Second Disney cruise but no beach towel. I thought I read on the board that Castaway members received a beach towel.

Was there something else in your stateroom? On our second cruise there was a beach bag along with the invitation to the Capt's party for Castaway Club members.

BTW - did you give DCL or your TA your castaway club # when you booked?

Have you been on the second cruise yet? They leave the returning cruisers' gifts in your stateroom, so that they're there when you arrive. That's how it's always worked for us.

When I made the reservation, I gave them our Castaway Club #. But when we checked in, they did not have the number or have us as returning guests. I gave them the info at check-in. We called Guest Services and they said they knew nothing about a beach towel just the $25 on board credit. No we did not get anything else.

I, too, would contact Disney about this!
I think we were one of the first returning cruisers on DCL...sailed in Sept. 1998 and then in Jan. 1999. There was no gift in our stateroom and nobody on board knew anything about it. I don't even think they had the program set up yet, even tho' they were advertising it. Eventually, after pursuing the matter, we got a nice picture in the mail that now hangs proudly in our hall. After that, they were very good about the gifts, although we've had trouble with the onboard credit at times. I always make sure to bring my Castaway Club card (which can be confusing, since I somehow ended up with two different numbers...maybe one day they'll leave two gifts!).

I would think as many times as you've been back that DCL would just give you a key and permanent assignment to one of the Cat 1 suites!;)

We just booked our 2nd cruise, this time on points. I explained that it was our second cruise and I think we are now members of the Castaway Club. The rep said that she just entered it in the computer. Should I call DCL and get a Castaway Club number and find out if they received the info from our new reservation, or should I give them some time? Is there a separate department that handles Castaway Club members? Should I e-mail them instead?

I just booked the 2nd cruise this week. How long should I give it before I receive something in the mail?

When we went on our second cruise there was a picture frame that said DISNEY MAGIC in raised letters on the lower right corner. We put a picture of CHIP with us at the Character Breakfast in it and it is hanging in the breakfastroom.

BARB: What is with the onboard credit?? We never heard of that before.

I just called DCL castaway club and explained that I told the rep when I booked our second cruise that we had sailed before. This rep said that the castaway club # is actually the client ID# from the second cruise. She said we would not receive the plastic Castaway Club card until we returned home from our 2nd cruise. I asked about the beach towel and she said it would be in our stateroom on the second cruise.

Does something sound funny here or does this sound correct?

The number thing sounds kind of funny...if that were true, why do I have two numbers? And hubby's number is one digit higher than my first number.

Something tells me that I had better call back on Mon. and speak to another rep. I'll ask about the reception, too.

I'll keep you posted.

is not until September 2003, and our first cruise was June 2002. I have already received my Castaway Club membership card in the mail. I would DEFINITELY call, because not receiving you card until after the second cruise does not seem correct, if I have already received my membership card more than a year before my second cruise. It arrived about six weeks after my first cruise.

after our first Disney Magic cruise in 1/01. I thought we would get something in the mail a few weeks after returning home from our cruise, but we never received anything. I booked our second Magic cruise several months ago, through Dreams Unlimited, and I think Cathy said she contacted DCL and got our number, but I have no idea what the number is. :( I hope we receive the beach towel, as others are receiving, but I'm not going to hold my breath about it I guess. Would definitely miss not being able to go to the Castaway Cay club party on the ship though!!

My first DCL cruise was January. A month later when I booked my second for May, I first called to get issued a Castaway Club number. In my stateroom on that cruise I received the sports bag, pin, and invitation to the CC reception. About six weeks after that second cruise, I received a big postcard with my CC number on it. I have #3 and #4 booked for Oct. and Nov. this year, and #5 booked for next year. I have still not received any plastic card.

The usual process is that sometime soon after your first cruise, you should get the plastic membership card and some membership info, like glossy brochures, etc.

They have had problems in the past with getting the cards and info out in a timely manner, and it was 'being resolved'.

It is doubtful that you will receive the Castaway Club onboard benefits unless you mention your ID number to DCL and or your TA. We didn't mention it for our second cruise and we didn't get the 'return cruiser gift' and we didn't get the reception invitation either. We did receive a second membership card and info a few weeks later. I called the Castway Club phone number and explained it to them and they added the info from the second cruise to the membership number from the first cruise so I just have one number now.

On all subsequent cruise reservations, I always mention the Castaway Club ID number and we have always received the 'gift' and the invitation to the reception.

The onboard credit offer for return cruisers has been discontinued, unless you book a future cruise while onboard a current cruise.

I would expect the card to arrive within a few weeks of the first cruise and not after the second cruise was completed. In reality though, the plastic card isn't that important, it's the ID number that is important. I have never been asked to show the card to anyone for any reason, just to produce the id number itself.

hope that helps

In reference to "sometime after your first cruise": The word I got from a CM at DCL when I booked my second cruise was that guests are not considered Castaway Club members now until they are actually "repeat cruisers." So it was when booking my second cruise that they issued me a CC number, which was noted on my reservation so I would receive the benefits. When I checked in and asked about a membership card, I was advised "4 to 6 weeks after your second cruise" I would receive something. That something was just the big postcard with the number. Maybe they are doing some cost cutting. But it does make sense for the CC to be for actual repeat cruisers and not just everyone who has ever sailed with DCL once.

I rceived a plastic card & letter & pins & cute little magnet about 4 weeks after we sailed without any new cruise booked. I guess it's not too consistent.

dylan'smom - Was your cruise this year? I got the impression from the CM that the changes were new.

As for consistency - It is SO TRUE that you can get a different answer from almost every CM you speak with sometimes! At least I sure do!

Since we were very early first time cruisers (Aug '98) we received our card, pins, etc. right after we returned home from our first cruise. I've booked our subsequent cruises using the 800 number on the Castaway Club materials. You don't even get into that system without having your number!

My experience has been that those computer records are VERY complete. Not only could the CM comment on our entire past cruising history such as dates, categories, etc. but she also was able to track special events celebrated. Example: On our 1998 cruise we were celebrating our 15th anniversary and she asked if we'd be celebrating our 20th on the 2003 cruise I was booking, and if so which night would we like to celebrate it in the diningroom!:p

Our first cruise was last year in June, taswira.

Of course it turned out to be sort of odd anyway because we received 2 separate cards, 2 pins, 2 magnets....

Thanks for the info, dylan'smom. I thought it might have been prior to this year, because I got the impression from the CM that this was a new policy - to only consider guests as CC members if they really are returning cruisers.

DH FINALLY received his CC card in the mail a couple of months ago - we sailed in September 1998!! I still have not received mine. When I called and asked about mine they said it was coming and my number is one digit different than his. We are taking out second Disney cruise in November so hopefully we will have our stuff in our stateroom waiting for us. Our TA has called DCL about hour CC membership!

I would call them about this - persistence pays off!!

We sailed the 7/6 Western and booked the Wonder for next July. I called today to get our Castaway Club # because we haven't received our cards and the rep last week said we won't until after our second cruise. Anyway, they gave me my # right away. I was about to call DCL to give it to them for my Wonder ressies when the Castaway Club rep said that my # was already linked to my ressies and DCL knew I was a Castaway Club member. Can't believe I forgot to ask again about when the cards are mailed, but I felt better that my # and ressies are connected.

After reading this thread, I too called the Castaway Club number and they gave me my number (they won't mail anything outside the US - we cruised Oct 2000 and never received anything). They also said "so I see you're cruising again this Oct 19" so they did have us down as repeat cruisers and I was assured we'd have something in both our cabins (not my parents' since they are first time cruisers).

When we sailed on our 2nd cruise 7/00, our TA did not have us down as repeat cruisers (even though I had repeatly told her). About day 3 in the 4 day cruise it hit me that we did not receive our gift or an inivation for the party. I went to Guest Services, and they told me that I was not down as a repeat and that I had already missed the party and I didn't push the gift thing. It wasn't worth getting myself worked up, so I forgot about it and enjoyed the rest of my cruise. Well, three months later, I received a picture frame in the mail from Disney's Castaway Club. I was really impressed with the follow up.

On our 3rd cruise 6/02, we received our beach towel, but not an invite to the party. I inquired about it at Guest Services, evidentally they had us in one part of the computer as return cruisers, but not in another part, so that we did not receive our party invite. They took care of that their and got to go to the party.

DH and I have been on two cruises - Feb 2000 and Oct 2001 - and still have not received any info from the CC. We did call about it before our second cruise. We were told it would be 4-6 weeks before we got anything in the mail, but they did note that we were return cruisers on our records so we got the gift and invite to the onboard reception.

Well, we're about to book the DVS special cruise on Saturday and realized we still haven't gotten anything and don't know our number. So I just called the CC - entered "0" when it asked for club # - to get our number. The person I talked with had all the info from our previous cruises and said he'd send out our info pack right away. And now I finally have our number to use when booking future cruises.

My suggestion is to be persistent. You'll eventually get what you want. :)

I went on my first cruise for the Pin trading cruise in May. My mother got her card less then three weeks after we returned.

Included was a survey and 4 post cards for new cruisers to get a video and credit.:)

As i was the one paying for the second cruise, I called and was given a new number for myself.

That was in early July, I have not recieved a card but that is ok, i Have 17 months before I cruise!:p

Well, what all these posts prove is:

1. There is NO consistency in DCL's Castaway Club or benefits.

2. We are each liable to get a different explanation, promise, or timeframe, depending on which CM we are speaking with.

3. Results may vary . . drastically!

I know it is the Castaway Club policy to send out only one plastic card per family. The numbers issued to each family member that have been on the cruises are one digit apart, each.

I have been trying for over a year and a half to have them issue me a card in my name. The card I now have is in my late husband's name. No luck yet, however. :(
