Hi everyone-
I'm looking for some help in choosing a tripod. I'd like to keep the price under $200, and closer to $150 if at all possible

I was looking at this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Rocketfish%26%23153%3B+-+65%22+Carbon+Fiber+Tripod/9363119.p?id=1218093003220&skuId=9363119&st=tripod&cp=1&lp=5

Or I am open to other suggestions within my price range

Thanks!

For the price I doubt you can beat it.

I own this one and it comes with a better ballhead:

Yes, you can get a monfrotto or similar but you'll pay more and honestly...these haven't stopped me from getting any of the shots I've wanted.

Are you looking for an everyday or travel tripod?

I assume its probably too much to ask to say both in one?

I guess travel, I currently have trips to Italy, disney and the california coast planned for within the next year.

There have been whole threads devoted to the pros and cons of all the different tripods. I have three, one for everyday, one for travel, and the Joby SLRZoom flexible tripod. For travel, I use the Cullmann Magic 2. It folds flat and weighs 2 1/2 lbs. Its great for air travel because it easily fits in my suitcase. Its not an everyday tripod, but for travel and as a second tripod for an off camera flash, it works great.

If you are planning to use it for travel, do pay attention to the dimensions and weight of what you are considering.

I wanted one that was a little taller than most (to get over heads in the of fireworks at Disney). I also wanted something as lightweight and small as possible when folded up.

I ended up with the luxi l:

It fit the bill on all counts and was light to carry around on vacation. I'm not as fond of the twist lock legs as I would have been with flip lock legs, but it's generally hard to find everything you want in one tripod. You usually have to cave on at least one feature.

I have been pretty happy with my Slik Sprint Pro EZ as an all purpose pod. It isn't perfect for anything and everything - as mentioned above, you have to compromise somewhere as you're not going to get super strong, super tall, super compact, super cheap, etc all in one!

For me, the sell on the Sprint was that it was light, compacts small enough to get into carryon luggage, has flip lock legs, extends up to a healthy 6-feet, and yet is strong enough to handle my big wildlife lenses and get daily use while birding and doing night shots. It's about $100.

I recently purchased a Benro Travel Angel TRAB069 from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0027VSQ24). Right now there are a few on amazon for $213, but I picked it up used in the original box for $175. If you have some time more deals might pop up. It folds to ~13inches and weights under 3 pounds. It is more than you wanted to spend, but in terms of traveling it will fit in any of your luggage. It comes with a decent ballhead (better than I expected for the price).

I was looking for a travel/Disney tripod and my main criteria was folded length. While I've yet take it out of the house I am plesently suprised by its stability.
