds lovely, although the hills would have done me in. Good for you!
Suzanne a 15K before a Half does sound like a good training run! :rotfl2: Are you able to make the Boma meet on Friday night? Anyone else running Wine & Dine able to join us? The link is in my siggy.
Thanks all for the kind words and encouragement on the weight loss! I was able to drop the first 10 just by beginning my training for the W&D half relay but finally broke down and joined weight watchers last month and have dropped the other 10 with incorporating that.
I'd had a tough 2 weeks with my runs. I think this being my first summer of training I'm not used to the heat/humidity/sun blasting down. I find myself barely chugging along and feel like I'm backsliding in my time and mileage. I did finally have a great run Tuesday night - I think I did 4 miles (I lost track of my laps) which is currently my long run distance. I want to be comfortable with 5 miles before the W&D race.
Last, I feel like I've been MIA from the DIS, and it's because I'm on the committee for my church's annual 5K. This year we have a completely brand new committee (new to putting on a race, but many seasoned runners) and are getting a VERY late start in planning & securing sponsors; we are 9 weeks away from the event and really just now getting the ball rolling. So as you might guess we are pulling our hair out trying to play catch up and actually make this happen. If anyone has advise or knows a company that would be a great sponsor - all suggestions are welcome!
Thanks for listening (reading) and being such a great supportive group!

Good luck with all of your races. Is the Wine & Dine for runners only? Just wondering.

Dawn Add my congrats to your wonderful weight loss. And hope the race you are organizing comes together. I have no sdvice, although there are 1 or 2 race organizers on the WISH board--you may be able to get some advice.
cotillard I imagine a beach walk could be quite challenging depending on what part of the beach you walk on. Good luck on continuing with C25K. And don't worry about the past. I didn't start any of this til nearly 50, and I don't have real regrets because I know that only now do I have the interest and commitment to make it worthwhile.
Jason I hope you find a way that works for you to bring water. I run with a 2 bottle Nathan pack, which doesn't bother me, but I know that a lot of people aren't fond of packs. 2 bottles is really not enough in this weather, though. so I am going to have to make anadjustment (I don't drink nearly enough as I should)
Steve Sounds like a good race. I hear you about looking around--I never do. I always stare at the ground. And just once I am going to do a race that has wine or beer at the end! I would stick around until I could drink it.
Suzanne I have a lousy memory...I hope whatever you were at the doctor for has healed. Any plan I had to do W&D is gone, since DS has Parent Weekend at school that we are thinking of maybe going to. So I changed the Bounceback reservation that I had to December--looks like DD and I may go down to WDW the week before Christmas.
2 exciting stages of the Tour de France "kept me" from heading to the gym this week--I really have just blown off the XT. I'll be glad when it's over and I can adhere to my usual routine. I just can't get motivated to head to the gym in the PM.
Off to run now though (it's a flat stage--sprinter will win and I can catch the highlights later!)

Just popping in after my 20 mile LR--which actually turned out to be 20.35 according to Garmin. I noticed at a few spots on my route that the AutoPause feature kicked in while I was still running. Two-fold bummer! 'Cause first--I wasn't running THAT slowly! and second--that distance wasn't showing on my display.
Anyway, it's done (last 5 miles were tough and slow) and I am drinking my chocolate milk in a very Homer-like fashion (mmmmm, chocolate milk....drool)
How I am ever going to pick up the pace for the future LR is beyond me!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend all!

Hi all,
I've been lurking but not posting lately. Life is just so busy sometimes. I think I need a vacation from Summer.:rotfl: Did another 15.5 mile training run yesterday, it was a tough one.
Anyways, I just signed up for my first marathon. :scared1: I'm going to run (or kind of) the Wineglass Marathon in Corning,NY on October 3rd. My sis and her hubby are running also. They are experienced Marathoners, not a marathon virgin like me. Honestly I am so scared/nervous about it. I'm just not sure if I can do it and I'm going to feel like a complete failure if I can't.
Ran a 5K last weekend, it was so HOT and humid, my time was terrible. It shouldn't matter but I've been training so much more this year, I would have thought it would have gotten better. I also have a Half planned for August 22nd. The Half was going to be my 'we''ll see how it goes" then sign up for the Wineglass race, but the Wineglass Marathon was in Runner's World last year as one of the "Best marathons to run for Boston Qualifier", so this year the registration is over 75% full already and if I had waited much longer to sign up I might have not made it in. Oh dear what have I done.....:sad2:

Hey Goofs,
Still running, just struggling a lot with my motivation. I have no fall races planned at the moment (not really wanting to do the long runs for a marathon in the summer heat), so I am doing pretty low mileage for the week. Streak continues, and I did four days of barefoot running last week, and have had a couple very nice tempo runs, but I just can't shake the feeling that I have been slacking instead of actually training.
Good to hear that other people are taking up the slack! Keep those feet moving, and keep on running!

Long run of 7.5 miles on tap later this week, had some minor surgery done under local on Friday, so I'm a little hesitant. Nothing major, just stuff I'm still dealing with from my surgery a couple years ago. Still have one more surgery under local to go and then I'll finally be done with it! Anyway, wish me luck on the 7.5 miler! :rotfl:

Hey there Goofs!
Just checking in. I'm officially over halfway done with my training plan! Of course, I'm now a couple of days behind because I came down with a head cold. I'm planning on going out today for my first run since Friday, assuming I can breathe well enough. Last week/this week I am doing 19 miles total, with my long run being 7 miles. I'm starting to think that 13.1 miles is a long way to run! I really can't wait until the heat and humidity goes down a little, but I am hopeful that it is helping me prepare for Florida in October.
I am really starting to get excited/nervous about my first 1/2 marathon - so much so that I am starting to have nightmares about it! It would be nice if I could shut my brain off when I sleep. In my dream the other night, I ended up running in jeans and dress shoes and the shoes were giving me blisters. We had to wade through water at one point, too. Although I will say that while I was "running", I never felt winded or tired, so that was good! :rotfl:
Hope everyone's summer is going well!

Hey Goofs,
Still running, just struggling a lot with my motivation.
Same boat here. I really don't want to do my long runs and it is pulling teeth for me to get any quality runs in right now. I'm still targeting an Oct marathon, but if I don't get in gear, I won't be ready. All the relatives visiting and getting sick hasn't really helped either. All I want to do is curl up and sleep.

Rich and Jason Line up and I'll kick your backside! ;) I understand the motivation thing. I've lost all motivation for following a tri training plan. But I've decided not to beat myself up. Hope you guys find the spark soon.
Shan I like the Nike Vomero. They have lots of room in the toe box and I have had no problems with the heel sipping--even though I bought a 9 instead of 8-1/2. Of course, I am still getting blisters! But I taped my feet this past weekend and it seemed to help on one side. Will have to tape both the same way this weekend and see what happens. It's taking me longer and longer to get ready to run!
Nicky Ah yes, the dreams. They can be pretty funny or scary, depending on what happens. I know I've had my fair share--although fortunately have forgotten the details. Congrats on your training. Sounds like it's going well. and I bet you'll be ready in October. I ALWAYS question my ability to run a specific race distance--even if I've done it before! But don't worry-you'll get there.
Todd Have fun at Muddy Buddy. I sorta missed doing it at Stony Creek this year, but my partner decided to do it with her mom (my friend) instead. Too bad they didn't have the Muddy Run--or whatever they call it. At some of the locations, you can enter by yourself and just run the whole thing.
Running, yoga, spackling. Yup, that was my day. Plus buying a SIM card for my DD before she goes to Germany and Italy. Some people have all the fun!

Update - the spark still isn't there. I had a great tempo run on Monday (4 miles in just over 26 minutes, and while it was hard, it was only pushing 8 on the 1-10 scale, so I should be able to break 26 fairly easily, and even breaking 25 might be in reach), and then a couple medium/hard "recovery" runs the last couple days. Hard running is going to be out of the question for a few days - this morning, we got a delivery of 10 cubic yards of river rock, and moving that is going to leave me too sore for any quality runs for a while.
