View Full Version : Garmin 405 - Replacement fabric band?

So I guess I yanked at my Garmin band a little too hard this morning and I broke it  It snapped right at the point where I would have fastened it to my wrist so it's not fixable.

It looks like Garmin sells replacement plastic straps but they also sell a fabric strap as well. Just wondering if anyone has the fabric strap and what they thought of it. Any better than the plastic band? From the reviews, it seems the fabric bands seem like they're better suited for smaller wrists so that's what I'm leaning towards.

TIA :goodvibes

DH has the fabric band. He loves it. It does work better for smaller wrists, and it's a lot more adjustable. One drawback is that if you sweat a lot, it gets really wet and holds the moisture. (Of course, the plastic band traps the moisture underneath, which is just as gross!)

A couple of my friends switched to the fabric band for their 305's recently too.

Thanks Jackie! I just ordered the kit so hopefully it will be here sometime next week. Figures the strap would break right before the holiday weekend :) I'll let you know how I like it.

I replaced my band with the Velcro strap. It is the system that I can snap the computer out of the wrist band and attach it to a mounting system on my bike.

The velcro band fits snug to my tiny wrist so it's not moving as much when I run. I like it much better!

Well I ordered the band and got a complimentary upgrade in shipping to two business days. The packaged arrived yesterday at the FedEx depot near my house so I figure I'll go and pick it up today because I'd rather wear the watch than hold onto it during my run. :rotfl: I call FedEx and they say they can't release the package because the shipper paid for two business day delivery. :headache: I get that they won't deliver it but why can't I go and pick it up :confused3 I guess they're really strict about it so I won't be able to try out the new band until I go running on Wednesday (Tuesday's my rest day and it won't arrive before I go running on Monday morning).

That's the point where I would have tried the old "I've always been a happy FedEx customer, but if this is the way I get treated then I'll be happy to switch to UPS" trick. It doesn't always work to bring up the competition, but at least I always feel a bit better getting out some frustration. Good luck with the new band!

Richard - I sent them an email and asked why I couldn't pick it up. FedEx's reply was that anything sent by 2Day service was kept locked in a container until the morning it was scheduled to be delivered. That's why the employees couldn't get to it. I guess it makes sense but it reminds me how much Disney sometimes bends over to make their customers happy. I guess I'm a little spoiled by that :upsidedow

Vicky - I agree with you about Disney, but I think it is still poor customer service on FedEx's part to not release it when they could to the proper party. It would be like the pizza deleivery guy sitting in his car for an extra 10 minutes before coming to my door and saying, "We said it would be 30 minutes for delivery, and even though I got here early I couldn't give you the pizza until 30 minutes went by.

I'm also thinking about getting the fabric band, so I'll be waiting to hear how it works out for you.
